"Good eats" is right. This is a great joint. They have some of the best fries I've ever had (twice fried). And the Stromboli is bomb-diggity. Whoever comes up with the menu really has a good pallet because the flavor combinations are really goods. Sadly, they no longer carry the vegan falafel burger that I loved. It's small inside, there's a standup counter we're a couple of people can stand and eat. They have outdoor seating and deliver food to the bar next door (which is pretty cool). The staff is super friendly. It's a little on the pricey side, but quality ingredients cost money, and I assume they pay their staff a fair wage because they're always friendly and hustling. The burger was overcooked, I ordered it medium rare and it came grayish and dry and the cheese unmelted. How does that happen? The fries were good as were the hush puppies. Our burger was perfectly cooked with melty cheese, fresh fixins, and dressed with a creamy, thousand island style sauce. The bun was both fluffy and crispy. Every bite was heaven! Being a big fan of buffalo sauce, I'm probably biased when I say I really enjoyed the buffalo fries...french fries slathered a in a tangy, spicy buffalo sauce topped with carrots, celery, and crumbled bleu cheese. I love a new Alameda enterprise trying to do things right. The location is good and the staff is very open and accomodating. I visited several times and must admit I order a scant few items on the menu, with varying results. The French fries are off the hook, which means they are excellent. The House Salad is also excellent and recommended for people who like a little bite with their greens. My disappointment is with their slice of pizza. I love the portion and thiness, but the sauce is too salty and lacking in tomato flavor ( I always order the plain cheese). Maybe it is chef variation, but someone has a heavy hand with the salt shaker. I recently had a half chicken, which was one of the best around. Scampi fries are amazing! Garlic, olive oil, chili pepper flakes, lemon and parsley over fries. Can't go wrong with that! I had previously tried the turkey and swiss sandwich which was pretty delicious. It's a good amount of meat but yet it feels like a light meal. I've been to Scolari's a half dozen times. It's definitely the go to foodie haunt of Alameda. Usually when a place does sandwiches and burgers it's rare they are good at both. Scolari's is one of those rare places. It's a shame they only have a couple tiny tables and the bar next door who is friendly to their food because I think kids would dig eating here as much as we adults. Now you could always get it to go but the stuff is so good hot off the presses it's hard to wait and frankly hot sandwiches and burgers rarely holds up well in transit. If you're looking for great sandwiches and burgers in Alameda or hell any place within 50 miles look no further you have found a haven in this quiet little island town. My personal favorites are the Stromboli, the cheeseburger, and the Chicago dog. read more

I've heard good things about Scolari's, I ordered the classic cheeseburger (sans cheese) with a half size side of fires. The burger was cooked to perfection, had a nice bun and and a large mound of lettuce. The fires were a disappointment, it might have been the oil temp, the fries were burnt. Service was excellent. Verdict 3.5 stars, decided to round up to a 4. I think there are better restaurants in Alameda for the price. YMMV. read more

i would give it 4, but I mean, the burger is literally a unique make. They have a blackberry/blueberry bacon cheeseburger. Somehow their bacon isn't fatty and oily, it's lean. The burger has blue cheese and arugula and HEAVILY seasoned burger.... So if you don't like that blue cheese and arugula combo, then you probably shouldn't get the burger. HOWEVER the regular cheeseburger is pretty good too. This burger costs 13 dollars. So it's really really expensive, you shouldn't get it unless you're really craving it or you're just loaded with money. The Stromboli on the other hand, isn't very good in my opinion, I think it's just that I didn't like the food, but I think it was well made... if that makes sense... So the Stromboli was good, just not my taste, so it wasn't good for me. 5 stars only because of its unique burger, I do not know ANYWHERE that has a burger quite like this in Alameda. read more

