I'm filling this part out two weeks after I posted pictures, but we were very impressed with the whole dining experience - from the young man who showed us our table, to the server and the management who checked on us to make sure things were to our satisfaction. It was one of the most memorable meals we have had in a long time. I cannot recommend this place too highly. We will be back. This place could've potentially been one of my favs in the Decatur location. It has one of the most welcoming and beautiful outdoor patio with a wonderful, radiant decor. The interior design is top-notch as well. However, what use is all this when the food comes out undercooked? When I ordered the Carolina Glazed Roasted Chicken, it came out phenomenal for presentation. Everything went downhill after I decided to knife the chicken meat; the inside was not cooked at all. Although the waiter was very apologetic and polite regarding this issue, the thought of an under-cooked meal did not have a goof first impression of the restaurant for me. The pricing for dinner plates range from $20-30 w/ a delicious selection of wine w/ a glass averaging at a fair price at $8. I doubt I will be giving Scout another shot anytime soon, but hopefully the next time will be much better. read more

I've been to Scout several times for dinner, but today was the first time I had brunch here. Let me tell you - it did not disappoint! I live about a mile away from the restaurant and I made a reservation for brunch since my mom was in town visiting. I was surprised that they weren't busier, but it's also St. Patrick's day weekend. Everyone enjoyed their food. The blueberry ricotta pancakes are huge and light and fluffy. I had "the western" bowl and substituted potatoes for bacon. The avocado creams is delicious. I've walked/driven/run past Scout dozens of times and looked longingly at their adorable little patio with the lights and tonight I finally decided to try it...I had high hopes, maybe too high because I was severely disappointed. 1. The hostess was sweet but seemed kind of clueless....she saw us looking lost trying to figure out where to put our name in, said hello, then just walked away. We finally had to ask where the hostess was and it was her. I then had to ask her if she wanted my name and she was like, "Oh yeah!" 2. The patio met my expectations...super cute, like that it's elevated, liked the lights, nice and open and not too loud so you can actually hear the people you're with. I would give the atmosphere 4 stars. 3. The food....ranged from decent, to mediocre...to down right inedible. The Bertie and pork belly was decent (not great), the avocado eggs were mediocre at best, and the Atlantic salmon was absolutely terrible. 4. Finally the service, started out okay, food came out in a reasonable time but then our server seemed to have gotten sucked into a black hole or lost in a labyrinth somewhere. She would stop and help the tables closest to the kitchen but never made it to her tables in the back....we could over hear table next to us loudly complaining about the lack of service and bad food too. In summary...will definitely never go back...not even for the adorable patio. read more

Scout is a great addition to the restaurant offerings in Oakhurst and has one of the best bartenders in Atlanta (Nate). We've now been 3 times and each time have had a near flawless experience with amazing food and service. For us it falls in to the "Special occasion" price range, but the drinks are on-par with most bars and we find ourselves going in for drinks even if we are not staying for dinner. read more

Ate here for the first time last night. I'd been here for drinks, but not for a meal. Drinks have always been awesome - after this, that's all I'll ever get there again. We started off with the "hot pimento cheese dip". The bowl was piping hot. The dip? Not even close. We were able to at least get it to 'warm' by stirring it around in the lava-hot dish, so there's that. Oh, and they supplied us with about 6 saltine crackers to go with the dip. Really?! I guess we were supposed to spoon it into our mouths once we'd eaten our meager allotment of saltines? Wife ordered the $25 "5 hour flat-iron steak", and specifically ordered the meat to be cooked to medium. When it came, it may have still been able to moo. It was pretty much raw. The outside of the steak was seared nicely. The inside was rarer than rare. She did not finish it. Her fries were supposed to be covered with a blue cheese aoili, and I guess technically - the aoili was applied. I think we counted 6-7 drips of it on the fries. I guess this stuff is as treasured as the saltines? My dinner was a $19 spare-rib concoction (it was titled 9 hour something or other...), ordered from the "Chef's Camp" part of the menu. Where to begin here... Well, what came to me was a 4"x4"x4" cube of meat. Didn't look, or taste like any spare ribs I've ever had. It may not have even been meat. All taste and texture had been eliminated. It had been cooked to the consistency (and appearance) of a hockey puck with nary a shade of pink to be found. Tough does not begin to describe it. The sauce covering it was delicious and was largely the reason I could even swallow it. I ate about 1/3rd of it and called it off because cutting it was more like work than it should have been. It came with a side of baked beans which were cooked by the same person that handled the pimento cheese dip: the bowl was the temperature of the sun. The beans were lukewarm. It was also served with a side of greens, which I think were collards with ham. This was delicious - zero complaints! It was even hot!!! Our server was pleasant, the restaurant is gorgeous, and they have Tropicalia on draft - with is amazingly great. After the disastrous meal, we were comp'd my wife's raw steak, which was nice, but it never should have happened to begin with. Yummm! I had the mushroom omelette and blueberry ricotta pancakes (to share obviously). Everything was sooooo good!! Ingredients were fresh, well seasoned and perfectly cooked. The only negative comment I have is that the coffee smelled better than it tasted but it wasn't bad- just have had way better. read more

