Got lucky with parking about only a block away and walked over. Very busy!! Love the high ceilings in here and it looks like it was connected to some kind of homeware shop? Didn't really look and was more focused on trying to figure out what to order lol!! They only have a small menu on the counter right when you order. Would be nice to have it on the wall to browse while waiting in the long line. The menu is very simple though so I ended up just getting an iced caramel latte and my bf got an iced matcha latte. I also got a toasted everything croissant which was absolutely fantastic!! Perfect jalapeno cream cheese in the middle. Delish!! The drinks took a bit but it was also very busy so I understand. I've been wanting to check out the Boy & The Bear for a while now, so because I was in the area, I decided to stop by for a coffee and croissant. It's a really cute little cafe, that shares a space with a furniture store. It's located in a great part of Sherman Oaks and it seemed like the place had many regulars. Upon entering I was greeted by both the barista and the cashier/barista. It was quite busy on a Friday at 10:30 am, but I managed to get seating outdoors. It was fully packed inside! I ordered an iced latte and managed to get their lack everything croissant. The girl who took my order was very sweet and friendly. She warmed up my croissant and it was ready in a few mins. Now, my coffee took over 20 minutes to be made. I saw the barista make orders that were placed after mine. Some seemed to be for his regulars, which was annoying and was not appreciated. I was also in a bit of a rush, but managed to just make it out in time for my appointment. Their menu is super simple & limited, nothing crazy like flavored lattes with clouds on top. Update: Came back in and had another Stockholm Fog, because it is absolutely fantastic! And I will never get enough of it. Also my husband had a Vanilla Latte that was perfection! Please do something about the dog urine smell by the planters outside next to the bench/seats. I'm a fan of their Culver City location which is where I reside and was looking forward to experience this location and enjoy their outdoor seating but unfortunately the experience was ruined by the strong smell of dog urine accumulated on and around the planter next to the outdoor seats. You can actually see the stained areas of where the urine has stayed on the floor and planter. Please pressure wash the area from time to time and put signs for dog owners to prevent their dogs from urinating near areas where people sit. Dog owners could do their part too. I love dogs and I may have a very sensitive sense of smell but it was so overwhelming to sit outside, I had to sit inside. Other than that, great coffee and nice staff. read more

Finally got the chance to get coffee here! I always pass by and because it's not really noticeable from outside I forget it exists. Theres no parking lot just street parking. I walked for a bit but good thing I don't mind walking. I went on a weekday morning and there was no line but the cafe was crowded. Pretty much every seat was taken. You can enter through the concept store and look to your left and you'll see the entrance to the cafe. I ordered an iced salted caramel latte with oatmilk. It was pretty good. Not too sweet and just the right amount of coffee. But I felt like the barista didn't fill up my cup. Like just a bit more and it would've been right. The pastries looked extremely inviting but I didn't get one since I usually don't only if I'm ready to treat myself but now I know their pastries look good so I'd get one here. The menu is only displayed at the register so that was a minus for us. We ordered the Nordic cold brew latte, a chocolate cookie, and the vanilla latte. The cold brew latte was very strong and needed more sweetener. The vanilla latte was delicious and creamy! The chocolate cookie was lay but we wish they didn't hear it up because by the time our drinks were ready the cookie was melty and super crumbly and messy. The pricing was average for a coffee shop. I'm speaking specifically for the matcha: At first sip, it was good because I was thirsty and I really wanted matcha somewhere. But then I realized how milk-y the drink itself was. I was recommended to get simple syrup (over vanilla and honey syrup) to make my drink a bit sweet but still taste the matcha. I personally BARELY tasted the matcha because the milk was just very overpowering and it just felt like matcha flavored milk (light green-white) rather than a solid (nice vivid green) matcha latte. I personally wouldn't get this again... There seemed to be no outlets when I looked at The Boy & The Bear. Wi-fi is limited to only 2 hours with purchase. They left the door open, so it felt a bit hot (compared to other cafes with A/C), especially on a day where there's a heat wave, I wished it was a bit cooler in the space). The price is the typical $7-8/drink (so expensive but