Our brunch took seemingly forever (45min?) to arrive with no acknowledgement from the service staff of it taking an inordinate amount of time. Food was okay but nothing to brag up. Scotty's Table is my most favorite restaurant in all of Montana. Their selection always centers on the freshest, most delectable foods. I have had several different dishes but loved their Cioppino and their Rib eye. Their scallop appetizer with beet hashbrowns is to die for. If you are looking for a intimate restaurant with a city feel then this is the place for you! They also have an outstanding wine selection and give you colored pencils to draw on the tablecloth! read more

An unexpected gem. We were driving from Seattle to Big Sky and stayed overnight in Missoula. The front desk clerk recommended Scotty's. We weren't sure what to expect but we were very impressed by the inventiveness of the menu, flavor, and service. The waitress was very nice even though we had two cranky kids in tow. Magically I was just in Missoula from SF. Surprise. On Thursday the lunch special was the goat cheese tagliatelle w/ wild mushrooms. Now, I only was able to snag a few bites from my grammy and mom, however what I had was amazing. The tomato soup was also on point. Not to be a food snob and all, yet coming from SF I have not always had the best culinary experiences in Missoula, as 4B's use to be as swanky as it gets. Yet Scotty's my hats off to you. This is a great dinner place! If you are worried about the cost, have no fear. My family ordered a cheese plate and two burgers between the three of us, but we probably could have just shared the cheese plate, it was so big and filling, and delicious at that! The burgers were slightly undercooked for a well-done order, but the cheese plate was divine. So less well-off students could come here and share a meal and be completely satisfied. Great atmosphere and customer service, and a lovely venue below the bridge on Higgins. We will definitely be coming here many times again! read more

Amazing food. I've eaten here with friends as well as on a dates with my husband numerous times. Great atmosphere, upscale and modern but also hip and fun. I like the option to sit at the bar or at the more casual tables near the front if we are catching a movie upstairs afterwards. There weren't many people there yet since we arrived around 9:30 am on a Sunday. We waited a while for the server to finally take our order, granted she said she would give us a few minutes I just didn't realize it would be that long. We order at 9:45, 45 minutes after they've opened. 9....45....AM....and we are told they sold out of their chicken and waffle sandwich already. A whole 45 minutes after opening. Ok. Fine. We order the cerdo con verde since the photos on here look good. Also some potatoes, coffees, and bacon. The bacon was the only good thing we got. We got maybe a tablespoon of mole on our entire plate, no other sauce was on there. The eggs still had the clear gooey stuff still hanging on it. Now my daughter loves runny eggs, but not the clear membranes all gooey and nasty. The pork had zero flavor, and polenta cake was too thick so it wasnt cooked all the way through, and the potatoes...good lord it was like eating a spoon of lawrys seasoning with potato flavoring. We ate most of it since its a $30 meal. Im not the type to waste food, but i am the type to not return. Our server checked on us once during our entire brunch. At the end another server had to ask us how we were doing and took our plates away. She also had to give us the check. Our server still had not shown up. I put the money in the holder waiting for my change for a while. She finally shows up and takes it to get me my change. The bill was $29.50, and I paid with $100 bill. She gives me back $70. Is that what I am actually owed? No. I pride myself on tipping very, very well. I have been known to tip 50%+ if the service is outstanding. But she took my 50 cents without asking. I would have understood if they didn't have the change. I would have understood if she had told me. I would have told her to go ahead and keep it and then tipped her even though she checked on us once. But since she decided to keep money that was not hers, then leave without mentioning it to me, her tip was that 50 cents and I told her as much on the receipt. I've been to brunch one other time here and it was good, loud but good. I've been to dinner here and it has been outstanding. So I think I will give dinner here another chance, but completely avoid brunch. This plave needs to learn to season correctly, learn to count change, and learn to take care of their own tables so that others do not have to. If i could have tipped the other server I would have, she was nice and helped when needed. read more

We were in Missoula for a night and had an excellent meal. The beet appetizer, the garden salad, the Saba noodle salad, and the mussels were all home runs. I can't say there is a better moules frites dish in my home city of San Francisco which either says something about Scotty's Table or about San Francisco. We went to Scotty's Table for dinner this past weekend. We made a reservation in case there was high demand due to the film festival in town, but there seemed to be plenty of room for walk-ins even at 7pm on a Saturday night. Overall the dinner was fine - not great, not bad, but fine. Service was slow, but it seemed to be part of their intentional ambiance to have a leisurely meal. The beer and wine menu was strong, with a good mix of local and high-quality offerings. I liked the simplicity of the dinner menu. Despite being rather far from a coast, there was a lot of seafood available. The appetizers were most appealing and seemed to be the strongest point. Out of a salad, an appetizer, and two entrees, the scallops appetizer was by far the most delicious. Aside from that dish, nothing else (chicken, pasta palermo) seemed worth the price. Were the entrees in the $15-$20 range, this rating would be higher, but for what you pay the food doesn't meet the mark. I know Missoula is a small town, but I've had less expensive meals here with more flavor and creativity that cost half of what Scotty's Table charges and that would hold up in bigger yet similar cities (Portland, Austin). What really brought this down to a 2-star review though was finding a large chunk of paper in the Caesar salad. Not sure what it was or where it came from. The waiter was apologetic, and brought out a fresh salad promptly, but there was no additional mention of it throughout evening. From a restaurant like that I would have expected that dish to be removed from the bill, received complimentary dessert, or some other action to make amends. Although there aren't many fine dining options available in Missoula, we won't be returning there. read more