BUT, this review is for their Blueberry Bacon Blue Cheese Burger! OMG!!! This is hands down the best burger I've had! The combo is like a party in ur mouth with each scrumptious bite! The blueberry sauce is perfect, not too sweet and is magical with the bacon and blue cheese. Even the bun is cooked perfectly with that crisp around the edges and the meat brings that amazing burger flavor. Can't say enough about this creation, except you gotta try it! We had the cheeseburgers and scampi fries (French fries smothered in garlic and olive oil), both of which went down like bricks and kept us satiated for almost two days. They use high quality meats, breads, and produce, so at least you know that your burger bun isn't made from the same material as yoga mats like they probably use at Jack-in-the-Box across the street. This has got to be one of my favorite places on the island. The Stromboli should not be missed. The flavors are bold, honest and satisfying. They can get a bit backed up, but that's because they make all their food "a la minute", no steam table gunk here. They are just like Buffalo Wings, except they are fries instead of CHicken Wings. And they are delicious! The Chicago Dog was bomb also. One of the great things about this spot is that they encourage you to eat next door at the bar, which has a multitude of great beers on tap, including the cult favorite Pliny. After taking my very picky best friends advice I headed over to Scolari's and boy was she right, this place is delicious. A friend and I shared the burger and an order of garlic fries. The burger was so good! We got the regular burger and I was so excited to see that they used butter lettuce instead of some punk ass iceberg! I know most people don't notice what kind of lettuce is on a burger but that is something that can make or break a burger for me. (Shredded lettuce be gone!) Iw as kind of bitter that I had taken my friend up on splitting because I definitely could have eaten a whole one! The fries were delicious, and one order was definitely big enough for two. They came with ketchup and a mystery sauce that I discovered was curry mayo! Unheard of! I loved it! My friend informed me that the regularly switch this sauce up. Such a cool touch. I'm a sucker for aioli! We ordered and it was delivered to us at Lucky 13. So easy! Can't wait to come back here soon. I love, love, love Scolari's! It's my go to place for take out when I just want to stay home (but not cook) and watch a movie on a Friday or Saturday night. We normally order their special burger (they usually have it with bacon, arugula, blue cheese, sometimes with blueberry also). Yes, the burger is pricey compared to other burger joints, but this is not your average burger. Flavorwise, it can hold its own next to a burger from BURGR (Gordon Ramsey's burger joint in Las Vegas). They're really that good. Their turkey sandwich in focaccia bread is also a favorite and it always sells out. The taylor ham with fried egg is great also. I was told it's an east coast thing and families from the east coast order a lot of them. The menu changes daily and the specials are always a hit (I've had chicken tacos, pulled pork sandwiches, etc). Their salads complement the sandwiches well (think arugula with fresh mozzarella and tomatoes). Add to that an order of fries and beer (Chimay please) and the bf is in heaven! Service is fantastic! I come in about once a week and I get a warm hello every time, even if the counter person who is taking orders and delivering food next door at Lucky 13 is busy running around. You can call ahead and place your order and food is ready usually in about 15 minutes. I heard that Scolari's has a second location at Rock Wall Wine in the old base. That's worth visiting on a warm sunny day as it has a great view of the city from there. read more

I've given Scolari's five stars before but they've lost a step since their recent remodel. They always offered great, solid menu items that justified their prices. If you left, not feeling full, it was your own fault. Their menu was always anchored by a great special burger, usually with a combination of greens, an interesting cheese and a fruit based sauce. Then they included a smoked meat sandwich and some gourmet cold sandwiches. What's not to love? Everyone was happy. We went in yesterday and Scolari's had gone Food Network. What the hell? Crostini? Salmon Carpaccio? Sashimi? What made matters worse was that everything seemed to have morphed into an appetizer portion at full entre prices. One of us had the salmon carpaccio and another had the burrata salad. Neither person felt satisfied or that they got their money's worth. Oh . . . and the burrata salad first came out with NO Burrata! (Apparently, the cooks weren't even up on the new food network menu.) The three of us had a burger (good), burrata salad (small), and carpaccio (small) and the bill was $46. I could go to other restaurants and get an appetizer and a burger with a side salad for $20. Why do I need to pay $46? I hope they return to their roots and stop being greedy. They will get one more chance from me. Watch out though . . . this isn't the place that it was. read more

I have been wanting to go this establishment for awhile now and finally my tastebuds were blessed. For appetizer we tried the scampi fries and garlic fries and they were both delicious. I ate the classic cheeseburger and my cousin had the breakfast sandwich that was delicious according to her. I want to like them but they repeatedly forget food in take out orders and the staff is extremely rude. Today I tried for the second attempt to get their biscuits when ordering and they forgot them again in our large order. Last time they also forgot the pork belly in our large take out after we asked them to double check on the phone. Long wait times and high prices are only accepted when the food is delivered. Can't like this place no matter how many chances. Terrible experience it left a scar on my whole family and we are locals in Alameda.
