This is a review for two cakes I've had from this bakery. I've had the lemon mousse (?) and the death by chocolate cake with raspberry mousse filing at two work functions. The white cake with lemon mousse filling is not overly sweet and has a nice cool, light texture. The chocolate cake...omg. The raspberry mousse makes it THAT much better. The owner did a beautiful job completing the cake for my 1 year old son. I ordered a 2 tier cake with lemon cake on the bottom with whip cream, strawberry, and banana filling, and a chocolate cake with chocolate mousse and ganache filling for the top tier. They made a perfect smash cake for my son which he devoured. I really liked that I was able to bounce ideas with her and use her expertise and suggestions. This place made a 3 dimensional fire engine cake for my son's birthday and it turned out amazing! Not only was a it beautiful, but the cake itself was incredibly delicious. Even the fondant was way better than any I have ever had. The cake only cost $100 and I easily could have expected for it to cost more given the attention to detail. I placed my order rather late too and she had no problem making it work. I would recommend this bakery to everyone I know. read more

Best. Swedish. Princess. Cake. Ever. I've been ordering these for my daughter's birthday for about 12 years now and for my own for about five and these are probably the best tasting cakes I have had. Through the years, I have gotten my cakes from the now-defunct Swedish bakery in Tiburon as well as fine bakeries in Alameda and Berkeley and this one is the best, by a long shot. The decorating is also so beautiful. The cake decorator's script is absolutely gorgeous. Oh, and the eclairs? Perfection.Coffee is great, too. This is an old fashioned coffee shop with exceptional baked goods. I love that the long-time locals just hang out here and people watch, it cracks me up. read more

Even though somewhat styled with outdated decor and pastries, there is a great blend of the young and old, both in sweets and customers. If you are in Sonoma, this is the place to go for well priced coffee and baked goods. The owner is the sweetest person you will ever meet. The staff is friendly and warm. The pastries are fantastic, and the coffee is great, not to mention much cheaper than any other coffee place. I've had their cakes for all of my kid's birthdays, baptisms etc.... I've tried them all and loved them all. They are now selling cheesecake as well. A must have if you are a cheesecake fanatic like me. I can't say enough good stuff about this great little place. Exactly what everyone has said. The pecan rolls, the princess cake, and the frozen macaroons. All were incredible. The price is pretty reasonable compared with Bouchon bakery and other wine country bakeries. The best part is the employees. I got the about 15 minutes after they closed on a Sunday. It is amazing to find some European classics made to match my memory. They make a small bite size creation called Chocolate mocha cream something on an almond base. This transports me to being 5 years old in Germany and running up the block from my Oma's home to the neighborhood baker every morning to see if these were made yet. I just wish they also did them in vanilla and made them a little bigger, but this is no complaint, only a wish. All the reviews speak of the Princess Cake and I did try that too. It is hands down the best I have had, and I have tried many very good ones over the years. It is delicate allowing all the flavors to marry in every bite. Absolute perfection. Marcella made our wedding cake and it was so lovely. She really took time to meet with us and make sure our cake was perfect. The design was exactly what we asked for and reflected our Irish wedding theme. The cake itself was so delicious, so moist, guests were asking for seconds. Though we had agreed on a very, very reasonable price, I felt that it was so spectacular that it was worth more than that to me and later sent her what I thought was appropriate. Today my husband surprised me with a birthday cake - the Princess Cake, of course! He had heard about the bakery and made a special trip to Sonoma to purchase it. Though we cut into it a day early (it was fresh from the bakery!), we were not disappointed because it was light, well-balanced and fresh. Ahh, the wonderful Princess cake! We had a most beautiful Princess Cake at our wedding reception. Not only was it a real eye-pleaser, all the guests were raving about the cake days after the wedding. In fact, most went back for seconds! In retrospect, I should have gotten a half-sheet as well, as the cake was in such high demand among the guests! I have been going to Scandia Bakery since I was a kid. Most of all my birthday cakes and any other celebration cakes have come from this bakery. When it came to picking out my wedding cake I did go to some award winning bakeries known for their wedding cake designs but was not satisfied with the cost or the taste of the cake. The design I wanted for my wedding cake was more on the modern side and I knew that Scandia had not done something like this before. I met with Marcella to discuss the design with her and she was a little apprehensive with the airbrush flower design since it was not a technique she was familiar using but assured me that she would be able to achieve the overall look I was after. All I can say is that Marcella met and exceeded my expectations for my wedding cake. The design was absolutely beautiful and flawless!!! Marcella is such and amazing and talented baker! Not to mention the cost of the design and cake was more the half the cost of what other bakeries were quoting. As for the taste of the cake, filling and frosting was one of the best we sampled!! The white cake is sooooooo moist and the raspberry and lemon filling is to die for along with the not too sweet frosting. read more

