The oysters are fresh, no fishy taste. Lazy Man's Cioppino: Lot of fresh seafood, probably the best of all the dishes ordered. The large scallops stood out the most out of all. The tomato soup can be quite salty. I would recommend this if you enjoy seafood. Linguini con Vongole: The pasta is nicely cooked, chewy and seasoned. While it's technically an Italian restaurant focused on fresh "pier to plate" seafood, the menu has something for everyone. If you want a steak or a fried chicken sandwich or a bland picky eater kids' meal, they've got you. I should also mention the charming waterside location and classic 1960s decor. It really did feel like stepping into a time machine. I could almost imagine Tony Bennett seated over in the corner laughing with friends over a family style feast. Yes, these are fine dining prices. You are paying for professional table service and the highest quality of fresh ingredients. We oldies did lessen the blow a bit by opting for the $37 weekday 2-course lunch special (plenty of food for me), but our college student opted for a $26 app and a $35 entree, so our total bill with drinks, tax, and tip was still over $200. No regrets! We didn't opt for the cioppino ($52) this time, but that's large portion fit for 2 adults and another way to soften the sticker shock. Such a gem. Wandered into Scoma without knowing it's an iconic spot. You're immediately greeted with classic, traditional and timeless decor and 'rat pack' style music the whole time. The service is what I consider 'old school' in a good way. You felt like you knew everyone there. Dining alone can sometimes be awkward but it was an experience! Lychee martini was perfectly balanced. Started off with a half dozen oysters. They do only give cocktail sauce and lemons but the oysters were SO fresh and wonderful. Ordered the famous cioppino. I liked her more than the food. It was classic Scoma menu. We had Petrale sole - on the bland side but cooked well. I liked the mixed rice pilaf but veggies were a mix kind of thrown together. Two of our friends tried the cioppino and like it. The other had the shrimp scallop mixed platter and said it was too salty. The clam chowder was good and even better were the Truffle Parmesan fries and calamari fritti appetizers. In past years the calamari was crispier and more generous portion. But these are the times with inflation. We shared a strawberry sorbet and chocolate cake slice. Both were delicious. Too full to get order the tiramisu again but next time will do so. And after perusing a list of restaurants in the Fisherman's Wharf neighborhood, and after learning that Scoma's Restaurant was actually one of the few in the neighborhood that recognized Happy Hour, albeit from 2- 5 p.m. on weekdays. Making a visit to Scoma's Restaurant via public transportation is accessible thanks to the F Street Car that travels along the Embarcadero and thankfully my friend was waiting for me at their bar area upon my entry. The Happy Hour menu at Scoma's Restaurant or what they call the Happiest Hour at Pier 47 has one main entrée, which they call their Fisherman's Special, in addition to a food section of what they call Wharf Bites, and of course their beverage menu which they call "An Honorable Pastime" with beer, wine, and cocktails. The regular menu at Scoma's Restaurant also is decently priced with categories including Starters, Soups & Salads, Pastas, Sandwiches, Scoma's Classics, Seafood & Meat, Sides, and their Beverage menu. Since we came for the Happiest Hour, we remained committed to ordering from their menu, so we started with ordering their Crispy Zucchini with Marinara and Parmesan and Steamed Mediterranean Mussels, and I enjoyed their Scoma's Classic Cable Car from the cocktail section of their Happy Hour menu, which was made with Sailor Jerry, Triple Sec, lemon and sugar, while my friend enjoyed a glass of their Shannon Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon. Dining on our two Happy Hour entrées was a nice way to spend a cold evening indoors, as we people watched as diners were a constant presence by the door. I really enjoyed Scoma's Classic Cable Car, which seemed to be their spin on the classic lemon drop cocktail. Still slightly famished my friend and I decided to split their Fisherman's Special meal during Happy Hour, which for 25 dollars, we split their Double Cheeseburger which was served with double meat, double cheese, pickles, Thousand Island, and a side of fries and came with a glass of wine, although there was some confusion with our bartender/ server who assumed it came with a beer on tap, when we showed him their menu, he agreed and I enjoyed the same glass of Shannon Ridge Cabernet. My dining mate wasn't the biggest fan of many of the veggies that came with the double cheeseburger and when we asked to have everything but the cheese on the side, they happily obliged. The burger was so nicely cooked that we both found it funny that a restaurant best known for freshly caught and expertly prepared seafood, especially their legendary crab, also turns out to be such a quick and satisfying burger. Our total bill came to $107.54, split two ways, which wasn't too bad considering it was Happy Hour and a restaurant in a major tourist area. Seeing so many other diners ordering the Vintage Egg Nog served in a classic glass bottle, I couldn't resist buying one for my friend. At $65 before tax, it made for a pricey