The patio is really nice, and I truly enjoy sitting outside when it's not too hot. Inside, the restaurant is small, cozy, and lively, with a great mixture of vintage style and homestyle charm. The menu is unique, with great options for brunch, lunch, and dinner. I highly recommend the Frank Sinatra "My Way" Chicken--it's excellent! I've also had the turkey burger, which is very good, and the French fries are amazing. My friend ordered the Salmon Benedict and needed a Paleo-friendly adjustment. They were very accommodating, which we really appreciated. And, of course, I had a mimosa, which was great! One thing I've noticed both times I've visited is how hardworking, friendly, and upbeat the women on the staff are. The service has been consistently great, and everyone makes you feel welcome. Parking: Street parking is available and really isn't too difficult. Some of the spaces closest to the restaurant have a two-hour limit, but there is also residential street parking nearby. The vintage inspired decor and appealing menu convinced my husband that I would enjoy Mother's Day brunch at The New Deal. We arrived at our reservation time, but they couldn't find us on their list. Mindy then came over to explain that our reservation was cancelled. After letting them know that it was still showing valid on our Open Table account, they kindly accommodated. We especially appreciated that they honored our request for an indoor table. We ordered the Biscuits & Gravy and Huevos Rancheros. We found both quite delicious. The husband kept scraping the bowl to get every bit of that yummy gravy. Portions were just right. Mindy ended up being our wonderful server. Despite the incredibly busy morning, she remained friendly and engaging. We watched her provide the same level of service to every table, while pleasantly managing the constant flow of walk-ins hoping to dine without reservations. It was a great experience overall -- we look forward to coming back! Street parking was tough to find. The Chase bank at the end of the block is closed on Sundays so we parked there without any issues. After brunch we explored the immediate area to find a couple nice thrift shops. I remembering coming here years ago and I was so excited to finally stop by again! The overall vibe of this place is really cute and vintage. Their decoration is very unique even the details in the bathroom were really cool!!! The menu has a good variety of options I didn't know what to pick! The grilled cheese and tomato soup sounded amazing as well as the nachos, fried pickles, pancakes, vegan sloppy Joe, etc. we opted for the Huevos Rancheros, Brussel sprouts, and biscuit n jam. The brussel sprouts were delicious!! The huevos rancheros were good but nothing that stood out to me and the biscuit was also good but it felt a bit outrageous to pay $8 for a single biscuit. Terrific place to go! Whether solo dining, date night or family this place felt so perfect for any occasion. I came here due to my wine club having their popup here and so glad they chose this spot! Everyone was friendly and the food was delicious. Of course the wine was as well!! I got the ahi tuna burger which was so flavorful and kept raw with touch of seared which I love. Very Disappointing Experience This was my first time visiting The New Deal. I decided to give it a try because of the good Yelp ratings, but unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. To start, the tables seemed dirty, almost as if they had been wiped down with a dirty rag. On top of that, the A/C was extremely weak, and it felt uncomfortably hot inside. I will give credit where it's due--the staff were very nice and friendly. However, the service was still lacking in some areas. It started getting a little busy around 4:30 PM, but my drink wasn't brought out until my meal arrived. I also noticed my glass of wine sitting at the bar for quite some time before it was brought over. Unfortunately, the food was the biggest disappointment. I ordered the braised beef short rib, which consisted mostly of fat with very little meat. The vegetables that came with it were heavily loaded with butter and lacked any other seasoning. I also ordered the green beans with almonds, which had virtually no flavor and tasted like they came straight from a frozen bag. We ended up leaving most of our food because it simply wasn't enjoyable. While we were waiting for the check, we noticed several fruit flies flying around our table, as well as around the table of the group next to us. That was especially concerning and made me question the cleanliness of the restaurant. To make matters worse, I'm fairly certain I saw another group across the restaurant kill a roach. The other day I was walking around the area and stumbled on this cute little spot. Today I went in for lunch with my friends and we were seated right away at one of their comfy tables. Joe instantly brought us water in chilled glasses which signaled to me that this place understands how the smallest of details can elevate the guest experience. The entire space feels well thought out, from the cozy green seats to the framed photos hanging across the bathroom walls. I tried the short rib sandwich and my friends ordered the cod sandwich and the Roosevelt burger. They cooked the burger perfectly and the cod was crispy, flakey, and juicy. I recommend asking for an extra side of tartar sauce for the cod sandwich and extra caramelized onions for the short rib sandwich, not because it needs it but because they're addictively good. My short rib sandwich was delicious, tender, and stacked with meat. Their drink menu includes some nostalgic bubbly favorites I am excited to try next time, like Shirley temple and cream soda. They also offer coffee from a local coffee shop which impressed me. Service was relaxed, but attentive. Joe glided through tables seamlessly and timed check ins perfectly, so it was easy to keep conversations flowing and still make requests. At the end, Joe handed us our check in a cute little hardcover book which is such an adorable touch. While it wasn't overbearingly hot inside, I think a fan or some ac would have sweetened the experience a little more. I would be mindful of the weather when planning your visit if the heat is too overwhelming. Although, summer feels like the perfect time to enjoy their milk shakes and floats. My daughter said it was the whitest place she'd ever been to, but I thought the combination of vintage items and modern decor worked. Food: we both ordered burgers, the chicken sandwich and a turkey burger. They were both very good. The salads were so so and the dressing was different for each sandwich. The one they gave us for the chicken sandwich was better than the oily mess I got for the burger. Cleanliness: honestly we were both freaked out about this. All of the glasses seemed vaguely dirty as did the silverware. There were bits of something floating around in the water in the water glass. My suspicion is they're using some cheapi