My experience with the Scott Miller salon has nothing to do with hair, but PLEASE read the suggestion below if you are going in for a coloring or similar: I go there because I have a fragrance hobby, and they are just about the only place in Rochester that carries higher end niche fragrances, as compared to the standard designer fragrances we can all find at any of the local department stores. They carry three fragrance lines I'm interested in, but I wasn't real interested in going there once I realized it was in Pittsford. Pittsford has always had a potentially snooty vibe in the Rochester area, with a lot of wealth concentrated in this suburb. But my experiences have surprised me, having been there about four times now over the past six months to sniff a fragrance or two each time. The staff at the door are smiling and welcoming, and very kind and patient with me in spraying a test strip or two of these costly fragrances, so that I can determine if they're for me or not. I often come in dressed very down, casual, and am still treated kindly without any impatience, considering it seems to be a pretty busy salon each time (which is also a good sign for those who may be interested in the hair/etc side of it). PLEASE READ: I've had "hair disasters" when I was younger, so I can relate to a bad review in places like these. Back in the days when I had a lot of hair. I would encourage anyone who is making any kind of color change, be it minor or major, to consider paying for a one-strip color test of your hair before making the change. A bad hair job can really ruin a positive attitude, and it's SO worth it to pay whatever it costs to make sure the color is what you want. ALSO, it is VITALLY important that you explain in GREAT DETAIL EXACTLY what kind of color or style you want, bring pictures on your phone for example. Miscommunication happens constantly and WILL determine very often a bad outcome, simply because a stylist is not on the same wavelength with you. ASK the stylist if what you're trying to do is possible with your hair color and type before you do it. Not everything is possible, depending on many many factors such as age, hair color/graying, density/length, etc. I know it doesn't look like it from my pic, but I have a LOT of experience with hair treatments in my past. Just wanted to chime in on that, and tell my experience with their fragrance line, in a wealthy part of Rochester and how I was treated well. I went to Scott Miller for about a year. Tried several top stylists (coming in every 4-6 weeks) and never got consistent results. I gave one a try, not happy and would try another. In all that time I loved my cut once. That person could not make the magic happen twice? I have thick, long naturally blonde hair that I prefer in layers with heavy side bangs and some cool highlights thrown in. I'm just not sure they bother matching up specific hair to stylists that are best suited to it. Not every stylist is terrific at short cuts, or thin hair, etc. I also prefer that my stylist be the person who highlights my hair and that is just not how they do things here. I've never bothered to do a yelp review before, but after having a facial recently with Liv, I thought it would be best to share with anyone who's thinking about getting a facial at Scott Miller. First and foremost, I highly recommend her! She's extremely nice, professional and makes you feel comfortable and relaxed from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave. After my facial with her, my face was glowing and since my pores have had less blackheads and the whiteheads that I couldn't get rid of, she extracted in painless moments - thank goodness! Again, I highly recommend going to see her. An additive bonus, she's a makeup artist also! I started with Scott way back when he was in Fairport, New York, and he cut my hair himself. Then he moved to Pittsford, where I followed. In the beginning the Pittsford location was marvelous. However, it's just so busy now; it's hard to relax and enjoy your time. More and more, the care is depersonalized, with many people involved with your appointment, not just your stylist. I bounced around from one salon to another before trying Scott Miller, mainly because I had always heard how expensive it was. Turns out it's not as expensive as I had thought and now I could never get my hair done anywhere else. The inside is open and bright and trendy and everyone there is friendly and helpful. I can't say enough good things about both this salon and the people at it. I moved from NY several months ago and have hard the hardest time finding anyone who can match what Breanna was able to do with my hair (and when she was unavailable, the few times Liz did it) and overall just miss how easy this salon was. I got a really high quality color and cut (Olivia usually cut my hair, and she was great too) every time and they were awesome with my red. They also shared their formula with me when I moved. They were cheaper than other salons in the Pittsford area and overall did a great job. I recently signed up for a complimentary makeover during a Bobbi Brown promotional event that Scott Miller partnered with