but memorable holiday treat. With an extensive wine list, local microbrews, and expertly crafted cocktails, Scoma's Seafood Restaurant remains a true San Francisco classic. We had your typical clam chowder and fish and chips like typical tourists and they actually superseded our expectations! The fish was crispy, fresh and had great flavor. Made a reservation for 6 online and requested a waterfront view table. When we got there we were told that they don't have a table big enough for 6 people with waterfront views. Of course I don't expect all requests to be guaranteed, but if it's not even an option, it would've been nice to know that before or have that information be available on their website prior to making a reservation, especially since they require a credit card to book and will charge a $10 cancellation fee. Their booth for 6 was a half oval shaped booth all facing outwards which was really tight in space for 6 adults (small to medium build) and fairly difficult to share dishes family style. I wish they had larger tables available for groups of 4+ (if they did, they didn't offer it to us). Our server was super friendly and accommodating. We got the clam chowder, lazy man's cioppino, pasta puttanesca, and linguine con vongole. Clam chowder: delicious with plenty of clams Cioppino: very good, super flavorful, filled to the brim with very fresh seafood Pasta puttanesca: very good, saucy and flavorful, so much fresh seafood and I loved the salmon in this dish. I was a server for 17 years so I know how hard it is but every single person we encountered here was so miserable. After the comatose host I started counting and got exactly 0 smiles or eye contact. The place has all the classic SF food staples and an old-school vibe that feels really authentic. The staff were super friendly and welcoming. We happened to find ourselves in the City on a weekday and made a lunch reservation for three. They were offering a special lunch prix fixe menu which looked really good. To start, Scoma's is right on the pier and has great views! They offer free valet parking but when we visited there was plenty of space for cars. Our reservation was for 11am when they open. We were a little early but ordered some cocktails at the bar. I had an Irish Coffee which was great! We were seated by a window and enjoyed the great weather and views during our meal. Upon arriving early we had a drink at the bar while waiting for our table. The bartender, whose name I unfortunately did not get, could not have been friendlier and more helpful. Our table was ready early and we were seated at a lovely booth in the back. We started with the Calamari and as someone who is not usually a fan of calamari this was some of the best I have had in a while. Not overly breaded and decently seasoned. For our mains we split the Louis combo salad and the mixed grilled seafood plate. Both dishes were HUGE but very tasty. The fish on the grilled plate was a bit over cooked for my liking but the flavors were good and the combo salad was delicious. We finished with some ice cream for the birthday girl which she enjoyed. With approximately 4800 reviews, what is there to say about Scoma's that hasn't already been said. Located all alone on one of the quieter piers, Scoma's has been a family favorite for years. Anytime a family member would visit the Bay Area, my aunt/uncle would always treat them to dinner here. My uncle transitioned several years ago and Scoma's continued to be my aunt's favorite. So much so, that when we had a family reunion in the area back in 2022, she hosted a dinner here (using their private space) for the entire family (40+ people). Within the past ~8 weeks, my aunt transitioned and since quite a few people traveled to the area for her services, her son and I decided to keep the tradition alive by planning an impromptu dinner at Scoma's in her honor. Once we figured out who would attend for dinner we called and made a reservation for 12 people. In actuality, there were only 11 of us but it worked out as we kept the 12th chair in her honor. Service at Scoma's has always been superb, everyone who works there are polished professionals who understand what it means to be in the service industry. Thankfully, that held true on this most recent visit. We had a primary server and she had someone helping her to ensure our every need was met. Note, if you have reservation for a large party, be mindful that they will not seat you until everyone is present. Just like the service, the food has always been delicious, I have never had a bad experience here. From some of freshest seafood around to a delicious wagyu filet, there is not a bad option on the menu. As for beverages, they have a fully stocked bar so there's something available for everyone. A Special Day in SF After meeting with the world-famous Dr. Akizuki about my sons elbow, I knew it was the perfect time to share one of my favorite places in San Francisco--@ScomasSF. One of the best seafood spots on the planet, Scoma's has a rich history of the freshest fish, SF legends, and a true American Dream story. Countless signed photos of famous people, political figures, and our favorite athletes line the walls. The food is as good as you would expect, but service even better. But beyond that, it was my father's and grandfather's absolute favorite restaurant. I have so many great memories here, and today, I got to share it with my son.
