Great little spot for fresh sushi and more -- not "salty" at all! I'm happy to say that Salty Days is one of the good speciality seafood places that you could count on one hand in the South Shore. The sushi rolls are hearty and could make a meal in and of itself. Fish was fresh, but I found the flavors in the rolls a bit muddled and on the sweeter side. We had honey and mango in our rolls that accounted for the sweetness, but I would have appreciated some acid or perhaps more salt (ironically) to cut it. I also sampled a poke bowl. Tuna was tasty and appreciated the texture of the crunchy bits. Service was friendly -- although they taunted us a bit as the TV on the wall had a live stream of a bar in St. John's. Want to know what that's about. Came once before early on and service and portions felt a bit off -- no longer -- they are learning and appear to be hitting their stride. On a side note, if you are like me, you're a bit confused why Greater Boston has nice seaside towns but don't lean enough into the ocean's flavor. Quality food & great ambiance. A menu with something for everyone. It was Friday night so there was a bit of a wait, as expected, but well worth it. Stopped in for dinner while passing thru Cohasset. Dinner was fantastic! Some of the Best chowder you'll have in New England! The generous sushi rolls were delicious and incredibly fresh. The Caprese chicken was great for dinner, and enough left over to take hike to enjoy the next day. Fintastic maki and fresh seafood dishes, warm, rich chowder and a delightfully cozy dining room stand out in this easily passed-by eatery and fish market by Red Lion Inn. Expect the unexpected, too, as their bone-in wings are just as nicely prepared as their baked cod sandwich, as their beautifully plated seafood bucatini (mussels, scallops, shrimp). Excellent local beer list, The only saltiness comes from the unnerving practice of serving canned sodas (we the thirsty clamor for fountain refills at not $3 a literal pop) and the tuna nachos, which were in desparate need of... tuna. As that old lady in the Wendy's commercials said: "Where's the reef?" Or something like that. Kid's menu is awesome, as reported by a 5 and 8 year old. The best mac and cheese, and a burger they wouldn't let me try, plus hot, crispy fries and their own wee bottles of Heinz! We stopped here for lunch while in the area and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Inside is small but casual, located right on a Main Street with lots of shopping. We both had the seaweed salad and sushi which was delicious. My husband has a gluten intolerance and they were very accommodating with ensuring there was no tempura in his sushi, and providing a separate dish of gluten free soy sauce. Best bathroom on the South Shore, no contest. Why start a restaurant review talking about bathrooms? Because, my rule of thumb is that a restaurant's attention to detail and quality of food is tied to its bathroom. If a restaurant is so busy pumping out food that they ignore the bathroom, then either it's a really old-school hole-in-the wall (in which case they get a free pass) or they're going to show that same lack of attention to the way they prepare your food. And Salty Days proves my point. You walk into the place and its bright, clean, and modern-looking, which is no small feat considering that it looks like one of the older buildings in Cohasset Village. The moment you go to the bathroom, you notice the beauty of the frosted glass which occupies the top half of the bathroom door. A restaurant bathroom door that's half-glass is almost unheard of these days. And the glass is professionally acid-etched frosted with a thin border of non-etched window which is really chic. Then you enter the bathroom and it's immaculate. You wouldn't think twice about having your meal in there. Okay, maybe you might think twice, but their bathroom is cleaner than the main eating rooms in the vast majority of restaurants. I've never said such things about any restaurant's bathroom, but this bathroom was sparkling clean and bright with a high-quality faucet that's stylishly off to one side of the sink, and the sink countertop is a beautiful quartz. Just to show you what this place represents, they use Charmin toilet paper. None of that cheap no-name sandpaper substitute that feels like it's been recycled 15 times. How do I know it was Charmin's? Because I saw the packages of spare rolls. And because it was soft as a baby's bottom. So, what about the food? Top-notch. We tried two pasta dishes (Seafood Buccatini and Shrimp & Pasta), and everything was fresh and wonderfully seasoned. The seared scallops on corn risotto was fantastic as well. Fresh seafood on homemade pasta is a winner that can't be beat. Their truffle fries are probably one of the best fries I've ever tasted anywhere. They're like old-school McDonald's fries (which used to be the best of all fast food fries) but majorly elevated to fine dining. We also ordered the Harborman Crunch Roll because the moment I walked in, I noticed that they have a top-notch restaurant rice cooker that I've seen in other top sushi restaurants, so I had to order something with rice to test it out. And the sushi was fantastic. I'm constantly disappointed by how sub-standard restaurant rice is, but Salty Days has their A-game going with their rice, as well as the rest of the ingredients in their sushi roll. What about the service? Our server was Melissa, and she was fantastic. I'm tired of waitstaff who try to maintain a standoffish "professional decorum". What works far better is being personable, attentive, and anticipatory. And Melissa is all of those things in spades. She's the sort of positive person that elevates all those around her. There was another person who I think was the manager. His name is Sean. Like Melissa, Sean gives off