Yelp to offer. I'm not sure that I had any expectations ... but WOW did Scott Miller and the Bobbi Brown makeup artist exceed them and knock it out of the park!!! Start with a complimentary glass of champagne or mimosa! Followed by a very soothing, kind, gentle make-over during which the artist "read" me perfectly and gave me a very subtle, but very attractive "look." And no pushiness nor hard-sell AT ALL. In fact, I had to ask about prices and who to consult to make a purchase. My appointment started exactly on time, and took exactly as long as they predicted (45 mins). I love the products I bought, which help hide the rosiness of my Rosacea without looking heavy! Having moved to Pittsford/Brighton area a few months back, I've put off finding a salon as long as I could. Found Scott Miller based on Yelp and close location. With minimal expectations I booked a day of appt and got fit in due to a cancellation with Bri - $40. I later found out she has 4 years of experience. What a deal! I mentioned to the receptionist this is my first time in, and I got a awesome tour! So convenient they have so many brand in house: M.A.C., Kiehls, Nars, La Mer, Bobbi Brown, etc. plus the typical high end hair brands. Bri was bright, friendly, and very knowledgeable! I showed her an Instagram of the hair style that inspired my last cut - loose waved long bob with slightly shorter back (frmheadtotoe). The finalized version looked even better than my last cut! She even styled it with loose curls for the wave effect - just like the photo! I mentioned I struggle with styling and she offered for me to bring in my curling iron next time to show me :). Bri showed products I wasn't familiar with and explained their purpose, but wasn't pushy to guilt me to buy! This makes me want to get them next time. Can't wait to go back to Bri in a few months. I browsed the store as I was leaving and Gia from the M.A.C. invited for me to come in I had a few minutes. I'm familiar with the brand via friends but never tried it myself! She applied a bb cream (matching to my skin tone) and a light blush. Both went really well with my pale skin. Again not pushy for me to buy. Really looking forward to coming back to get the blush. I have thick, dark, and wavy hair. Yet Marissa did an AMAZING job blowing it straight and giving me bangs! I'm not sure why the pricing is listed as "pricey" when the haircut was only $40. Maybe it's because I lived in NYC and L.A., so relatively speaking this place is very affordable! Also Jennifer (I think that's her name) was very helpful in the makeup area. After years of bad hair cuts, bad color, and badly damaged hair by salons that were not educating their stylists and colorists on a regular basis, I finally found Scott Miller 4 years ago. I can not go anywhere else now! Education is a huge part of the salon. I love that I know the employees are always up on the latest trends and techniques. My hair has been absolutely transformed and has never looked better. Sam is my stylist and she is incredibly talented and professional. She has done some amazing styles for me and superb updo's. Elisha is my colorist and I can assure you you will not find a more professional or knowledgeable colorist. She equally talented and knows how to find just the right color for you. The two of them have me on an excellent product routine which has literally transformed my hair from dull, limp, fine hair to shiny, soft, and full. Kerastase products are amazing and sold at the salon. As for make-up...Silvana...oh how I love her! She is so amazing. I have had my make-up done by her on several occassions and every time I am so incredibly pleased. My only regret is that I didn't meet her sooner...she is THAT amazing! The products sold at Scott Miller are absolutely top of the line. I was recently introduced to the La Mer skin care line which is so luxurious and I am so pleased I can purchase it locally. I purchase all of my make-up, skin care, and hair product at the salon. The staff is incredibly knowledgable and not pushy to get you to purchase products. Scott Miller has unfortunately lost my business. The salon is beautiful and capable of great work, but my recent experiences have shown me that the salon is not keeping up with the lofty expectations they have created for themselves. I have been a regular at Scott Miller for years I have had great experiences here trying out new hair styles. I am leaving this review because I recently had a couple of bad experiences and I do not appreciate the way they were handled. Firstly, my boyfriend and I went to get facials. I have had many in the past and know how they should be done. I was happy with my experience, but my boyfriend had a far different experience. It was the first time he had it done so he did not know what to expect. His aesthetician did not perform the full service, didn't perform extraction, or even give a consultation on his skin type. She took full advantage of him not knowing what the service entailed and performed HALF of the service. She is a terrible representation of what this salon is all about. I politely forwarded my concern to some girls there and they said they