I am a foodie.. There, I said it! And this place made my little foodie heart happy! I had the NY strip with the kale (OMG) and the fried risotto, (So, SO very good!) and two glasses of a luxurious French Bordeaux. Yes, it was spendy, but the food and the wonderful atmosphere was worth it! And my server was a doll! Right there when my steak was delivered, perfectly cooked medium rare, and right there when I asked for a second glass of wine. Cheerful, prompt and cute as a bug! Anyone who says the steak was chewy asked them to overlook it. Simply melt in your mouth delicious! You gotta try this place!! read more

This was the BEST breakfast/brunch I have ever had. I ordered the Cerdo con Mole. The intent was to share with my husband - The flavors of the black beans, eggs, polenta, salsa, avocado, pork and mole' was outstanding. I shared this one time. I won't again. Service was great, food divine, company perfect, and for dessert we tried the Birdman bread with cinnamon, chocolate, and walnuts. Perfect. Valentine's Day: I ordered the same breakfast and it was the worst breakfast I've ever tried to eat. Go figure. There was no flavor and the eggs tasted like water. The latte was cold. No thanks. We went to Scotty's Table on Sun 15 May at approximately a few minutes after 12:00. The hostess sat us fairly quickly and was very friendly. She said that Jess would be right with us. From the time we sat down things went down hill from there. Our waitress whom I will assume was Jess T since that is the name on our receipt. She walked by our table numerous times w/o once acknowledging us. It was somewhere around the seventeen minute mark that Jess finally came to our table and acknowledged us. At this point we had a couple of questions that she answered one which was they were out of Benedict's. She left while my wife looked for another item to order. At this point it was perhaps another five minutes before she returned and took our order. When we were first seated she should have known she was not handling the tables she had and should have informed her manager of that so they could have lent her a hand. I ordered the CFS. It was made in house which was the reason we were there. It was prepared satisfactorily but it and the gravy were not very satisfying taste wise. It wasn't bad it just wasn't anything crazy good. As for the potatoes that came with it they were a joke. They looked like the ones you would get at Perkins. They were neither pan grill fried. They looked like they were came frozen with a chemically added brown to them. My wife ordered the Cerdo which states it is done Confit. Typically this means cooking at temps below 200 degrees in the fat of the type of meat being cooked long and slow and then perhaps crisped up at the end. This Cerdo that was served to my wife was bone dry and looked and tasted like it was boiled. The Mole was flavorless. Being that my wife is too nice she didn't want to return it as she was just ready to leave. We have eaten here in the past around 4-6 times and have always had great food and service. This was the first time at Scotty's that for the most part the whole experience was not worth the time unfortunately. read more

Local food is something very important- especially beef when you live in cattle country and don't want to support cattle being raised in Montana and then leaving the state to be "finished" (in more ways than one)- so I appreciate that they serve local beef. Beyond the quality of their meat and fish, their sauces are always perfect. The atmosphere is lovely, service is great. Lunch is really great here too. Highly recommend. read more

Excellent food and service. We stopped in for a late lunch, early dinner & ate outside. Our server was helpful and friendly, everyone had a glass of wine, hamburgers and shared the Mezza appetizer. The appetizer consisted of pita bread with a delicious Danish blue cheese mousse...yum, some peach chutney, feta, hummus, olive tapenade. Another Missoula restaurant that charges tons of money with the promise of creative cuisine and an upscale experience. It wasn't an overly busy evening but two waiters for 14 tables was a bit of a problem. Service wasn't bad, there just wasn't any service. The menu had the expected use of odd ingredients and fancy dishes. Mushrooms on everything it seemed, which my husband complained about. At the end of the evening, we paid $114 for two meals, one appetizer, one salad (which was especially tasty btw) and water to drink. For that amount of money I would expect far better service and food. Anything over $100 for no alcohol for two people means the expectations are noticeably higher, and in this case they were not met. read more

We had a very nice dinner here recently to celebrate a friend's birthday. The patio seating is lovely, and it was great for enjoying the beautiful weather on a comfortable Sept. evening. The menu offers an eclectic mix of modern American dishes. For starters, we had a scallop dish, a lentil salad, and arancini (fried risotto balls). For entrees, I got the cioppino (seafood stew), which was excellent, and my companions got the pasta bolognese and the vegetable polenta. Everything was very good, although my friend who got the bolognese noted that, while the meat and sauce were very good and warm, the pasta underneath was cold in the center as if it had been sitting for a while and wasn't properly warmed up for serving. For a top notch restaurant with prices that are not inexpensive, that sort of thing shouldn't happen. Overall, though, it was a good meal. The wine list was notable in that it included a number of nice, reasonably-priced options in the $30-$40 range. Also, our server was excellent -- friendly, attentive, and professional. I wish I remembered her name to give her proper credit. They also gave us some very nice chocolate truffles, gratis, at the end of the meal (with a birthday candle to acknowledge the special occasion). read more

While I appreciate that Montana is not the epicenter of cuisine, I have to disagree with the "rave" reviews posted before mine. I suppose this little restaurant is nice for Missoula, but for those looking for a dining "experience," best not to spend your money here. The restaurant itself is quasi quaint with floors in desperate need of refinishing (i.e. they are filthy), and the staff is friendly while clearly inexperienced. The food lacks finesse and the dishes are fairly unimaginative for modern cuisine. The shellfish served was no doubt the result of a slow week with the distinct flavor of old seafood. Even colored pencils can't erase that taste. If you must dine in Missoula, you'll have better luck at the bars or over an open fire on the Clark Fork. read more

Not quite there. Food was great, service was ok, and the setting left a bit to be desired. I'm sorry, but I just can't get over the paper and colored pencils on the table. It is hard for me to view this as a nice restaurant when I can color while I eat. They didn't even have cream for the coffee, just milk.
