Tried this place while in the area on a work trip and we had a great experience. Staff was attentive and helpful and I could not have asked for more. Our food was good as well and I do wish I would have gotten the catfish I kept eyeing the gentleman's plate at another table but woe is me - maybe next time. The food and service were excellent!! I had the chicken apple salad, but I substituted a crab cake for an additional $7. The prices are very reasonable, and the food was so good!! I hate to say anything negative about this wonderful place, but my one and only criticism is that the interior could use an overhaul (fresh paint, etc), and the restrooms definitely need a deep clean (possibly a fresh coat of paint). The walls, doors and light switches were visibly filthy. It always makes me question how clean the kitchen is when the restrooms are not clean and obviously haven't been for quite a long time. Those are all that kept it from a 5 star review. But, those things are so easily remedied, and the food is truly excellent!! First and foremost, the food was excellent! One thing to know is you need a reservation for Sunday brunch. The good news is, we got lucky on Mother's Day and they worked us in! So, super positive experience with the hostess. My only complaint and the reason I didn't rate them at 5 stars was our waitress. Ultimate, she did okay but from the get go she was complaining how busy it was, how she couldn't wait until shift was over, and she was glad we didn't order water with lemon because keeping up with lemons was a pain! What?! She was just odd. It gave us something to laugh about during our visit but that is something that crawls all over my wife and me. We came out to eat because we wanted someone to wait on us, cool our food and do the dishes. We don't really care about how you feel about your job or current shift. This place is an absolute treat. Set in a former turn of the century Catholic boarding school, we were surrounded by amateur art on the walls which most were for sale. We were there for lunch but I think it would lend itself to quite the romantic setting at night. My partner and I both sampled hamburgers which were excellent. I didn't read the description well and ordered the "screen door" so I was totally unprepared for the monstrosity set down in front of me. Held together by a steak knife, only the handle was visible. The 6 oz patty had a massive amount of onion rings on top with arugula, shaved lettuce, red onion and tomato rounding out the display. It was all served on a fresh and delicious brioche bun. My only failing was I missed that it was served with stone ground mustard. I don't care for it and should have requested another condiment but I ate it and didn't regret it. My partner's smash burger was very tasty and served with similar accompaniments minus the onions rings. Therefore, his burger was only about 4" tall instead of the 8" monster I tackled and I really regret we didn't get pictures! We both chose not to order fries but sampled some of the other sides offered. I chose coleslaw and I have to say I didn't eat much of it. There were some spices in it that just didn't set right with me although I know a lot of folks would be very pleased with it. The other side on the table was their take on Mac and cheese. I would order this all day, any day and twice on Sunday! It was made with large elbows which tasted as if they were boiled in chicken broth then shredded chicken was added to the mix. We also ordered a piece of pie each although after that meal, most of those went into a to-go box. The peanut butter pie had a graham cracker crust with a layer of melted chocolate then a peanut butter mixture piled about 4-5 inches high on top of that. It was very peanutty and huge so I probably should have just ordered that as my lunch. I would like to see a layer of chocolate to downplay the overwhelming peanut butter but then again, I'm a sucker for chocolate and peanut butter together. The other pie was a chocolate pecan which was okay but that's one pie that should be served warm to bring all the flavors forward. Otherwise, it was just another pecan pie variation that one can get at several restaurants. Our waiter was very personable and extremely knowledgeable about the site and the food served and gave some excellent recommendations. We thoroughly enjoyed our conversations with him. Would I go back? You betcha! There's a lot of menu yet to discover and I have friends in Bledsoe county that I will ensure know about this place. read more

I love when restaurants repurpose old places and this house is perfect. Parking is limited, so if you're going with a group highly recommend carpooling. Also, call ahead and get a reservation. Seating is limited and in cooler or rainy weather there really isn't anywhere to wait without being in the way of staff. The food is amazing! We had fried green tomatoes, apple salad and chicken parm. The FGT came with three topped with pimento cheese, plenty big enough to share with multiple people. The salad was massive and paired nicely with the honey dressing. Chicken parm was some of the best I've had in years!! Everything was fresh and came to the table fairly quickly. Almost every Sunday, without fail, my wife and I go to Screen Door for their brunch. I am a faithful connoisseur of their Eggs Benedict, while my wife enjoys their Sausage Mushroom Omelette. It is extremely rare to find such quality food in our small town. Beyond their brunch, their burgers are top notch with loads of flavor, along with their Soul Rolls--which, I would HIGHLY recommend. This is partly because we wanted to also have dessert. The peanut butter pie was a new thing for me-I really liked it but can't compare it to others. Traveling through. We always look for independently owned restaurants. We enjoyed a meatloaf and catfish lunch. Meatloaf was delicious as were the potatoes and gravy. Two of us got catfish plates, my wife got shrimp linguini, my youngest got a pulled pork sandwich, and I had Mrs. Perrywinkle Cajun chicken sandwich. From start to finish this was an incredible meal. Mac & cheese and homemade potato salad complimented the entrees and the portions were huge. Great food!! Missing item on our order. Waitress said she'd correct it, but never came back. No drink refills. Eggs were cooked wrong (requested over-easy): one was solid yolk. The other egg the whites were still clear and raw on the inside and inedible. Ants crawling on the floor, the chairs behind us had spider webs on them, and in the hall to the bathroom there were multiple spiders on the ceiling. Half of our meal was quite good: my wife said the sausage in the omelet was flavorful although the egg portion wasn't light and fluffy but heavy and dense. High ceilings and long windows. I ordered the chicken club sandwich and a side of Cajun vegetables. The sandwich wasn't bad but not wow either. The food here is always amazing. Everything I have had here has been fresh, expertly cooked, and high quality. We like their brunch where they have traditional breakfast fare and some experimental southern inspired dishes, none of them have ever disappointed. The French press coffee is also a must. The service has been consistently good with very nice, attentive staff. Sometimes on busy days the food can take a little while to come out, this wasn't a problem just something good to know if you're in a rush. Ambiance is very rustic. It is set in an old home and has southern charm. It's a little older but they do a good job keeping it clean. There was a pretty significant amount of flies there. While they do have some measures in place to control them there were still a lot. It may have more to do with the time of year than any fault of the restaurant, but that is the only reason why I didn't give them a full 5 stars. read more
