Oh. My. God. What a wonderful surprise! I have travelled passed this restaurant( different names over the years) probably 500 times never once did I try it. So, we were looking for an early dinner. 5:30 PM. We were shocked at how crowded the place was at that hour on a weekday. This ain't New York! But, our meals were wonderful and we will be back. Wedding Rehearsal Dinner From the first contact to the very end of the event night, the folks at SOT could not have been more helpful, understanding and responsive. Katie, Daryn and Danny were everything a person could hope for when planning so a very important evening. The food was delicious and plentiful as well. The space was perfect. We had our own dining room, bar and bathroom area; it was perfect. The staff, servers and bartenders were the nicest, so friendly and helpful. I've been meaning to come here for years, and finally my husband and I came last week. It was hard to get a reservation, especially the day after Valentine's Day, but it's easy to see why! We ended up having a 9pm reservation, which is late for us to eat, but I'm so glad we did! The house is cozy and perfect and gives you the feeling that you are dining in someone's home and not at a restaurant. The waitstaff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Our waiter was great with answering any questions we had because we were having a hard time deciding which dish we wanted amongst the various delicious and creative options listed on the menu. The mixed drinks are very well done, and extremely unique. For an appetizer we started with the Baked Westfield Farms Goat Cheese. It was so delicious that I burnt my mouth several times because I couldn't wait for it to cool down before I kept eating it. The chip to dip ratio was perfect. Usually at other establishments there's too much dip and not enough chips or visa versa. I could have ordered another one of these for my main course as well! My husband got the cast iron chicken, and over a week later he hasn't stopped talking about the chorizo corn bread stuffing that it came with. I think I'll be trying this dish the next time I come! I ordered the steak frites. The steak was cooked to perfection and I absolutely loved the frites. They were super thin and crispy. And the arugula salad was fresh and crisp. I wasn't able to finish all of my food so I was able to take it home and enjoy it a second time. The desserts looked amazing but we were too full to order any. Hopefully next time! Where to even begin. Our a night at the Scarlet Oak started with trying to make the reservation days ago by following the instructions on the phone. We were booking for a birthday party and my wife called to confirm that our reservation was made two days after leaving a voicemail. Come to find out they had never checked their voicemail and a reservation was never made. Thank God she called to confirm because this would've been a nightmare if she did not, The only savior of the night was our waiter Andrew, who was impeccable. The food was top-notch as always, and most of the night was enjoyable. Unfortunately, our night ended with the valet, almost hitting my car, and then flipping me off after he was speeding through the parking lot trying to hammer a left turn without slowing down or using a turn signal. Will we go back, yes but only because the service was so good. Not recommended for event's however as ours was screwed up by the administrative staff. We have been patrons more than once and been there for many events over the years. A little bummed the ball was dropped. read more

I have been coming to Scarlet Oak since it opened. I have found the ambiance, service and food exceptional. The burger is one of the best I have tasted. However, I tried the steak tips recently and found them very tough. I would recommend choosing something else on the menu. read more

Think COVID has effected quality here.Our last dinner never rose above ordinary or as one reviewer noted expensive pub food. I hope they get back on track but for now there are far better choices at this price point. read more

What a wonderful dining experience. I from Cleveland and met two Boston friends here for dinner. The sirloin tips were excellent, as were the cocktails and dessert. The service was outstanding! Took our mom here for an early Mother's Day dinner, and we were all pleasantly surprised. The decor is warm, fuzzy, and cozy. Everyone was welcoming, and valet parking was also complimentary. Dinner included some fresh oysters, calamari, steaks of various cuts, and then tortellini for my dear husband. Oysters were delectable, and tasted phenomenally wonderful. I wasn't too too crazed about the calamari because the oysters were like wow. Steaks were very, very good. I got the sirloin, which I should have gotten cooked medium. It was tasty, just a little on the dry side (I had gotten medium well). I normally get filets, but decided to try a different cut this time around. Bearnaise sauce was a good accompaniment as well as the grilled shrimp. The sides that I chose were the spinach and garlic mash. Both were good choices as well. I'd been hearing about this place for a while and had been meaning to go. Finally! The food here was exquisite. That is the main attraction for sure however the ambiance is very nice, local diners looking for an elegant yet unpretentious dinner. The whole place is very clean, the service is great, and the valet is an added perk. The goat cheese and flatbread appetizer was creamy, decadent, and savory. For dinner I had the pork osso bucco which was heaven on a plate - comforting, perfectly spiced, melt in your mouth pork. The smores dessert was another layer of decadence - a fun twist on an old favorite and executed perfectly. I can't recommend this place high enough. I'm dying to go back! read more

