I heard from a friend that Scoopers was better than In-n-Out so I had to check it out. Not that I'm a big In-n-Out fan - I like it but I also know that it is incredibly mediocre - but because this friend of mine mentioned it beat out one of the most popular hamburger chains. After some fellow foodie testimony I just had to experience it for myself. For those of you who don't know, I always base my reviews on my ABC rating system, which covers the three main pillars of excellent dining/drinking experiences: 1) Ambiance, 2) Business, and last but not least, 3) Cuisine/Cocktails! With my ABC rating system you are guaranteed to get a good rec every time you read my reviews. So, without further ado, let's get into the review! Ambiance: *** The inside of the establishment was clean and there were not very many people there that day (even the cashier had said that it was slow that day). There was a lot of 50's and 60's decor - lots of food and soda brands. It looked something like a cross between a 50's/60's and modern diner, definitely an interesting vibe. There was music playing in the background and there was not a whole lot more going on here. The only reason I settled on three stars for this category was because there was nothing negative to do with the ambiance. Business: *** I don't know if I just happened to visit on one of their off days but there was only one ning the whole show - doing the prepping, cooking, cleaning, order-taking, and cashiering. Through no fault of his own, the establishment was certainly lacking in these important areas. This caused service to be slow and quite impersonal. I also found the pricing to be unreasonable - the cost to make a combo with a large side and drink was more than the cost of the burger itself! What kind of craziness is that? Meal: Pastrami burger, 1/4lb single cheeseburger, side of fries, side of onion rings, Diet Coke float. Cuisine: *** I found Scoopers to taste a whole lot like Beefy's in Midtown - flavorful enough with major faults. The downfall at Scoopers is in one of its main attractions - it's burgers. It too, like In-n-Out, was incredibly mediocre, only with more options. The burgers were not too greasy and the condiments were not in excess but the patties were fatty and it was obvious that the majority of flavor was derived from the meat fat. The fries were tasty and crispy, as were the onion rings. The Coke float was underwhelming, which makes me wish I had tried one of their shakes since so many reviews rave about them. For that reason, I'm going to have to try one next time I go. All-in-all, Scoopers is a good place to grab a burger and fries if your best options are McDonalds or In-n-Out. While it would not be my first choice for burgers, it was definitely good enough to warrant me going back there. Final rating: 3.0 read more

Ordered the Al Burger, which is a three patty dazzling & tall burger, then added 2x bacon and mushrooms to make it "The Epic Burger". Went to scoopers since my bf wanted to get stop by. Now usually the food is always amazing and the customer service is good! But It turns out at this location it's just a bunch of middle age men working with attitude of teenagers (specifically the old guy with the gray hair) i felt rushed to order and he projected the energy of not wanting to be there, but anyways I got a MatterHornberger plain, which is my usual go to, except this burger only had two strips of bacon, 1 piece of cheese, and two very sad patties. Other than that I guess the pace of service was decent, but they rushed it too fast. I feel like they skipped up on the quality of the food. Very disappointing, but I'll live. read more

32oz milkshakes? Say whaaaaaat! Only at Scooper's! Now I'm not sure if they've been serving up big boys like these for the last 42 or so years, but I like to imagine it's place on today's menu is holding space for the olden golden days of "A milkshake and two straws please!", just adding to the amazing nostalgic vibes here. The craving for a shake hit us after shopping small business Saturday, and there was only one place that could fill it. So we made our way here from Midtown just ahead of dinner time and got a 32oz chocolate malt with two straws for us to share. We ended up sharing a straw, but we also shared the shake. The size left us enough to enjoy then and another night for dessert! While it would probably be way too easy to take this down by yourself, I strongly suggest against it. This is a serious shake! Amazing spot for a date night! My girlfriend and I went here the other weekend before going to a drive-in movie, and it was absolutely delicious. The burgers were juicy and pact full of flavor. The onion rings had great crunch and flavor! And of course, you can't go wrong with a classic milkshake. The ambiance was very classic, and clean! Service was a bit slow- but it's to be expected with the quality of food they're providing and how busy they are. Definitely recommend! read more

I stopped in on a taco Tuesday and ordered the taco grande special! It was very quiet in there only another couple. I ordered the special and it came with 2 tacos grande (loaded) fries, and a soda. I was happy with my tacos as they were a different type rather than authentic, I don't want to be racist bcuz I'm not but these were white people tacos...delicious and a decent amount of meat and toppings, definitely will hit them up soon on another taco Tuesday! read more

We had small hot fudge sundae and a banana split. A tasty, nostalgic (how do those packaged chopped peanuts always taste like childhood?), fairly inexpensive treat on a hot afternoon. I thought mine a little stingy on hot fudge, and not thick like my favorite Baskin-Robbins hf, but the Oreo cookie was a nice touch. Glad I don't live close by, or would eat too often! read more

