It's not the same as before Covid19. New chef or quality control has gone out the window. What happened to your food?? It's different. The pizza isn't the same. I just got three pizzas the other night and I'm really disappointed. The Caesar salad was dry and didn't have any cheese you usually put on it. We recently got takeout at Schoolers. I don't know if it's the current situation, but we had the absolute best Lobster Roll. Bread was toasted, tons of lobster meat, tails, claws, just a bit of mayo. After all the locals recommended this place I went for lunch. From the outside the restaurant looks small and like a pub. To my surprise its pretty big! Half is a bar half is a dining area. They have a ton of seafood with seasonal prices listed, specials, and a hugeeee menu! This place was hopping for lunch, especially during off beach season. I had shrimp scampi pizza ($12) market price. The pizza It was bar sized. The taste was delicious. It was extremely buttery and garlicky.. how can you go wrong?! The only cavil I have would be the shrimp wasn't whole; it was served on the piZza in cut up chucks. I would have preferred a whole extra small shrimp. The other lunch that was ordered was a veggie penne, portion was huge! Service was good, food came out quick, and it was a nice relaxed- causal atmosphere. Dining room had a nice view of the beach. I'll start off by saying most food was actually really good. Some highlights were the French onion soup, cheese lasagna and Caesar salad with steak tips. Also the complimentary bread they give you is delicious. We did not enjoy the meatballs that came as a side to the lasagna at all. Staff was very sweet too. What really turned me off was how dirty the restaurant was. They have like a dark blue carpet and there was so much trash and half eaten bites of food on the floor, I had to consciously not look down or else I don't think I'd be able to eat my meal. It's really not that hard to just do a quick sweep after each table... you don't even have to vacuum each time. I'm talking chunks of bread with bites taken out of them on the floor. read more

Came here on a mini trip to Nantasket Beach. I was craving seafood and after reading reviews, decided to go there and try. My boyfriend and I each ordered a bowl of clam chowder and the fisherman's platter to share. The clam chowder was delicious and it has big chunks of clam and a perfect balance of potatoes and cream. I have tried other clam chowder since moving to Massachusetts and this clam chowder is the best one out of all of the others. The chowder has a smooth and velvety texture and it is not gritty or sandy. The fisherman's platter was huge! The fried clams didn't taste gritty or sandy (which is a major plus for me). Everyone in my party liked their food, but it wasn't the best food we have ever tasted. The clam chowder, was good, but not great. The fried fish and clams again were good, but not amazing. The clams were a bit over cooked. The Boston hot dogs were a bit of a disappointment, as the beans and brown bread seemed out of a can. I thought the cole slaw sour and not very tasty. The prices, however, were fantastic, especially for seafood located across the street from the ocean. The owners could easily up their prices to make more profit. Eating here is a good value. We started out with some soups because we were starving. I had the clam chowder and it was one of the best I have had and my partner had the French onion soup which was loaded with cheese on top which we love!! We then got burgers for entree because thats what we were craving...$16 for a burger with all the toppings it was a good size burger, but the burger needed some seasoning it was just bland. The onion rings were thin but they were okay and the fries were just fries haha.. overall good place and atmosphere. read more

We stopped here before we checked in to our hotel. We ordered the New England clam chowder soup along with a grilled chicken & roasted peppers sandwich. I have to say the soup was phenomenal, one of the best I've had in a long time. The sandwich was a bit on the dry side. They should have added some mozzarella. Our waiter was the NICEST man to ever exist (he wore a red hat so give him a raise). We had a party of 22 and he handled that like a #CHAMP!!!! The bread was hella bussy bus and there was smooooth butter to spread. Lobster scampi was bland the lobster was gooooodd but the rest was just slimy buttered noods. Fish tacos were #mid clammy chowder was DELICIOUS #filledtothebrim the ribs were falling off the bone (good) but there was not a lot of sauce and it was kinda dry (bad). As for the aesthetic it was kinda sad but still cutesie. It reminded me of my gmas house. The bathroom is SUPER SMALL so if you like that good for you. Not my first choice to eat but did the trick. Unfortunately I really do love this place and the food but when I called to make an expensive take-out order it's was a 1 1/2 hours before they closed, they told me no and when I asked if I could walk in as I was nearby ( a few buildings away from them) they said it would be more then a 1/2 hour before they could do anything and then hung up on me. There were two 30 something addict "parents", their addict "grandpa" and two young mistakes, I mean children, again hulls finest. Grampa upon sitting down immediately started talking about "shitting his pants", grampa discussed shitting his pants more times than I could count. Not wanting seafood (we had had our fair share the prior few days). We opted for the BLT w/ onion rings and "Nancy'a" fried chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. The place was full this Sunday night and the waitresses were fast tracking it. A casual experience, nothing fancy but decent. The BLT was good, can't really judge a place on that - the chicken sandwich was laking any flare and mediocre tasting. The Chicken was thin, fried and good but the slice of American cheese and slice of bacon were sad. The bun was bland, right out of the bag. The highlight were what appeared to be home made onion rings and fresh cut sweet potato fries. They were both cooked perfectly. Thinking I'd try the fish and chips next time! read more

The food was pretty good but we would be more inclined to go back if they cleaned up the bathroom situation. The rug in the ladies room was disgusting and the view of the urinals from the hallway was really gross. Not sure what is in them but maybe somebody needs to clean out the drains The flavor of the Caesar salad dressing was delicious but not enjoyable to eat when the salad feels more like a soup or a stew. Maybe offer the dressing on the side or ease up on the amount you put on the salad. More is not better in this situation. read more