would relay my message to management to assess the situation. In short, I was blown off, tried contacting them again, with the same results. My concern was never even considered. In addition I recently had my hair colored. I gave the colorist a detailed description of what I wanted. I included pictures of my desired result. My hair came out a completely different color and look than I had wanted. If you are going to charge people top dollar for services, management better ensure that the employees are carrying them out correctly. The identity of Scott Miller is one of luxury and quality. Scott Miller advocates that their employees have training according to company standards. If this is the case, service should be consistent and carried out as described. In a great business, a loyal customers complaint should not be ignored. I will never return to Scott Miller. read more

This 5-star review is for aesthetician services only - I've been going to Hillary for many years and she's amazing. She's done facials, peels and other fun stuff to my face:) and I've always been happy. Hillary took the time to learn about me and my skin and made recommendations for treatments and products, but was never pushy about it. She tried out new treatments and techniques on me, but always after explaining them and their benefits (and the cost - so there were no surprises). I didn't love every product I tried (which is to be expected) but I found some amazing products, some of which are now on my HG list, thanks to Hillary. My skin never looked better and I know it's mostly due to Hillary's work and product recommendations! Scott Miller carries a number of wonderful skin care products, not found elsewhere in Rochester. Some are pretty pricey, but they are worth it and you can always stock up at the annual holiday sale. I had my brows down there years ago (Victoria was amazing, but sadly she moved away and I've never found anyone nearly as good; definitely 5-stars for her). I went to SM for a short time for color and cut services but was never happy with either, especially for the price (2-stars). And I've had pedicures there which were almost always great (4-stars). read more

I have VERY sensitive skin. My skin is so sensitive that the last two times I had my eyebrows waxed (***once by myself and once at a different place***)it actually pulled the skin off. It healed up after about a week, but eventually the time came that I needed to have them waxed again.. so what do I do? I go to Scott Miller Salon. I mentioned my concerns to my waxer, and she made sure to tell me the options I had and to tell me what type of wax they used, etc. I decided to go ahead with the wax, and I couldn't have been happier with the results. My eyebrows look great, and my skin was not affected at all. It was a bit pricier than I am used to, but worth it for the results. This salon also has a nice makeup section where you can buy slightly higher end cosmetics such as NARS and Bobbi Brown. I picked up a NARS lipstick and mascara on my trip, but it is nice to just look around while waiting for your appointment also! I would recommend making an appointment, even if you decide to go last minute... I chose to come here on a whim, called ahead and was able to make an appointment right away for about an hour later. There is a Marshalls right next door, so there are options if you have some time to kill before your appointment. The decor is also very nice and gives the salon a higher end feel which is matched by the quality of its services. read more

I've been to several of the stylists here for some pretty involved haircuts, and I've never been disappointed. The atmosphere here is bustling and hip, and reminds me of some of the more upscale NYC salons I've been to. They've also got a nice cosmetics/beauty area in the front of the salon - a mini-Sephora, if you will - which is worth a browse. Overall, very recommended. read more

I have never been compelled to right a review before, much less one that is not positive. I'm a pretty tolerant and can handle most things but I've never walked out of a salon not sure what even happened. I'm from out of town and booked an appointment at Scott Miller salon in pittsford. I was so looking forward to it as I needed a color correction for my blonde hair. The girl on the phone assured me I was booked with an experienced colorist. I was excited to enter the salon as it looked really cool. I will say the makeup girls are very aggressive if you stop and look for a second. Anyway, not a big deal. I met with the colorist who I felt had a decent understanding of what I was looking to do...color correction of my base color as it has become brassy. She assured me she would blend the blonde and it would even out, even though the old color would still be there. I was hesitant but agreed. After color was ready to be washed off I was handed to a shampoo person who I instantly noticed seemed new. The person shampooed and conditioned my hair. We then made it over to the blowout area where he proceed to add several products to my hair. I asked for beach waves....even showed a picture. I wasn't getting a feeling that he knew what he was