I'm giving this 4 stars even though one of our entrees was less than stellar, and by less-than-stellar, I mean inedible. I'll start from the beginning. Today is Mother's Day and we didn't realize they were serving by reservation only. The place was packed, but the bar was empty so we sat at the bar. The bartender was very nice and personable. The bar was exquisite. We started with a mimosa and a bloody mary which were probably the best we've ever had. We continued with two appetizers avocado deviled eggs and muscles. The deviled eggs were superb. The muscles were out of this world! I wanted to lick my plate and drink the tomato bisque broth from the bottom of the bowl. I've never had muscles like that in my life! For entrees, my partner chose the beef brisket with poached eggs and potatoes. I had the pork tenderloin with sweet potato spoon bread and a pineapple salsa. The pork tenderloin plate was excellent and beautifully served. The brisket on the other hand was horrific. The brisket sat out for too long and was crusty and very tough. There was no moisture at all. The potatoes were so hard if you threw them that someone's head they would have certainly gotten a concussion. The poached eggs were the only thing edible in the dish. Granted, it was Mother's Day, and the bartender was so busy he's probably going to need a vacation after the day is over.... That being said, it was nearly impossible to get refills on our drinks and we waited for 20 minutes to get his attention to get salt and pepper. Again, it wasn't his fault. We sat at the bar on the busiest day imaginable. We will definitely be back. The atmosphere was second to none. The service was friendly and would probably be superb if it wasn't such a busy morning. I do have to caution you; do not get the beef brisket. They should take it off the menu completely. It was horrible. Everything else was fantastic. The bartender gave us our drinks on the house because one of our meals went un-eaten and he also took 10% off the total bill, which was nice. We didn't ask him to do that. This was actually our backup choice this past weekend while trying to get brunch in Decatur. We couldn't wait out in the rain for Sweet Melissa's, nor did I want to hear the way-too-loud whiny folk rock going on on-stage there, so we headed toward Oakhurst. Should have been our first choice because I've enjoyed this area so much in the past, during the BBQ Blues Fest this past fall. Plenty of parking out front and lots of tables open, and oh, a cocktail bar that I can't wait to perch myself on for a few cold ones. Plenty of open tables too, in the 'dining hall' style setup - meaning, you're not on top of other tables nor can you hear their conversations. You certainly can smell the wonders emanating from the open-window grill line, sans the clang of pots & pans and the kitchen chatter. Service was great, friendly and attentive, although, yes I could possibly agree with some of the other reviewers - our server was top notch - but yea, a little "snobby" perhaps? A little less-than-really-caring about us? But I get it, I work in the industry, and when it's busy, it's busy and you gotta stay on top of your shit. I could care less, and frankly I like it that way. I'll def be back for cocktails, bloodies...mimosas...oh, and the prices were perfect. The old fashioned is really good as well as the rest of the drink list. Food wise the BPR battered cauliflower appetizer was really good and so was the salmon burger. The bacon wrapped pork tenderloin was ok. The winter veggies that came with it were over cooked and dry. The place itself is really nice and the patio looks nice when the weather warms up. read more

I want to like this place! Neighborhood and setting are awesome, patio and bar are great places to hang. We've been twice now in the past month -- once for dinner and once for brunch. Service both times has mediocre at best. Dinner waitress was inattentive and seemed to want us in and out as quickly as possible -- even though it took 20 minutes to even put in a drink order. Had a reservation for brunch for 11 am today & showed up to a near-empty restaurant... but we stood around for 15 minutes while they "set up our table" even as walk-ins were sat. Short rib with orzo dish was very good. Theme of most of the dishes though is lack of salt and underwhelming flavor, certainly at the price point. Between sub-par service and fairly average food, I doubt we'll be back anytime soon. read more

We really were looking forward to a nice neighborhood restaurant and found this place. We were traveling north of Atlanta to Columbus. We ordered drinks and apps and they came out in a nice time and all yummy.. The beer battered cauliflower is covered in cheese but I did not realize that one ingredient was cheese. I mentioned that I did not want cheese on other items. NO problem- it was replaced very quickly. The meal then came and every item was delicious. Then, like another reviewer mentioned, our server disappeared (fell I to a labyrinth) and never checked on us. We had 2 girls who would have loved dessert. We never saw him to even ask us how our.meal was. We lost him. We arrived at 6 and now it's close to 8 and I'm hunting down our check. We would have taken dessert to go but feared how long it would take. This would be a 5 out 5 if the ending didn't disappoint. We can't stay all night though we would have loved to if we lived in neighborhood. My girls would love to have an order for dessert at 7 not 8. Or maybe coffee? But to sit and sit with dirty dishes for a long time was really a tough way to end such a fabulous meal. read more

