We came here on a rainy Saturday afternoon at 4:01pm, thinking who would be crazy enough to wait in line to get into a bar on a chilly Saturday afternoon. Clearly we were wrong, the line was a lot longer than we thought, this is east village after all. By 4:20pm, we were at the door, by 4:21pm, we were seated. The inside is a lot bigger than I thought. We did have to share a four seater table with another couple but oh well. The drinks we tried are bread and tomatoes, schmuck martini, blanka, larb gai, and le petit fizz. My favorite is by far the bread and tomatoes - maybe because I am a tomato lover, I found the drink's tomato flavor is perfect, not too overpowering but also profound enough for me to savor it after every sip. Blanka is my second favorite - gingery and celery, if you like that type of flavor profile. Larb gai has a combination of sweetness and spiciness, reminds me of a Thai dish. Le petit fizz, is fizzy, not super sweet, and I liked the passion fruit flavor a lot. My least favorite is actually the Schmuch martini, I found the vermouth too overpowering, even with the olive oil drops on top, I couldn't taste anything else but the vermouth. The final verdict - absolutely worth the wait and hype. And with almost all drinks around $19, they are very well priced compared to all of those $25-30 over priced cocktail places with mediocre drinks. Schmuck is my new favorite cocktail place and I will be back to try the rest of the menu. read more

Interesting cocktails with flavor combinations I have never had before, quick service with fun staff that keep you smiling all night, yummy bites, and music that keeps the night going. I'm such a sucker for familiar foods recreated into cocktails. My favorite was the Larb Gai. I grew up eating Larb and I was just impressed. I also really enjoyed the Blanca which was a green apple, celery, mustard, and ginger cocktail. For a dessert-like drink, I'd pick the Le Petit Fizz; a hazelnut praline and passionfruit Ramos gin fizz. We were out on stage and the table was so low compared to the seats. We ordered the bread with tomatoes (8/10 really did taste like tomatoes which was wild, le petit fizz (9/10 tasted like a dessert), fika (2/10 my friend sent it back it was a little strong/bitter), and blanka (7/10 definitely was a strong celery/mustard flavor)! There is not much for me to share. An outrageously well conducted bar program in all facets. From technique to customer experience, to hospitality this place got it right. Who would've thought balsamic and vanilla would jive so well. I loved the people. We got to Schmuck around 4pm on a Friday afternoon and there were probably already 20 people ahead of us in line. Luckily the line moves pretty fast so we were able to get in pretty quickly. The inside is actually bigger than expected. Bread and Tomato was a very flavorful, savory cocktail. It tasted like biting into a juicy piece of tomato toast, which I love. I heard about this award winning European bar so I went to check it out on a weekend night. -Coffee, pineapple, olive oil: This is what I want my espresso martinis to be like!! Coffee flavors were strong and the pineapple amplified the acidity from the coffee. It wasn't too sweet nor too alcohol forward. The olive oil coats gently coats your mouth and gives it a tad of balancing salinity. -Melon cheese and pepper: Mind blown because this combination actually worked really well together!! Definitely recommend trying this drink, especially if you like cheese foam on your tea/boba like me. The foam layer was creamy but still light, and it mixed well with the refreshing melon taste. The black pepper added extra depth and savoriness to the cream. -Le Banane: I wish I could describe how authentically banana tasting this clarified drink was, but you just gotta try it for yourself! Besides the fruit itself, it also included flavors from the peel, and was smooth, easy to drink, and not overly sweet. -Menthe: A better version of your mojitos because it's so refreshing and minty throughout. For snacks, the puff pastry pizza was tasty. The bread reminded me of a pita bread mixed with the chewy parts of a Chinese fried dough sticks (you tiao). Its covered in a herbacious, creamy pesto-like sauce, although the lemon juice made it a little too sour. The generous parm cheese served at tableside helped neutralize the tanginess nevertheless. A new, unique, up-and-coming cocktail bar that creatively spruces up traditional meal recipes and remixes them into refreshing drinks (think Double Chicken but in East Village). Schmuck opened it's doors recently and to no surprise based on it's