doing. Btw...my hair is straight, not that complicated. His skills at holding a blow dryer concerned me as well as what he stated to do to dry my hair. I kept stopping him and giving suggestions as I know my hair. At one point he even asked someone else for help??? He finished with my very FRIZZY beach waves which I stated I did not like. (I never complain!) so I said let me fix it. So I started to blow dry it and smooth it out. Obviously it didn't work. My hair was fried at a salon???? The colorist came back over and said to rewash it...which he did. I then returned to the chair, and asked to just straighten it. How hard could that be??? Again, I wasn't asking for the world nor have I had a bad experience at a salon. He did the best he could, but it was still frizzy. My hair is straight! I was getting more frustrated sitting there and said I would finish it. I then began to smooth it out and make it more presentable. I was able to get it much improved. As I'm doing this he walks away!! So I mention to another guy near by who I believed was a stylist for help. He was extremely nice and proceeded to reblowdry my bangs for a third time!!! What baffled me was I saw at least 2 other women leave with beach waves that looked nice. What the hell??? I played around with it and managed to smooth and correct my hair. Again, I'm pretty patient. So then I was directed to pay $175.00 for color...which was good not great. 30.00 of which was for a conditioning treatment I was NOT told was extra!!! Overall, I have no issue with paying for services that I feel are top notch. However, this experience baffled me in that I had to blow dry and style my own hair. I got the impression that it really didn't matter to them. I had such high expectations for this visit but was very disappointed in the end. Like I said, color was ok but for 140.00 I expected more blending of my blonde and toning or something? I went to the bathroom and worked on smoothing and styling it myself. As I was leaving several women said they liked my hair. Yeah, I styled it!!! So basically I walked out after spending 200.00 not pleased with service I received. I'm sure there are other salons in Rochester that would do a better job. What I could see is trendy equals subpar service. It's a busy place so they don't care. I have been going to Scott Miller in Pittsford over the past year. My colorist was Skyler. Not a fan of going to numerous people....colorist one person, cutting next, shampooing another...but it is what it is. Was happy going there, until last appt. Skyler seemed impatient and a little snippy with me when I asked what I wanted. I asked for violet lowlights and she said she could do it but 'you wouldn't see them anyway'. So I just got a root touch up, with just few highlights and a cut for $175?? are you freaken kidding me? WAY OVERPRICED. Unless you got my looking like Mariah or JLO when I walk out the door I'll pay you $200. This is why I only tip $10 cause I was not expecting the price to be so high! It wasn't that much before! Also you can only tip in cash right now. Please...you can easily add a tip to a credit card...MONEY is dirty anyways. I am now at a different place which I love. I got an overall color chocolate brown color, violet lowlights (which you can see perfectly, it's just enough:), hair cut and blowout for $145! That's more like it! I would have paid my new stylist $250 for the job she did! Very attentive, talented and what you ask for is what you get! You are not going to numerous people and can add a tip on a card, what a concept! She got a $22 tip! I do not think I will be back to Scott Miller. read more

Been going to Scott Miller since the Ryder cup days - when they were located in a house in the village of Fairport. I think it was the scalp massage during shampooing that had me hooked ;) My stylist was with Scott Miller for close to 20 years before leaving to move out of state with her family... she recommended Mary Kay, another 20+ year Scott Miller employee. It says something, in this day and age, when employees stay around for decades...does it not? I had some issues with my hair over the past couple of years and Mary Kay recommended the Cadiveau treatment - WOW!! AWESOME! The Scott Miller staff is all about customer service and making sure that their clients are satisfied. I cant' say enough about this salon! read more

I wanted my hair dyed platinum blonde, so I wanted to go to a place with a great reputation and the first few times it went really well. Of course you pay quite a bit by any standards, but for piece of mind for me it was worth the extra buck. Plus the color person I was going to I absolutely adore!! Then about 4 months in right after a color appointment, my hair started falling out! I mean a real lot, so I called there clearly concerned. The receptionist was very helpful, took my info, showed empathy and said someone would call me back within 24 hours. Within hours the general manager called and to say the least she was EXTREMELY RUDE! She told me I probably had health problems and should see my health care provider. Now I wasn't calling looking for a refund, a free handout, or to say anything negative about the colorist (I love her!!), I was just concerned and wanted to see what my next steps should be since this was the first time I had ever professionally colored my hair. But instead she insisted it wasn't the hair color and repeated 5 times I needed to see my doctor. She then said maybe its menopause...too bad I'm 25 years old!! I'm willing to pay an extra buck - but it has to come with great service. I was very disappointed to experience that type of service from up top when I needed it the most. read more

