They did a major renovation a few years back and what a difference. This is 20's flapper-chic meets British comfort food. Nighttime is the righttime. Menu is fun (reminiscent of J. Sheekey) - quality fish and game with old English standards. Very sceney and pricey - but not as horrific as Cipriani - altogether a good night out. Unfortunately, you have to be a regular to get a good table, as you are competing with serious power diners and some hefty expense-accounts. whether you're looking for a fresh, sautéed filet of seabass or would rather kick back a dozen oysters, scott's is the place to go for all things seafood in london. upon visiting, you'll first fall in love with the neighborhood. it's nestled on an expressive little street in mayfair so you feel a bit like you've been swept away from the hustle and bustle of central london. you'll also smile when the polite chap at the door greets you and welcomes you to the restaurant. as we hadn't made reservations ahead of time, (you'll definitely want to reserve a table in advance) we tried our luck at nabbing two seats at the bar. lucky for us, 4 o'clock was pretty slow and we were sipping prosecco in no time. we started off with olives, almonds and of all things, pork rinds. i'm sure they have a fancier name than pork rinds but for all intents and purposes, we were snacking on deliciously salty, super fried pork bits and were quite happy to do so! after perusing the menu, we decided to have ceviche first. my mother-in-law makes the most delicious ceviche ever so i'm a bit of a snob when it comes to this dish. scott's did it right though; just fresh lime juice, olive oil and a bit of diced red pepper for color and texture. it was topped with fried plantains that doubled as scoops. moving along to the mains. not that my husband's seabass in lemon butter sauce wasn't delicious. it was phenomenal but i think my lobster and avocado salad took the cake. there's really nothing richer and more decadant than huge hunks of lobster lightly dressed, tossed with small bits of grapefruit and slivers of endive. the salad looks petit in the picture but i assure you, your palette will be quite satiated once you're through. for us americans, the conversion rate from dollars to pounds doesn't do you any favors when you go to pay the bill here but if you want to treat yourself to a sophisticated seafood experience, be sure to check out scott's! read more

Amazing service from the moment you arrive at the front door! We were walking around this upscale part of London and asked a random couple for a good place to eat. They immediately said "Scott's! It's probably the best restaurant of London". We were sold. I was still in my "travel outfit" and a bit embarrassed to go in to this nice looking restaurant in bright blue tennis shoes, but the gentleman at the door was very kind and said "the staff has a dress code here, not our guests." So we went on it and despite being a busy Saturday night we got seated quickly. The waiter was attentive and very nice, and the lobster spaghetti was delicious! Lobster in every bite. And the outdoor patio seating topped it off! If you're looking for a nice place to enjoy good seafood, this is the place to be. read more

The service was terrific from the confirmation call of the reservation to the person who offered to check my bag to the entire staff and management. The table and chairs were comfortable and I was grateful to see how respectful the staff were not to interrupt a conversation. I enjoyed the Dover sole and my companion enjoyed the grilled prawns -- both were very good but nothing remarkable. This is more of an every day restaurant than the hype and prices suggest. Just popped into Scott's around 9pm on a Monday. Bar was popping. Bartender was adorable, excellent martinis, nice can-do attitude. All of this = big thumbs up. Oh and did I mention, we sat a couple tables down from SIR ELTON JOHN. Note to famous folks - you are in good hands here. Decorum rules at Scott's. I felt super taken care of and my pal Elton looked all smiles in the back corner. Pedestrian = happy. Rock star = happy. Buyer beware - the plateau la mer is ENORMOUS. Order for one, graze over with cocktails for three. This spot and J. Sheekey (two words - FISH PIE) have been my fav's this trip. yum. read more

