I've gone to Scata's for nearly 20 years now. I've always had a good experience with them, and have a great working relationship with the whole staff. They've always been very accommodating and professional in our dealings. I felt compelled to write this review because Yelp seems to be filled with mainly negative reviews from negative, cheap, rude and entitled people who feel that a business, no matter what it may be, should drop whatever they're doing at the moment and give them million dollar service for just one dollar. Came by for a quick emissions testing. Was able to call in for an apt a half hour after making the call which was great as the Firestone that I had gone to would have made me wait for hours as they were short staffed. The location was easy to get to only a couple minutes from the airport near the plazas with restaurants for those travels that have a layover. Check in was a breeze. $10 cash for the testing and only one car in front of mine. They had a TV for your time right beside another TV that you could watch your emission testing being done. They even had a small snack section for those that needed to munch while they wait for their car to be fixed. All in all was in and out in a half an hour and with this time of the year being emission testing I'm glad that I got it done before the crowd came in a little while afterwards. I'll be going back for sure. Maybe I'll have to see how their other services fare. Stay turned. read more

Went in for an oil change, took about a half hour. I had an appointment. No issues. The only thing that really bothered me was that the man who waited on me upon arrival was not wearing a face covering. There was no plexiglass barrier in between he and I either. All the customers has face coverings and the rest of the staff that came out from the service area did as well. read more

Went to Scata's at the recommendation of an engineer who has used Scata's in the past for auto repair jobs. I walked in expecting to pay no more than $500 but ended up paying a little over $600 for four new brake pads and rotors. My brakes seriously had a problem, it was vibrating and I was due for new brake pads and fluids. So assuming the parts cost ($50 per pair for rotors and $50 per pair for brakes) that brings me up to $100 for pads and brakes. Then you figure $200 for labor. You come up to $300. I paid $600 but I did google the average price others were paying. It seems people were paying $250 for front or back to replace brakes and rotor. I had all four done simply because I wear out my brakes and I wanted to get it out of the way. I can't say I got the greatest deal but my car is fixed and they didn't try to sell me other services. I made my appointment yesterday and they were able to get me in 8AM this morning. The wait was rather long. I usually hate dealing with auto repairs because never once have I had a decent experience. I went to this auto shop because it was recommended by a knowledgeable person. I can't say I got the best deal but so far no more noises, no more vibrations and I'm okay with the price I paid. it was more than I anticipated but it was the best I could do. read more

Extremely disappointed:( I had called and made an appointment for my car and I was clear that it is losing large amounts of oil (NOT leaking on the ground) while driving, and that the oil light comes on after driving 20-30 mins. I waited a week for the first available appt. I received a call after the first day informing me that they could not find a problem. I reiterated the issue and they agreed to keep it another day. On the second day I received another call stating that they still couldn't find a problem but was charged $65 for "their time". The paperwork indicated that their "diagnostic" merely consisted of cleaning the undercarriage to check for leaks (despite my stating it is not leaking on the ground), and test driving it (clearly not for 20 mins). Sure enough, I took my son to school the following morning and the oil light came on at exactly 20 mins of driving and had lost a quart of oil. I called Scata's immediately (right before they opened) and left a clear message reporting the issue, waited the entire day and did not receive a call back. I called again at the end of the business day and instead of receiving an apology and telling me to bring it right back in, I was told I can bring it back in for another appointment in another 10 days!!! I did some research on my own, and it took a family member just a few minutes to take a look and locate 1 inch of oil pooled in the cylinder 4 spark plug and coil, and to determine that the cylinder compression is low. Why were these things not checked by Scata's????!!!!! Their $65 "diagnostic" was clearly subpar and a waste of $ and time as I have been unable to drive my car for weeks :( I thought that I had found a good auto repair shop with integrity and expertise, but apparently I was mistaken. read more

I've just had my oil changed on my car, and couldn't recall why I didn't like coming here. I left he lot and smelled an exhaust smell. Drove home, less than a mile away. Smelled it the whole way home and my car was feeling as if it was going to stall. Got home and came right back. The woman in front suddenly had a chip in her shoulder. The mechanic tried to tell me that the oil splashed back and the computer chip was picking up the oil. Huh??? Meanwhile, a man came in and his truck was fixed yesterday and feels it's not running right. The same woman got so defensive towards this man as he tried to say he's been coming for years and feels like he isn't welcome. She told him with attitude that wasn't the case. Had front brake pads and rotors changed, and had oil changed at same appointment. Lexus with 60k mileage- had oil drippings for first time after they changed oil and filter. Turns out the drain plug was not tightened properly. Brakes are fine, but very sloppy work regarding the oil chage. Would not return here for this reason. read more