So I have never written a review before but I felt it was really necessary for the experience I had. So I am 23 and I have never done anything to my hair besides getting it cut. I had been thinking about coloring it for awhile and decided to bite the bullet and finally do it. I've always thought Scott Miller was the best salon in Rochester so I decided to call them and schedule an appointment. When I called I was super nervous and asked the receptionist to pair me with the best colorist that knows how to balayage. She told me that Cherie G. has worked there for over 10 years and that she's amazing. Going into my appointment I was excited/nervous and couldn't wait to meet my colorist. Cherie was originally nice when she walked up, but she wasn't very personable/talkative and didn't seem to care that I had virgin hair . I showed her a picture of the hair I wanted and she didn't ask too many questions or attempt to learn more about the color I was asking for, she just got to work. Being my first time getting my hair dyed, I was too nervous to ask questions as to what she was doing because she was the professional and I was a newbie. As the dying process went on I had a lot of questions but didn't feel welcomed enough to ask. I was skeptical about her process and felt like I made it obvious as to what I wanted, but Cherie did not seem to care. Before I knew it she was "done". After the stylist styled my hair, Cherie walked by and asked me if I liked it. I said "um I'm not sure" she said "well what did you expect" I nervously laughed and said "I'm not sure..." and Cherie said "well I think it looks great, have a great night" and she walked away. Personally if I were her I would have tried to understand why my client wasn't happy, but she did not seem to care about me. And that was very upsetting for my first time coloring my hair. I ended up calling back the next day because I truly hated it. The receptionist said she was more than happy to schedule an adjustment but that I would have to do it with Cherie again(which I was skeptical of). I had to wait a whole week until I could get another appointment and wore my hair up in a bun the whole time. When I got to my adjustment appointment, Cherie was annoyed to see me and was rude and SO defensive from the beginning. She did not want to hear anything I said and cut me off with every word. She seemed agitated and I was almost in tears. I waited it out to see what she could do, I even took blame for the situation because it was my first time, thinking that I did not have enough knowledge about hair to explain it what I wanted. She continued to work on my hair in complete silence with no reassurance that what I wanted was being understood. While she was washing my hair out I tried to explain to her again that I wanted more color at the ends, which from my understanding was a balayage. She rudely ignored me, did not look at the picture, and continued to work on my hair without any explanation of what she was doing. Then I went to the stylist. During this process myself and my friend noticed other employees walking by, rolling their eyes and looking at each other as if I was the problem. From across the room, my roommate could even hear Cherie complaining about me and laughing. I have never felt more unwelcome and uncomfortable. I have to admit that I have gotten a good haircut at Scott Miller in the past, but because of this experience, I will never be back. read more

I purchased a groupon here for their signature pedicure. A couple of weeks later I receive an email stating they are no longer accepting the groupons because they are so overwhelmed about the number they sold. They should have known what they were getting themselves into when deciding to provide groupons for their services, and prepared accordingly. It's taken me 6 months to be able to finally write this review not fueled by rage and overcome the shock of the services I received at this salon. I went in for highlights and a haircut at the end of January and what I walked out with was a head of chopped, burnt, frazzled hair. I'm not a hair stylist but I'm pretty sure the "colorist" bleached all the crown of my hair. I did inform her before that my usual hairstylist (who I would've kept going to, but I'm from Virginia and that's where he is located) has been getting my dark hair to blonde without bleaching it for years. I did tell her I preferred not to have it bleached, again I'm not sure if that's what she did. I do know that my hair was bright orange and the driest I have ever seen it look. When I wash my hair, I get hands full of hair falling out. This is not a problem I have