This is tucked away in a small strip mall on 81st Avenue in Dyer, Indiana. I visited on a Saturday with a group of 5 sorority sisters from my college years. (30+ years later, our sisterhood is still going strong!) Anyway, It was 5 of us in the group, however one of our group members regularly frequents this restaurant a few times a month. She spoke really highly of the food, so we agreed to meet there. The Scrambled Diner is a very small establishment, with seating for approximately 50 people. (My number is only an estimate). Upon our 11:30 a.m. arrival, we were greeted in a rather large waiting area and told there was a 30 minute wait. The wait time was accurate, and upon being seated, we were greeted by a very cheerful waitress, who readily recognized my friend, greeting her "You are back today!" We placed our orders from a selection of breakfast and lunch items to choose from. I had the Rueben with Fries. Two others had the Lobster Roll with Fries. One ordered the French Toast Breakfast with Bacon and Eggs. Lastly, one other person from our group had the Chorizo Skillet. The food was delivered in approximately 20 minutes. All of the sauces, such as ketchup and hot sauce, are homemade. My only drawback was that I originally planned to order a skillet. The menu advertised eggs "done the way you like them." However, when I asked for my eggs to be cooked "fresh, country scrambled" or "country scrambled," I was told they could not do that for me. It was disappointing to hear, despite the menu suggesting they could prepare to my liking. This oversight impacted my dining experience, causing me to opt out of ordering breakfast altogether. (For those who do not know, "fresh, country scrambled" simply means unbeaten eggs. So, one would crack the egg directly over the skillet and cook until the egg whites are partially set, then gently fold the eggs a couple of times until they are fully cooked. The end result is bigger chunks of egg white in the scrambled eggs, so you can enjoy the flavor of each component of the egg). With the request of some mustard, I enjoyed my Rueben and fries. If I come back, I want to try the homemade cinnamon rolls.

The food was good. There was a lot of different options. The only negative is it's pretty pricey. Also the space is quite small. Not good for large groups of people or people who are sensitive to noise and space. The service was good.

This is a very popular breakfast spot and my husband and I have stopped by a few times on the weekend, but the wait has been too long. It's small and quaint. The coffee is strong and delicious. They have an interesting menu and good specials. We did not have to wait very long today, however, once we were seated, it took a server just about 15 minutes to acknowledge us. By the time we received our food, we had been sitting at our table for an hour. The waitress said something off the cuff that turned us off. The food was good, but when you compare it to the price and the wait, not worth it. I don't believe we will be back.

This is the best breakfast place hands down! The hashbrowns are crispy and perfect. And my favorite is the veggie breakfast burrito

I won't be back. For starters why is it only portraits of white kids? It's feeling like they cater to only them. I order the French toast club. The eggs were not scrambled with cheese they slapped American cheese right on top. I would have preferred them scrambled in the cheese. French toast was good. They were huge! I'm sure two people could share. The turkey sausage was awful omg it tastes like meatless something. I've never had turkey sausage like that. My man had the 2 egg breakfast and a side of short stack pancakes. He had me try the pancake I'm not a pancake person but it had a pepper after taste. He also had ketchup for his hash brown and it tasted like sugar free. I also didn't like how they don't have a meal option for pancakes, meat and eggs. That should be one meal. It was not worth $50 whatsoever and I will not be back. If you are looking for something to satisfy your taste buds it's for sure not this place.

Fantastic. I had the Boston skillet which is seafood (crab and shrimp over hash browns and spinach) with 2 eggs on top. This dish was dope. Cooked perfectly and plentiful portions of seafood and hash browns, I was in heaven eating this. My wife had the banana fosters pancakes and she loves her dish too. Service was excellent and prices are very reasonable for the quality of food you get. Top notch place

The staff made it worse. Service was rude, unorganized, and it felt like we were an inconvenience just for being there. No greeting, no check-ins, no urgency at all. On top of that, the restaurant itself was dirty. Tables weren't wiped down, floors looked neglected, and overall it just didn't feel clean or welcoming, which makes you question what's going on behind the scenes. There are way too many good breakfast places out there to waste your time here. I won't be back.

