Stopped in on a drive back from the Dallas area a couple of weeks ago. I haven't had a Schlotzsky's original sandwich in years. I remember going to one of their first places near the university of Texas in the end of the 70s. I'm glad I stopped in. Place was empty but for one other customer at about three in the afternoon. Nice fellow took my order. Prompt delivery of a medium size original sandwich. The bread is a real treat as are the variety of meats and I had it with onions and tomatoes and pretty much everything. Very filling. Brings back nice memories and I'm glad that I got the original and not any of the other choices. read more

So it has been a minute since I have checked out Schlotzskys and I feel like they have upgraded. I got a veggie pizza and was super impressed.They had lots of veggies, it was a decent sized pizza and for a decent price, my kid got a meat lovers pizza and it was stacked and my husband got a sandwich and it is always a go to. I will definitely come back again and enjoy a pizza. read more

August 3, 2025: Stopped here for a bite during our Sunday afternoon drive. Schlotzsky's has always been a favorite of mine (founded in Austin, TX). Crowded, super crowded full up seemed like a lot of people had the same idea. The line moved quickly, the order taker (Saul) knew the menu and asked all the relevant questions ... pickle, may, lettuce or no kind of things. Got our drinks, found little table for 2, too hot (Texas weather) to eat outside. After a bit our food is brought to us. Eating, it's good ... but there's no avocado on my medium sized Avocado-Turkey sandwich. I keep on going, taking the top of the bun off as it's just too much bread (i never thought I'd ever say/write this, carb lover that I am). Place is starting to clear out, staff is coming along and clearing tables, putting original table layout back to normal setting. We complete our meal, throw out the trash (the bin is overflowing) and I must take a trip to the bathroom. Upon coming back to the front there's my husband ordering a Cinnabon roll to go (his sweet tooth continues to grow larger and communicate its need increasingly over the past couple of years). All is well, we make our way home. read more

When walking into this location, the outside smelled like urine. I went to the bathroom first, where I smelled more urine smell. Not sure what's going on here, but the whole restaurant kind of smelled of urine. Like they mop with it. We could not eat in the restaurant because my whole family agreed it was bad. We should have left at that point, but ordered food anyway. The food was average for Schlotzsky's but the urine smell pretty much ruined the whole trip. read more

We were warned by the cashier the wait would be longer than normal due to short staff. We sat for 47 minutes waiting for our order. The staff are friendly enough and the food was good. Beware in today's world, no one wants to work and we the customers suffer. Total bill for two originals, chips, and a drink, $18.29. That's with a military discount. That Schlotzsky's Original is one great sandwich! And this location has been a regular tradition for me on road trips down interstate 35, demonstrating the best of Schlotzsky's quality, atmosphere, and service. Between Dallas and Waco, Austin, or any other destination along I35 are two mandatory stops: Common Grounds for coffee, and the Hillsboro Schlotzsky's for lunch. (Note I did NOT say Buc-ees cuz dear god ppl). I have brought groups of students here, made family visits, and stopped on road trips with my girl. Every time, the store is clean, the food fresh, and I believe I've seen three remodels over those years. The dining room has large windows on one wall, providing a wash of light that lends a cheerful air to the room. The location near my home always seems "not quite clean" and "not quite organized". This location sparkles like a flagship store. Long Texas highways offer little more in eatery options than the most mainstream fast food and the occasional local barbecue or Tex Mex place. If you're road trippin' and want to break away from Subway and Dairy Queen for some of that toasty, cheesy, Sourdough muffalleta goodness that only Schotszky's delivers, I highly recommend this location! read more

We stop at this establishment regularly on road trips just to be met with completely rude and utter disgusting service from the boy at the cashier. Who was wearing his pride tags and piercings and " I don't need to be saved badge." And obviously was not happy to serve us after seeing my mother-in-law's Trump T-shirt. His demeanor completely changed as he would not look at anyone in the eyes, and the life was clearly gone from his body with his emotions. So then we sat down to eat, wondering the entire time if we were going to contract food poisoning from the establishment. It's wild to me that this is a reflection of this establishment. As christians were maintained a completely professional composure, thinking the boy several times and was met with silence. I don't recommend stopping at the dump of a shack. read more

FOOD POISONING I visit Schlotsky's locations regularly and during our road trip to a funeral we stopped at this location. There were no other vehicles in the drive thru and there weren't many other customers inside. We waited for nearly 20 mins in the drive thru and finally were given our sandwiches. We decided to park in front of the store to eat before getting back in the road. I then noticed that my sandwich wasn't hot, barely warm at best. The bun was dry as if it had been sitting for a while under the heat lamps. Taste was fine, not the best, but fine. This was a quick stop so I wasn't expecting too much, right? Well... A few hours later I became violently ill with obvious food poisoning symptoms. I'm fairly certain, considering the employees were taking time to converse instead of out our order together, that I was served a sandwich that was made many hours prior which led to me becoming ill. It was a Fiesta Chicken sandwich. I will NEVER eat at this location ever again. I don't expect five star service at a fast food restaurant, but I do expect standard food safety practices and that the staff takes those seriously because I have now been powering through food poisoning symptoms for two days because of this. It's unacceptable and I wouldn't recommend anyone else take the risk unless you want to be, again, VIOLENTLY ILL for several days. Go elsewhere. read more