I went last month and enjoyed it. Decided to go yesterday and get the Fisherman's Platter recommended by a paratransit driver. Made paratransit reservations after noticing both here and on their website that they are open Mondays. Get picked up at 10:40am for a requested drop off at 1pm. Get there to find out they are closed Mondays. I was facing the possibility of having to wait 2 1/2 hours to return home but was able to arrange paratransit to bring me back home again right away. I was lucky. I don't care if they don't come here to make sure their information is correct. But I do care that their website is correct. I left my house at 10:40 and did t get home until shortly after 1 to find a note on the door they are closed Mondays. I'm not going to go back ever again. I don't have the luxury of saying ok, beautiful day, let me walk across the way to the beach and then drive around to find someplace else to eat. I don't want to travel that far again to find out they aren't open when they say they will be open. I'll go to other restaurants. read more

I haven't reviewed on Yelp in a while, but our meal was totally review worthy! It was the day after Christmas. We had just moved to the Boston area a month before and was exploring the coast on a quiet Saturday. We got hungry during this trek when we found Schooner's. Everything else was closed for the season, but Schooner's was still going strong, catering to locals catching up about how their Christmas was. Inside, no frills but a comfy space. We sat in the bar area, facing the street so we could people watch. We ordered the Fisherman's platter since it has a little bit of everything. Well, a little bit is an understatement. I am so glad my wife and I decided to share this because it was huge! We had leftovers which we ate at a later time. See picture for the food mound. Things that stuck out...onion rings, fried fish, scallops, clams, and the tartar sauce. I don't know if the sauce came from a bottle or they make it themselves, but we loved it! This place is a classic mainstream America type of place. Old-school American seafood and classic New England seafood. And I had a seafood casserole it was tasty and very big. It came with delicious squash on the side. I asked for coleslaw instead of potatoes on the side which was very good. My sweetheart had a turkey club and a bowl of clam chowder. Everything was really good and the sandwich had real sliced turkey on it! All the portions were generous. You can sit near a window and look out at Nantasket Beach which was a real treat for us. My only negative comment about this place is that there were flies buzzing near the windows and I didn't like that at all. They really should do something to get rid of the flies. read more

We went here for a quick bite before dinner and had a nice time in the bar area to the left. The staff was pleasant and the food was decent enough. We didn't plan on eating here for dinner but apparently most places close early so we took the first place we could get. This was a mistake. It was 20 minutes before closing when we walked in so I can understand being annoyed but if that's the case don't seat us. Our server was clearly pissed and didn't try to hide it at all. Two of us ordered broiled scallops that came out as if they were baked w breadcrumbs and we're overcooked. The French dip was not hot and dry with bad bread. The only thing we really loved were the tater-tots. Highly recommend those. Overall not worth the price tag. read more

The food is average- I would give it 3 stars- but unfortunately some of the staff are very clearly not meant for the customer service industry. I have dealt with and witnessed people who are rude, dismissive, and frankly act like my business is an inconvenience to them. My husband was planning to pick up a gift card for someone while he was there today to pick up our takeout order. While there, my husband saw an employee ask another customer if they had been waiting long. The customer told the employee that she had been waiting for help for about 10 minutes so far. The employee said, "Oh, that's not long at all." and went back to whatever she was doing. My husband decided to get a gift card at Jake's instead. Great people and great food. Everyone in there has always been very pleasant and professional towards us. After arriving back at the house with one good sandwich and one wrap that was oily, soggy(the consistency of paste), and falling apart, we have decided that the lackluster food coupled with the unpleasant attitudes is not worth the hassle. read more

A bit disappointing. Order a fisherman' platter. I think we got the end of the oil and the end of a batch of seafood. It seemed very skimpy and the oil was slightly old. However, the fish was fresh. Customer service is not the best. I called to place an order approximately 30 minutes before the restaurant opened since I was visiting from out of town. The woman on the phone refused to take my order since the "kitchen was not open". The only reason I ended up waiting at the restaurant to place an order was because a relative liked this food here. Personally, I don't think the food is anything spectacular. I found other restaurants with better service and better food so I converted my relative who is partial to Schooners. Wow. In spite of the atmosphere (divey) and location (off-strip), Schooner's more than makes up for it with super fresh seafood and generous portions. To sum up our lunch experience: it felt like dining for giants. EVERYTHING WAS LARGER THAN LIFE! Suffice to say, we packed most of it up and relived the experience the next day. The clam chowder was one of the best I've ever had in the greater Boston area, and for entrees, my family had broiled swordfish, fried whole clams (note: not clam strips, because Cherrystones are just THAT BIG) and baked scallops. We were blown away by the size, freshness and how tasty everything was. For sides, definitely choose the fries if you're feeling hungry, because you'll get ones the size of cheese sticks. Ordering take-out from Schooners is a huge PITA --- they pick up the phone, then put you on hold for 3-4 mins. Some busy nights, they don't pick up the phone at all, or the person managing the hostess booth picks it up & hangs up on you before you can place an order (I've watched them do this to people many times). In the summer, don't even try to place a take out order via phone - just drive down there, then wait for your order to be ready. I wonder how much business they lose on account of this terrible take-out service. Maybe they should join the 21st century and use a mobile app for take-out that would send orders right to the kitchen. Food-wise, it's decent. The portions are very large & the food is 3/5 stars.
