Service was abysmal; the space was not very clean and was a bit too loud (a groomer was there at the same time and working openly within the bathing space). This groomer was also talking with a friend while grooming a dog and was blowing the cut hair all around and also into our tub (which was not even clean when we started out). When I mentioned this to the staffer, she was oddly indifferent about our having to deal with the untidy tub and even offered to explain that it was because of the grooming going on. Scrub a Pup charges $15 for DIY bath - which is more than the going rate- Unleashed in San Mateo is a much better set-up, is very clean and costs $10 - the staff is friendly and super helpful. For $12 you can go to Pawtrero (in SF)- really nice, boutique place with super nice set-up. I think Petsmart charges $12. read more

I took my Havanese to another groomer when really politely I was asked: "are you grooming him yourself?" So I decided to write this review. I've tried resolving my issue with Chrissie, unfortunately all I was offered was $10.00 towards my NEXT service. With an attitude no fault of theirs. Chrissie is arrogant apparently customer service is not her strongest suit. On April 26, Wednesday, my Havanese when in for a bath, blow and 3 point trim. By the looks NO trim, I called, Thurs & Fri, did not leave a message, Saturday I left a message, no response. Sent an email to Chrissie the following Monday. Between April 29 and past Monday May 6, we exchanged emails and one brief phone call. Pretty much calling me a liar with no apology of any kind. I also told her about full trim he got at the end of March, when I picked him up, I was not pleased, I did not get what I asked for, his body was almost shaved, his face and head looked big. After a couple of weeks the outgrowth was shaggy and uneven, eventually I decided to take him in for another appointment on my dime. Chrissie insisted that her assistant manager did call a couple of times and actually left me a voice message, that she recognized my voice!!!! HA really? I've no clue who the assistant manager is! We all have cell phones and all calls are documented. Then to find out what I was charged was not what was on the books, I do leave a tip always in the jar as requested CASH only. I had my dog bathed and a sanitary trim today and I was really upset when I picked him up. The groomer had shaved his back end down to the skin and also left a knick on his skin. It was also not even on both sides. The owner was not there so they called her and all she could say was take 5$ off. I wish she could have seen my poor dog. Jessica is such a great dog groomer... I recently started to groom my dog with a pro because i just work too much, used to just do it myself. I brought my little tiny shitzu in the first time and was a little skeptical but when she was done, Isis (my dog) was so happy and everything was taken care of, nails, wash, cut, everything and for a pretty good price... but the second time I took her I wanted her hair cut short because it grows super fast, was pretty worried the whole time. But when I saw how perfectly Isis was I was so happy, she did such a great job on my little girl... We have a 4 mo old poodle mix who was getting a bit stinky! I knew down the line he'd need a haircut, but wanted to test this spot out with just a bath to see how it went and if we felt comfortable having them cut his hair in a. follow up appt. I specifically ONLY booked a bath and specified over the phone that we did not want or need a haircut. Upon pick up he looked nice and fluffy and they mentioned they trimmed his bangs since it was in his eyes a bit, not what I booked, but fine. Once we got home I realized they had trimmed the hair around his bum and shaved his belly giving him razor burn all over his belly - including his downstairs parts. Overall he just looked itchy and frankly, it was unnecessary. Upon closer inspection, they also trimmed the hair around his paws/nails and it was jagged. I absolutely understand that during COVID times they likely took a financial hit and are trying to be helpful/provide good customer service/go above and beyond. However, I specifically did not book a hair cut, I only booked a bath, and the haircut they did was not at all what I would have asked for -especially the razor burn!! Poor pup! Two stars for the bath (clean and smells good), price ($55), and efficiency (~ 1.5 hours). Overall the bath seemed fine, he smelled nice, but I don't intend on coming back as this first time was not a good experience. read more

Place is showing it's age. The shampoo they give you for your dog is very watered down and you end up using the whole bottle that they fill for you. The mats in the bathtub are really dirty and the towels are very worn. Also the dryers they have are old and it takes a long time to dry. read more