typical in this economy). But at least, there's (free) parking behind the building (though it's a bit tight and limited). I usually come here on the weekends and it can get pretty busy during rush hours, but it mellows out. There is plenty of seating available so I wouldn't worry too much about finding a place to sit unless you come in a large group. I usually just order a cappuccino and sip on it while studying. I also tried an iced matcha which was pretty good. The drinks are good quality, not too sweet, and I love the simple presentation. The coffee shop is connected to an antique store which adds to the rustic aesthetic. Running errands up this way on a Sunday and found this beautiful coffee shop situated in an old antiques/furniture store. It looked cool in there so I can't wait to get back to explore. The vibes are weird but the coffee is alright. I don't know it's not that cozy cause it's connected to an overpriced furniture area and the chair I said in wasn't comfortable. That kinda throws it off for me but you might like that if you aren't me. The staff were fine. The pastry was so dry I couldn't finish it. I do like the tall ceiling. It's located in an antique furniture warehouse (?) not sure what to call it but it had 2 floors with everything from candles to rugs to dressers -- I wish I had more time to explore but I just stopped by for a couple hours to work. When I moved from the South Bay to Sherman Oaks i was so pleasantly surprised to see The Boy & The Bear. Their coffee is always hot, delicious and made to order. I love the beans they roast. Lots of seating for the quick sit and snack or longer come and use the wifi kind of vibe which the barista was quick to ask. They bring your drink to you if you're sitting in or if it's just not busy which is nice. There's water available and parking in the back for 90 minutes, maybe underground too which was surprising. Amazing beans with a variety of roasts. Getting unwashed natural beans can feel like rolling the die on coffee flavors, but the beans here were great. The batch I got was fruity and was a bit more pungent than washed beans (which is expected), but not overly powerful. It was a shame because I don't think the staff was fully educated on the types of beans the location offered. When I was asking questions, they weren't as knowledgeable as I wanted them to be and the in-store drinks were very limited in terms of bean selection. While to quality is up there, I think there's more this company can offer when it comes to advertisement and education. The location is very cute. They're inside an antique furniture store, and as such the space is very limited. PROS: - Still the same great cold brew they serve a tall locations. - Lots of table space - Staff are very friendly and nice. CONS: - Very few electrical outlets. - NO AC. It gets very warm and hot inside here, especially for being in THE VALLEY, although they do have a giant fan blowing for air circulation. - WIFI is limited to only 2 hours, compared to their other location in Mar Vista which isn't. - Hard seating only available, not very comfortable for long periods of remote working. - NO RESTROOMS available when the furniture store isn't open (I came on a sunday). - Parking in this neighborhood is terrible. Only metered parking on the streets and the neighborhood is packed. Overall - Not a great place if you wanna get some work done. More of a get-in-get-out type of coffee location. read more

A strong 5 for me! Coffee was strong and service was outstanding. After many months of wanting to stop by, I finally made my way over to this location on Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks. Initially, I was going to roll with their drip coffee but they were all out. Also, the barista told me that there is a 1pm cutoff on their drip coffee. Instead, I went with the barista's recommendation and opted for an Americano. Coffee was knockout strong and really flavorful. Chatted with the barista a bit about their coffee and tea options. Really great staff and operation at this location. Parking is a bit difficult but worth it. You have the option of parking on the street or in the structure just behind the shop. Last year, multiple mornings a week, I would stop in with one mission: to get the guava croissant. If you know, you know. Buttery, flaky, slightly sweet, and with that perfect hit of guava inside. Unfortunately, the guava croissant is no more.,,, I won't lie, it felt like a small personal tragedy when they switched bakery's. It is a peaceful open space with high ceilings and plenty of seating. Baristas are friendly, and there are 2-person tables inside and outside on the sidewalk. I was there early, around 8:15am, so I had no problem getting a table, but they were all taken when I left at 9:30am. My cappuccino was delicious. Also ordered coffee and croissants to-go for co-workers at the office. They said the coffee was strong, and the almond croissants were yum.
