Wonderfully special place with a huge selection of teas and great, creative crepes. Good taste in music. Staff were super friendly and helpful. They have free hot tea of the day outside for grab and a bowl of fresh water for the neighborhood dogs. All makes you smile and warm in the heart. If you are looking for a simple place to work on your laptop for a few hours while drinking some rare tea, this place is really great. They have consistent wifi and an INSANE tea selection. The staff is super friendly and helpful (if you aren't a tea expert). We got several pots over the course of 3 hours. Lychee Peach White Tea: 5/5 so so good. Add honey. Coconut Creme White Tea: 5/5 also amazing! Add honey. All black teas are great, make sure to ask for extra hot water to resteep your tea. Better bang for your buck ;) My only complaint was that it gets SO SMOKEY in there! The smoke is coming from the crepe griddle, for sure. Several times I had to walk outside to get some fresh air because my eyes started to water. I think the ventilation in that shop needs some work. Or maybe the employees need to open the front door more often to air the place out? Take a deep breath of fresh air before walking in and enjoy some dope tea. Or get it to-go. Service: A bit slower than expected, since the recipes didn't seem too hard - but maybe they were! Waiter was nice and helpful though. It's SO good. I also normally get a dark coffee, always good too. I have had their teas in the past as well and they are great. I really enjoyed my lunch here! Before I could even get seated and choose a tea from the bagillion teas they had, I was already in love because of their music selection. Anyone who plays arcade fire Reflektor has good business sense in my eyes! Anyways, they had so many teas, something for everyone. And their crepe menu had plenty of choices, sweat or savory! Taking off my obsessive tea drunk state aspiring critic cap for the minute it takes to tap out a quick review, I will say that schastea is currently the best retail space in RI to get tea. Tea geeks, especially those who come from tea drinking cultures will find a way to nitpick, but there is no doubt in my mind that schastea is #1 for retail tea in pvd. In fact, it is probably the only place I've tried in RI where I'd even bother purchasing tea at all. The brown sugar crepe was perfect for our sugar lover and the banana muffin was wonderful. I wanted to really like this place. I used to live close by. The vibe is chill. We walked right in and sat down. No host. I've heard there can be a wait for service, but it wasn't too bad. The outside of the crepe was well seasoned but the cream cheese was on the outside of the crepe. I'd much prefer in inside. This made it difficult and messy to eat. Ok, ultimately, I love this place, but there are some glaring issues. First the good: the waitstaff are delightful, friendly, and interesting. Most of the food I've tried has been pretty good, especially the sweet crepes and the lentil soup. The hours are great - it's so nice to have a late-night cafe. And the spiked hot drinks (especially the orange brandy spiked hot chocolate) are phenomenal. They have good wi-fi, and are usually pretty chill, making it a great place to work or read for a while. However, the music is consistently terrible. It's some permanent playlist of new-age EDM, like if Enya were being played at a dance club, usually way too loud. I've asked a few times if they can turn it down, and sometimes they're able to, but it seems like it's the owner/manager who is in control of what's being played and the volume, not the staff, which is a shame because I bet their taste in music is rad. The decor feels like someone went clearance shopping at Pier One, and all the seating is too high for an average height person, not to mention someone on the shorter side like me. It feels especially disappointing because of the adorable back room, which is decorated in orientalist 'art.' It's a shame that rather than employing any of the amazing local Providence artists, they default to beige and appropriative. They're out of things on the menu as often as they aren't (see, chai, various liquors, teas, soy milk, etc.), which may be an artifact of having such a big menu without a full kitchen. The savory crepes are on the whole disappointing, especially for a vegan or vegetarian. Adding tofu to the menu would allow many more savory vegan crepe options (may I suggest Wildwood brand baked tofu, which basically only needs to be sliced). Adding oat milk as another non-dairy option would also improve their selection vastly. And sometimes the service is absurdly slow. It doesn't seem to have much to do with the waitstaff, so might have more to do with the kitchen? Hard to tell. Once I waited over 30 minutes for a hot chocolate, and there were only two other tables in the place. Ultimately, it's one of my favorites because I'm not into loud bars. But there's a lot of small things this place could do to improve. It's so close to being amazing, and god knows our city needs more chill non-bar late night options. Still, the tea selection is awesome, the sweet crepes are delicious, and spiked hot drinks will always be my favorite. read more

The servers were super friendly and helpful with the vast selection of teas and drinks (which was impressive) My curiosity got the best of me and I had to try a Dirty Tea, which is a tea and coffee combination. It was made with Roobios Chai. The presentation was more fun than the drink but I'm glad I tried it. The Guava and Cheese crepe was a yummy change from what I usually order at a creperie. Both the tea and crepes at this cafe were amazing. My girlfriend and I each had a black tea late which came as a whole pot of black tea with an entire side of foamed milk. I got the brown sugar crepe which was buttery and delicious, and my girl got a savory crepe with brie which she also liked. My only critique was it seemed understaffed as the 2 workers were running around the entire time, making it hard for them to be timely. I suspect this was due to the new year holiday. read more

Seriously, their menu is huge, featuring dozens each of white, green, black and herbal teas at various levels of exoticness. Things like lychee green, pu'er, lemongrass, and mango black. My friends and I ordered a a pot each and I got the Chrysanthemum (a bit like chamomile). A generous pot is about $4. My friends really loved their smoked salmon. I ordered the brow, which was okay because the tamarind sauce it comes with was wayyyy too sweet. Generous portions for $8-12. I stopped by when I had a little time to kill. A restaurant a few doors down was completely jam packed, so I figured it was a good time to check out Schastea and their crepes. Firstly, I love the location, because it's on a beautiful street with tons of old, gorgeous homes and mansions. I'm a sucker for old architecture, and this place has a great view of it. The interior was very clean and open. Not a lot of clutter, so it definitely gave the place a more spacious feel despite the actual size of the tea room. I was greeted promptly by a very friendly staff. I wasn't sure what to expect, and I wanted to take it all in, so I was pleased when they weren't hovering and making me feel rushed. I'm sure they get a lot of people in there who feel the same way. They obviously have a huge selection of teas, but their menu is very organized and helps you narrow down your selections based off of taste. They also have a large selection of crepes, both dessert crepes and savory treats. The crepe I decided on had green apples, goat cheese, and was absolutely delicious, and had great portion size, too. We forgot they had additional seating in the cozy rooms. That will be for next time. The place is very clean. If you love tea they will have something for you. They have over 50 teas and they have great descriptions of where they are from and what is in them. They have fresh pastries and many things are local that they use. They have a great menu of crepes and other sandwiches. We had the Ham and Swiss crepe with seasonal greens and Chicken Shawarma Nan Panini. Both were fantastic. The whole process of steeping the tea and the cute little honey canister, and the candied ginger, was delightful. I tried the Mediterraneo crepe as well which was delicious.