upon walking into the restaurant, i couldn't figure out why the place was rated anything less than 5 stars if they really did have great seafood. -and they really do have fantastic seafood, quality fish and prepared true to how fish should be prepared. oysters were delightful and paired well with the chablis. sea bass was one of the best i ever had. it was strange because my halibut was a huge fillet while the sea bass was super thin. but size isn't everything...right? in all serious, among the 4 of us we each had different fish and each was delicious. they also have a full bar with less common whiskys so that was fun, too. so we have come up with our own reason why it's a 4 star restaurant because when it comes to food, it's superb and we're definitely going back. we think it's 4 star because of the librarian hostess. for being such a nice restaurant, we expected better service and word choice is critical. we arrived for our reservations early so we could have a little private moment over a drink. we asked the hostess if there was availability at the bar (which was empty) and she immediately replied, "we're not a fully licensed bar so you'll have to get something to eat." to which my husband replied, "well, we have reservations at Xpm." and she said, "oh, you didn't tell me that. yes, please, go right ahead." WHAT a couple other things she said were a bit curt. separately, the drink server didn't understand her menu/specials. although, our server knew every little amazing detail about the menu and drinks. -probably the best person to ask concerning pairings, too. we were wondering how the paparazzi found out our location...turns out they were waiting for tony blair and russell brand. read more

Close your eyes and let's pretend that the UK was not suffering the worst economic crisis seen, as some say, in 60 or so years - or better yet, that I was born with a trust fund or my last name was Gates or Mittal or something of the sort. OK, so Scott's isn't THAT expensive, and in fact, there are more than a handful of pricier options in London (Royal Hospital Road, Gavroche, Petrus, to name a few). But at the end of the day, Scott's is basically a simple seafood restaurant that happens to deliver some of the most delicious and exquisite food in London. I just can't give it 5 stars today because the restaurant is not 1) utterly charming or 2) a place where you feel like you've had the meal of your dreams. A recently resurrected offering from king restauranteurs Chris Corbin and Jeremy King (of the Ivy, J Sheekey, Caprice etc etc), Scott's is now one of the top celebrity destinations in London. The huge, curving, wood and marble bar is gorgeous - highlighted by a 3-metre-long crustacea display, it is the perfect spot to indulge in oysters and champagne and deserves 5 stars alone. The restaurant itself, while a bit too bright for my liking, is all wood, mirrors and leather. Simple but luxurious. Eveything I've eaten here has been fantastic - the oysters, the dover sole (at £32, ouch!), a buttery piece of veal... Desserts are quintessentially British and so sweet that two bites do the trick. I do wish Scott's were a tad cheaper - then I could go more frequently and really grow to love it. read more

My first time back here in thirty years and although Scott's had gone through a couple of different owners and iterations it's still a very good fish restaurant. It was packed last Monday night, in spite of the rain and R. and I both had grilled Dublin Bay prawns to start with. I had grilled monkfish with a tomato and basil salad and R. had grilled scallops with a side of spinach. Perfectly cooked and presented with a basked of lovely mixed breads that are worth remarking on. That and a couple of glasses of chablis. Pretty simple and well executed which seems to be the new English way and also rather expensive. read more

This is my favorite restaurant in town. I love it. The service is fantastic and the food is second to none. The oyster bar is great when you're just out with friends, very laid back and proper Colchester oysters - amongst a wider selection.The restaurant is fabulous for a good night out. They do a great monkfish, and their wine list is spectacular - I had the most amazing Meursault when I went Thursday, and I wish I'd have asked for the label. They have the most amazing art collection in there too. It's expensive, but well worth it. I go to J Sheekey a lot too, but out of both of them I think you get more value for money here. I've been lucky enough to eat in here twice for lunch in the past few months courtesy of my boss! Wow, what an atmosphere.you feel like you are a part of something very special when you eat here. It's busy and buzzing and the staff attend to your every need. Luckily I didn't pay but I think our bill for 4 people came to aproximately £500 including some very lovely wine, champagne and oysters! I went for fish first time and took a lemon sole and the second time I think I took pork - both lovely. If you are rich or if you have a rich boyfriend/girlfriend/boss or a special occasion to celebrate, experience this, you'll be very impressed just dont cry when the bill comes. read more