First off, the space in here feels so light and airy due to all the windows. It reminds me of many restaurants in San Francisco, especially those in the Presidio. It almost has the look of an old train depot, but I have no idea if it actually was one. Even on a rainy day it was lovely. The patio will be great on a nice day. While the space is fantastic, there were a lot of hit and misses on the food side. First, the good news. Their deviled eggs are amazing. The filling was light, but still had that yolk richness and the crab on top came through delightfully. The fried cauliflower was excellent as well. You could get this for a table of four and it would be a good bit for everyone. The buttermilk sauce matched well with it. They pork wing itself was really tasty, but the gruyere waffle it sat on was really dry and didn't really go with the pork wing. The waffle also had a kale slaw on it which actually worked. The beet salad was small, but beets and goat cheese never fail. Besides the dry waffle, we also got luke-warm french onion soup that tasted pretty bland. It also came with a piece of bread that was so hard I couldn't cut it with a steak knife. Bread for french onion soup should be hearty so it doesn't get soggy, but not that impenetrable. The service was really excellent. Azhar did an excellent job, and graciously removed the french onion soup when we mentioned the bread issue. Really they've got the space and service down, but just need to nail some more of the menu items. read more

Food is very tasty and is on par with similarly priced spots around town, and the space has a simple elegance while still comfortable and roomy. The drink menu is creative (the Rye Tai is tasty!) Went out to dinner with my foodie friends. A new option in Decatur area - we are on it. After perusing the menu, I was between the steak and the duck. Well, you can't always get duck. And steak is usually best at a steakhouse. So I opted for the duck. Other items chosen by my party included the steak, ribeye sandwich, and scallops. I thought the duck was alright. The au jus with it definitely helped to add some good flavor. I wish that the brussels had been more braised/roasted, but they were OK. The atmosphere was pretty nice for an adult dinner - active, vibrant, but not overwhelming. Parking is a bit of a pain (hope you find something on the street not too far away), but that is Oakhurst for you. I hear they have a brunch now - I need to try it out. read more

My sister had her twins' first birthday party here, and it was perfect. The brunch was served buffet style, which I was initially concerned about, but it was delicious! This was no Golden Corral, definitely elevated to a much higher level. They served eggs, salad, grits, chicken sandwiches, shrimp n grits, fruit, yogurt, French toast, etc... everything was tasty. On top of good food the service was friendly and accommodating, and the space was open and airy. There are lots of windows with natural lighting beaming in. I really liked the venue. This is a great place to have a private party at a reasonable price. Since the buffet was so delicious, I'm sure dining there would be even better. Definitely recommend this place for dinner - and sit outside, they have a cute patio! If you go on Thursday there's live jazz music right around the corner! We got the pretzel bites as an appetizer, they are small but good for two people to split.I got the seasonal salad and loved it, champagne dressing was light so I got extra dressing, but flavors were good. My boyfriend got the ahi tuna salad and liked it. We also got a side of the brussel sprouts, super yummy highly recommend! I got the watermelon cocktail, SO GOOD, I got two. It was very refreshing and light, tasted like straight watermelon juice. My boyfriend got the Nitro Toronto and really liked it. I ordered The Southern with a mimosa (with real bitters) and it was fantastic, my server was a local named Monica with the best service i could ask for. Can't believe I didn't know this place was here. Large restaurant and also a larger and smaller patio. Manager who reseated us from smaller one was very friendly as was the waitstaff. The drink I had was good and not overly sweet. I ordered the filet meal (cooked perfectly-although I'm sure they hate cooking to medium well for me). The sides were yummy as was the blue cheese aioli dip I asked for on the side. My friend seemed to enjoy her fish burger and the said the fries were really good. I ate everything. Desserts looked good but I was fill at that point. Definitely will come back. The doors can be confusing. I parked in the lot in back. You walk first through this hallway and back outside and then all the way around front to the bigger set of double doors right in the middle. read more

Fritters were ok, fried catfish had little flavor, hangar steak was chewy, fries were waaay overseasosned, bread pudding was cold in the center and had little flavor anyway. The seasonal salad was good. I would have eaten 2 or 3 of those over everything else. And they made me a special mocktail that I enjoyed. We love to try new places but this was a huge disappointment. The real knock-out items at Scout are the seafood ones - the mussels appetizer are incredible with a creamy, buttery sauce (and there's a ton of them) and the redfish and trout entrees are perfectly cooked and so good. Most of the cocktails I've had at Scout are really interesting and good, too. I love the redesign of the interior, it's huge and modern. My family came here a while back to celebrate and I have wanted to come back ever since. I came in for Sunday Brunch with my fiancé's family. Apparently my future MIL has been here a few as well. The hostess was sweet and accommodating and got us a great table that fit us and our very young infant well even though we hadn't made a reservation. Our waitress, Ariel, was the same waitress we had last time! I was happy to get a chance to know her name and finally could give a name to the awesome service. I got the Chicken and Waffles and it was amazing. Juicy Chicken, fluffy waffle it was delicious. I wasn't crazy about the kale slaw, It had a weird sweetness to it but everything else on the plate was just awesome. My fiancé and her mother got the brussell bowl and loved it. The hollandaise was so creamy. Her sister got the salmon burger and her father got the shrimp creole. We were a happy table. read more