Scarlet Oak Tavern is *the* place on the South Shore for a nice dinner out, whether it be entertaining out-of-town guests or celebrating a birthday or anniversary. I've dined at Scarlet Oak for both lunch and dinner; while I prefer dinner service, lunch service is a much more enjoyable time. Parking: -complimentary valet, especially useful for those with limited mobility -parking gets tight early on (like, before 5PM), so expect to park far away if not using valet. Ambiance: -posh, cozy, date night worthy decor -wooden floors are very slippery in stilettos, use caution -seating in the bar, or at booths or tables in the restaurant section -very loud, little to no acoustic dampening. This is most obvious during dinnertime; literally expect to have to shout across the table and/or pretend like you can hear what your tablemates are going on about. Reservations/Wait Time: -reservation times are strange. We were told that on a Saturday night, no reservations were given for 6PM seating. We opted to come in at their 5PM seating (which we were glad we did). -later reservations can expect delays in their seating. Food: -excellent dinner menu, moderately expensive ($20+ for entrees). -reasonable portions for the price -best bang for your buck: steak tips with 2 sides (you choose) for $21. Best steak tips I've had, and always enough for leftovers. -as a note, this restaurant (and all of its employees) are very knowledgeable about gluten-free needs. Drinks: -full bar, beer and cocktail list on the table, wine list on the back of the regular menu. -pro tip: if 2+ people are drinking wine, it's cheaper to get a bottle Service: -always pleasant service at Scarlet Oak from the waiters: quick, efficient, friendly. -although dinner service can be a bit drawn out, you'll never want for anything. There were 6 of us, stopped in for an early dinner on Friday due to a recommendation from a local hotel. From the moment we stepped on the property we we completely taken care of. We had complimentary valet service at the door and were able to grab a cozy, comfortable round corner table near the bar. Our server, Lee, was outstanding. We had multiple drinks, a great rum punch, fantastic martinis and margaritas. We enjoyed the calamari, crab dip, oysters and clams before dinner. The kitchen staff did a fabulous job preparing the oysters and clams, there wasn't a trace of sand in any them. Our dinners were also outstanding! We had a few folks order pizzas, one had the bacon wrapped meatloaf which was really tasty. Steak tips were cooked perfectly. Another person had the haddock and thought it was wonderful. We were so impressed with the drinks, meals and the friendly, attentive service we received we are excited to return. read more

So there were 3 of us from work that hit our sales numbers for the month of December and our super cool boss decided to take us to the Scarlet Oak Tavern last week for lunch. One I really love about this place is the lovely scent of the woodburning stove that hits you when you get near the front door of the Tavern. My work buddy and I commented on that as we were walking in. Service was speedy and attentive as was my last experience here. We'll just get right to it. The appetizers we we decided on was the scarlet salad, garlicky shrimp and baby back ribs. There were no negative comments about either of these, but there were no raving comments also. My co-worker buddy sitting next to me didn't seem to be wowed by his baby back ribs. I did not try them or the shrimp, so I could not comment on them. My scarlet salad was fine, it did what I needed it to do. For entrees, my buddy decided to go with the "Gus Burger". The presentation of the burger with the fried egg on top of the meat surrounded by a bed of crispy and appealing onion rings looked fantastic. The comments on that entree were very positive. My other co-worker sitting opposite of me along with myself decided on the "Center Cut Filet Mignon." The steak was cooked to perfection and was flavorful as it was juicy. The mixed greens and red bliss potatoes were also just fine. Our boss went with the " Sirloin Steak Tips" and seemed to be quite satisfied with them. We were on the fence about a desert, but the ladies decided on the "S'mores." We all tried a little bit of it and were not quite impressed with it at all. The outer cookie- like shell was bland tasting and the marshmellow was just boring. I am not so sure much can be done with a s'mores desert anyhow - it is what it is and we should have picked something different. All in all, I am still a big fan of this place. I went for steak and I was quite pleased with it. My 4 star rating remains for an appealing atomosphere, excellent service and fabulous entrees. Date night on the south shore? How about the Scarlet Oak Tavern? I can remember when this place was the Witten House with the parking lot full of Buicks and QTips. Started with a drink at the bar. Nice tavern decor with low ceilings and fireplace. Bartender was attentive and friendly. The menu is comprehensive without being too lengthy. My date opted for the Clams and Linguine and I chose the tuna. Apparently since the chef won 10 large on the dish, who was I to say how to cook it. Our waitress helped with a nice pairing for the meal. The tuna was fresh with a nice sear on the outside. They served it sliced into small medallions with a drizzle of spicy remoulade over a bed of quinoa with pieces of beets mixed in. I'm admittedly not a big fan of beets. Maybe if my mom hadn't made us eat them at gun point, I would feel differently. That notwithstanding, they were tasty and added a nice texture. My date reported positive comments on her dish. The siblings, brother in law and I took mom out for this past Mother's Day to Scarlet Oak Tavern in Hingham and we all loved it. The tavern itself is beautiful with a homey and welcoming atmosphere. For appetizers, we ordered the calamari and four oysters to try. The calamari is dipped in a buttermilk coating and I've never had calamari that way. Needless to say I thought it was on the saltier side. Nan S and I were feeling bold and we went for two oysters each. I've had bad oysters in the past, but these were fresh and addictive! I wanted to order more, but next time for sure. The main course was the highlight of our evening. Everyone got steak, but my brother in law who is a vegetarian. He ordered the Sweet Pea and Ricotta tortellini and enjoyed every bit of it. I got the 20 oz of the Bone in Ribeye medium well with garlic mashed potatoes and roasted asparagus. My mind was blown that night because I think I found my favorite restaurant on the south shore to get steak! The steak was cooked just the way I wanted and I really enjoyed the béarnaise sauce on top. The marinade from the steak and the béarnaise combined tasted full of herbs, butter and quite savory. Before leaving, we just couldn't pass up dessert. We nibbled on the s'mores bread pudding with marshmallows and a graham cracker crunch. I found the bottom portion inedible because it was so hard. I nibbled on carrot cake that mom ordered and that was delicious. Our server for the night (didn't get her name, sorry!) was friendly and attentive. She really sold us on the oysters and recommended the brunch. I'm definitely coming back for more steak and brunch. read more