atypical menu and well thought out location, has queues already going out the door. We came by on a Wednesday evening to an already fully packed bar; so much so that the bouncer had mentioned that we'd likely need to be put on waitlist for a table to open up. Luckily, there was one table for two unmanned alongside a fully packed platform bar seating area, alongside an array of seats for two and groups adorned along the sides. If you aren't able to get seated right away, the host allows you to put your name on waitlist while you explore the backroom bar, which has a slightly different menu and is more-so standing and seating rather than it's front house, which is seating only. Cocktails were sensational from the go. Larb Gai - essence of Mi Goreng, earthy, savoury, and a little sweet. Ranch Water - a whisper of Kraft Ranch from its infusion with tequila--refreshing, herbacious from the lettuce, and addicting. The bartender mentioned half hate it, the other half love it. I was stupefied on my first sip, as I've never tasted anything like it; it confused me, but wonderfully so, and it didn't get yucky as I took my time enjoying it. Melon Michelada N/A - finally! a non-alcoholic cocktail that isn't boring nor horrendously overpriced. Subtley sweet, melon forward but not overboard, and mixed with the saltiness of the Michelada was a just the most divine combination. They used a N/A IPA, which I didn't even notice. As I was curious about the bites, we had to order something small. We opted for the chocolate with sea salt and olive oil. To my amazement, it was actually a chocolate mousse topped with sea salt in a little silver chalice. A server came by to drizzle olive oil on it. I felt a good amount of skepticism going into my first spoonful but to my shock, the textures, taste, and aroma was fabulous. Everything meshed together wonderfully. It was actually my first time trying mousse, as that's not typically a dessert that draws me in, but am absolutely pleasantly surprised. The ambiance of the bar is swanky, filled with guests in their late 20s through 30s and gives a very hip yet elevated environment. The furniture and aesthetic decisions keeps the vibe a little on the humble side, in a way that their choice of wall art is unique yet not obviously trying to be, and the leather and velvet seating can lull you into that retro kind of coziness. Perhaps I favor Schmuck over your run of the mill hip bar because for me, the cocktails are drinkable, as the ones I tried were not heavy leaning on the spirits. Regardless, the diversity of the menu is sure to pique your curiosity in some ways. I can feel this place becoming a cornerstone of a stop along the night! read more

Violent Assault by Security Staff Our group of three visited this bar for drinks. One of our friends stepped outside for a smoke, and when he tried to return, the bouncer refused him entry, demanding he rejoin the line. Our friend decided to leave instead and attempted to wave at us through the open door to inform us. Misinterpreting this as an attempt to sneak back in--despite him never stepping inside--the bouncer violently tackled him to the ground, pinning him down and choking him. This resulted in our friend bleeding from his hand and suffering a mild concussion, requiring emergency medical attention. In the process, an innocent bystander was also knocked over. We immediately called the police, and after multiple witnesses confirmed the assault, the bouncer was arrested on the spot and is now facing prosecution by the district attorney. 2. Blatant Racial Discrimination by Management After the attack, we (all Asian) attempted to resolve the issue with the bar's manager and owner, requesting an apology from the bouncer. They outright refused, denying any wrongdoing. However, when a White woman--an unrelated bystander--offered to testify on our behalf, their attitude instantly changed. They repeatedly apologized and promised a fair resolution, asking us to wait outside. Once the woman left, they kept us waiting indefinitely. When I went back inside to follow up, they dismissed us, claiming they were "too busy with customers" and told us to return the next day. This clear racial bias and deceptive behavior are completely unacceptable. 3. Intimidation and Threats After the Incident After the police arrested the bouncer, the bar's owner began filming us with his phone. When we politely asked why, he responded in an aggressive and hostile manner, insisting it was his "right to record." This felt like a direct attempt to intimidate and threaten us, making us fear potential online harassment or further retaliation.
