I love this place. Food is fantastic. My wife is gluten intolerant and this place has an incredible GF biscuit (all of their biscuits are house-made and fantastic). She gets the breakfast sandwich and my favorite has become the fried chicken biscuit sandwich with the spicy option - it comes on a ranch biscuit, which is awesome. I've also gotten the short rib hash, which was very solid as well. We also usually split an order of the crispy potatoes, which comes with a spicy mayo dipping sauce. The only reason I can't get myself to rate this 5 stars is because of how incredibly expensive it is. I lived in the city for several years and this place is more expensive than my all my favorite breakfast spots in Chicago. Everything is a la carte. Our two sandwiches and potatoes, with tax and tip is over $50 (with no drinks!). I have ordered for pickup twice and it's actually more expensive than dining in. The first time, I ordered online (which is through Toast). They have a "service" charge and then an additional place to add a tip - very misleading. I picked up the order and the "service" charge on the receipt is actually "gratuity"! So it's an automatic tip (disguised as a service charge), with another place to tip. To try to avoid a "service" charge, I called the store for pickup the second time. Literally the same thing, because they just enter it into Toast while I'm on the phone. read more

Honors its name with food made from scratch. It was also absolutely delicious and gourmet, leaving you savoring every bite! The biscuits and the sauces on the breakfast sandwiches are bursting with flavor. My wife said it was the best gluten free breakfast sandwich she'd had and the kids loved their pancakes and pb & j poptart. We ordered curbside pickup for brunch. The staff was very friendly and welcoming! Our order included: mushroom boost coffee, biscuit sandwich, spicy fried chicken biscuit sandwich, and biscuits with jam/honey butter. I love mushrooms, but was skeptical about mushrooms in my coffee. There is absolutely 0 taste of mushroom and the coffee was delicious. The biscuit sandwich was TRULY the best breakfast sandwich I have ever had. The biscuit was crusted with cheese in the best way possible. The spicy fried chicken sandwich was good as well--the chicken tasted fresh and had a hint of spiciness. The biscuit was also very fresh and gooey with a crispy shell. Mediocre at best food for unreasonably high prices. My friends and I visited the restaurant for brunch and collectively spent roughly $90 here (4 people). After one of my friends decided to not leave a tip for his grossly overpriced meal, a hostess approached him and inquired for a reason as to why he chose to leave no tip. I go out to eat at local restaurants and cafes pretty often and I can confidently say that this was the worst experience I had in a while. This is our new favorite breakfast/brunch place in the area! The food is fun, creative, and most importantly, delicious! Their outdoor patio is really nice and the customer service we received was amazing. We ordered the fried chicken sandwich, lemon hibiscus pop-tart, and the crab cakes for our food and everything was great. We'll definitely be keeping track of what pop-tarts they currently have so that we can try as many as possible! This is my absolute favorite restaurant in AH. In fact it belongs in a quaint street in Paris but our area is lucky. The chef and owners have hand crafted cuisine for every diet and every tastebud and every ingredient is fresh. You can tell the pride that goes into each dish. The bowls, pastries, coffees, bloody Mary's and fried chicken are a few of my go-tos. I can't say enough good things about the food! Also the cleanliness is impeccable. They sanitize every nook and cranny, have a UV light room sanitizer and each staff member wears masks and gloves at all times. In addition they enforce social distancing. We moved from the city last year and haven't found a restaurant that could match the quality of food/drink and ambiance until we went to scratchboard. So cool inside and the food was amazing and we are hard to please. I had the fried chicken sandwich and my wife had the lox toast. The chicken was the best sandwich I've ever had. Better that hopleaf, budlong, roost, honey butter friend chicken....all of them. Lydia was our server and she was so kind and personable. My wife's lox was amazing. He was not friendly and instead acting coldly towards their simple requests of a hot cup of coffee and cream for their coffee. He prioritized other (white) customers. I hate to write this, for the food was quite tasty & fresh, but the hostility I received, for a snafu in communication, was so unnecessary, embarrassing and uncalled for that I wanted to make sure no one else makes the mistake I made, when planning to eat lunch, al fresco, in this eatery. I was SO excited to, finally, be in downtown Arlington Hts. early enough to try this little place of intrigue. They close at 3pm, which I LOVE. It means they aren't a "jack of all trades, master of none"-type of restaurant. They have a niche' and they stick to it. I was pretty jazzed to be there. I have been doing my due diligence supporting local, independent eateries all during Covid protocols. I worked in the restaurant biz for 9 years, so I understand