I work across the street from this Scoopers location & eat here often for lunch. Food & service at this location are consistently good. Today I'm greeted with hand written signage on both entrances indicating they aren't open today 5/13/23!?!?! Awesome. I burned most of my lunch break only to find your business closed for no apparent reason on a beautiful Saturday morning. We've been eating at scoopers for close to 30 years. First the original location on prater, and then the one in Reno. The low reviews over a parking lot person? Or them being so busy? What?! Please ignore those. These guys at both locations irk their butts off. It's a family owned business. Give them some grace. Today, one of the employees mentioned a "hack" to the Apple pie shake(added sour cream and graham crackers) it tasted exactly like a Dutch apple pie with vanilla ice cream on top. I tried to eat only half, to save half for tomorrow but, no luck. It's not gonna make it! This place is awesome, and it's always so clean inside. Service was so fast, and they were so nice! First time here was pretty good lunch hour, burgers were tasty, second time take out Pastrami was not bad but not great. Third time ordered burgers and onion rings take out. It was around 4pm Wednesday and not busy asked for 1 double burger with cheese and 3 double burgers no cheese. Paid and noticed was charged for 2 double instead of 1 cashier was a snot. Welp, I give up. I've wanted to enjoy this place. I've wanted it to be great. I've never been more hopeful for a restaurant in my neighborhood. But alas, it wasn't meant to be. Here's today's interaction. I walked in, went to the counter and the associate (no name tag, so who knows the employees name) just stared at me. Me: HI (All smiles) Employee: what do you want to order. Me: ok, um i'd like an order of chicken fingers, and a double cheeseburger, with just relish. Employee: we don't have relish. Me: oh. Ok (thinking that's strange for a hamburger and hot dog shop not to have relish) well then just leave it plain, naked, I'll add it at home. Employee: K. Drinks? Me: none, thank you. Employee: k Never have I met an employee that couldn't be less interested in doing their job, and sadly this is the trend for this restaurant. Now I understand that some associates have bad days, and I hate to make that reflect poorly on the business, but that is why I have waited to leave this review and to finally give up on this restaurant. I've made comments to management before and was told simply "I check it out." Nothing has ever gotten better. And then finally, got home to find that the burger had EVERYTHING on it. (Onions, tomato's (which I'm allergic to) mayonnaise, and pickles. LOADED!!! When your job is to simply stand there, smile and be polite, and you can't pull that off, I say go dig a ditch. This place made my whole family sick! We got their family pack (4 burgers, 4 fries and 4 drinks) seemed like a good deal until you add cheese to the burgers and we also got ranch ($.25 each), which just tasted like Mayo. The buns were cold like they weren't thawed all the way and the burgers were dry. The worst part was that my children, myself and my mom all had horrible stomachaches and diarrhea for the rest of the day and the following days. ... does this even look like a burger to anyone? Scoopers is a fave for me and my boyfriend, I hate that I am writing this right now. For me to wait an entire 35 minutes, I don't think this should be in my bag. They forgot my second order of fries, and the order they did give me was thrown upside down in the bag. The root beer float I got had orange syrup in it from the woman's order prior to mine(she got the orange ice cream cone). The burgers themselves were so terrible in taste that we couldn't even finish them. We had to get food from somewhere else it was so bad. They don't clean their machines between each use obviously (I mean come on, orange syrup?), the wait time is absolutely atrocious for the quality, and on top of it all: I couldn't even call them to express this. Their phone line is out of service like it has been for months now. Scoopers was a go-to lunch spot for us, so much so that I even have my info in their frequent diners program. I've gradually started to lose interest in eating here because I noticed the slow (but evident) decline in quality and service, but after this? Can't say I'll be returning. read more

Stopped by here for a late lunch with my hubby. The atmosphere is super kicked back. If In-n-Out and Mel's had a baby, this would be it. We loved the music, the service and the food was decent. We were starving and just wanting some greasy fast food while in the area and were surprised to see a second Scoopers location from the Sparks one we already know and love. The price and service are hard to beat and the burgers are perfectly greasy and topped with very tasty condiments. Scoopers is the bomb dot com. My girlfriends and I come here on our lunch breaks all of the time and always leave happy. It's your typical burger joint but they have so much more going on! There are literally SO many shake flavors to choose from. They also have more than just burgers, the wraps and chicken fingers are good. The only con I can think of is sometimes they forget to add a flavor to my shake if I add more than one but it's easy to fix. read more

We arrived at 7:40pm and stood in line with 2 people ahead of us. Within 5 minutes of waiting the cashier announced that they were not taking any more orders because they close in 15 minutes. The cashier then proceeded to take the order of 2 people ahead of us. When she got to us she told us that she had said she is not taking any more orders and that she had turned the sign off to make sure of that. We told her we were already in line so she said fine, at this point it was clear she did not want to help us so we walked out. Maybe change your hours to closing at 7:45pm. By golly of course I had to get one, but which one do I choose?? This was our first time visiting Scoopers and we chose it because today is National Soft Serve Day! There are 8 different flavors of soft serve and you can mix the flavors. Another thing that caught my attention was the 20% offer for checking in at the restaurant. The employee didn't know about the Yelp check-in, so that needs to be updated.....BUT he did still give us 10% off which was really nice! My husband got a Heath Bar milkshake & a small cool lemon soft serve, I got a large chocolate & butter pecan soft serve. We were both very happy and will be back to try more of the menu!! read more

The server was intuitive and asked if we wanted to wait for the kids sundae until our daughter had finished her food. Meh. This location is a far cry from the original on Prater and, IMO won't be open much longer if they continue to operate as they currently are. My husband and I went it while we were waiting for an appointment to be over. We had about 20 minutes to eat. Decor is pretty awesome in this place, fun signs and bright items all over the place. It's a little to hodge podgy but it's still cute. I actually think the place would benefit by ripping current decor down and turning it into a malt shop theme. They have a huge menu, tons of craft looking sodas and an abundance of shake flavors like the prater location. Unfortunately that's where the sort of swell review ends. The food took approximately 16 minutes to arrive which was nuts considering my husband only got a shake and I only got a burger. This made us late once we left which was upsetting. The burger was hands down the worst burger I've ever had. I ate it because I was starving and it had been about 16 hours since my last meal. The beef was flavorless, the burger dry and the whole think looked like it had been physically squished down with someone's hand. My husband said his shake was not nearly as good as prater. We left disappointed and kinda of disgusted. Won't be going back. I really do love scoopers and I really wanted this location to be as awesome but it seems it's not at all consistent.
