Honestly, the best rooftop experiences I've ever had in San Francisco! The atmosphere was so cute, and "Instagrammy", lively, and pleasant, with a great DJ, delicious food, and really nice people. We sat at the bar area, which had such a fun vibe. We started with the Flor de Manzana mango drink, and WOW It tasted like a frozen mango, so refreshing and absolutely delicious! For food, we ordered the Beef Carpaccio, Crispy Tuna, and Sato Maki. Everything was really good, but the Sato Maki was definitely my number 1, followed closely by the Crispy Tuna. The combination of the music, food, drinks, and overall ambiance made this such a fun night out. I was here last night for a birthday dinner. First of all, words cannot express the overall vibe of this place. The venue is actually pretty big. It has the perfect lighting to create that grown, sexy, city life atmosphere. The outdoor seating is amazing. Very chic. Perfect for a girls night dinner, business meeting, or cute date night. The food was ABSOLUTELY delicious. The restaurant is designed to be "sharing style" so they don't really have true entrées. However, you don't have to share and can definitely order your own items. I HIGHLY recommend the truffle mushroom rice. BOMB! I also got to try the lobster truffle, dragon roll, avocado truffle roll, and salmon. All VERY delicious. Nobody at our table had any complaints. My best friend LOVED the wagyu sliders and the wagyu and plantain spring rolls. The service was immaculate! Our server was Marcos. He was very attentive and checked on us often. My best friend has seafood and nut allergies and he was very careful, making sure that he thoroughly explained what each dish had in it so that she wouldn't accidentally eat something she shouldn't. We also had someone constantly coming around to refill our water and another person who came around a few times just to see how we were doing and if we liked everything. Finally, we got to meet THE chef Jordan Sclare! He came by our table just to check on us and ended up sitting and chatting with us for a while. I booked HH offered M-F 5pm-7pm for the Chotto bar & lounge area from their homepage. Reservation at 5pm party of two. Subsequently I received several text message reminders - the last one listed the maximum amount of time allowed based on party size. My party of two stated 90 minutes. Having looked at menu options online we knew what we wanted to have: * pisco sour cocktail- very authentic. Nice foam. * cauliflower bites - warm and crunchy. * wagyu slider - alright. A little mushy. * chicken tostada - not bad but friend didn't care for it. I tasted it. I liked the chicken. Our server Jesus was very attentive. He allowed up to pay separately. I visited Chotto Matte for happy hour with my girl friends as a pre-birthday catch up and I was absolutely taken aback by how amazing the service was! We didn't mention anything but had noted on our reservation we are celebrating a birthday and our wonderful hostess brought us champagne and dessert even though we just ordered drinks and happy hour bites! Chotto Matte was easily one of the best solo dining experiences I've had at any rooftop in San Francisco. It wasn't very busy when I stopped by and the ambiance was amazing throughout the whole building. I started off with the La Chakana cocktail and it was very smooth as well as not too strong in my opinion. It was presented beautifully by my server, who was incredible by the way! His hospitality truly settled me in and made this entire experience top tier. In fact the entire staff was so kind and welcoming my whole stay. I ended up ordering the Wagyu Sliders, which were decent. I loved the stamp on the bun, though! I also got chips and guac, which was so yummy!! The chips were so crispy and full of flavor. I really wanted to try their Japanese Wagyu steak and got 5oz! This was definitely near the top of my list out of everything I ordered. The steak was so juicy and tender and the presentation of the salt was pretty, too! My absolute favorite of the day was the Matcha Tres Leches!! Checked out Chotto Matte for the first time today. It's Japanese Peruvian food. My husband had his work off site here a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Today, I got a pisco sour and he got a beer. We ordered the spicy chicken karaage, tuna tataki, and dragon roll. The views are beautiful! We sat outside and really enjoyed the sunny day. Love the ambiance of this spot as we walked into the space during happy hour, Chotto Hour. There's a DJ spinning in the middle of the lounge area next to the bar. The servers were attentive but the bar area can get alittle crowded during HH. Luckily we were seated almost immediately by the lounge close to the DJ which might be loud for some. Had a reservation for the outdoor rooftop space for a later time but wanted to try HH. The HH cocktails and food selections were pretty good. Food wise, the beef tataki, beef tostada and sliders were the highlights. They're good value for the flavor. For amount, beef tostada and sliders are good bets. A bit too fast actually. But then the 6th dish and the dessert took too long to come out. The first dish was the spicy tuna on crispy rice. Although crispy, it was stick-to-your-teeth chewy. My wife is vegetarian and had the Purple & White Tostada Chips. From the main menu, she ordered the Pachamanca Papas, Crispy parmesan potatoes, batan salsa. I tried the Pollo Picante, Wagyu Sliders and Beef Tostada. All the dishes were delicious. The restaurant workers were friendly and had good teamwork as several of them tag teamed to deliver the dishes and take requests for more food. We sat outdoors in the patio. Second time around, we had the Elements of Chotto lunch. Having 4 menu options to choose from we tried the FIRE and LAND and SEA options. Each menu provides 4-5 small courses however the main plate was quite large. As usual the servers were attentive and provided great service as expected. I've come here a few times for business happy hours...which is good because it is expensive even by San Francisco standards. You could call it upscale to be nice but at happy hours a Japanese craft beer will cost you probably double what you think it should. The food, also aggressively priced, ranges from good to wow. I can assume by the looks it gets to be a scene and be seen place at night with more of a night club in LA vibe. I don't hate that but it is what it is. The dishes were plated beautifully. I enjoyed the ceviche the most. Tart and refreshing. The wagyu was good. Not as melt in my mouth as I'm used to, but I don't mind a slight chew. The octopus was very disappointing, No smoke or char. I was wishing we had ordered something else. The brulee was missing that creamy texture. Maybe it was under? It was a lil like brulee soup, but slightly thicker. Service was amazing as expected. Vibe is lively with somewhat loud music. We were still able to have a convo and catch up. They do have a patio, but it was closed due to the rain. If you have issues seeing in low lighting, I suggest using your phone flashlight or looking at the menu ahead of time. It was hard reading the menu with my old eyes. Without tip, our bill was almost $500. So basically $300 each with tip. For a meal where I did not walk away with leftovers or even that full, it felt like a lot. I know they have a HH, so maybe I would come back for that. It was my first time but my friend had been there before. The restaurant is located on the 2nd floor and has a great ambiance. It's moody and dark. Perfect for a sultry, date night. The interior design is amazing. We were able to walk in and be seated within 10 minutes on a weekend. The staff were incredibly polite and friendly. The food is a Japanese Peruvian fusion. Every single dish was impeccable. The ribeye was cooked to perfection and the truffle teriyaki sauce was a great addition. The corn ribs were also delicious.
