They get 4 stars more so for the service and the atmosphere. Love the decor in the restaurant and if love vintage like me the bathrooms are so nicely decorated and it feels like you've stepped back in time - in a good way. All of the employees were very nice and attentive. They were pretty busy when we went but still made sure to check in on us. They have indoor and outdoor seating which I love. As for the food, loved my fries and my boyfriend liked his buffalo wings but the salads weren't great. The dressing was barely there and didn't have much a taste. My steak was cooked great but we wouldn't order them again. However we saw some people who got burgers or ordered off the dinner menu so we'll definitely go back and try something else.

Mmm less than clean table

Oof. What to say about this place. Ambience: Ithought it was nice. My daughter said it was the whitest place she'd ever been to, but I thought the combination of vintage items and modern decor worked. Food: we both ordered burgers, the chicken sandwich and a turkey burger. They were both very good. The salads were so so and the dressing was different for each sandwich. The one they gave us for the chicken sandwich was better than the oily mess I got for the burger. Cleanliness: honestly we were both freaked out about this. All of the glasses seemed vaguely dirty as did the silverware. There were bits of something floating around in the water in the water glass. My suspicion is they're using some cheapi detergent -- level up people. Use something that makes your glasses and silverware clear. I don't know what the bits were floating around in the water. It was unappetizing, and we almost walked out because of it. Service: the server was relatively attentive, so no complaints there. A little weird in terms of the fact that she was really pushing the alcoholic drinks, but whatever. She was fine. Overall? I wouldn't go out of my way to go here, but if you're in the neighborhood, maybe give them a shot. There's not a lot there. It's pretty much this place, a couple of coffee shops, or the Italian place down the street. Take your pick!

House made vegan burger oh so good.

Absolutely loved this place and I can't believe I had never stopped in before. The service was incredible and you can tell that they have a lot of regulars. The space itself is so homey and eclectic. I ordered the vegan burger, which was made in house and it was delicious...could have used a bit more seasoning/salt but I'll just ask for a shaker next time. My Chardonnay hit the spot and I think I found a new favorite in Burbank. Parking can be a bit difficult in this busy stretch of Magnolia, but we managed to find a spot about a block away.

The All American Burger and Turkey Burger

I recently had a delicious lunch with my daughter at The New Deal, and I must say, the experience was lovely. The restaurant exudes a cozy vintage vibe, making it an inviting spot. Its location is ideal, nestled right in Magnolia Park, surrounded by some of my favorite vintage shops. Our server, Mindy, was an absolute gem. Despite being busy, she was friendly and attentive, ensuring we felt well taken care of. I opted for the turkey burger with sweet potato fries, and the addition of pesto really enhanced the flavor of the burger. The sweet potato fries were a standout too, I enjoyed them !Since it was happy hour, I treated myself to a glass of house red wine, which complemented the meal nicely. My daughter chose the classic All American burger with fries, and she really enjoyed it as well.I'm already looking forward to my next visit, where I plan to try something new from their menu!

After picking up my shoes from Deluxe Shoe Repair I stopped in to The New Deal for lunch and it was a great experience. The vibe reminds me of my favorite spring and fall visits to Napa and Yountville. The restaurant is simple yet elegant with great "American Song Book" music playing in the background. Had the Blue Eagle burger which was very good and a glass of their house red wine that was reasonable prices and very good! I will be back!

I had a great time when I was visiting! I got a brisket burger and it was damn good!!! Service was on point, food is yummy and loved sitting outside- perfect place to people watch and read a book!

Patty Melt

The staff were a little overeager to take our order, coming back to the table very quickly after giving us menus. I don't think it'd even been five minutes since we'd been given the menus! But they were also happy to give us a little longer, and came back when we were ready to order. The patty melt I got was...not great, to be honest. The cheese had little flavor, or what flavor it did have was overpowered by tarragon. The house made chips were nice! The bathroom honestly kind of creeped me out. There was way too much going on, and the lights were very dim, so it sort of felt like antiques were looming at you in the darkness. In another setting, I would've found all the items very interesting to look at, but not with my pants down! Overall, I'm not sure if I'd be back. Some of their other dishes sounded interesting and I did enjoy the overall aesthetic of the restaurant.

The Roosevelt Burger with fries

There's street parking to get here. The vintage decor is really neat and has a chill vibe. It's a fairly cozy restaurant with limited seating both indoor and outdoors. There's a sunday brunch menu but also a main menu. The service was quick and staff were really nice. The Roosevelt burger was great! You can have the patty cooked to your preference. The bacon is nice and juicy. The fries remind me of In n Out's fries. Which I don't mind. But you can get homemade chips instead as a side. The food is slightly on the pricey side but it's definitely worth a chance to try. I would return to try other menu items.

The New Deal is a wonderful addition to Burbank's Magnolia Park area. It's a great starting point for weekend brunch and mimosas, then some spins through the boutiques and novelty shops, ending with coffee at one of the cafes further down Magnolia Blvd. It's an eclectic, attractive, space, reminiscent of NoHo's Idle Hour or other 1933 Group establishments: the type of place to call drinks "libations" and encourage their staff to sport bowties and twirly mustaches. Appreciated touches of whimsy include tables decoupaged with deco-era newspapers and pretty art labels on the glass table water bottles. Quaint appearances aside, the service is excellent, the drinks are delicious, and the food is outstanding. We started with a round of tasty Aperol spritzes, and selected two items from the brunch and lunch menu: skirt steak eggs benedict and the beef short rib sandwich. The benny was great with tender steak and perfect hollandaise, and the short rib sandwich was phenomenal: flavourful beef, a tangy aioli, perfectly caramelised onions, fresh rocket, and a pillowy soft ciabatta roll. I chose a side of fries instead of house chips with my sandwich, and they were remarkably, perfectly cooked. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. Even on busy weekends, there's plenty of free street parking down Avon. Brunch here was a delight, and we're looking forward to coming back to try the dinner menu.