major positive vibes. During our time there, he had this wonderful way of going from table-to-table and interacting with diners in a way that is just right and feels like a good friend inquiring about the meal. Then there are all the accoutrements of the dining experience. The silverware and drinking glasses were spotless, the bowls and plates were immaculately matched for design, they had wonderful large cotton napkins, and they even provide ketchup in the form of the 2.25 ounce mini bottles of Heinz Ketchup where you have to break the seal to use it. They even give you a lemon to squeeze that has a strainer on it so no seeds go onto your foo. Amazing!!!! Then there was the Diet Coke. Most good restaurants can't seem to get the carbonation correct when they prepare it themselves via a fountain machine. And for many of the rest who don't even try and just give it to you in a can, the can is warm and so when you add it to a glass full of ice, the carbonation gets screwed up. But Salty Days not only gave me a can along with a glass of wonderfully-sized ice, but that can was ice-cold. In fact, it was so perfectly cold that I didn't even need to use the ice. These details may seem like small things, but in aggregate they have the effect that the Four Seasons Hotels go for: to make their establishment singularly and wonderfully memorable without people really being cognizant of why the place seemed so special. And to cap it all off, by the end of the meal, even if you have to go to their bathroom, it's something you'll be looking forward to rather than the standard dread that accompanies the vast majority of restaurant bathrooms. It's all about the great circle of life. Salty Days is a winner on all fronts. It's my new go-to spot, and it's the high standard by which I'll be evaluating all other restaurants from now on. read more

My husband Dale took me to Salty Days for our 43rd Anniversary, and let's just say it was a hoozie! I ordered the spicy Poke Bowl, while Daley got a delicious smash burger. This is now a favorite. We went early Friday and had swordfish and shrimp and grits. My wife said this was the best swordfish she has had in the last ten years and she has it at least 10-20 times a year. I had the shrimp and grits and would put it on par with what I enjoyed in NOLA.... It was that good. Moderate heat, shrimp were perfect and the cheese grits were perfectly cooked. Worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. Last summer, I went out for a nice meal with my family and there was a 20 minute wait (which was perfectly fine) 2 hours later, I show back up to the restaurant angry to find my table is still not ready. Today, I show back up to the restaurant with a hopeful mind that the service was just a simple mistake the first time. This time there is again a 30 minute wait, so I put in my number and wait until my phone is called for my table to be ready. Instead, I never get a call. I show back up to the restaurant and apparently they once again messed up my spot in line. Maybe it would be better for the incompetent and uneducated workers to maybe have a system that has reservations as they simply cannot understand how to run a functioning restaurant. THANKS SALTY DAYS for ruining my evening once again! Making this town proud as always for your inability to know how to treat people right. The Wife and I ended up at a Sushi Place in Downtown Cohasset, my Sister-In-Law, my Nephew and Niéce worked there this Summer, such a great place to eat, we both liked out Meals, our Waiter Nelson was amazing person, we stated with Avocado Sushi for an Appetizer, it was delicious, she had a Smash Cheeseburger with Watermelon and she liked it, I had the big Poke Bowl with lots of Seafood from Salmon and Tuna and great Flavor, we will definitely be back again for a great Dinner, everything was fantastic and great service!!!! read more

This score may seem harsh but it's sincere. I honestly was pulling for this place but it's clear they lack in several key areas. "The good" vibe, location and people. "The bad" the fried fish, French fries . Sushi was not freshly shipped or local. All openly squeezed out of plastic bags... big time bummer. Didn't taste that bad but not what I expected. You walk in and there's merch scattered and poorly folded on a display table. The manager was propped up in the best seat in the house managing staff seemed like a good dude but seemingly not a restaurant professional. Had to track down my waitress for a second drink while she folded setups in prime seating area. The interior design was definitely having an identity crisis. Not sure what theme they're going for? It needs a John Tapper make over. I caught the waitress on my way back from the restroom and asked her to bring a surprise chocolate mouse for her birthday and the food runner/ busboy came over and blew the surprise... just off the mark. Three whole years??? I cannot believe that we did not know about this amazing local place for three whole years. We found ourselves here with friends on Saturday night who had heard about Salty Days but never visited. They made a reservation (which turned out to be helpful because it scored us a great high top table in the heart of the place during a busy dinner rush). It offers lots of local craft beers and a creative, fun menu which feels more Back Bay than South Shore. Mussels! Caesar salad! Perfectly ripe watermelon slices as a side! Two of us loved the Lobster Ravioli special, while our other peeps tried a scallop dish and a huge burger. We shared one slice of delicious chocolate birthday cake for an impromptu celebration to end the night. There were no leftovers to take home. Our server Julia was attentive, efficient, and sparkling with both enthusiasm and a good sense of humor. Sean, the owner, was exceptionally friendly and helpful, too.
