Excellent. I was with my friends have been wanting to go here for 3 years. So the other day we were over at the Mütter and needed to eat. I guess all those embalmed baby pigs left me wanting a fat turkey sandwich. We went over here and like I said I got a turkey with Swiss. Lettuce, tomato and light mayo. All on rye with two pickles and a side of macaroni salad. Absolutely delicious. Large sandwiches. We are half there and then ate the other half a few hours later in Rittenhouse Park while watching performers. Fantastic warm Saturday afternoon. read more

I've been once before and remembered it being great, so I decided to come back! We were greeted and told to sit whenever we'd like, brought menus, and our server promptly came to greet us. Service was great, very quick and accommodating. Our waitress was very pleasant. I do remember the sandwiches being stacked a bit higher with meat, but you can't deny that the flavors are there. The corned beef was delicious, and my sister got a reuben that she really enjoyed! It was freezing outside so the 1/2 sandwich and soup was the way to go. It was a little bland for my taste which could be personal preference. Pickles were so good, I ended up getting some to go. I definetly wish they still had the pickle bar!! Nice authentic little Jewish deli in center city. One of the last of its kind. Had the corned beef and a black and white cookie.

Came here last year because it was so good. This time is was fine but the meat on the sandwiches were a little skimpy. Brought it to the attention of the server who was very nice. Got it fixed by bringing out a whole new sandwich for my husband. We had the corned beet, pastrami, and tuna melt sandwiches along with the matzo ball soup. Very tasty. read more

I walked past Schlesinger's so many times when I'm in Philly, so I thought I'd give it a try. Let me start by saying it was a perfectly fine lunch, I ate everything, and I'm full. But my overall impression is bland. I had a corned beef wrap with cole slaw and ranch dressing. Probably the highlight of my lunch, but it was a little dry, I think they forgot the dressing. Potato salad, again bland. And my preference is for egg and mustard. This was close to cold mashed potatoes. The pickle was the surprising disappointment for a deli, if it was dill it was super subtle. So bland a cucumber would have been better. This was my first time back in a very long time. My dad and I stopped by before seeing a show at the Kimmel. It was very empty, so service was fast. Very clean and spacious inside. I ordered the cabbage soup and the Doris Reuben sandwich. I chose fruit as my side. If you want fries, it's a $1 extra and latkes were additional $2. The sandwich was hefty, juicy, filling and absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, since covid they removed the pickle bar. So we only got one pickle included in the meal. The cabbage soup was interesting and not something I'd reorder. I was picturing a clear cabbage soup, but instead it was a very sweet tomato based soup. I'm not entirely sure what the broth was but it reminded me of the sauce from baked beans with tomatoes. Way too sweet that I couldn't finish. What's with the bad reviews? The food here is great! I came in on a Friday morning to pick up some lunch and the service was perfectly friendly and quick, no issues at all. I ordered two reubens, one with pastrami and one with turkey, and the matzo ball soup. The reubens were super tasty and came with a side each, for which I chose coleslaw and potato salad. The coleslaw was delicious! And the matzo ball soup was soul-warming and loaded with juicy chicken pieces. I found a couple of small bones in it, too, but more flavor, I guess! The service here is okay. The food is mediocre at best. I've been twice and was left completely unimpressed each time. This last time I ordered "The Betty" with fries. This sandwich is a turkey with coleslaw and Russian dressing. There was barely any coleslaw on it at all and very little Russian dressing. The turkey was shaved turkey rather than sliced. It was dry dry dry. The fries were cold. The pickle with the sandwich was basically a small cucumber. It wasnt a pickle. If it hadn't take like 20-25 minutes to get the food in the first place I would have asked to have it remade with more coleslaw and dressing. Then, when we attempted to pay to leave we tried to use the QR code to pay. We split the check three ways. The online payment service was a mess. In an attempt to make sure we had paid appropriately I went to the cashier. For some reason it showed us owing $15.00 after we had paid in full. Because I just wanted to leave and never go back I paid the $15. I ended up paying $$45 for a sandwich and a coke. I can't suggest this place to anyone. read more

First off, let me start with the good. Customer service was impeccable. However, the Reuben I got was bland and tasteless. It had very little sauerkraut, Russian dressing and Swiss cheese. I was so disappointed because I was really looking forward to eating it. With the price of the sandwich being $20, it should've been excellent. Hopefully it was just an off day. Larry was needin' some fuel to start the day here in beautiful Philadelphia and this place smelled great so in the Larry strode with great Expectations. The place was a real deli. With a counter, refrigerated cases, keugel and the rest. Holy Crap. So, Larry tried everything and it was all good to great. Stopped in at Schlesinger's for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Place was clean and bright, and a booth was readily available. They have a pretty extensive menu. It was hard to decide what to get, as it all sounded so good. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich, which had a lot of flavor and served on some good rye bread. Side of potato salad was very eggy and tasty. Husband had the corned beef sandwich and I was glad he let me take a big bite of it because it was flavorful and delicious! I did feel the service was pretty unfriendly, though. Efficient for sure, but the few folks working there seemed like there were a thousand other places they'd rather be. Maybe it was just an off day. We'd probably come back here. They have a pretty decent deli counter with assorted fish, meats, and good-looking desserts. read more

The staff recommended Schlesinger's and after walking in, I knew I was in a great spot. The staff has been there forever---first good clue. So funny story here, I recently visited one of my very dear friends in Philadelphia. We decided to take her dog out for a walk and pick up some lunch and bring it back to her beautiful townhouse. We were walking by Schlesinger's and they had one of those ginormous menus in the window with every sandwich known to man. We realize we could not take her dog in and so we decided I would go in and get a Rueben to split. She asked me if I could read the menu and me thinking my distance vision is still good said of course. I said we'll get this Rueben and I walked inside very confidently. There was a darling girl behind the counter and I said to her we would like one of your skanky Rueben's. She took out a laminated version of the ginormous menu that was outside and laid it on the counter. She said would you like to show me which Rueben you're talking about. I looked down and it was actually the Stanley Rueben , a far cry from a skanky Rueben. She laughed and then I left and I said I'm so sorry I did not have my reading glasses with me. So funny yet so embarrassing all at the same moment. However absolutely one of the best Reuben sandwiches I've ever had in my entire life. I highly recommend this place and run and get a great lunch there this weekend. read more
