We went to Scutra last night based on Yelp reviews, and we were not disappointed. We had the pumpkin apple cider bisque soup and a salmon-shrimp filo dough wrap for appetizers; both were amazing, full of subtle flavors. The chocolate lava cake we shared for dessert was also remarkable; it was just enough and not too sweet. My only criticism is largely avoidable: make your reservations several days in advance to get the time you want. Otherwise, it was fantastic. We will definitely be going back. read more

Really good food, really tepid service. The dishes are inventive and well seasoned and there's a nice choice of wine. Unfortunately, our waitress was a dysthymic library science grad student who seemed to think playing hard to get was the key to good service. When she first came to the table she leaned with her bare palms on the opening of the water pitcher. Maybe she just washed them, but it looked vaguely unsanitary and a tad bizarre. Service was always two beats behind leisurely, and after she brought the check she stood at the bar with her back to us and chatting with another waitress for about 15 minutes. We finally had to go get her and ask her to take our credit card. Again just odd. I know I sound like a bitter narcissist, but this kind of lameness can really put a damper on a nice meal. read more

It's a hit or miss. The drinks and apps are fantastic, especially the mussels. The entrees are a hit or miss. I've been to Scutra many times. The last time was early September when they offered the $20 app and entree special. Again, the app was delicious, but my cioppino entree was bland. No spices, pasta was overcooked. My friend ordered the minute steak. Again, hers was bland. The waitress was non existent. When she did come around, she had a rude attitude. The bus-girl wouldn't leave us alone. She kept asking if we were finished. We clearly were not finished,especially with our utensils in our hands. read more

The food isn't as good as it used to be and is less flavorful than we remembered. Service was ok but not as before. We asked what the side vegetables were and the server told us and then walked away neglecting to ask if we wanted any. Both fish dishes were soaked in oil and butter with little flavor. Decent wine list but the chef ought to feel he/she can be more experimental with authentic Mediterranian flavors. We're wondering why we couldn't "go home again" at Scutra. read more

What is the problem? This place is GREAT! Service was first class attentive, entertaining and professional. The meal was first class from the bread, to the warm spinach salad, to the absolutely frickin' outrageous baked stuffed lobster...OMG. We had a terrific meal here. Full disclosure, we had been avid fans of Scutra, then had a pretty "meh" meal here a while back, but we decided to give it another shot, and boy, am I glad we did. We had the pumpkin soup and mozzarella salad for starters, which were good, but the entrees were exceptional: beef tenderloin wrapped in bacon, short ribs with homemade gnocchi - which came in the form of a stew which I wasn't expecting but the sauce was exceptional. My son had the salmon with blueberry sauce which made me raise my eyebrows a bit but it was really good. The desserts were really creative, we had fried lemon cheesecake, banana crepe with chocolate sauce but the winner was the pumpkin bread pudding. Also, I have to add that we had just gotten back from France where we drank a lot of coffee but the coffee I had at Scutra was better than any we drank over there! Yes, it was turbo, but it was my kind of turbo! All this to say, if you haven't been there, go, if you had a so-so experience, give it another shot. The staff was delightful. read more

We love Scutra as our go-to local place for a nice meal or when friends are in town for a visit. The atmosphere is nice and cozy, the chef is always there checking everything out and the staff are friendly and professional. There is something for everyone on the menu and the seafood is great. First timer and loved it. Ordered an array of apps (two to start and two as a meal), fish tacos, goat cheese briquette, warm spinach salad, and baked mussels) and the short rib ravioli. All were excellent, although the baked mussels were a bit salty. Creme brûlée and coffee were divine. Service was lovely. Only complaint is that the waitress brought our bill without prompting during our dessert course, an ultimate pet peeve of mine. What a fantastic hidden gem. Clearly family run, and their reputation hangs on the line with every patron. The space is inviting, the people more so, and the food is just outstanding. We've recruited numerous people to go here rather than the typical candidate restaurants that you think of (either because you pass them or because they are in vogue). I wish I can say more nice things about this place but I cant because it would not be fair to Manny people that go to dine there, Scutra should be this amazing french restaurant that provides amazing foods. It is not, the food is greasy and weird. like mixing the figs, mushrooms, vine and bacon and making the sauce of it....didnt work for us. service was OK, and the price was outrageous not go there because even if the ambiance is very nice the food and the price will not be. read more

Scutra is very good. This was my second trip to Scutra and I think I was more fond of the food than I was previously. Our appetizer was excellent and so were both entrees. The bread they give you before the meal is amazing. I thought everything was cooked well and tasted good. I would like to give 5 stars but I was not particularly happy with the service we had. We were sitting at the bar on a relatively not busy weeknight but I had to wait for drinks a number of times and he was not particularly attentive. It did appear as though he knew one of the other couples at the bar and they were getting most of his attention. I almost have to rate Scutra 3stars because of that but I don't think it is a fair representation of the restaurant as a whole and I hope that this is not a common occurrence. Overall, very good food, nice atmosphere, no hassle of going in to the city. Also, the price is definitely right. Most entrees were under $20 which for a high end restaurant in the Boston area is almost unheard of (Hungry Mother). I will be back to Scutra I'm sure read more