ever had in my entire life. I have always had extremely thick, strong and almost oily hair. How my hair went from oily and thick to fried and falling out in less than 2 hours is terrifying to me. Then for the haircut. I did ask for a bob hairstyle and to have my hair thinned. When she thinned my hair, I have a line of hair across the back of my head with hair that was cut to about a 1/2 inch, as well as up the right side of my hair. Now after all of this, I told them my hair looked dry and was not the color I was expecting at all. I was told I would learn to like the color, and if I wanted a moisturizing treatment to make it look better it would be an additional cost. Also, I was charged extra for the flat iron after the girl who blow dried it did not blow dry it smooth even though I told her I was usually able to get my hair blow dried straight by most stylists. About a week or two later I called to tell them I really couldn't stand the color and my hair was looking very damaged. I was told that I could come in and have the color toned down for an additional fee and offered the moisturizing treatment at an additional cost, again. I was so upset and my hair was really so disgusting to me that I couldn't talk to them anymore and decided I'd be better off just never visiting this place again. On top of how terrible the services were, my appointment times were messed up and I had to wait 45 minutes in between my color and cut, so they offered me a "free" makeover at their Mac shop. It was constantly emphasized how lucky I was to get in there for free. I mean should I feel lucky that I'm getting a "free" makeup session during the 45 minutes that I was supposed to be getting my hair done?? All of these services came in at about $230. Now 6 months later I finally felt like my hair could be colored again and revisited my hair stylist in Virginia. He was pretty shocked at the state of my hair and it's been 6 months, during which I have only put heat on it less than 5 times because my hair was falling out and breaking off so rapidly. He also couldn't believe all of the short, chopped off chunks of hair all over my head. I really hope that this helps someone else from having as terrible of an experience as I had and hopefully the salon can help to better train these stylists. read more

Absolutely the worst hair color experience I have ever had. I'm new to the area so I picked here to have my hair done. I had a cut one day and a highlighting service the next, it cost around $150 for the color and $60 for the cut. Cut was fine. The highlights were few and far between, thicker and only on the top, I specifically said I like them throughout my hair, a lot of them and naturally sized and spaced. For the price I paid I have never been more disappointed. Just plain lazy. The coloring artist only puts the color in, does not wash or dry you, someone else does. This is the best salon in Rochester by far! I've been to so many other ones and they just don't stand up to this. The facility is beautiful and spacious and the service is top-notch. You never feel rushed or cramped. They have lovely magazines to look at while you're waiting for your service and they always have coffee and tea available. Even though this place is EXTREMELY expensive, it's worth every penny. I went here when I first moved to Rochester in June 2015 and they did an amazing job. My desired hair is quite difficult to attain and maintain as I bleach my whole head to a bright soft platinum blonde; it's almost white/silver or "Alien Blonde". They have specialists work on your hair individually. So I had a color specialist do my bleaching and another person razor cut my hair. It was like an all start treatment. When it was over and I looked into the mirror, I was floored by the job well done; I loved my hair! When I was about to pay I decided to get a few products to keep my hair from getting brassy looking, if it gets yellow or brassy I go insane; it has to be white, white, white! When I got to the register and they told me I owed almost $400.00 dollars I almost died. It was so expensive I almost fainted. The place in Long Island I would go to would be about $120 max, and that's with extra products... But I paid anyway and began looking for somewhere else to go. A co-worker suggested a place in Penfield, NY called Bella's and I went there the next time I needed a cut and color. The people there were great, made me feel comfortable and the best part is that it only cost me $80 bucks, buuuuttttt I HATED IT! The roots of my hair were PISS YELLOW/BROWN... It looked like pissed on hay/straw at my roots. I went back to Scott Miller a few weeks later to see if they could correct it, as now my roots are growing in and I have a weird striped, "tri-color" thing going on now. Luckily they were able to help me out! I go in this week to get a cut and color; they were even able to fit me in during a busy week as I need my hair done by Labor Day weekend. I have so many good things to say about Scott Miller that I almost can't handle writing a review. I have been going to Kathryn for my hair cut and I feel like she has helped me turn into a new woman with the style