how damaging these lockdowns have been, to owners. Being so warm, for an early, April day, I decided to do a bike ride around time, having my final stop be Scratchboard. Upon rolling up with my bike, I looked in my basket and declared, "****. My mask flew away, somewhere along the ride". Now, NO ONE was wearing a mask, eating outside, which was fine, for the tables were well-spaced and the wind was blowing. I, too, wished to dine al fresco. I stood and waited, while servers and a busser passed me by. I saw the sandwich board declaring that if I wanted a seat, I had to see the hostess, inside. I looked at the busser and asked, "I don't have a mask. How can I go in to ask for an, outdoor, table?" He told me masks were provided, at the hostess stand. Since I am NOT an "anti-masker", I felt sheepish about entering but, alas, I hiked my shirt over my face & nose, placed my hand over this and stood at least EIGHT ft. from the hostess stand. I made sure I was near no one, upon entering the lobby. I quickly told the young hostess that I lost my mask on a bike ride but would like to eat outside. I saw a box of masks, on the hostess stand. I asked if I could have one, for when the waitress approaches me, outside, even though NO OTHER customers were exhibiting this protocol, al fresco. She looked a bit flustered but said, "O.K". Just then, another woman saddled up next to the young hostess and started, loudly, BERATING me for coming in and not having a mask. As I backed up and told her I just wanted to eat lunch, outside and lost my mask (all the while having my face covered with shirt & hand) and could I please have one from the pile on her hostess stand, she continued, through hostility, telling me to LEAVE the restaurant, get outside and she would have someone help me, shortly. I was NEVER within 6ft of this woman, or her employees, indoors. Naturally, since her voice was raised, heads were turned. I was so humiliated. How ironic that the indoor diners were maskless, when eating and drinking but somehow Covid knows to only spread, human to human, when you are asking for a mask and not drinking your second glass of wine, indoors, as the staff needs to approach you, to serve you. Snarky as it sounds, somehow science and decency have left the building.... When the flustered, young hostess came out to find me a table, she was NOT holding a mask (I was willing to pay for it). She held only a card with a scan code. I apologized. Being an older folk, I do not have scan capabilities. I just wanted to see a good ol', paper menu. I was still locking my bike up when I told her this. As I asked where she would like me to sit, she disappeared back inside. So, tail between my legs and shirt over my face, as I passed the other, al fresco diners, I watched as the unkind woman approached my table with a mask, a paper menu and a serious, chip on her shoulder. I said, "Thank you for your kindness" and I meant it, for I am sure all these eateries are flooded with people being defiant about the Governor's orders for dining. My issue is...I WAS NOT ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE. I was apologetic, from the get-go, was told to go inside if I wanted an outdoor table and was STILL berated, loudly, when I tried to explain that I needed a mask. My lunch was tasty. The food was excellent. As I saw that a storm was approaching and I was on my bike, I asked the server to settle up, with me, so that if the storm came, I could leave, quickly. Also, the LAST thing I wanted to do was to continue my lunch, inside. I was still, quite humiliated from the earlier exchange. After a 25% tip, my bill was $41.00 for an Impossible burger sausage sandwich, on a delicious, bountiful biscuit, a side of HEAVENLY, cheddar cheese grits (I've never had better) and one glass of Oregon, Pinot Noir. I never saw an itemized bill, just a total. Since the sky was turning black, in the distance, I didn't want to question how I spent this much $. I just wanted to leave, safely and with some semblence of my dignity intact. I think as we all try to navigate through our "new normal", kindness & understanding, to guests and employees alike, will keep us ALL in business. I usually don't write reviews but I just had to for this place. I found out about it through Facebook. I went there with my toddler, baby and mother in law. Where do I even begin? First of all, this has got to be one of the cutest restaurants I've ever seen. The pictures don't do it justice, you have to see it for yourself. It is just beautiful. After I was done admiring all of the design elements, I focused on the menu. The menu is short but I really do believe there is something for everyone. My kids enjoyed their French toast dunkers (with Greek yogurt funfetti dip). The portion is beyond generous. We actually had leftovers to take home. (We won't tell the kids, but I've been eating their leftovers since we got home and the French toast is delicious!) I had the lox on toast and my mother in law had the breakfast biscuit sandwich. Again, generous portion size- both of us were almost done with ours but we were getting so full, we just had to stop. I also had a chai lavender iced latte. It was SO GOOD!!! Needless to say, what a great first impression! I CAN NOT wait to come back again and try something else.