I really like this Bakery! I stop in every time I'm in Sonoma for a tasty and very reasonably priced latte and something sweet in the morning. Their muffins are great. And I usually don't walk out without some extra calories that I hadn't planned on, like a cake, because their cakes are too beautiful to resist and always delicious. In the rip-off world of wedding vendors, nothing is more rip-off than cake. Oh, wait, there is...wedding cake in an overpriced wedding destination like Sonoma. Really, ten dollars for a slice of cake? I'm getting married, not getting lobotomized! Anyway, I really didn't want to pay rip-off prices for cake and I hate fondant. So we looked for a local bakery to make cupcakes, and we found Scandia Bakery. This place is old school, for sure. It's not Kara's Korporate Kupcakes; it's not Sprinkles. And therein lies its charms. It's the bakery from when you were a kid, with glass cases filled with homemade-looking yummies. The owner Marcela is a baker. She makes delicious cupcakes at very reasonable prices (a third of the so-called "wedding bakeries"). She's sweet, too. She doesn't really do email so you'll have to play phone tag, but she does return calls. In the end, we had three kinds of cupcakes: vanilla with lemon frosting, chocolate with mocha frosting, and chocolate filled with raspberry mousse and topped with vanilla frosting. They were devoured by our guests. Marcela even made a small presentation cake to put at the top of the tower, and to give us something to cut. Everything was delicious! I had a very stressful time with this Bakery. I needed a cake for Nov 8th, I placed my order Sept 28th because I was planning a girls weekend. Maybe it was way too early to order. I placed a phone order, then sent a them an email of a picture of the cake the same day (sept 28th), the next day I received a call from the Maricella that she received it and can totally make the cake. 3 days prior to the event, I called to confirm my cake will be ready on time and if I could speak to Maricella because I was considering downsizing my cake, but didn't want to take away from the design, they said she was busy and would call me back. 2 days prior to the event I called again when I didn't receive a call, they said she was busy and she would call me back. The day before the event when I still hadn't heard from her I called again and I demanded to speak to her. She said she couldn't find my email and she needed me to send it again, and to call her back once I sent it. I was hesitant stating it was hard to reach her, and she said, put your phone number in the email and I will just call you when I receive it. I re-sent the email and never got a call back. Morning of Nov 8th I called at 9am and said, hey im supposed to have a cake ready at 11am, I need to make sure its exactly like the picture, I placed my order Over 1 month ago and have been calling for 3 days. They said Maricella is not here don't worry we have your order to be ready at 11am and we assure you she has the email. I said okay, I hope so, Ill actually be there at Noon but it needs to be ready thanks. Sure enough my cake was not ready until 12:40, and I waited in the bakery from 11:50am. They gave me a considerable discount for my trouble which was nice, but I was irritated and over it at that point. That night we cut into the cake for my sister in laws 40th birthday and It was the BEST CAKE any of us have EVER EATEN! OMG! Im not even a big cake fan, but WOW! THIS CAKE WAS WORTH EVERY MINUTE OF MY TROUBLE AND WORRY. MY sisterinlaw who hates Fonduit said it was the thinnest and well done Funduit that shes ever eaten, we had the PRINCESS Cake and the cake was very moist, filling was delicious and almond Matzpan topping was so light and frothy. Maricella is probably so hard to get a hold of because her cakes are so high in demand. Thanks for a great cake, we will come see you everytime we are in the Napa/Sonoma area! Wow! I stopped in here to pick up a last-minute birthday cake as it was too hot to bake my own and was blown out of the water by just how good it turned out to be. I chose a chocolate cake with raspberry filling, iced with chocolate and decorated with raspberries. It looked beautiful, but I figured it would taste like many bakery cakes I've had in the past - you know, "all beauty/no substance"? Like those cakes that are hard or taste like they were previously frozen? Not this one! It tasted like it had been made fresh at home (except it was way more beautiful than anything I could've made). The cake was soft, the icing was delicious, and it wasn't too sweet or too rich. The next evening we had some of the leftovers and were presently surprised to find the cake was just as soft and delicious as the previous day, and I hadn't even wrapped it - I just left it in its box in the fridge. I decided on getting a birthday cake at Scandi after looking at all of the beautiful pictures of cakes on this Yelp website and Scandia's Facebook website. I was a little hesitant because of the previous reviews of bad service, but I am good about following up myself so I thought I'd give it a try. I should not have. At the initial meeting, the folks at Scandia wanted to rush me through the ordering process. I requested a picture printed on the front of the cake and IMMEDIATELY followed up with an email of three possible pictures. I received no confirmation from them that they even received the email. Three days later, I emailed them again to see if they had gotten the pictures via email and also notified them that my phone broke so they would have to communicate via email. Nothing. Crickets. Two days later (five days into the process), the day I needed the cake, I received an email that they had been trying to call me (thanks for nothing) and their printer was broken so they could not complete my cake design. I needed my cake in three hours. Luckily, I was on email and gave them instructions on how to redirect the cake design, but when I followed up with a call a couple of hours before I needed the cake, they still had not started and nobody had any information on the cake design yet. When I picked this cake up, it looked like they had spent 15 minutes on its design and my three-year-old niece could have done a better job. They charged me an arm and a leg for it and when I complained that the design was not what I ask for, they offered me TWO WHOLE DOLLARS as a refund. Two dollars. I told them to forget the two dollars and hoped that the cake would be amazingly tasty to outdo the ugly exterior. It was average. The folks at Scandia do not want your business if they put little time into the product. Go to Safeway instead. The cake I purchased the week before at the grocery store was tasty, they cared about the design and it was half the cost. Everybody was impressed. Nobody was impressed by the messy and basic Scandia cake. Avoid the lazy, uninformed employees, the average tasting cake and the worst design I have seen. read more

