Excellent service! My refrigerator, dishwasher, and coffee maker all stopped working at the same time, and so I knew it was an electrical problem. Unfortunately, it was after hours on Saturday evening. I contacted a dozen places that claimed to be open 24/7, and they either didn't answer or told me they weren't available. I finally found someone who said he'd come Sunday morning but then he texted me the same morning cancelling the appointment. On Sunday morning, I called SDS and Josh personally answered the phone. In March, Josh came to the cafe I work at. He was extremely and overwhelmingly condescending and rude to me upon meeting, so much so that me and my coworker were caught off guard, seeing as we had done nothing to him to earn that. He was repeatedly demeaning, treating me as if I were stupid. He then ordered a drink and asked for a discount, to which my coworker said no to, especially since seeing how he treated me. Josh proceeded to call me a homophobic slur. I reported him to my company, with my coworker as a witness. The person who hired him, defended him, stating that he "just had a bad day". Many of us have bad days, and it is no excuse to call someone a slur. He defended himself, saying we were rude to him first. A blatant lie, I have a witness, and not good enough of a reason to be calling people slurs. Unfortunately, seeing as I saw him get called in to my cafe a month ago after a plumbing issue in my workplace, he was not fired or even banned from coming back, by his company or even my company. He was, again, rude, condescending, and treated me as if I were stupid. But that is to be expected from someone with hate inside them. Los Angeles is rated as one of the safest cities to be LGBT, and likely has one of the highest populations of LGBT people in the world. Josh should not be working, sent out to the field, in a city where he potentially cannot handle being violently hateful to the people he should be helping. Seeing as how I was dressed in basic clothes and acting neutrally at work, I can't imagine how much more hateful he would be to someone who was more outwardly gay. I have had no follow up from my company as to whether anything can or will be done, and based on the fact that Josh is still able to work and be sent here, I will at least leave this review. I made it my goal not to blindly hire just any electrician. Instead, I did my research as a layman, and did my best to compare Apples-to-Apples where hiring an Electrician to perform the installation of my ChargePoint EV Charger (220v) was concerned. SDS Electric responded promptly. Their service quote came in better than most. And when I informed them that I would require proof of their Contractor's License, Liability Insurance as they would be needed for me to complete the rebate documentation as required by LADWP, they didn't hesitate to inform me of their license and insurance information. On the day of service they sent two Technicians. They arrived early, immediately began setting up the tools/equipment they knew they would require to satisfy my task, and waited quietly for my arrival. Just the way they prepped for my project they calmed me fears. At each step of the installation they were sure to keep me informed about what they would be doing, and they even ask me what my preferences were as to the placement of my EV Charger. I'm a minimalist who believes a garage is for vehicles, period, and nothing else. And although I haven't yet reached that aesthetic goal yet, the items that I have neatly stacked along the left side wall of my garage (i. e. full sheets of drywall, plywood, etc.) the SDS Techs weren't the least bit affected. They carefully relocated those items safely, freeing up the installation area and quickly went to work installing my EV Charger. Even though my electric panels (Main & sub) were full, they were still able to perform a professional installation of my brand new 50 Amp circuit breakers and ran my conduit with artist's precision. After the Techs completed the installation, they neatly stocked my items out of the way to allow the City Inspector (LADBS) to easily gain access to the entire work site. The very next day, precisely as Josh (Supervsior) has assured me they would, the city inspector showed up, on time. The professionalism of SDS Electric continued on into the following day. Before the LADBS Inspector has arrived one of the SDS Techs who performed the actual installation of my EV Charger the day before had arrived, with tools in hand ready to tweak whatever the Inspector wanted adjusting. When the Inspector checked the work product at my electrical panels (Main & sub) he moved into inspect the installation of my Charger itself. In conclusion, not a single solitary adjustment or modification was requested by the Inspector. The installation was a complete success! I don't have a single bad thing to say or a constructive critique to offer SDS Electric. Not only would I HIGHLY recommend this company, but I absolutely shall hire them in the near future. read more

