My friend and I just visited the Schatzi's Bakery & Cafe Simi Valley location today. The store front is fresh, colorful and inviting with outdoor seating with tables, chairs, umbrellas and a porch swing all providing cushioned seating. It is filled with lovely flowers and plants. As we stepped into the cafe we were greeted with smiles from staff as they went about their tasks. The cafe seating area is bright and pristine. The service was seamless. We tried the Banana Pudding with Biscoff and Original Banana Pudding with Wafers as well Americana Coffee and Iced Mocha Latte. All were great. Only had one high chair, not stroller friendly. Food & service is both acceptable and average. Update : there are stairs within the restaurant that make it non stroller friendly. (Only 2 but it still makes it a bit difficult) It's doable- but lots of moms make these decisions based on these types of details. Another patron helped us with the stairs on the way down. I said service and food was fine; both average. Nothing above nothing below. Totally fine. We asked for two high chairs and were told there was only one. I said ok we have two babies, & that was the whole conversation. it was fine we managed. If the owner has a toddler I would assume she's been to coffee with a friend and appreciated the cafe having more than one seating option for the babies. No one said anything about borrowing from Bacari. read more

Sorta split down the middle on this spot. I want to really love it because it's so conveniently located for me. I'll start with the pros- Aside from location, the ambiance is really great. Inside is fun and bright, but the exterior courtyard is really the star of the show. It feels like an oasis off Ventura. You're surrounded by greenery and it makes for a lovely start to your day. The pastries are also fantastic! Every single one i've tried has been a hit, my favorite being the Spinach Tart, but the sweet pastries/cookies/donuts i've tried have all been outstanding. Now for the reasons i'm torn- My main issue is the quality of the beverages. I've so far tried two of the specialty lattes, an americano, and a matcha latte, all iced. Every single one has been thin and leans watery in flavor (aside from the americano, obviously that being mostly water i can expect a thinner consistency). For the price of the beverages the quality is a rough justification for me. The service has been hit or miss as well- I think for all of my multiple visits i can clearly remember just one positive interaction. Others weren't necessarily poor- when it's busy i give a lot of leeway for service, and on a couple of these occasions it was clear to me that the guest before me was being difficult so i couldn't blame them for wanting to keep things moving. However, on my very first visit I asked the gal at the counter the significance of the pink table and chairs with the old food on it (assuming there's a cute story about the owners or something) and she didn't say a word, just shrugged and waited for my order. The first time I brought my boyfriend i mentioned to him how much better the Spinach Tart would be if it were warmed up, and the second time I took him there was a guy behind the counter who I hadn't seen before (possibly one of the two owners?) and he offered for it to be warmed which I didn't know was an option because the four prior visits i wasn't asked. So overall i'm going to try the spot a few more times through the summer and see if i can get a few more positive service interactions, or if the beverage quality might improve a bit. Honestly I think i'd just one or the other were to get a bit better in my opinion this place could be a weekly stop for me. I'm hoping that my previous visits were outliers! read more

Came here for a quick bite, coffee, and tea. My friend had coffee and I had tea, and we shared a cute little pastry that was actually really good. Everything came out quickly, which I appreciated. The place itself is super cute, I really liked the aesthetics. It looks like they have a great breakfast menu, so I'd definitely want to come back and try more. Such a cute little bakery tucked behind a few shops and a Bacari on the corner of Ventura and Hazeltine in Sherman Oaks. I drive past their sign every morning and finally stopped in after seeing on social that they were launching a Mix & Match Banana Pudding Bar with tons of toppings and sauces. The BYO option lets you choose two scoops (traditional banana pudding, chocolate banana pudding, or their monthly special) plus two toppings/sauces from a pretty solid variety or you can go with one of their pre-selected combos. They're not just about pudding either as it is a full coffee shop, which makes it a great little hangout spot. I ordered the Cookie Dough style Banana Pudding and it was really tasty. Definitely a fun and different treat. My only hesitation is the price as $11 feels a bit steep. I would probably come more often if it were in the $6-$8 range. The space itself is cozy with both indoor and outdoor seating. For parking, I recommend parking in the residential area behind for free street parking. They share a small lot that can get cramped and at certain times it's valet-only. Overall, a fun spot to check out if you're in the area and craving something sweet and a little different. read more