$15 for self wash and they give you the shampoo, tubs (which are standing height so you don't have to bend over), scissors if you ask for them, and a huge blow dryer. I prefer this place over washing my dog in my front yard just for the convenience of the dryer and the nice warm water. read more

I took my large (85+) Golden Retriever there for a bath and grooming and he came out just great. Nice place, easy access, nice people, reasonable price. He was ready when promised. This was my first visit and I do not have any other groomers to compare to but I was very satisfied and will definitely return there again. My dog is a "tad" high-strung so I was worried about how he would behave...but he was quite the trooper and was lounging comfortably on a grooming table when I went to pick him up, looking as if he did not have a care in the world. This is just a rating for the self service dog wash. Reasonable prices for self service; I like the elevated tubs, which make it a lot easier on your back for giving dogs a bath. Yes, i could do it at home in my own tub, but it's not elevated so it's better for me to come here and do it; and I also don't have to clean up afterwards when I do't do it at home:-). They also have hooks in the wall for you to attach a collar on your dog so that s/he stays put. The place is showing it's age and if they can't do major renovations they could at least do little things like replace the towels for a better drying experience (the towels are pretty ratty and don't absorb water or dry well at all), or not water down the shampoo as much. Also the dryers don't work too well. There are a lot of newer self service places that have recently opened (associated with corporate pet stores), which are much nicer but I do come here on occasion to support local small business.. I am not rating the grooming services - I did bring my dog here a few years back for a nail trim and it was a bloody affair - literally, I was helping to hold him and his blood splattered all over my pants - no denying it. I did not let them finish the job, and that was the last time I let them touch him. Obviously, if I was rating on their grooming service, they might not get any stars at all. read more

So yesterday I took my bully pup to the dog park , she got extremely dirty with her friends and afterwards I decided to take her for a self wash. So I pulled up at my favorite place Petco Unleashed for their wonderful $10 no tax included, self wash. But they were vacated from the premises.. Gone no where to be found. So I'm scrounging around trying to find a place at 5pm and I stumble upon scrub a pup, instantly they brought me right to the bathing area and gave me shampoo, tearless face wash, conditioner , ear cleaner, towels, robe, brush and a blow dryer . It was great the cost ended up as $15 total. The reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the conditioner was watered down and really had no smell to it and also they charge $1 extra if you want conditioner. In the end though I will come back because it is down the street from my home , but I will bring my own conditioner. Very clean place and very friendly staff. read more

Today I was referred to Scrub-A-Pup by Petsmart in San Carlos for a simple nail trim. My baby girl Hina was just diagnosed with terminal Liver Cancer with only a few months to live, is in hospice and has been in and out of UC Davis, she's doing ok but.needless to say she is a little gun shy with more new people and getting handled. I can't remember who I spoke when I called but after sharing with them the above they said no problem at all ...bring her in we will take care of her. When I arrived I was met with Sara. She was amazing, accommodating, gentle, compassionate and just the sweetest. She was more than willing to do the trim in the back seat of my Jeep so I wouldn't have to cause any anxiety to my baby girl. After offering a cookie for being such a good girl, we were done, Sara is an amazing human being and did an amazing job accommodating our situation, I am grateful for this shop being flexible and thank you to Petsmart in SC for referring us. This place is oozing out cuteness.. i enjoy the fact that the tubs are waist level which helps a lot.. i also like how they have the hook on 2 different sides of the wall so when you are drying a large all white husky you can do one side, then switch hooks and turn the dog around and do the other side.. i think it is awesome that they sell treats there because i dont know about other dogs, but cyris hates the drying part and a treat is always needed when he is done.. and the treats are super cute.. they have doughnut shaped to fire hydrant shaped treats.. also you can make an appointment and have them clean your dog for you or else you can just handle it yourself.. they have shampoo and whitening stuff that you can buy there as well.. its pretty cheap if you do it yourself.. and the best part.. they clean up after you! yes that's right.. no dog hair in your tub! haha love it! read more