she gave me. The customer service is amazing, the women are stylish and authentically upbeat. The product lines available are amazing: Jo Malone, La Mer, Bobbi Brown, Shi Ma, Bumble and Bumble, Oribe, Smashbox, Nars, soon to be MAC (!!) etc. etc. Scott Miler salon truly wants to make everyone feel great about themselves. I am a big fan of their customer appreciation event, you can't beat beauty product samples, champagne and hors d'oeuvres. Scott Miller is a diamond in the rough of Rochester salons. I have not been to Scott Miller - but I can tell you that due to what I consider unethical customer service I would not want to do business with this salon. I purchased a Groupon for a Signature Pedicure. I called once to make an appointment, granted it was rather last minute, and there were no openings. About a week later I'm notified from Groupon "Unfortunately this business has been overwhelmed by the appointment requests for their signature pedicures. As of now, all available appointments for this deal have been filled." What this really means is they over sold the amount of spots they were willing to allot to honor these coupons. I just called and without a coupon, they could fit me in tomorrow! I've purchased many other Groupons - and I've never encountered this problem. There are many other wonderful salons out there that offer excellent customer service without being "upity"! read more

I live in the neighborhood and I have tried all the spas in the area and hands down, this is the best spa for me. I've been coming to Scott Miller for about 3 years now, and while I visit other spots here and there, I always come back to Scott Miller. The location is in a great neighborhood, parking is easy, and the building is beautiful and easy to find. The salon has great vibe, the decor is sophisticated, and everyone is very friendly. I have done everything from facials to massages to waxes here and have never been disappointed. The aestheticians are good listeners and know how to best treat your skin. I get my nails done at the spa. I prefer the intimate setting at the spa over the corner nail salons. The spa pedicure is a must especially during summer and winter months. As for my stylist, Lindsey is definitely passionate about hair and willing to listen. I recommend her to anyone who asks! What I like best is the whole comfort theme is extended through her personality - she always makes sure that I like what she does. Scott Miller is also offering Cadiveu Smoothing Treatments, and Lindsey does a marvelous job! After the treatment my hair looked amazing, still had body, and the texture was so soft and silky - just the way I wanted it. On top of all this, Lindsey is a lovely, warm, caring person. I'm happy to call her my friend. I also see Erin, Katherine and Nicole for haircuts and styling because my philosophy is that you need more than one great hairdresser. They all seem to truly love what they do, as much as making people happy. I love the Oribe and Keratase products the salon uses. It is on the expensive side, but after using these products my hair looks and feels so much better. Jacqueline and Taylor are both amazing colorists. Most importantly their work looks very natural and my hair is always in excellent condition after my color. Both are real experts and professional, I highly recommend either of them. You can't go wrong in choosing between the fabulous stylists or colorists at Scott Miller. Happiness! So comfortable and such perfectionists at work. The results are incredible and I feel fantastic! My experience here was excellent. I came here for a facial and I swear I walked out with new skin. I received the botanical facial by Kelly. She was so nice, attentive, and thorough. Not only do you receive a facial but your arms, legs, feet, and scalp get massaged. I'm pretty sure I fell asleep during the treatment. My favorite part was the extractions, lol I know that's random but Kelly made sure to cleanse my skin like no other. Afterwards you're given a prescription with what cleansers are recommended. The cleansers, lotions, and gels work great. My skin was hydrated like no other and after one of these facials less makeup is needed. I would definitely go again. read more

I am an African-American woman with long, thick, curly hair, and have been a client of Kathryn (awesome stylist) for 4 years. Today I went to the salon and found out that I would be charged twice the normal rate (~$100) for getting my hair washed, blow-dried, flat ironed, and trimmed because it takes longer to do my hair than the "typical client appointment". I will agree that it may take longer to do my hair, but not long enough to warrant double charge. The truth is I can actually do my hair in less time than they schedule me for, but sometimes I want to be treated. If I were to give a rating based on the treatment and service I get from Kathryn I would give 4-5 stars. The three star rating is simply for I what I deem to be unfair charges for "ethnic hair". read more