We come here once in a while, not often at all. Today we sat at the bar for lunch, and ordered a couple of drinks, which were fine. However, food was overcooked. A reuben was burnt on the edges, a burger ordered medium was most definitely well done, and onion rings on both were cooked to the point they were hard. The server overheard a comment that the reuben was burnt and comped it, which was nice, but I'm in no rush to go back. read more

I wanted to like this place so much but it is very honestly overrated. The best part about it is the atmosphere- after that it falls apart. I had a horrible experience here a couple of years ago and you would think that would be enough to keep me away- but I gave it another try last night as I have a best friend that lives nearby and we wanted to celebrate her birthday somewhere in the neighborhood. Headline? That bartender wanted OUT of the place and if she could have closed the restaurant down at that very moment (8:00 pm)- she would have. We had a couple glasses of wine at the bar- my second pour was not what I ordered so I let one of the bartenders know walking by and she kindly switched it to the correct one. This was the nicer bartender who didn't seem to be there as the night went on. No big deal- but the bartender who initially poured the wrong glass came over and blamed the other one (not in a kind-hearted way but sort of pissed off)- saying she had typed it wrong in the system. Awkward... That should have been a sign to move to the dining room for our actual meal but since we were settled in our seats and the Celtics game was on, we stayed put. The service got worse after that- and really that was the main issue. I don't know if this girl was having a bad day- but really- not our problem? We asked for bread and you would have thought we asked for the moon. Clearing away our appetizer plates, she yanked away the basket we were clearly still enjoying. This girl just seemed SO angry the entire time we were there, and for the most part we kept to ourselves outside of ordering a couple of glasses of wine, entree, and night cap. Oh and the bread basket she didn't want us to have. My friend just had triplets and she doesn't get out too much so I had hoped this would be a really special night but it just felt spoiled by the unhappiness that was being projected from behind the bar. Suggestion? Don't work with the public if you are going to act that way. It's really not a good look and has now permanently kept me away from this place now forever and made me write this negative review. The gentleman bartender was better- I had to chase him down for the nightcaps eventually because the unhappy bartender seemed to be in avoidance mode. I actually told the female bartender at the end of the night that I was really unhappy with the service. It was awkward to do- but I was finally pushed over the edge as we were just checking the bill and at that point (and I kid you not) she was looking over us trying to get us to give it to her with the payment. The impatience in her demeanor was palpable. It was NOT closing time but prior to- so finally I just told her- "this was not a great experience". She gave an really insincere apology and asked if there was anything that could be done- but honestly the reaction did not feel genuine and did not redeem the evening that had gone sour. The food is just okay. Even with good service I wouldn't go running to Scarlet Oak Tavern- but certainly would have returned given most of my friends live on the South Shore, had the service been better. read more

We used to LOVE this restaurant. We loved it so much, in fact, that when it was time to book our 50-person wedding rehearsal dinner, we couldn't think of anywhere better. The dinner itself was fine - service wasn't amazing but the food was excellent. The problem came when after dinner, we went to retrieve our car from the valet and they were completely clueless as to where the key went. Now, I understand things get misplaced and was completely patient with the young man at the valet stand. Until, he accused me of never giving him the key! Ok, sir. You just drove off and parked the car and LOCKED it with no key? So we sat around while the incompetent manager continued to act like there was NO WAY they could have lost it. Because... protocols! This was also the night before the wedding and as the bride who was now down a BMW key (and ride home!), I was understandably getting more and more frustrated. We had spent $6000 dollars and they lost the key and could not apologize. Guess what - two hours later they call because they had found the key I never gave them! I will not be returning to this restaurant and neither will our friends and family living in the area. Not one apology from anyone. read more