detergent -- level up people. Use something that makes your glasses and silverware clear. I don't know what the bits were floating around in the water. It was unappetizing, and we almost walked out because of it. Service: the server was relatively attentive, so no complaints there. A little weird in terms of the fact that she was really pushing the alcoholic drinks, but whatever. She was fine. Overall? I wouldn't go out of my way to go here, but if you're in the neighborhood, maybe give them a shot. There's not a lot there. Love the decor in the restaurant and if love vintage like me the bathrooms are so nicely decorated and it feels like you've stepped back in time - in a good way. All of the employees were very nice and attentive. They were pretty busy when we went but still made sure to check in on us. They have indoor and outdoor seating which I love. As for the food, loved my fries and my boyfriend liked his buffalo wings but the salads weren't great. The dressing was barely there and didn't have much a taste. Absolutely loved this place and I can't believe I had never stopped in before. The service was incredible and you can tell that they have a lot of regulars. The space itself is so homey and eclectic. I ordered the vegan burger, which was made in house and it was delicious...could have used a bit more seasoning/salt but I'll just ask for a shaker next time. After picking up my shoes from Deluxe Shoe Repair I stopped in to The New Deal for lunch and it was a great experience. The vibe reminds me of my favorite spring and fall visits to Napa and Yountville. The restaurant is simple yet elegant with great "American Song Book" music playing in the background. It's a great starting point for weekend brunch and mimosas, then some spins through the boutiques and novelty shops, ending with coffee at one of the cafes further down Magnolia Blvd. It's an eclectic, attractive, space, reminiscent of NoHo's Idle Hour or other 1933 Group establishments: the type of place to call drinks "libations" and encourage their staff to sport bowties and twirly mustaches. Appreciated touches of whimsy include tables decoupaged with deco-era newspapers and pretty art labels on the glass table water bottles. Quaint appearances aside, the service is excellent, the drinks are delicious, and the food is outstanding. We started with a round of tasty Aperol spritzes, and selected two items from the brunch and lunch menu: skirt steak eggs benedict and the beef short rib sandwich. The benny was great with tender steak and perfect hollandaise, and the short rib sandwich was phenomenal: flavourful beef, a tangy aioli, perfectly caramelised onions, fresh rocket, and a pillowy soft ciabatta roll. I chose a side of fries instead of house chips with my sandwich, and they were remarkably, perfectly cooked. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. The restaurant is very unassuming from the outside but has a chic vintage vibe. Aside from tables they also have these gorgeous green velvet banquettes, which are a nice touch. The only thing I don't like about the decor is the tables. They were covered with newspapers and then covered in some sort of a sealant. But after 10 years of business, the tables are peeling, which doesn't seem very hygienic. As for the food and service, though, pretty good! Our server was Mindy and she was very friendly and attentive. My friend and I came during brunch, so they were pretty busy but we were still seated right away. I ordered the goat cheese omelette and my friend had the salmon Benedict. The food was good but I felt like the servings were average, which I actually don't mind. But it's not really a leftovers place. One minor complaint about the food: my omelette was supposed to come with green onion but it didn't. Maybe they were out. I didn't bother inquiring because I just wanted to eat. While I didn't have a 5-star experience, I'd definitely come back and try some more dishes. And to condemn any version of law enforcement is asking for trouble, condoning a dangerous message possibly perceived right now as condoning violence -- it's bad news, bad vibe. Almost ruined our dinner; it raised frustrating feeings. We went out to avoid the news and the other stuff, the division, the everything, all we try to get away from now and then. I was debating whether or not to leave this review but considering I paid $90 for one appetizer, two entrees and two iced teas I had to. My husband and I have eaten here before. It wasn't amazing but it was a decent date night the first time around 2 years ago. They have a new chef so we thought we'd give it a try. I got the crispy chicken dish and it was all wrong. According to the description it was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. What I got instead was a soggy and dry piece of chicken breast that was cold and had NO FLAVOR. The mashed potatoes were hot seasoned and drowning in brown butter and the green beans tasted like they were dunked in sugar and again no salt. The chicken use to be a bone in piece of chicken and how it's a 1/3 of the portion for the same value. It's sad the best thing we had was the street corn that was drowned in mayo and the iced tea. Not the best food and definitely not at the price. The service however was wonderful. read more

The food was good enough but what earned 5-stars ( and I don't give those out lightly ) was that I love that this place is really going for something and it doesn't seem to make sense under capitalism. They had so many actors having fun in character and period costume. It was unexpected and delightful and made the experience fun and unique and interesting. IDK if they'll be able to do that every night or maintain it in a consistent basis but I like to see people getting together and doing things unconstrained by the arbitrary ridiculousness of our society. I expect to go back and hope you'll try it out and bring friends and I don't think they'd mind if you got into period costume and character yourselves so could be interesting if you're into that. read more

We Burbankers don't like to brag, but the 12 walkable blocks on Magnolia Boulevard (between Buena Vista and Hollywood Way) are an awesome way to spend an afternoon. Nail salons, antique shops, thrift stores, coffee shops, cafes and restaurants -- street parking galore, and remember that Burbank is the city without a parking meter. Downtown Burbank is fun and all, but our small town really shines over here. The New Deal is one of those family-owned restaurants. I love riding my bike over here for a homey lunch and Mexican coke (for energy on the bike ride home). I'm always torn between their fries and the homemade potato chips, which are served super hot. You cannot go wrong with a burger here, of the "gooey cheesy" grilled cheese. Most fun thing -- your check comes inside the pages of an old book. Whenever there's a fundraiser around town (school uniforms, local charity), you'll always see The New Deal as one of the donors.