I just cancelled my 2nd appointment with the Scott Miller Salon in Pittsford. The cut, by Jason, was wonderful and I am sorry not to be able to go back to him. The color was substandard and although I have had my hair colored for decades, this process was unusual. Cherie, mentioned in another review, put color on all the roots and then put several foils in the top. My hair always takes a long time to process, so I was surprised to have a very young lady come up after 15 minutes and tell me she was going to wash my hair. I was very hesitant but she seemed quite certain it was okay. After my hair was washed, she called Cherie over to check it. Cherie said it was fine. The very young lady then blew me dry. That is the fatal flaw in the system: it depends on these very young people with very little experience to assess the color and finish the style. Two days later, it was very clear to me that it looked as if I hadn't done anything about my roots. I did read through the other reviews to see if I were being difficult and came across the review about Cherie being less than happy about complaining clients. For that kind of money, the color issue should not have occurred. The two stars are entirely for Jason. read more

Went here to get my hair colored from medium brown to light blonde. Front desk staff was friendly and professional, inside the studio was very clean and upscale. The thing that immediately bothered me about this salon was that it was sooooo huge (not at all the size it looks from the store front) and I felt like they were just a huge company shuttling people through with no personalization. When I met my stylist, I found this was exactly the case. She wasn't personable and just kind of did the job like I was just another client. When she first was done I liked it, but I had some staining from some hair chalk I had used, and asked her to try and get rid of it. Rather than get rid of it, she just bleached my hair more (which she should have known, as a hair coloring professional, that the bleach wouldn't get rid of the staining). So my hair looked great, except my bangs were wayyy different from the rest of my hair and were just way too light. I ended up having to go to yet another salon ((which i SHOULD NOT have had to do since Scott Miller was recommended as the best salon around the ROC area)) and had the new salon lowlight my bangs. Now they look great, but I shouldn't have had to go to a local Palmyra salon to get it right when I was going to such an upscale place. Then I got a massage, and it was absolutely perfect. Best massage I've had (don't have lots of massage experience but it was really really good nonetheless). The masseuse was very personable and made sure to talk to me throughout so I could direct her on what was good. I would recommend getting a massage from here as the individual masseuses are great, but the rest of the salon is simply an impersonal company that just shuttles everyone through as quick as they can. The people working at Scott Miller are highly, highly trained and continue regular training with the best people in the business. Colorists know precisely what they're doing and listen to exactly what you want. The stylists are the same way, makeup artists, estheticians, massage therapists, etc. Though it's more money than other places in town, you get more than what you pay for. Everyone is nice and friendly, and want you to have the best experience and offer the best products and services. SM Salon & Spa is the only thing I miss about living in Rochester. The staff at Scott Miller are leaps and bounds above other salons I've experienced in regard to professionalism, attention to detail, and quality of work they produce. I found myself in the unfortunate predicament of needing my hair fixed after a terrible cut and color disaster at a different local salon. Mya took a hack job cut, and somehow worked her magic so that I was able to wear my hair down without embarrassment, and had been a champion in helping me throughout the growing process over the past year. Liz was able to tone my color, and brought me back to a much more natural look and I'm just so happy with her talent. Appointment scheduling is so easy and the girls at the desk are always so pleasant. I will never go anywhere else for my services. AMAZING customer service . My experiences there have always been anything but ordinary. Every staff member is not only friendly but so so SO knowledgeable about their products and services . If you're looking to buy MAC products I definitely suggest asking for Morgan. She helped me find everything I was looking for and more ! I have never been able to find a lipgloss that I was crazy about and gave up on using any products for my lips. Within 5 min she had given me a lip scrub and a lipgloss color I absolutely LOVED. I want to like Scott Miller more than I do because he's a local institution but I have often gotten the haircut du jour without any sensitivity to my age, face shape or style. About 30% of the time I have gotten bad haircuts and this is over many years time. Colorist Lisa is why I come back - she's very skilled and a real artist. Scott Miller is so overpriced I have palpitations when I see the bill. Except for Lisa, it's definitely not worth it. Except for the color I get my hair cut somewhere else now. read more