Very cute bakery with so many variations of banana pudding. If you love banana pudding and love to see non traditional takes on your favorite foods, I would highly recommend this place! I got a lot of help from the owner, who was very kind and helpful on what banana puddings to try. I love when the owner is present and involved with the business, it shows a real passion for the food they're selling. My favorite was the peanut butter banana pudding. I wish the pistachio strawberry match pudding had a little more matcha to it but it was still so good. I also really loved the strawberry shortcake banana pudding, tasted just like strawberry shortcake. I've never seen these flavors available for banana pudding before, I was absolutely amazed! I came by this cafe while driving by the area and decided to have breakfast w/ my dad here. This is a new(ish) cafe to the area with both indoor and outdoor seating. They have cute merch, a lot of sweet drinks and pastries with a few savory options. Our barista was incredibly sweet. Lavender matcha latte 2/5, ok so this was just an incredibly sweet iced lavender drink, don't think there is much matcha in this but if there is the ratio of syrup : matcha : milk is definitely off Cherry danish 4.5/5, this was good! definitely also very sweet but I expected that from a pastry and I liked the jam Overall, the place is cute aesthetically but I think this would be better enjoyed by families with young kids given the sweetness of what we tried. Such a cute place omg!!! It's a little hidden but the huge pink sign up front helps a lot. I loved the banana pudding I got with my friend (I believe it was the Oreo one and my friend did a build your own). It was super delicious but too much to eat in one sitting. They have special drinks along with other things you can order like a combo sandwich, drink and cookie. The outside is pretty as well. The employees are super nice and helpful too I love this place! Super cute spot hidden in a little alleyway right on the side of Bacari in Sherman Oaks. Happened to be driving by and saw a sign saying best Banana Pudding and that caught my attention and made me stop. I start walking down the path thinking what am I walking into, and all of a sudden there's cute cafe tables setup in the courtyard area, then you walk into the shop and it turns into a completely different vibe but still adorable. I got a combo Egg and Avocado Croissant, Iced Mint Tea, and Banana Pudding. The sandwich was pretty good (not amazing, but satisfying). Unfortunately I wanted to love the pudding but was a bit disappointed. There was too much soggy wafer in it with no fresh crunchy ones. Taste was okay, but certainly far from the best I've ever had. The traditional banana pudding is PHENOMINAL, I am now officially obsessed with this place. I haven't had banana pudding that good since I was in Texas. The croissant is fresh, delicious and flakey so I can tell they have a great bakery. The avocado egg sandwich was delicious, veggie-ful, and not too heavy. The frozen cafe mocha was also to die for, it was like a decadent frozen hot chocolate. I do not recommend the matcha though, as someone who likes a stronger matcha latte, their iced banana matcha latte was mostly a tall glass of milk with a hint of matcha and some banana syrup. We had reservation at Bacari Sherman Oaks in 30 minutes and I needed caffeine. This place was next door. It is a hidden jewel, a garden of paradise with patio seating as well as indoor. Inside u can see they love Disney just like my honey. Customer service was just amazing. They are so happy and helpful. They have German pastries, the apricot croissant looked so delicious but going to eat soon. My sugar was going up just devouring this stuff with my eyes. Honey Cinnamon Late So good, perfect foam. Loved the pink bright color and the bins of assorted candy. Our barista was very sweet. My iced brown sugar latte had too much milk which she tried to fix but it was a losing battle. My neighborhood pastry and coffee shop. I often forget they sell coffee because we usually go in for the mouth-watering pastries and other fun things. Their pasties are incredibly fresh, made each day. German-owned, I believe, you can taste the difference in their pasties, everything is so yummy but not overly sweet in the way typical highly-processed American baked goods are. There are small inconsistencies in each pastry showing the true homegrown-daily fresh practices they employ and I love it! My whole group is now addicted, we especially favor the cherry danish. We haven't had a bad thing yet, just our favorites. Hidden in the small building complex near high-life and Bacari, this is a small-quaint, don't-want-to-miss spot that almost transports you to a small European village the second you enter its doors. There are small pop up signs placed on the sidewalk directing you to this shop otherwise, many would never know it existed. Once inside, WOW! it is very colorful, nice, and inviting. If you are into coffee, pastries or candies, this is your place. The shop itself is small, cozy and offers limited indoor and outdoor seating and the staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. Several of their candies are imported but they also make their own as well as breads, cookies and an unbelievable banana pudding which has me hooked! When they say "best banana pudding in LA" they're not lying! This has pretty much replaced ice cream for my roommate and I. The monthly flavors are always really fun to try but you honestly can't go wrong with just classic. Besides that, this place is so cute and clean. The staff are very friendly and happy to help if you have questions about anything. We've ordered bread a few times from them and that's amazing too. It's also a great place to take people who have allergies or dietary restrictions because they have so many options between the coffees, teas, and pastries. When a coffee shop is cute, comfy AND has great coffee? It's the biggest win of all! I'm not a sweet coffee person, but I wanted to try the rose flavored latte. It was perfect. It wasn't too syrupy or sweet and the foam was soooo delicious and had the perfect consistency. They have a lot of diverse beverages on their menu that I am looking forward to trying. Customer service was very good as well. This is a total neighborhood spot and true hidden gem! They have a bunch of pastries, both sweet and savory, but I think depending on the time of day you go, they may have a smaller inventory. I picked up a heart shaped donut (cute!) for Valentine's Day. They even have a little candy bar where you can create your own goodie bag. I wanted to try the Dubai chocolate, but they only had these huge bars of it at the time ($35) and it would have been to much for just one person to try. This is a great spot for a coffee date, meeting, or weekend hang spot. They have plenty of outside seating too in the adorable little courtyard. I brought my laptop with me and found it to be a great space with good wifi to get some work done! I absolutely love it here. Despite the sometimes challenging parking situation, Schatzi's is a hidden gem off of Ventura Blvd. Set back behind other businesses, it's a nice quiet spot to meet a friend, do work, or just grab a cup of coffee. This place has been on my list for a few months and I finally has the opportunity to go. The service was helpful and friendly 5 star for sure! Unfortunately, when it came to the main event, the banana pudding, I had to adjust my overall rating. The dessert was so overly sweet and disappointing after the anticipation and hearing good things from other people. I tried a custom with two simple mix, strawberries syrup, and extra vanilla wafers, because I didn't want too many mixes and too much sweetness, but the underlined banana pudding was still super sweet and lacked any sort of interesting subtle flavors. I've had other high-end banana puddings at other establishments, such as the famous one at Magnolia Bakery, and definitely much better balanced, and had a fresh homemade taste. I and two other tasting companions felt similarly about the basic banana pudding without any mix ins and because the shop was about the banana pudding, and their banana pudding customization bar, I had to adjust my rating to three star for the overall experience. Also for the record I did purchase a cappuccino with an extra shot, which was perfectly adequate. I wish I could give them another star, but unfortunately, the main event was so disappointing that I can't, even though the sitting area and service were great. Perhaps if I had the simpler palate of a child, this experience would have been better. I think that maybe people love this place because of the addition of the way too sweet mix'in's but as for me, a banana pudding purist, I will pass. read more