I ordered the Brisket Hash and Eggs - it also comes with either toast or pancakes - I chose the pancakes, which actually was the best choice and best food I had. The coffee is also pretty good. Bold and HOT. The Brisket Hash is served in a smaller cast-iron dish on your plate. It's super dry. I think it's mixed with some hashbrowns and onions and some spices. But it was way too dry and didn't taste like smoked brisket, so if you were hoping for that taste of brisket, this isn't the right choice. It also comes with eggs and I had them over easy, other than still a little runny and not cooked through, they were okay. The pancakes were the best though. Super soft, comes with butter (on the side) plus syrup and a small tiny cup of applesauce (tasty). They had good flavor and was perfect. Someone at our table also ordered the Biscuit and Gravy. It's a super large flaky biscuit (way too dry) and some dark sausage gravy that tasted more like flour than sausage gravy. It was definitely thick, but the flavor was off. We did not finish it. Others at our table got just eggs, bacon and toast. Something you can make at home anyway, so it's hard to mess it up honestly. And one other person ordered the greek salad. The dressing comes ON the salad already, and it felt like they could have served some extra on the side. Just wasn't enough. Plus the salad was served on a plate, not in a bowl, so salad and toppings fell off onto the table. Not the prettiest presentation. In fact, the theme of this place is - everything is served on a separate dish, so good luck finding space on your table. Plus I feel the prices are way higher than they should be for the portion size and quality of food. The other issue here is that this place is LOUD. Someone in our group uses hearing aids and they had to turn them down because it was way too loud. we could hardly have a normal conversation and there were just five of us at a long table. The chairs are another issue I feel. As you scoot in and away from the table, it feels like the legs are going to break from underneath you at any point. They are wobbly, and very uncomfortable. So, in closing, I wanted to LOVE this place, but it's just an overpriced brunch location with a large two-sided menu of bland food with the loudest rooms imaginable.

So it's not the easiest to find unless you're specifically looking for and or purposefully reading the signs. Since it is in a short mall, parking was very amble so that was great. When we got in, there was a little to no weight, which was also very pleasant. The place is themed with all music and rock 'n' roll art and really bright bold colors. The service was OK, but she actually forgot our coffees and I had to ask a second time and when I asked the second time she only brought over one coffee instead of the original two we ordered We ordered chicken and waffles and quite frankly she told us that these were the absolute best chicken tenders and no sauce was needed, even though it did come with sauce, and I did order the hot honey sauce and the garlic Parmesan sauce. The tenders are good because the batter is seasoned however, I expected either more tenders or perhaps a smaller plate because if you look at the picture, it's more plate than it is meat The same could be said for the country fried steak. It was such a small piece for such a big plate. It didn't really make a lot of sense. Our waitress also told us that this place had the absolute best tater tots ever so we wouldn't put the tater tots and to be quite blunt these tater tots taste no different than any other restaurant This whole area of Northwest Indiana is so saturated with breakfast brunch spots that I have to say that the food has got to elevate itself to really stand out and also to stay relevant with all the competition.

As always, the restaurant was clean and well maintained. We were seated in the coffee shop area, which was about half full. Our server greeted us immediately with a warm smile and welcoming personality. She promptly took our drink orders and returned shortly after to take our meal selections. We started with an order of chicken livers. There was a bit of confusion because on a previous visit I had ordered a half portion of the appetizer. I asked for that again, but the server seemed unsure. When the bill arrived, we were charged the full $16 appetizer price. After checking with the manager, she informed us that half portions are no longer offered. Had that been clearly explained upfront, I likely would not have ordered them. That said, the livers were outstanding -- possibly the best I've ever had. I requested the onions well done, and they came out perfect. The livers were tender, buttery, and beautifully seasoned. Honestly, they were hearty enough to be a meal on their own. My wife ordered the boned breaded perch lunch portion. We've had it several times before and it has always been excellent. The light breading allows the tender, flaky perch to shine. One small disappointment: there is now a $2 charge (noted on the menu) for melted butter to accompany the perch. I ordered the breaded frog legs, which we've also enjoyed in the past. They were delicious again. The same $2 charge applies if you want melted butter with the frog legs. Lunch portions include a side -- mashed potatoes with gravy, the daily vegetable (green beans), and a choice of four slices of marinated beets or coleslaw. Unfortunately, the green beans were served at room temperature. Aside from the misunderstanding regarding the appetizer portion, the service was excellent. We will definitely be back.