Marcela at Scandia is amazing! My husband and I used her for our wedding in March and she created a dream wedding cake for us that tasted absolutely wonderful. Everyone was raving about the cake and how beautiful and delicious it was. We were also celebrating my Dad's 75th birthday and she made an incredibly yummy chocolate cake with fresh raspberries and a chocolate mousse. She worked really well with all the vendors. The princess cake from Scandia Bakery is my go-to cake for birthdays, luncheons, etc. The cake is dome shaped and has layers of cake, custard, cream, and then a marzipan layer on the top. Amazing. A good value too. read more

My husband is from Sonoma (where we were getting married; we live an hour away) and loved Scandia and their prices seemed good, so we got our wedding cake there. They were able to accommodate us at a kinda late (not terribly so, but I was getting worried about procuring some vendors) date. The cake was DELICIOUS. I have hated almost every wedding cake I ever had-- too much about the looks and not about the taste. I wanted a fondant-look without the yuck and she was able to manage that in a delicious off-white buttercream. All I knew was I wanted was a simple off-white cake with some scroll work all around the sides and NO shells... I think they look tacky... she whipped up a quick sketch and voila. We had red roses and petals and our topper dropped off the day-of and ta-da BEST WEDDING CAKE EVER! oh, and the CAKE-- we did four layers, I believe-- the bottom was chocolate with fresh raspberries and raspberry puree layered between, one of the middle two layers were white with a lemon yumminess layered between, and I can't recall what the other one was but it was equally delicious, and then the top was another chocolate/raspberry. Somehow someone misplaced our top layer and I almost cried because It hadn't been touched! We got so many compliments and we absolutely loved our cake! We celebrated our 5-year anniversary this past summer, and I'm still raving about the cake. :) read more