The HOA of my place sent Josh out to fix the issue. Seems like Josh was familiar with the place and the issues that we had been having here. On the first day, he tried to clear the clog with a snake and was unsuccessful. However, he said he would be back and would contact me to let me know when he would be back to fix the issue. A few days later I get a text and he is on his way to permanently fix the problem. He came back with an even bigger piece of equipment and after an hour or so was able to fix my drain! While it did take longer than I expected, the issues that we had run into were understandable and in the end, the issue was fixed. Josh was professional and quite fun to talk to. I hired SDS Electric after receiving 4 other quotes from Yelp! Josh came out did the visual assessment and explained the steps needed to provide me with a new 220a panel upgrade, installation of a Tesla charger and new sub-panel for a 50a GFCI for a new hot tub that I purchased. They scheduled a date for DWP to come out and inspect whether the new panel would have to be moved from the original location. Once DWP came out to inspect the panel SDS Electric sent out two guys that were very professional and did quality work. They answered all my questions and cleaned up their work areas each of the three days they worked on my job. They showed up on time and ready to work each day. The quality of work done was so bad I'm going to let the pictures taken do most of the explanation on that. They did a Wall mount TV install in our office. Came in the next day and there was a huge, long rectangular hole in the wall! When our Admin who was here at the time of the install asked about it (and the drywall mess left) they said 'we are not responsible for the wall'. You are not responsible for the gigantic crater and mess you created and we paid for? There is no reasonable person who would want their TV mounted if the result is a large hole! I just wish someone else was here at the time they pulled this stunt. Every one in our office agreed the next day they have never seen anything like it! In fact the professional person we then had to come pay to fix their mess said he was also shocked at how shoddy of a job it was and a much, much smaller hole could have been done by even an amateur installer. Even after all that we're willing to just let it go but after contacting them they were very dismissive of it. Just kept saying there needs to be a hole and they are not responsible for any wall damage. We know there needs to be a hole! We just didn't expect you would send someone who has no idea what they are doing and had to destroy our wall and leave a mess to get it done. Probably the only thing more shocking for me than their terrible work they pass of as acceptable is coming on here and seeing they have good reviews. I called SDS Electric on a Saturday night because my lights were flickering and there was a faint smell of fish in the air. My roommate thought the neighbors were having a feast, but I googled it, and that fishy smell is a sign of serious electrical problems! At this point it was already 9:30, but I was also very concerned with the possibility of an electrical fire. I called SDS and within 20 minutes they were here. They replaced the problem circuit so I wouldn't have to worry about a fire the rest of the weekend and on Monday came and changed the electrical panel, which had been damaged beyond the point of repair. SDS used my extension cord, instead of running new electrical, to a new security camera in the attic. When I sent the photo of their unprofessional work, I didn't get an apology and never got the $150 they eventually said they would refund. I loved these guys the first time, it was a big job for my new house installing 6 cameras, 3-4 app enabled lights and fixing outlets. They did a great job, I recommended them to my neighbors and local businesses here in Pasadena. I seldom write about bad experiences, but I've never had this bad of an experience. I usually don't bother reviewing places that already have a five star rating, but I was very impressed by their service and how quickly they got everything fixed! After having my contractor no show for the 10th time (yes I'm a sucker), I finally called this place to get a quote for getting some outlets/ cable box fixed. The guy on the phone was nice and gave me a quote immediately, and scheduled for someone to come within an hour(!!!!). The tech Addis was able to fix the problem quickly, and I was impressed by how courteous and clean he was. He had a mask on the whole time. I didn't ask him to take his shoes off when entering, but he saw that I took mine off in the house, and backed out to leave his outside the door. After he was done fixing, he also cleaned up the dust and dry wall crumbs off the floor without me asking. The job turned out exactly the amount that I was quoted, which... we all know isn't always the case with stuff like this. Very happy I found this place! read more

First of all, let me start with this company's work is good. Within a few days of being contacted they did send someone out to do the installation. Installation was quick and efficient. Now on to why they earned a one star on my book. After installation was complete their technician required me to pay on site, via Venmo. He said that was what his dispatcher advised-to collect payment before leaving. I asked for an invoice, the technician said the office would send it to me. I paid and technician left, I did not sign any paperwork and he did not give me anything. Since installation, I have been emailing, texting and calling for an invoice and update on my inspection date. I paid for an inspection and have been waiting to have it done. First I was told they had not been in the office due to the variant and was asked to wait. After months of waiting I called City Hall myself. They said no one had filed any inspection paperwork for my property. I went back to the company and asked about this. They said if there was something wrong with their work they would said someone out immediately. I said nothing is wrong with the work. The problem is that I paid for an inspection and I expect one. They said they did not understand why I kept asking for an invoice when I had a copy foe the technician. I said your technician never gave me one. He called me a liar and said if the guy was not dead they they would get him on the line. That's an awful thing to lie about so I hope they are not lying about that. I had my charger installed in July. I send texts daily requesting my invoice and news about my inspection and except for maybe a day or 2 of responses I have been ignored. My advice for others is do not pay until they give you everything they promised to give you. It's a daily battle with them and I am still going at it-daily. read more

I called 4 companies this past weekend and the first to respond was SDS Electric. They were friendly and promised me a timeframe of the following Monday between 8-10. Two friendly technicians, Kaz and Aro met me at 8 sharp and they wore masks due to Covid! Turns out after their inspection that I did not need as many items repaired as I had thought. They took the time to explain to me what was definitely needed and even took the time to realign a poorly installed light switch at no charge. They will be back in a few weeks to complete the work when imI am ready to proceed. All this and they underbid the other companies who returned my calls with quotes. My new electricians! read more

