I'm not sure what was going on here today. I've never had an outstanding experience here but it's always been fine. I came in this morning for a coffee and was going to get food. The line was long and moving slow. I heard the workers mention they were going to close the kitchen early today. I decided to not get food and just get a pastry since the wait was so long. The pastry case has no signs. When it was my turn to order I asked what kind of frosting is on the cinnamon roll the worker seemed bothered and said "it should be some kind of cream cheese frosting." Should be? Okay. So I said okay what are the pastries above the cinnamon rolls. And he rudely says "scones" okay yes, I know what scones look like but I also see a muffin. They had a large variety of specialty drinks on their menu, but be forewarned - We were told by the barista that they do not have any decaf coffee at all in either hot or iced. This was pretty disappointing as most cafes are able to make a decaf Americano and pour it over ice, and decaf is listed on the online order form on the Small Point website. Service was just ok - I feel like Small Point caters to a particular crowd and maybe I just don't fit that demographic. We did get a brioche donut with blueberry frosting what was very good, and my daughter really likes visiting Small Point for the Taro Lavender. So many cafes in downcity - I will probably go elsewhere next time. read more

I was very excited and then disappointed by Small Point. It's a cute cafe - half industrial looking (exposed pipes, worn brick walls) and half vintage cozy (teal velvet and maroon leather seats, Persian looking rug, lots of plants). I ordered the breakfast sandwich with lox and avocado on an extra toasted English muffin. It came out looking like one of those frozen school cafeteria breakfast sandwiches. I don't even think they attempted to toast the bread. I asked them to just give me a toasted English muffin, but the employee insisted they would make another one. My dirty chai was, as the kids say, "mid" (mediocre) at best. But, the worst part was the fact that it was tepid. I did not ask them to remake it because I felt like I had already made a fuss. At 40 minutes after I'd originally ordered, I went to the counter to ask for a refund because I still didn't have my food. That's when the chef (super sweet guy) came to tell me he was bringing it out to me in a minute. It was much better, but still not great. My total came to about $25 with tip. I came here really wanting to love this place, but left feeling like I wasted my time and money. read more

I was looking for a good place for breakfast after we checked out of the Graduate Hotel, and the Small Point Café was close and well rated, so we went there. This a short walk from the Graduate, and worth the trip. You enter from the double door - no sign on the door, and go left at the end of the hallway, and you are in. The menu is posted on the wall - we both ordered the Lox and Bagel with tomatoes, capers and cucumbers which was unique. I think it would have been better without the cucumbers personally, but I tried it just in case it was something special. It was okay, but like I said, the cucumbers kind of caused the capers to be lost. Service was prompt. It took around 3 minutes for my wife's coffee and 5 minutes for the sandwiches to make it out. The coffee and sandwiches were nice and fresh. Look behind the register and towards the top of the partition wall to see some Star Wars memorabilia. I hate to say this... but we really didn't care for this place. We had found it on a youtube video as a "must stop" when visiting Providence and it was just mediocre. The staff working were NOT friendly. I don't know if it was a bad day or what but they looked like they were miserable. It also took awhile to get our food- it was a Tuesday around 1pm so it wasnt SUPER busy. We unfortunately took a seat within the line of vision of the bathroom and a line would form- there was literally ONE bathroom for everyone it seemed. A homeless man even went in there and took his time because the line got quite long. I got a bacon egg and cheese bagel, it was fine. And my husband got some sandwich on a ciabatta bread. While it was fine, that's all it was. I also got an iced coffee which was also okay... but overall I wouldn't suggest someone go out of their way to stop here. read more