While dinner and drinks were impeccable, the experience was completely spoiled by the tacky and tasteless cover charge of £2 per person. The meal was already £600 and then we were slapped in the face with this unexplained charge. This isn't a strip club where a cover charge is a normal occurrence but this tactic brought the restaurant to that base level. Good seafood. Sardine starter excellent. Seabream main very good. However, the grilled dover sole was a disappointment. underflavoured & a bit rubbery. Sides of chips, green salad and spinach were fine. But nothing amazing. The atmosphere in here is non existent. The majority of diners seemed very old. This is a stuffy restaurant. The staff were ridiculous. Carrying bundles of dirty linen across the restaurant, as if dealing with their weekly laundry! They argued amongst themselves right next to the diners. One waiter carried a chair on his head across the restaurant! We felt the service was very obtrusive, yet our breadcrumb filled table was not cleared up till after the mains (they do not provide bread plates for some inexplicable reason!). The highlight of the meal was the chocolate souffle with pistachio ice cream. Spot on. Given the amount of top restaurants in london, we will not be dining here again! read more

I gave this place a shot after reading some good reviews here. I was aiming for good and fresh seafood. I had the monkfish and snails as my starter/appetizer and sea bass as my main dish. I was disappointed. The monkfish itself was good but the sauce they mixed with it was too salty. The sea bass was one of their most expensive dish in the entree list. It came only with the fish. A lot of oil was used to pan fry it and it was too salty as well. I like strong flavor but this was definitely overdone. Overall, it was not easy to find a seafood restaurant with good reviews in London. I went to J Sheeky as well. I guess seafood is not London's strengths in general. read more

Dined at Scott's for lunch as we were unable to book a dinner reservation. Lunch was terrific! After an appetizer of delicious oysters, we enjoyed the Dover Sole for two which was perfectly prepared. I've now been to Scott's on three occasions over the past 18 months, twice for dinner and once for lunch. I remain puzzled, not by the accolades - indeed, negative reviews appear quite regularly - but by the fact that enthusiastic reviews exist at all. The restaurant is certainly interesting. It is venerable in the sense that it has been around for over a century, albeit with a change in location to Mount Street many years ago, and the food is generally good with some dishes exceptional, most passable, and a few awful. It is also a "scene" in the sense that it is an agglomeration of social pretenders mixed with the odd celebrity. Décor was somewhat ordinary, but tasteful. My problem with Scott's is a problem with attitude. From the proprietor to the service staff, there seems to be a veiled conceit, a hard-to-justify "we are it" mentality that is both off-putting and unwelcoming. Our attractive hostess, and they are all attractive, managed to simultaneously embody the rather dissimilar traits of being bewildered and indifferent at the same time. A forced smile concealing an otherwise wooden persona, she, without comment or eye contact, paraded us past the bar, paused as if to park us there temporarily, then continued to survey a field of mostly empty (7 PM Friday - it filled up later) tables as she tried to determine where best we, two couples with a longstanding reservation, could be seated without unduly compromising a supply of good tables should a celebrity appear - seating triage at its most obvious. On seating us she hurried silently away, giving rise to a 10 minute interval of no service at all. Our waiter then arrived with menus and brusquely handed them out. He dispelled any suspicion that he might be mute when he asked whether we wanted still or sparking water. We requested both. We would have ordered an aperitif had the request for water not absolved the waiter of any further obligation to remain at our table. We mistakenly assumed he would re-appear and, after another 10 minutes, we flagged down another waiter and requested a glass of champagne and two glasses of dry white wine. At this point it was clear that dearth of dialogue promised that a choice of white wine was not going to be in the cards. The arrival of our drinks, after about 5 minutes, was signaled by the muffled thump of glasses being hurriedly deposited on our table. Things did not improve as the evening wore on. The waiter came and took our orders, but left before the prospect of a wine order could be discussed. In the wake of more discrete signalling, we managed to order a 2014 Crozes-Hermitage 'Les Trois Chenes,' a libation that acquitted itself better than almost anything else experienced at Scott's that evening. And so it is that I remain puzzled. How is it that restaurants of this ilk get away with it, especially when costs regularly exceed £100 a head? Whatever laurels upon which Scott's fame might have rested, faded at least a generation ago. Perhaps it's a case of "shame on me" for having gone there 3 times in the past 18 months, a pathology that would have suggested latent masochism were it not for the fact that my wife and another couple nobly concurred that "giving them a fair chance" was the least we could do. We did give Scott's the chance and they responded by validating impressions formed on my first visit - bad. read more
