    Stale bread torta
    Ron P.

You'd think rational people would act in self-interest and wouldn't want to lose their jobs. Not the folks at Señor Fish's Eagle Rock location. It seems the people working here want to make sure this location goes out of business. Im not even gonna go into them constantly being out of jamaica (how are you always out of jamaica, your main agua fresca?), the undercooked fish, the soggy and wet fried mojarra and constant mess ups. What prompted me to finally write this review is the completely stale torta bread I got today. Inedible and probably even dangerous to eat. What I'm wondering about is what is the guy in the kitchen thinking when he sends this out to a customer? I called the restaurant and guess what? The manager is not there today, try tomorrow :)

This vulnerable neighborhood institution help to put fish tacos on the map of public consciousness. It's inexpensive, too! Don't take it for granted! It's a great place for lunch on a sunny day. Bask in abundant sunshine in one of their casual, dog and family friendly patios. You can choose shade or sunshine.

When I think of family time and Sunday Funday, I think of Señor Fish. Today's visit reminded me why this spot is always a go-to for delicious seafood and great vibes. I stopped by early to make sure I didn't miss out on their mussels with corn and garlic--and let me tell you, they did not disappoint. The savory mix of sweet corn, garlic, and buttery goodness, paired with perfectly toasted garlic bread, was absolutely to die for. We also shared: 7 Mares Soup - rich, hearty, and packed with fresh seafood. Mini Sampler Tostadas (Pulpo, Camarón, and Scallop) - so fresh and full of flavor. The salad dressing they use adds a unique sweet and sour kick that brings everything together beautifully. Enchiladas de Camarón y Scallop - grilled to perfection, served with rice and beans that hit all the right notes. And of course, I can't visit without ordering their chips and guacamole. The salsa they serve with it is unlike anything else--it just hits differently and takes the whole experience to the next level. It's also very kid-friendly, which makes it a win for family outings. The owner is usually there, greeting customers and making sure everything is just right. The servers who take your order are always a delight--friendly, patient, and happy to offer recommendations. Whether you're here for a quick bite or a full-on family feast, Señor Fish delivers every time. Great food, welcoming staff, and a warm, inviting atmosphere that keeps us coming back.

I ordered the burrito with fried scallops to go. The good huge portion. The bad: Maybe it was getting the fried scallops but the burrito was a muddle of flavors. The salsa that came with it was very mild and watery. If I come back, I'll get the taco special since since the beans and rice are separate from the fish.

Thanks to Yelp friend Nikki B. for setting up an unofficial Yelp get together and for giving me the opportunity to go back to Senor Fish! I haven't been to Senor Fish since my college years at Occidental College in the late 1900s... 4 stars!!!! (Geez, that makes me sound super old!) How does it compare to the Senor Fish back in college? The menu has grown ten times, and it was so hard to make a choice. Back then, I think they just had tacos and burritos, and I remember that I was always a fan of their fish burrito! Yes, I could have gone with the same item for nostalgia sake, but I've been craving a quesadilla for about a week! My seafood quesadilla did not disappoint. It was cheesy and seafoodie delicious, not to mention perfectly paired with a very tasty cantaloupe agua fresca. My only regret is not getting the larger sized drink! I'll definitely try and make the effort to come back to get the chance to try out the many other menu offerings. In terms of how it looks now compared to my college years, what a transformation! Yes, I can still somewhat recall how the place used to look like back in college, and it's so nice to see that the restaurant now has much more space to offer. It was way tiny back then, plus I remember it being dark. I especially love the additional patio area by the order area that's shaded by a mature oak tree! For me that's the best place to sit! Service was warm and friendly, and I appreciated that the staff member who took our order let us know that they are understaffed in the kitchen so there may be a little wait time for food. I don't think they anticipated a ton of Yelpers showing up on a lazy Sunday for lunch! Yes, it's self order at a window, but the food is brought to your table once it's ready.

