The lady upfront is always nice and courteous. Placing my order requests, fulfillment and payment transaction took as little as 5-10 minutes, give or take some wait time if any. The patties are absolutely delicious and I highly recommend the spinach and cheese. I was not a fan or of the cocobite though but that's not to say it wasn't good. It just wasn't my preference. I went there thinking this is a Jamaican restaurant. But this is a Jamaican bakery. So no jerk chicken or goat curry. They have excellent coco bread. Beef patty with coco bread is the best thing here. Chicken patty is good as well. Carrot juice was an excellent drink. Irish moss was a bit bitter. Milk Hardo bread is a nice soft bread, but it is really dense. Coconut drops was pieces of coconut in brown sugar and ginger. Spice bun and jamaican black cake was good as well. read more

I honestly wasn't expecting the food to be as good as it was because, i'm very picky when it comes to Jamaican food. The beef patty with coco bread was incredibly fresh. You can tell it was made same day. The coco bread was so chewy and smelt incredibly sweet. It paired perfectly with the flakey beef patty. I also got the jerk chicken meal. It comes with a choice of rice and peas or white rice. Then cabbage. The rice was made perfectly and you could taste the coconut milk. The jerk chicken wasn't scotch bonnet spicy but it was still super flavorful. I appreciated that the chicken wasn't dry at all. Cabbage can usually be over cooked and soggy but this one was crispy and paired great with the meal. If you get the jerk sauce on the side it has tons of flavor, but everything was perfect as is! I'll definitely be ordering there more often when I need my Jamaican food fix. read more

While Scott's is a gem in the Caribbean community, I'd be remised if I didn't mention their lack of professionalism or etiquette towards patrons. It always feel as though you're a burden to them when you visit their location. There has to be some improvement and accountability on their end. Plus, their patties are significantly more expensive than other places. Also, not sure if the owners are aware, but each year at the fair in Wallingford, there are people who rent a booth and sell their patties. I'm sure these folks buy it wholesale from them but it just seems off to me as those people are not in the black community and seem to be profiting off the back end of Scott's. As an officer at one of our local airports I have done many bag checks. My favorite ones however are the ones where I get a sniff of Scott's bread. I know that smell so well, that before I even open the bag based on what I am seeing on the screen and my experience, I ask the passenger if they have Scott's bread? and suddenly you hear hysterical laughter in the checkpoint. So I made it a point to stop in at the bakery and see if it is as great as it smells. I didn't come in here like a typical white girl with a finger pointing to one item. I came in and spoke to every person in line asking questions what to order and who likes what. We the customers were all chatting, one lady told me the milk bread is their staple. Another guy in line said get the beef or chicken patty but you must put it inside the bread to eat it he said. Woman behind me said get rum cake and carrot juice, but I also love cinnamon bun. I bought all of those things for just $20. I left this bakery so happy because everybody was so welcoming and kind. As soon as I got into my car I placed my Patty inside the bread and took a bite. I found myself in heaven, Scott's heaven that is. So well seasoned, with just the right amount of spicy, and not dry like I thought it would be. On my way home I stoped at BestBuy in Avon to buy a new TV and told the man helping me. While he was loading my TV in I took my milk bread and asked him to take a good size piece. He said I never broke bread with a customer. See there is always a first. I am on my way home and I cannot wait to cut into the milk and cinnamon bread. Sheepish, I had to admit I've been in Hartford for a long time and I had never visited in person. I've had some food catered by there (and really enjoyed it), but honestly, the outside of the place seemed a little intimidating and foreboding. I won't pretend that its gorgeous on the inside. It's a very functional space. A list of items and some fridges and some helpful people at the front counter. But boy that beef patty was pretty pretty good. Warm and spicy, it wasn't too doughy. I was in Jamaica this past Christmas and wow Scott's Jamaican Bakery makes beef patties that were as good as those found in Jamaica. They taste very similar to the ones I had in Jamaica but not as spicy. Scott's delivers their patties to many of the other bakeries in town (per my co-worker). If you never had one of their beef patties you should give them a try. Be prepared for some grease to soak through but its so worth it. It's cheap fast food but very tasty. I'm not a fan of beef but the veggie patties just aren't perfect. I occasionally order a veggie but find that its not the same and end up eating my BF's beef patties. I work in the North End so the neighborhood doesn't bother me too much. They have a lot by the bakery. It's a quick in and out. I If you're scared to venture into the neighborhood head there during the day. The staff was friendly and each time I've been in I've never feared for my life. This location does run out fast. I find sometimes if you go there a little later they start running out of food. I save Scott's for my broke and tired without a lunch days. For under $3 you can get a meal that will hold you. I love it here and have been eating here for almost 20 years, starting when I was at Uconn Law. Whenever we pass by, I have to stop in. I used to get my Jamaican fix a lot more when I worked in Bloomfield and Hartford and definitely miss it. Scott's is one of my favorites. Came to CT and had to stop by here for old times sake. Bought 2 patties and 2 coco breads and was charged $7.00. I asked for the receipt and she rang up 2 separate receipts which was strange, since she didn't want to give me the receipt that she rang up the first time. Finally made it to Scott's... a week after returning FROM JAMAICA no less. I was worried that the food here may not be quite as good as the food i had just had on the island itself, but oh wow was i wrong! We stopped and grabbed a quick lunch after running errands. We got beef patties that were soooo flavorful. The best part besides the perfectly mix of spices and beef? The price. $2 a piece, no joke. And they are huge. As good as the beef pattys were, somehow the cocobread was even better. ($1!!!!) We got it while it was still warm and it is a perfect consistancy. A chewy, , soft, dense, sweet bread. It almost melts in your mouth. Ive never really felt that way about bread- haha! they also have a bakery full of all kind of fresh made breads, after the cocobread, i wanted to try them all. Next on my list is the raisin bread. If you like jamaican food, i would definitely recommend this place. Its so quick and easy to just walk in and $3 later come out with food that wil leave you stuffed. Its pretty much carry out only and they have a $5 debit card minumum.