I recently told a fellow dog-owner about Scrub-a-Pup, and she scoffed at the idea of spending $15 to use somebody else's bathtub to wash a dog. Well, hello, she has itty-bitty dogs that she can wash in the kitchen sink! I have a hefty 65-pounder, and my back aches whenever I have to bend down to wash him at home. Also, all the hair that's been shed leaves a mess. I have been taking my dog to Scrub-a-Pup since he was a puppy, and, although he just sits and glares at me while I scrub him down, he has a noticeable spring in his step as soon as we walk out and he smells clean and fresh. I usually bring my own shampoo, since the kind they have is watered down (the pup gets quite grimy on occasion, so I need the full-strength tea tree oil), but they are happy to give me the mild one for his face. read more

I brought my dog in to get groomed about 8 months ago, after trying out another groomer a few times thought it was necessary to write a review. Briana groomed my dog, she is rude and unprofessional as well. I asked her a simple question about clipping my dogs nails, due to a bad experience somewhere else and her response was why would we do that here?! Ok, simple question just answer yes or no, not sorry for being over protective of my dog, no need to get an attitude be professional! I get a call a few hours later, my dog is ready to be picked up. My dog is black and white, before I dropped him off his white fur had no stains whatsoever. I pick him up, Briana was extremely nice... I thought strange no attitude?! I get home and my husband and I notice dark brown stains on his white paws, a huge gash on his ear with dry blood, and the next day his skin was pink and extremely irritated. Smh! I should've never paid for this service and took him back right away, but w.e I won't be returning. At least tell me that you cut my dogs ear, like really? Did you think I would not notice?! Most horrible job ever! I'd rather groom my dog myself. I definitely do not recommend scrub a pup. read more

I found this wonderful place too late! Scrub-A-Pup nail trim is amazingly great yet the price is much cheaper than other grooming salons, even cheaper than pet grooming chains like Petco and Petsmart. I watched their grooming full services, really loved their works. I could not find a place to have my dog nails well trimmed until walked in Scrub-A-Pup. A groomer (will ask her name on next visit) did fabulous job with $10 charge. One more thing I like Scrub-A-Pup is their grooming works including shampooing are open to see by the dog owners. Also, they provide self-service bathing for $15. read more

This place gets 5 starts despite 2 minor issues: not open late enough and only one person seems to be doing all the work (she's running ragged, poor girl). I love it here and will be back probably once a week. And they have deSKUNKING ability, something I always worry about. I came to this place because of the great reviews and recommended by a dog owner I met at the park. However, I will not recommend this place for grooming. I owe a poodle/Maltese mix. I brought Teddie here for full grooming on his birthday. The staffs were friendly. I met the groomer Brianna and gave her the instruction that I want a cute teddy bear cut for Teddie and just trimming is needed. I asked when I can pick him up, she said probably takes 1.5-2 hours. The last couple times I brought Teddie in for grooming somewhere else, it took them 3 hours for the same full grooming service. I was curious how she could do the same with half the time. 2 hours later, Teddie was ready. I sent my brother to pick him up. My brother saw he was "surprised" to see Teddie with such short hair. When he brought Teddie back home, I was like...OMG! I wouldn't have recognized him if he didnt run to me. Teddie's hair was so short and why he looked like a rat! He was like a teddy beat before! his fur were not evenly cut! you can obviously see the inconsistency. His facial hair was cut with "edges" not round and smooth at all. The hairs inside his ears were left uncut which I specifically mentioned to Brianna that his ear needed some trimming. Not to mention his legs. Some longer hairs were left uncut. It seems like she did it in a hurry. I asked 5 of my dog-owner friends and they all agreed that the groomer didnt do a good job. I was very disappointed with their grooming service and did not expect to pay $50 for this kind of sloppy job done by a professional groomer. I will never bring Teddie back to this place again. read more