This place does not answer your calls if you have problems, and messages go to a VM box that is full. Fantastic. Josh sent two guys right away when my panel box pretty much caught on fire. 30 minutes later these two were elbow deep in wires making sure my salon would not burn down. I've never had to use an electrician before so I have nothing comparable for pricing, but, in my opinion, this was a very fair price for allllllll the work the guys did. My bedroom light fixture was flickering which can be quite harmless or quite serious. SDS had someone out at my house in a matter of hours after I called, on a Saturday . Josh, the electrician , was such a genuine nice person, truly honest and forthright. He checked everything thoroughly , and luckily it was a fixture issue which he addressed with a free LED replacement until I purchase a new permanent fixture . Knowing that he conducted a thorough check for loose wires in relation to the flickering light and it's cleared is a huge relief. Really great guys. Will use them again. I had to get my smoke detectors replaced with the new standards in an old house and the layout of my place made it quite complicating to do so. SDS came in and figured it out somehow, and figured out how to install/replace carbon monoxide + smoke detectors in a way that was way less invasive than others. I will 110% use them again. The job was done great, but the follow-up is just terrible. I had SDS install an EV charger in 2020, and I paid extra for the permit because my city requires it. Back then, all the offices closed, and SDS said it had to wait until all the city inspectors return to work. In late 2021, I checked with them, and they told me the city is only doing urgent permits. Here we are in 2022, SDS stopped responding to me. I called my city, and they are back to work, and apparently, they don't need to inspect this kind of project, just submit paperwork. I plan to apply the permit myself to avoid the hassle. read more

Pros: I didn't get a second estimate, but Josh and Eddie came by the same day I was having problems with my panel. They changed the circuit breakers, made it look really organized and gave me an extra circuit breaker as a spare. They let me see and keep the old circuit breakers and compare them to the new ones. Good honest practice. Most importantly, my electrical problems stopped. Fixed same day for what seems like an honest price. Cons: The job cost $450 and when he sent me the invoice, it lacked a lot of detail. It didn't say the type of circuit breakers they gave me or how much each breaker costs. So I didn't know how much of that total went towards parts and how much went to labor. It also makes it had for me to compare the price other breakers out there. Some breakers costs $50, in which case they gave me a great deal. But some breakers cost $9, in which case I definitely got cheated on the price. read more

Electrical problems are usually unexpected, and rarely go as planned. My call to SDS to deal with our entire front room being shorted out was answered promptly, and we got a team of two electricians the same morning! When the problem revealed itself (old wiring, crazy connections we didn't know about) Ara and Vic took on each challenge with patience and professionalism. Even though there were added labor costs, both of them worked very efficiently and ended with the "here's the lights, now they work." type of result that you really want. The best electrician I've found. Josh was always quick to respond, friendly, and on time. They replaced my electric panel, installed a sub panel for a new hot tub, installed 4 outdoor outlets and all of their work was great. They even came back and helped out when my landscaping guys screwed up some of their work and they were always super nice about it. They showed up 90 minutes later, pre-quoted me to investigate and repair. And, they showed me the parts that they replaced, and explained why they went out. Plus, they wore masks, and we're super nice to my kids and waved hi (albeit while socially distancing). I've always wanted to have an electrician where they know the names of their clients, and SDS Electric does this. They get a lot of return business and regular customers because they have a high standard of quality and personal service. Their prices are fair and reasonable. Trying to get a deal on electrical work can get dicey, and I'd rather have work done right, which is what they do. We've worked with Josh the most, and he's a good guy. He troubleshoots problems and offers solutions, but ultimately, it is your choice on what you want to do. He doesn't try to up-sell you on expensive solutions or anything like that. You have options, and ultimately, you make the choice. No pressure. He's about getting proper electrical work done to make your place safe and sound. read more

(6/14/16) ANOTHER UPDATE: So it's been about 2 months since we've had our electrical work done. We are now getting the drywall repaired for 75% of the lights that were installed as well as for the switch. It is costing us about $500. Plus one of the lights managed to break and won't move around anymore so we will probably have to have that replaced or fixed. I hesitated to even write this as I didn't want to the owner to call me up and yell at me to again but $500 plus a broken light is ridiculous. (4/7/16) They did an ok job at installing everything we talked about. The reason I gave 2 out of 5 stars was that the person who gave us the initial estimate said they would patch the drywall when they were done. Someone else came to do the installation and didn't patch it, and then said that it wasn't part of their installation to do patching. It was also stated in the contract that we weren't given until after the job was done. Since the person who originally gave us the estimate no longer worked for them there was nothing we can do. They also left 6 holes in our drywall when 2-3 would have been enough had they used a stud finder before they started cutting. So while they did a good job, they did not actually do what they had originally promised. 4/8/16) UPDATE : So I changed my review to 4 stars since I got a call within a couple of hours after posting from the owner/manager of the company asking me to change my review based on the changes that he made to his company (firing people who give false estimates) and he promised to knock $100 off of my next service. I still have holes in my wall and need to patch them up so I guess just be aware that this is not part of their service even if promised. read more

Very happy with Josh and his team's extremely professional work on installing a Tesla nema 14-50 outlet for our house. It was a complex job and 3 other electricians told us either it wasn't possible or gave exorbitant fees to do the same job. SDS did an awesome job rearranging the breakers inside the service panel, running a dedicated 50 A 240 V over 40 feet from the service panel under the house by the driveway and installing the 50A NEMA 14-50 outlet by the garage gate.