I stopped by Small Point Café earlier today around lunchtime. This is such a cute and cozy cafe. Inside there are comfy seats and regular tables. People were sitting with their laptops and working or hanging out. There was just 1 person ahead of me to order. The menu consists of food and drinks. There are also croissants, quiches, and other pastries on display. I ordered a large honey lavender latte to go. The honey lavender latte has espresso, steamed milk, house lavender syrup, and honey. It tasted really good, none of the components were overpowering. After ordering, you're given a number and you just wait for the number to be called. I came in for a bagel, was warmly greeted and received it promptly. Delicious. High quality, great value. The vibe is chill with music in the background and plenty of tables and comfy chairs to relax, work, or scroll. There are plants and soothing colors. What's not to like? Wish this kind of place could exist in my home area but the same meal would cost $20 and be delivered in a sterile, monotone-infused environment. A nice cozy cafe to study, hang out, or chill. Very nice atmosphere. There's a board game shelf with popular board games like forbidden island, connect 4, rummikub, etc... The space is inclusive, with an all gender bathroom. There's also a poster wall where the community can share events or flyers in general. Got a tahini brownie, which was a little too sweet. However, it's better than the default Starbucks brownie. The brownie had a good balance of crispy, cake-like, and fudge texture. Didn't really taste the tahini "nutty" flavor as the chocolate was overwhelming. Overall good but not spectacular. 6/10 Recommend coming here to study or just chill! read more

First off I'm sorry this review was a couple of days late. I have not been well. but I went down there to do the Rhode Island Food fight iced coffee passport. Because you pay one price for a coffee passport you should I think tip or buy something else as well in the restaurant so I went in and got waited on right away which was nice but the young girl was selling me a croissant a lemon meringue croissant when she rang it up. It was eight dollars plus tax. I asked her if that was the price of croissants and she said yes I said in that case I'm very sorry I don't have enough. I had only brought in a five dollar bill so I could cash it maybe get a cookie or something and then also leave a tip. So she's like oh she said we have custom bakers and they charge a little bit more for their items and so that's why it's more expensive so that's fine. I just don't have it Today so she took it out of the bag put it back in the counter Gave me my slip with my number on my coffee I stepped back. It was a bit noisy in there however she thought it was OK to take in. Tell two other employees that were there that I put it back as I complained because of the fact that it was so expensive and I probably shouldn't of ordered if I didn't know if I could afford it or something like that. They happen to then look up and realized I was looking right at them while they were talking Because I can read lips. I knew everything they were saying. I don't think that was very nice if she wanted to say things that were insulting about Customer or inappropriate. She probably should've taken it behind the wall and discussed it with the other employees. I'm sorry that that's a little more money than I had intended to spend and that you weren't happy with it, but you know what you need to remember customers are always right. Maybe next time we should probably take and put your prices on your items so people know what they are before they make the mistake of ordering and embarrassing everyone. Customer service was not her fortitude and I'm sorry. Maybe she was not in the right spot at the right day. Maybe she was having a bad day. This place has always been a favorite of mine, but I've been so impressed lately that I'm writing my first yelp review! Today I went in for a rosemary brown sugar latte and was helped by three wonderful baristas (I got their names-- Anna, Mayuko, and Hales). Not only was the coffee delicious, but the personalized drawings on the cups made my day, and the service was excellent. They also have my favorite bagel I've had in Providence--their spinach bagel with chive cream cheese is mind-blowingly good. my first choice to visit when i'm downtown to work or study! the place is quaint and warm. it's dark but there's a big window so there's lots of natural lighting coming in. there's somehow always a seat whenever i come in and there are plenty of outlets for charging purposes. the seats are super comfy, perfect for a coffee date or a lengthy study sesh. the service is great. there's always a line because the place is busy and popular, so the service can get pretty slow. however there are seats available if you wanted to wait and sit down, or if you want to study with a cup of coffee or tea. they also offer sandwiches and pastries if you're ever hungry or craving anything. can't attest to the food yet but from the couple of visits i've gone on, the smell of the sandwiches always make me so hungry! the warm drinks are okay and they offer entire pots of tea if you're ever wanting to drink simple steeped teas. read more

Fantastic little independent cafe & coffee spot! We stopped in for coffee & breakfast sandwiches on a weekday morning around 9:00. The order process is counter service / take a number. Locally sourced / baked options including "real" bagels & whole grain bread. Coffee was prepped quickly, and plenty of seating was available. They even have a chalkboard wall in the booth seating area with multi-colored chalk at each table. Food was prepped quickly, and was 100% delish. Order pickup was somewhat confusing because there wasn't really any signage, but now that we know the process that's a non-issue. Small Point is such a Providence gem. If you can find parking, this place is a treat. I often go here on telework Fridays if I don't want to go into the office. If you get one thing here, get their quiches. They are doughy, cheesy, and spectacular. Their coffee is good. The seating is limited but appears to be a work friendly environment.