What a disappointment! We had been hearing good reviews about Scout, love going out to Oakhurst and decided to check it out early on a summer like Friday evening so we could enjoy the night outside. I made a reservation via OpenTable for 6pm and had requested to sit outside. We arrived a bit early, the hostess said she needed a few minutes to get our table ready but mentioned they don't actually reserve tables outside, but that she would keep an eye open for us. We went to grab a drink at the bar while waiting, but realized with her 'attention' to the matter we should probably go wait outside ourselves. Meanwhile, there was an entirely open communal table which she didn't offer up until we began heading out to the patio ourselves (the usual seat yourself outdoor policy, apparently i.e. not managed). Off to a super dodgy start, which sadly didn't improve. Service from wait staff was incredibly slow, so drinks and food both arrived with major delays. As with the young hostess, there was an attitude neither my husband or I appreciated. As for the food, between us we had the rib eye sandwich (served w fries), fried cauliflower, Brussels sprout blue cheese slaw and a Caesar salad. The rib eye was a marginal 'roast beef au jus.' The French fries came out stone cold so we sent them back. They were returned hot, but without taste (and I have NEVER met a fry I haven't enjoyed). The highlights of the meal were definitely the cauliflower (flavorful w a nice fry to the pieces) and the Slaw (delicious, but TINY portion). Finally, Caesar salads are one of my favorite go-to dishes. Theirs was completely devoid of flavor. I always request to add bacon and tomatoes when possible to my Caesar's, and Scout agreed to deliver. What they added were a few tiny pieces of bacon bits and a few tomatoes. Overall with the meal, there was an obvious lack of simple flavoring which could have been helped w just a dash of salt / pepper. To end the already disappointing evening, as we were waking out the door, I received an email from OpenTable letting me know Scout had cancelled our reservation. Thank you, for absolutely nothing!!! I don't Yelp often but at times I feel the need; drink service was slow-slow - 20+ minutes with a reminder necessary. $110 with tip for two beers, two ciders, a chewy hanger steak (ok, I should know better maybe) and a vegetarian meal is not a small number. Our friends picked up the starters. Sorry Scout, can't see me coming back. Decatur has started to try to be equivalent to Downtown Chicago, without the same level of service and over all product; Kimball House being another case in point. Tried Scout for the first time on a Sunday night. The place was decently empty and so was the parking lot. My friend ordered a drink right after we sat down and it took about 15 minutes before it arrived. I agree with other reviews that the waitstaff is not helpful or attentive. We order the avocado eggs to start, those are very good. I had the duck breast, it was over cooked and the dish was swimming in a pool of sauce. The cauliflower steak it was served with was nice but the greens were on the bottom in the soup. My friend had the hanger steak with fries and really enjoyed his dish. read more

This restaurant gets 2 stars from me because I'm huge on service and sincerity. Service: Very, very, very unimpressed. We were seated at a table and immediately received water from the Deandre. After that, we waited for almost 20 minutes for anyone to come over. This was odd because another waitress passed our table at least 6-7 times without even giving us eye contact, and come to find out, the manager passed our table at least twice - still no attention. Deandre, being super helpful, noticed us looking around and immediately went to try to track down some wait staff for us. It got so bad that the sous chef came over and had to begin trying to take our orders. At this point, we were ready to leave. The manager finally comes over, and gives us a very rehearsed speech about how he was happy we came in and that he was happy we told him we had an issue. He also told us he would come back and check on us before we left, never returned. Totally unresponsive. Food: Once we were finally assigned a waitress, we ordered some apps. I must say, the food is very good. We started with the spinach dip and fried cauliflower. The spinach dip was out of this world! So tasty. I didn't love the cauliflower, but others in my party really enjoyed it. For my main course, I had the salmon burger. It's texture reminded me of a crab cake, but it was really flavorful! For dessert, we tried the Apple tart - worst part of the meal. Overall, I will probably not return. It is not a nice feeling to be basically ignored while still paying hefty prices. The pork sandwich was extremely dry and the rapini (broccoli) on it was a strange addition that didn't work. The gracious host said happy birthday to us on the way out, but the server either wasn't told of the occasion or didn't think it merited a mention while we were dining.