Ive never been disappointed in this Schlotzsky's of hillsboro. I enjoy going inside when I have time and chit chat with the gentleman whose been working there for years, but for some reason I don't know his name, maybe because I call him TJ in my mind, sInce he has similarities to my brother. Anyway, the personal pizzas have great taste to the bottom of bread and the California flatbread has nice dressing with a bit of avocado and chicken. Don't know what's up with all the bad reviews. I'm not sure at which 3 star Michelin rated restaurants they are eating. This a fast food sandwich joint right off the highway in a town whose economy rests solely on the fact that people stop there while they're road tripping on 35. I was hungry and tired. I got a room at the Holiday Inn Express. I wanted a sandwich. Schlotzsky's was right there. The person who took my order was great. The order was right and the food was tasty and filling. Worst experience at a Schlotzskys ever. Stood in line for over 15 minutes, even with people getting frustrated and leaving. Only one person taking orders and was having problems completing any order. No one ever acknowledged or apologized for the wait and slow service. Every order that did come out had problems. Wrong salad, cold soup, etc.. I had a lot of time to observe the food makers and there was a jumble of food all over the area and one older gentleman was annoyed and kept throwing things all over the place, some ended up on the ground. Trays kept dropping and clattering to the ground behind the counter. Everything would have been forgiven if a single employee had made eye contact and/or apologized for the wait. This is my absolute favorite Schlotzskys location. I always stop here during my trips to and from the Dallas area. Of course Schlotzskys has the best gluten-free bread of all chains, but my sammies always taste better from this one. The staff are always so kind here. This is an ok place to stop if you're in the area. The place looks decently clean, however it has a strange smell. The staff was decently friendly, however they arent very quick. They'll stand there and talk to you for quite a while and ask personal questions before you'll even get to order. The bathrooms arent the most amazing thing but its better than the gas station next door. The food is good. Typical Schlotzkys. They have gluten free bread if you have a gluten allergy. That was a pleasant surprise. I also really like that they have a listing of all nutrition facts and ingredients. That really helps for those of us with a food allergy. My family and I just ordered meals here. I asked my family and they said their food was all fine. I ordered a veggie sandwich and actually found a small spider crawling on the food inside of my wrapper. We ordered it in the restaurant and took it to our car to eat so it is possible the spider came from outside as I was walking to my car, but it was embedded in the lettuce in my wrapper. I usually do not like to eat out because I feel my standards are too high for taste and cleanliness. But I saw the spider in the wrapper as I was eating and I have been bothered by this. I ordered a sandwich and sauce for delivery to my local residence with tip successfully with the app. However, this location doesn't deliver. After approximately 1.5hours and a successful delivery notification without actual delivery, I reached out for resolution. Went to the drive through around 11:15 am on a Friday and ran into a few problems 1)took forever to get my food 2) when I got my food the box was covered in avocado on the outside 3) I ordered a pick two with a salad and didn't get a fork so I had to pull back around and go inside (what's the point of a drive through) 4) I'm not sure if it was the ranch or what but the Cobb salad with ranch has had a funky flavor to it for the last two times I've attempted to get it (never again) 5) good thing the salad tasted bad because I found a hair 2 bites in and threw it away Staff is very friendly. Can't go wrong with a #1 small original sandwich with no onions and extra olives! I have been craving Schlotzsky's for so long so I finally decided to stop in on my way home from Oklahoma. Sadly, as good as this sandwich is it didn't live up to my expectations, this time. Who isn't familiar with Schlotzsky's menu, bread, ingredients....there is really nothing new there. However, this review is for my homey's that have to make that N/S (or the S/N) commute on IH35 occasionally. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I have stopped here on many occasions, and have vowed NEVER AGAIN. I will drive to WACO to the next closest one instead of eating here. Reasons are; 1.) Not only do they not have the same menu items (whaa...no Chipoltle Chicken? Grant cannot make it w/out Chipoltle Chicken!!) 2.) The main issue here is that this store if not clean, and it appears as if they either don't care, or are too busy to care. This has happenned at this location a number of occasions and I am done. You are dead to me Schlotzsky's - DEAD I say!! Now you may not have a similar experience, so take your chances. As somebody who enjoys local food options and pushes friends to utilize Yelp, I do a very bad job of exploring great local options while traveling via freeways for work. I knew better than to eat here, and yet the siren call of a clean restroom and a quick pizza I could eat while driving was my doom. I crashed my ship upon the rocky shores of a BBQ pizza that was 73% BBQ sauce, 7% rubbery chicken, 10% cheese and 10% bread. I stopped at this location on my way to San Antonio for the weekend. When I arrive there is only one person working the counter and a few customers in the dining room. My order was taken almost immediately and I ordered a Angus pastrami Reuben and a Cinnabon with Pecans to go. I was informed it would be a few minutes as they had to make a fresh Cinnabon. Once I received my food I left and got into my car to head on my way I decided I would eat my Cinnabon first. I believe that it was made three days prior because there is no way that that cinnamon roll could've been made fresh & there wasn't a Peacan in sight. I ended up throwing out the cinnamon roll. My sandwich on the other hand was fresh and delicious and the perfect size for a lunch on the go. I would return to this location but I would not order any other baked goods in the future. read more

If you are at the counter and peek into the kitchen prep area....be prepared to see a very unclean cooking environment. The older skinny lady that cleans up the tables is rude as hell. She was cleaning my table and another customer politely asked "do you mind cleaning up this one as well, please?" and her response was "I can only clean so many at a time...the last people just left so give me time". She never says "you're welcome" when you say "thank you". No response at all. Rolls eyes at everything. Customer service and being in the front of the establishment, is not where she needs to be. Traveling through on a long Texas trip and took an exit in Hillsboro to grab dinner. We were worried we wouldn't find a good place open as it was already 9:40 pm. We parked at Schlotzsky's Deli and sat outside as we had our schnauzers with us. The gentleman behind the counter, Jonathan, was super nice and was very helpful.