A huge group of us Yelpers descended upon Señor Fish for a summer get-together and we all had a blast! Great food, even better drinks, and the best peeps around!! They have several large patio areas which worked out very well for our large group - I think there were around 20 of us - The staff were so friendly and prompt and they handled our group excellently! They have quite a large menu - and a lot of fun drink variations. You order at their window counter and then they give you a number and bring your food to wherever you sit. I got an iced tea and it was really great! Their large drinks are massive - probably should've gotten the next size down lol. I tried a sip of my friend's piña colada and it was delicious- very fresh and light - but extremely sweet - way too sweet for me but I never take sugar in my drinks so I may notice it more than most. Was good though. It was such a hot day I couldn't bring myself to eat anything hot or heavy - so I went with their ceviche tostada sampler and it was perfect! They let you pick 3 types of ceviche so I chose the imitation crab ceviche, shrimp ceviche, and fish ceviche. I loved it all! The crab ceviche was like a street corn mix and was so good. But their fish ceviche was my fave! Huge chunks of soft white fish with citrusy sauce - perfection! Their servings are ample and everything was super fresh with great flavor combos. They have 3 large patio areas. We started at the one off to the left in the back with a large tent-seating area and other tables in the sun. It was super hot back there and not much breeze - but plenty of room for everyone. It's also the largest area and the one furthest away from the ordering counter. The middle patio is small and right out front with a few tables. And the other side patio to the right next to the ordering counter is the best! Lots of trees and natural shade and very breezy!! Was a great temperature, even in the 95+ degree heat. Plus you're right next to the window to grab more drinks or food faster lol. There's a every small parking lot out back that fills up fast. There's also a lot of street parking in the surrounding area - I had no issues on a busy Sunday lunchtime. Just be sure to check the signs to make note of parking time limits and restrictions. Had a great experience here and would happily come back!

    Batter Fried Shrimp Taco

It's been a while since I've been back to Señor Fish. It's located on a corner off of Eagle Rock Blvd. they have a couple of parking spots behind the building otherwise it'll be street parking. I ordered to go so I didn't see the inside. They used to have a couple of tables set up inside with an open salsa bar but sounds like that has changed. You now order and pick up from a window on the side of the building (before you used to have to go inside and it got pretty cramped). Everything went smoothly for my pick up order, the lady was nice. This time I tried their potato tacos combo, I went in expecting Taco Nazo which it wasn't but it was still good. I'm trying to find a local spot for some good potato tacos! Their fried shrimp taco was loaded with veggies and shrimp, I enjoyed this as well. Will definitely come back again. I used to enjoy their mixed fish taco plate, will need to see if that's still a thing here.

Napkin stuck to the tacky table top.

Disappointing was my major impression. I used to come here a lot, but it has been a couple of years. We stopped in at 3 PM for a late lunch, so I wasn't surprise to see just one employee. He was patient as we worked our way through the lengthy menu at the order window. It was a little breezy, so we chose to eat inside. The food arrived in about 10 minutes, and we spent that 10 minutes trying to clean the table top. Nothing we did could make it not be tacky. The employee came out and wiped it down with a (used) towel. I tried water, then I went to my car to get some Wet Wipes. Nothing got rid of the tackiness. My wife really liked her shrimp tostada. My fried fish burrito was large but meh, and on a plate so small that it was difficult to cut it and not spill food onto that table top (eww!). Oh, it was also difficult to cut because I didn't get a knife. I had to ask for one twice. All in all, a disappointing visit. I like the old interior set up with access to multiple salsas, napkins, water, and clean tables.

The staff are lovely humans who really seem to care about their customers. We have some faves on the menu. The bean dip is fabulous and I'm addicted to the baby gem salad. They have recently amped up the filling in the delicious crispy squash blossoms and I love the acidity and heat. The fish is also a hit in my books. One dish that doesn't work for me is the lamb chops, which is a shame since it's my favorite protein. I've ordered them multiple times with clear instructions on temperature and have found them overcooked and tough. The beef tostada was just ok. The mole was rich, complex, and full of flavor, exactly what you would hope for from a restaurant known for its Oaxacan specialties. I browsed the menu and had a really hard time deciding, but ended up on the cauliflower rajas taco, the crispy shrimp taco & the vegan Korean BBQ taco. The waiter recommended the crispy shrimp taco, but I actually enjoyed the vegetarian tacos more. I love cauliflower and poblano so that taco was a great starter. The ceviches and tostadas are my go-tos but honestly l've never had something here I didn't love. Everything is beautifully plated, super vibrant, and the portions are perfect for sharing (though you'll definitely want to order more than you think). It's light but still satisfying, and I always leave feeling. good, not heavy. Pro tip! If you don't feel like waiting in the long line (which can get wild), here's the move: skip it and head straight to the counter. If there's an open seat, grab it and order right there. You'll get your food way faster, and in my opinion it's the best seat in the house. You get to watch the team plate everything with so much precision-it's lowkey mesmerizing. You'll feel like you're part of the action and the food always comes out hot and fresh. Holbox is inside Mercado La Paloma, which already has a fun energy, but this spot is the star for me. Whether it's a casual lunch, a date, or catching up with friends, it always hits. Worth the hype, worth the repeat visits, and worth telling everyone about.
