    Lobster bake pizza
    Steve H.

Met my brother and his wife for lunch This place is huge with lots of little eating areas and a large variety of. It is a converted house. My wife and I split a lobster bake pizza which was plenty of food. The only downside was that was the most expensive flatbread pizza we have ever bought.

We've been coming here for years to celebrate special family events but it's a great place to go for a drink or a nice meal in a beautiful tavern. Consistently great service, warm and inviting atmosphere and top notch food make this a special dining experience.

Ughhh. It pains me to write this because I love this place but I had a less-than-stellar experience here recently.... My girlfriends and I came here for our annual Christmas dinner. We all ordered salads to start. I got the scarlet salad. While the flavor was delicious, the salad felt "cheap & flimsy." Like they were afraid to put too many ingredients on my plate. For my entree, I ordered the filet mignon (medium-rare) with mashed potatoes and spinach. The steak was cooked correctly but dry as a bone. Not juicy or flavorful. My friend got the same steak and commented that she wished she ordered a sauce with it and I agree! For dessert, I ordered the maple bread pudding. Even though it was good/average, it was the best part of my meal...

The first impression was a county Inn! With lots of nooks and crannies to sit and enjoy a meal or drinks! The wait was not long and we got the best table that was near the entrance for at least 5 and very secluded from other diners! The staff waitress Giada who was super attentive and pleasant! Our guest host ordered for us and was happy to do so! When the food arrived it was plated perfectly and yet it tasted better than perfectly! The whole dinning experience was enjoyable and the atmosphere perfect! I can say that the menu was varied and interesting!

Absolutely charming spot, I loved the ambiance there, you can smell the fireplace when you enter. We were seated by the fireplace and had an excellent waiter. We ordered baked brie and carbonara ravioli for apps, caesar salad and hangar steak frites for entree, and I ordered the bogged down drink. Everything was really good, if they had more vegetarian options, it'll be a 5 but this restaurant isn't catered to vegetarians, regardless my boyfriend said the food was really good. They also had complimentary cornbread.

Very nice place, it's busy so make a reservation. Hunted this place down after finding out it has the same folks as Gibbet Hill running it. Many like dishes on the menu, but then some different ones. Good dink selection and wine list. Everything was very tasty. Albeit the crab cheddar dip could use some lump crab meat to put it over the top. My filet was good perfect and the onion rings were spot on.

I really do not like to write negative reviews but sometimes it is necessary. I took some elderly folks for a nice lunch on a beautiful day. There were 4 of us. Ned was our server and was spot on from start to finish. Now for the food.. 2 Reubens, 1 Cobb salad and 1 watermelon/feta salad with candied walnuts. The Reuben's barely had any MEAT IN THEM.. I mean they were as flat looking as flat looking could be..we both literally removed everything from one half of the sandwich and put it into the other half to make a decent sandwich which still was not what I have had so many times at other restaurants. Ned asked how everything was so I told him. He asked if I wanted something else.. I said no I wanted a good Reuben. The watermelon/feta salad was not at all to her liking and she said she would not order it again. The elderly gentleman enjoyed his Cobb salad thank goodness. The manager did come by to speak to us and I told him exactly what I am writing in this review.. that it was a flat with no meat and he responded " well we do put a press on them on the grill!" The sandwiches were flat because they HAD SO LITTLE MEAT IN THEM! Ugh it will be a long time before any of us visit Scarlet Oak again! To be honest we all expected so much more!

I started with a house margarita while I perused the menu and filled in my taco selections on the paper order form. I was pleasantly surprised how quickly my drink was made, and after ordering my tacos, how quickly they came out as well. I love the size of Bartaco's tacos - they're more of a street taco, so you can order multiple different ones (four was plenty for dinner). The ahi tuna, chicken, pork belly, and duck were all delicious! I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu!

Bartender was…read morefantastic, drinks fantastic, and pork belly tacos, as advertised were the best item on the menu. Since then we'd been a few times. Last night, 3 stars might be even too much. When we were waiting for our table at the hostess stand, we and another party saw a mouse. My husband stated he thought it ran over his foot. I asked if we should go... but as we are veterans of living in the city and mice being pretty normal, we decided to stay. Maybe we should have gone to have a better night. Service at the start was fine, but then drinks did not come until after the first round of food. In addition, as I've seen from a few reviews here, we received an additional tray of tacos that was not ours, which a runner then took away and looked to serve to the correct table. Having worked in the restaurant industry, I know you never take a plate of food from one table and move it to another. Everything came out within 7 to 10 minutes, which was great, but a few of the tacos seemed like they had been sitting and were soggy which I took to mean they were sitting prepped in the kitchen and just popped on the table. Who knows. Because then when we ordered a few more tacos, we waited about 20 minutes before starting to look around and our server not once making eye contact. 10 minutes later, my husband and daughter left to go to the bookstore while I waited for the check and as soon as they had left, the tacos came out, in a to go box. The server did not offer to do anything in regards to the long wait time, which even if I wouldn't have taken, should have been addressed. We won't be coming back for a long time... It seems they've lost their way. If you do go...the pork belly taco and the crispy oyster taco were both delicious (even if soggy).

We ordered the Zucchini Fries which were amazing! Super crispy and the aioli paired perfectly with the flavors of the fries. I thoroughly enjoyed the Shrimp Alla Busara...a dish that brought me back to when I was small and my uncle would prepare a similar dish. Each ingredient in the delicious sauce shined through in a beautiful way. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and almost had the taste and consistency of lobster. There was a generous slice of crusty bread which I used to sop the sauce at the end. My god it was good. Paired with a great little off the menu but on the menu side salad of fennel, orange and arugula, this was the perfect portioned meal for me. My mom had the small portion of the Vodka Radiatori which was spicy the way she likes. Jessica checked in and gave our compliments to the chef!! For dessert we had the perfectly portioned small Pistachio Cannoli. The filling was exquisite with a hint of orange which elevated the ricotta to a delectable level! This was a STELLAR meal made all the better by our server, Jessica! We arrived on the early side just after they opened so the ambiance was still rather quiet and subdued. By the time we left more tables had filled and the place was really coming to life. Highly highly recommend if you are in search of some very well prepared Italian food. The Fermentary carries other local breweries' beer - Widowmaker, Vitamin Sea, Stellwagen, etc. They also carry all natural wines and have some snacks to munch on (the pretzel and queso are really good!). They made some nice upgrades. It seems brighter and maybe more seating. Only "negatives" we've seen are that they are very heavy on IPAs (mostly double and triples, the couple times we've been), which isn't too bad for us, because we really only drink IPAs, but if you're looking for a lager or an ale, your options might be limited. Also, they don't have cable, so if it's a local game you're trying to catch, you'll be out of luck. Notice they've had some events held there - seems like it would be a great spot for that (nice open space with fireplace and tv). This will definitely be our go-to for a laid back afternoon/early evening, quick drink or two. Definitely check it out!