Second time trying this little cafe. The staff is super friendly and they have plenty of seating. Unfortunately, we did not enjoy our coffees. Both were bitter and not quite right. We ordered the Maple Sea Salt Late and an Iced Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso. We also bought two pastries hoping they would be unique but they didn't look and taste just like the pastries sold at Jon's. Bought a pastry for $7 and the exact one can be found at Jon's for $3. Constantly see this place posted on social media so I decided to make the 25 mile drive from Simi Valley at 10am on a Sunday morning to pick up some pastries. I checked the order online link to see what was available. I did not order online though as I wanted to see if maybe they had additional options in the shop. DO NOT LOOK AT THE ORDER ONLINE LINK. You will be disappointed. My husband is German and was so excited when he saw they offered slices of apple cake that looked like his mom used to make and was eager to order that. So you can imagine our surprise when we arrived and were told that what's in the case was all they had available. I asked about the apple cake and they said they did not have it that they had it yesterday. Then I asked about apple strudel and again they said they didn't have it today. They had it yesterday. What kind of German bakery doesn't have apple strudel every day? It was frustrating because online as I sat there and ordered, they showed available to order online, but in person I was not able to get them. They had a sign up that said they had Berliner's every single day so I asked about those. They didn't have them either. Why not take the sign off the counter if you don't have them available? I asked what days are the best to come in that has the most variety in stock they said they don't really know it varies. It's pretty much hit or miss. We ended up with a gingerbread cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll was hollow inside and the middle was raw, but the flavor was good. The cherry Bavarian danish, which was the best thing that we had was nice and flaky and cooked perfectly. We had the banana pudding brownie which the pudding part was good, but the brownie portion was very dry. And finally. We tried the gingerbread banana pudding, which was just a huge miss. It was grainy and the flavors just didn't go well together. We also had coffee. The biscuit buttercream latte really didn't have any flavor. The iced sweet sleiigh brew was excellent, and I would come back for that. I wish I liked it more as the Design of the bakery, and Café is so cute and quaint. read more

I was a bit disappointed in the foam but I understand that not many baristas are able to create a good foam with almond milk.