Absolutely love this gem of a restaurant! Superb choice in music. Amazing food, you can't go wrong with any menu item. Wonderful service!

Delicious mimosas

Not even going to lie this is my new favorite spot. Went twice in a week. I've tried the short rib sandwich and the fried chicken sandwich. The short rib sandwich was amazing. The fried chicken sandwich was okay. I ordered both sandwiches with fries ranch and ketchup - their ranch is good. They're a lil skimpy on the fries here but not a deal breaker. I also love their mimosas. The bubbly and orange juice is chefs kiss. I drink the first one down fast bc it taste so good. Next time ill add pics of the food. Their menu look solid and I'm excited to try more things on their menu including the short ribs as an entree.

Really nice place. It's has a Victorian feel to it with antique items all around. Service was great. Food was tasty, and the pricing is really decent. There's outdoor seating (dog friendly) as well as inside. I would come here again.

Woman's restroom - yelp posting worthy

I can't tell you how many times I have driven by this place and made a mental note to eat here. The name alone grabbed my attention...So, I bookmarked it on yelp. Finally!!!! I can cross it off my list & add it to my favorites...It's so quaint, romantic & cozy feeling. The inside decor reminded me of a French Bistro that you might find on a side street in Paris. Our very friendly server Connor, greeted us and brought us a nice carafe of cold water asap on this very hot summer evening. The service was top notch and quick. Connor was very attentive and answered all of our food questions. We ordered: The short ribs which came with mashed potatoes & seasonal greens. 5/5; Brown Derby Cobb Salad w/home made creamy Italian dressing was 5/5. My girl Olivia loved her short ribs and I loved my salad. They have a back patio, cafe style tables out front and a long row of tables inside. The decor won me over. (I usually do not include a restroom pic but this one was a must:) *2025 is their 10 year anniversary xoxo *Prices are moderate *Plenty of free street parking *Bringing back Live Jazz Nights so keep your eyes open.

I'm reviewing based on two very different experiences…read more I came here by myself for a smaller World Cup game and the workers were the best!! I explained that I just wanted to watch a game and be out of the way and they could not have been kinder through my whole time there! Daniela was my server and she was so kind! Best service and I didn't even order food. The second experience I had was going pretty well! My boyfriend and I took a friend who had just put down one of her dogs. She took her other dog with her since he has never been left without the other dog. :( we were really hoping to cheer her up with an outing. It was unfortunately super hot outside and so we asked the server if we'd be able to sit inside with the dog. No problem! The dog was in a stroller and we took a table right by the patio door. We really enjoyed our drinks and food and talking to each other. Our server, Kailey, made sure we had water and drink refills as needed. We had been there over 2 hours at this point, watching a World Cup came that had about 10 minutes left, when someone came up to us, I'm assuming a manager, but she never introduced herself to us, and told us the dog needed to either be on the floor or in the stroller (he was in our friends lap at this point) and then told us the stroller was a fire hazard unless it was on the other side of the table. We were very receptive, no problem, but very confused why this would come up after we had been sitting there for over 2 hours. This employee disappeared after that and we didn't see her again! It was just bizarre. Anyway- the servers were friendly and the other people there watching the game were fun. I loved the carnitas nachos and the Baja seltzer! I just was very confused by this "manager" coming up after 2 hours of us being there (she had seen us there at least 30-40 minutes before approaching us). Up front it wouldn't have been confusing! We're happy to follow rules and such and the dog was fine in his stroller. It just put a bad taste in our mouth, especially when there were only about 10 minutes left in the game we were watching. Felt a little too late to approach us? I wouldn't let this hinder my coming back. All the servers I've had were so great, I just don't know why a manager type would wait so long to present a customer with where a stroller can and can't be. We had made sure to ask up front about it, too and there were no issues! For those reading- check this place out! Fun to casually watch a game of some kind and get a drink and appetizer. The servers are amazing!

It felt like the food quality has gone down from the time when they first opened. Maybe the sauce was overpowering the meat and cheese? Maybe the meat got cold too fast? Something didn't feel right. The more I took a bite, I just wasn't satisfied. The fries were slightly on the soggy side vs crispy. Maybe I should've asked to cook longer? She was welcoming, friendly, and made us feel genuinely appreciated from the moment we walked in. She provided the level of hospitality I expect from Islands. Unfortunately, everything after we were seated went downhill. We started with the spinach artichoke dip, which arrived extremely runny and lacked any real flavor. Even the "secret seasoning" couldn't improve it. It was not something I would order again. I ordered the Longboarder Burger and was equally disappointed. The bun had a strong, stale odor that made it seem as though it had absorbed the smell of a pantry shelf or had been sitting far past its prime. The smell was so off-putting that I had to take the burger apart and eat only the patty. Even then, the patty itself was underwhelming, lacking both quality and flavor. For a restaurant known for its burgers, this was unacceptable. Our server, whose name I don't recall, was absent for most of the evening. While I understand restaurants get busy, being busy shouldn't come at the expense of basic attentiveness. On more than one occasion, she appeared too rushed to fully listen to what we were saying. At one point, my partner was still in the middle of speaking when she simply walked away before he had finished his sentence. That left us feeling dismissed rather than cared for. I've always associated Islands with consistently good food and friendly service, which is why this experience was so disappointing. Sophia, the hostess, delivered excellent hospitality, but the food quality and the service we received after being seated fell well below the standard I expect from this restaurant. I hope management takes this feedback seriously, because based on this visit, I would hesitate to return.