I went there based on the long time customers reviews, all seemed great, appt was available soon for my Van with engine light on and misfiring. Took it Thrusday, they called me an Uber so I could go back to work, Nice! Joe was very pleasant....well waited for the call on the estimate, John Called me back at around 10:44, with the diagnostic, told me it would be $895 out of the door that he had to go behind the manifold, etc. for 3 coils, 6, spark plugs, and Manifold gasket... I told him I budgeted for like 500 to 600, that I didn't have the rest 335, he didn't say anything, I figure I have to get it fixed, and said let me see if my daughter can lend me the money... called back to go ahead and fix it...at 11:45, He called me back at 1:00 it was done, wow that was fast! 2 hours?...well I felt like I was just a number, and like take the deal, there are more customers waiting, I picked up the van that day and he was like no eye contact, sign here, there, I asked him about AAA discount he said, I gave it to you already, I look at invoice and don't see anything there, it is all generic, no parts brand, very plain and hidden charge, about "job supplies" $31 dollars. Labor $410.62 for 2 hours including $139.95 for diagnostic? Parts $402...Well car is fixed so I thought, leave the place, like thinking wow $897, that's a lot of money for 6 spark plugs, 3 coils and 1 manifold gasket, and not even an oil change!! I Do my research spart plugs, like $34, cables like $54, manifold gasket like $64....then I was told the $139 diagnostic fee should have been waived for me having them do the job there (state of CT rule) ..,Oh well fine, I am driving van, Friday night to my daughters house, and engine light comes up, I called them Saturday, and Joe tells me he can't accomodate, Saturday to take a look, to come Monday, I said yeah after 3:30 I will be there, well, a young tech, tells me are you going to leave it, I said no! Joe said they will run diagnostic test and see, well he was like I don't know why he told you that, my techs are leaving in 5 minutes, it is 4:25... He takes it in and comes back to tell me it is now a different code!!!! what!!!! they did a $139 test on Thrus and changed me 897, and now it is still having an issue that I will have to pay more!!!! no way! This review is for a full synthetic oil change (don't forget about the tax & oil waste fee when cashing out), which included an overall look at my car and its brakes, which they call a 49-point inspection, I believe. I arrived early, they got started right away. I worked with Dan, who was recommended to me by a life time family friend. Scata's, in general, has also served other folks in my family. The whole appointment took a max of 40-ish minutes from arrival to departure. I even brought my pup with me and they loved him! He gave me some advice on how to take the best care of my car, as it checked out completely healthy so far despite being 8 years old, and I left afterwards with a mission to get fuel injector fluid (available right next door at NAPA, I purchased the seafoam brand). After my fuel injector treatment and the full synthetic oil change, my car has never sounded more smooth and quiet! I'm able to increase speed much more quickly (handy when a**hole 18-wheelers casually cut you off in the merging lane on the highway). Dan was super nice and helpful, very friendly, and very fast! My total cost for a full synthetic came to about $85. read more

AVOID! Terrible service and hidden fees. My truck needed an oil change and I received a coupon in the mail for a $20 oil change. I figured I would try a local business instead of a national chain to help the little guy... big mistake in this case. I made an appointment for the oil change, when I arrived they had put me in for an oil change AND tire rotation. I did not ask for the tire rotation. I asked what the upcharge for the extra quart of oil would be as required for my vehicle and they told me $4. I waited 80 minutes for them to complete the service... 80 minutes for an oil change?! When I went to pay the total was over $30. I questioned the total and they explained that there was an additional $3 charge for waste disposal. I took exception to the bait and switch. They agreed to take the $3 off, but then proceeded to charge my card for the unreduced amount. Total scam artists! read more

Beware. I've used them a couple of times with varying levels of satisfaction, but, after my latest experience, I surely won't be returning. I had a stripped oil pan bolt, so I brought my car in to have it replaced and get the oil changed. I brought in my own oil filter (which I had bought since I was planning to change the oil myself before realizing the bolt was stripped), and they agreed to use it. After finding that they did a number of things that I didn't request or need (rotated tires, topped off all fluid levels, inspected brake system, etc), the simple job ran me $83. That was annoying, but I was willing to let it go. After getting my car back, I soon realized that it was leaking oil at a rapid pace. It is an older car and it has leaked in the past, so I monitored the level for a couple of weeks and added oil when necessary. After concluding that the oil leak was much worse than ever before, we checked the oil pan bolt and found that it was loose and a cheap nylon washer had been used. After removing the washer, adding some Loctite, and tightening the bolt, the leak appears to be fixed. They are either (1) sloppy, or (2) deceitful. On the repair order, they recommended that I replace my valve cover gasket due to an oil leak. I can only hope that they didn't leave the oil pan bolt loose so it would leak oil and I would be more likely to come in for the repair. Regardless of whether it was a conscious decision or not, I won't be returning. I'd suggest that you also steer clear. read more

A few years ago, I bought a set of four tires from them for my Dodge Grand Caravan. Then a few months later one of the tires was punctured when I was driving it, so I brought it back to them to see if the tire could get fixed. When the tire tech tried to take the tire off, he could not get one of the lugs to loosen, so he told me that one of the lugs had been put on too tight and he refused to take it off because he did not want to be responsible for the lug nut possibly breaking. I told him that they were the ones who had put all of the tires on my van back when I bought the tires from them, so they were responsible for over tightening it. However, he denied responsibility, telling me that they could not have done it. Really?? They could not have done it??? Outrageous!! That was all I needed to hear to decide that this was not the shop that I wanted to use or recommend. BUYER BEWARE! read more

Find someone else. I am a woman. I needed a routine spark plug change. Went in and dropped off my stock of $55 OEM BMW parts with the vehicle. They called me about two hours later and quoted me $65 more than my dealership (which would have been parts and labor included, so Scatas was actually $120 more). Told me the problem was because they had to take "off the whole top". This "whole top", is a "whole" two 10 mm bolts. Right.... I told them thanks, but no thanks. read more

My starter went out. Very easy access from under the car with a lift. I have performed this repair in the past WITHOUT the car being on a lift and easily completed it within 1 hour. First, I was charged money for a 'vehicle inspection' they performed which I did not request. They used the results of that inspection to tell me I needed other repairs which exceeded the value of the car! I told them to fix the starter and nothing else. The starter costs $118 at napa, which is where they bought it. My final cost? Over $400. If they don't know anything else, they know how to charge! read more

DISHONEST! My wife brought her car there to get the oil changed. After they changed the oil they told her she better leave the car overnight because it needed a new head gasket for $1,100.00. Instead, she called me. I took it to a different mechanic for a second opinion. There was nothing wrong with either head gasket. There were no coolant or oil leaks, it ran fine. It has been 4 years since then and the head gaskets are still fine. I resent that they tried to steal $1,100.00 from my wife. We will NEVER go there again. read more