My wife and I dined here last night. It was a Saturday night and it was busy. The service was excellent. The waiter was attentive and informed. My wife is Vegan and this often presents a problem. Not this time. The spring rolls appetizer is vegan and my wife said these were the best spring rolls she had ever tasted. The vegan entree was modified from the regular menu. It was a gnocci with spinach, eggplant, tomatoes, zucchini. She said it was delicious. In fact, the chef came out to ask my wife some questions regarding the ingredients- very considerate. I had a tomatoe salad with grilled feta cheese followed by the parmasan crusted veal. The salad was OK though the presentation was beautiful. The Veal was tender, nicely spiced. Dessert was a beautiful and delicious plum tart tatin with vanilla ice cream. All in all an excellent choice and we'll definitely add it to our regular haunts. Its always great to find a fine restaurant that can accomodate vegans. Lastly, we thought the prices were very reasonable. The entrees ran about $18 each and I typically see conpareable restaurants charging in the $25-$30 range. read more

At Scutra, you know the food was made with Love! There are no ordinary sauces complimenting the dishes, everything was perfectly paired! We were excited to find such a nice restaurant within walking distance of our new home. Scutra has a romantic and warm ambiance and the staff are all friendly and attentive. We have two kids under 5 so it's often tough to find somewhere that we enjoy eating but where the kids are also welcome. Everyone at Scutra went above and beyond to make us all feel welcome, from bringing little bowls of berries for the kids to snack on while they waited; to our server getting down other level as he explained the specials to us so they felt included. The chef even made sure that our youngest sons meal was cut up into smaller pieces so it was easier for him to eat. The food doesn't disappoint either, we had a fantastic meal with some really tasty wine and beer pairings and look forward to coming back and trying many other things on the interesting menu. read more

We live blocks from this restaurant an never went knowing it was a more expensive restaurant with very mixed reviews, but we finally went and are so glad we did. Everything on the menu looked phenomenal but I ordered the mahi mahi over lobster mashed potatoes and my boyfriend ordered the bacon wrapped filet mignon and both meals were absolutely incredible! The meats were cooked and seasoned to perfection and the meals themselves were unique and delicious. We loved our meals so much we had dessert, which we never do! As a food lover I completely recommend Scutra for a date night or nice meal! The back patio was perfect for a summer night. read more

My lady and I stop by Scutra every few months, and the skills of the chef are always appreciated, crafting creative flourishes around traditional and new ingredients. I love the lighter fare - tonight's vegetarian entree and baked mussel app were divine, and B's duck breast entree was to-die-for: savory and succulent beyond words. The house cocktails are always excellent as well, and the wine list (according to B) Is excellent. On the other hand, some dishes are too rich for even my craven palate (roasted bacon-wrapped romaine, eww) and the beer list, while improving, needs a lot more local love (hey, I'm allergic to red wine). Lastly, the new outdoor patio on the Bikeway is really awesome and really worth seeking out while the warm weather lasts (full disclosure - I would like it even better with a hipper playlist that excludes Abba and Olivia Newton John, try moving to jazz folks). Scene: Table of 9 women. Excellent service from Anthony our server all evening long. He was fantastic w his professionalism, beginning w allowing us to sample our individual wine choices patiently. Bread; real w flavor, yummy butter. Chef -- A hidden gem. Appetizer; wow try the artichoke, very different and delicious. Salad; fresh and just the right size. Great timing w food delivered to our table hot and all at the same time (9 of us) Many of us chose the seafood special which isn't on the regular menu, a seabass grilled, 2 Large shrimp, accompanied by an heirloom tomato salad, superb flavors plated in a lovely manner. My wife and I have been going to Scutra for the past 2 years, as our children go to high school nearby. It is a fairly busy restaurant and we visit every 30 days. I have always enjoyed my experiences. Good service, great wine selection, great food, good ambiance and friendly personnel. However, I'm a skeptic, and I keep waiting for something to go bad. After 15+ visits we have yet to have a bad experience. Recently we agreed that we've been to the high-end steak places and the authentic Italian restaurants of Boston but we have yet to have a better meal at a better price than at Scutra. Reasonable priced, very creative meals with friendly service and warm environment. We've found ourselves there every other week for the past many months! There's a reason for that. read more

The food was very good! We enjoyed our meals. The sevice was a bit lacking, however. We had confirmed reservations, but the hostess was surprised to see us, seated us 20 minutes late, and seated other parties of 2 while we waited. She never apologized, refused to make eye contact, never smiled and avoided speaking to us all together. She seemed angry (about her own mistake?). She is in the wrong profession! She made us feel very unwelcome, like we had done something wrong. The server was flustered at first, and started describing specials in detail before we had water or had placed a drink order. I ordered a Mai Tai to drink, which threw the server for a loop, she seemed to have not hear of that drink before. I was quickly presented with a bright blue Pearl Harbor! I sent it back and the bartender brought a wonderful rum punch and presented it with a friendly chat. It was really good, but it was not a Mai Tai. Whatever. After that, the service and food were both wonderful and we had a great time. read more

The lamb chops were cooked to perfection and the vegetarian entrée was outstanding (and we're not vegetarians!). The dessert, a fried tortilla with cheesecake was delicious. If you want to feel like you've gone to Europe for a meal, look no farther than Scutra. Lovely atmosphere, top notch tastes, wonderful wait staff and authentic European charm. Didier the chef is from Belgium and it shows in the home style cooking with a mix of fancier specialties, almost all with a connection to Belgium. This is a place to go for a romantic evening and as it is very small it is essential to make reservations for larger parties. We have gone several times and the food is always superb!
