I decided to venture out and eat somewhere new. I love family owned placed and non-commercial restaurants, so I decided on Señor Taco. The outside looks like an old run down motel, but when you walk-in, you have that authentic Spanish family environment. I enjoy these environments because it makes you feel somewhat comfortable as if it was home. The waitress was nice and kept tabs on me to see if I was ready to order, or if I needed more water. She greeted me with chips and salsa. Winning! I ordered 4 of the steak tacos loaded up and WOW, it was amazing! The food was DELICIOUS! It tasted as great as it looked. The only thing I didn't like was spending an extra $1.00 to load up each taco, but after eating it, I wasn't complaining about the extra fee; it was well worth it. The steak had a crisp on the outside that gives you some texture and a slight crunch which I really enjoyed. I will be coming here for taco Tuesday since the tacos are only $1 here! The owner has every reason to be proud! They make their own tortillas. Awesome and what I ordered could be much more expensive. It was a great bargain and fantastic Mexican food, I had a combo with chicken burritos and two chicken enchiladas. Nice and almost too much for lunch. Nice flavorful salsa, it is hot and has some nice body. The green sauce was also very good, hot but not flavorless hot. Everything was good, and I am going to make sure they kick it up next time. I've drove by this restaurant for years now and never considered giving it a try. I'm glad I did, because it was pretty bomb! I got the Mayan Pork wet burrito and my boyfriend got Carne Asada, I'd say his Carne Asada was more flavorful. Too good? I never thought somewhere would be too good to review, and this is as close as I have gotten. Another review says the chips and salsa aren't anything special, and that is the one concession I will make, they really aren't worth eating considering everything else is so good. I recommend the tacos. Mainly because they are home made tortillas (but the burritos and such AREN'T). The filling are really good, and they have a variety of them, including the cochinita, and citrus marinated pork which is really tasty. Wednesday, the canoas special is pretty good, which is a beef stuffed plantain (really good considering I normally don't like plantain). I LOVE the fire sauce they have up there too. It is super hot, yet still has flavor to it. I haven't come close to trying everything, but have enjoyed every bite that I have had. the chorizo queso is a great appetizer, but is even better as a side dish so you can smother everything with it. This is the most authentic Mexican restaurant I have found in the Saint Petersburg area! I got a steak burrito and my girlfriend got two enchiladas for enchilada Wednesday! We both though the food tasted exactly as it had when we were in Mexico! The staff was super friendly and the service was quick. Our friend took us here and we loved it! It is located in an old hotel but don't let that deter you. The tacos are awesome! They have quite a large menu selection with all the typical selections and they excel at everything I've had. The first round of chips and salsa are free and 1.50 for a refill. The salsa is fantastic. It has excellent flavor and not much heat. I usually like spicy/hot but the flavor is great enough that it doesn't need anything else. I wish I could give them 5 stars for effort, because they are seriously trying. But alas, the food is not worth driving into deep Pinellas Park for. First of all, kudos to them for being one of the ONLY Mex joints in Tampa Bay that makes its own tortillas. But, even though they are homemade, they suck: they are greasy and too thick. The chips are good. The salsa I agree is runny and too salty. The tacos are authentic, but authentic doesn't necessarily equal great. They are not well done. The meat fillings are hard and overcooked, the cilantro and onions is paltry, the seasonings are off. Everything is a greasy salty mess. The food does not taste all that fresh. I thought the best thing was the crispy tacos, chicken or beef was good. Again, they are very nice and they are trying, but the execution is way off. The search for a good taco in Tampa Bay conitnues. Or you can go to Wimauma and go to Taqueria El Sol. Maybe what I need to do is open a taqueria myself. When we first moved into pinellas park we tried this place due to the ratings. I have learn that ratings are subjective to the taste and perceptions of the person eating. What one person considers great can be bad to another. The staff I will say we're very prompt and cheerful to help you , if you're undecided. I am often undecided due to the fact I find food hard to choose. Everything looks good on the menu and screaming taste me. Let's get to the food part , which is the most important part of the review. I am a fan of the Mexican cuisine hence why I chose to come here . I had chosen to eat chicken enchiladas with green sauce and my boyfriend the taco with steak if I remember correctly. My meal came out in good timing but I was not impressed with the meal in that it tasted bland and overly cheesy. I am not a fan of too much cheese to me being lacto intolerance. The appearance of the outside can take you back because it looks like it is a motel and not a restaurant. The inside was decorated good no complaints. As far as Mexican food goes, this is one of the best places in the area. Taco Tuesday is great as the beef tacos are $1 each. Be sure to order enough as they are kind of small but very delicious. I splurged the extra dollar and got one with carnitas (braised pork), well worth it! Don't judge a book by its cover because you will miss out on the best tacos in town. This place may look like the Bates motel, but the tacos are the best in town by far. This is our go-to place for tacos. The fish tacos are fried and the special sauce on top makes the perfect pairing. The Machete speciality taco, though carries a hefty price tag, is worthy every penny. The Machete is a slightly bigger than the other tavern-esque tacos but has roasted pork, mushrooms, and melted cheese. The regular tacos are tavern tacos so they are smaller than what you would expect so you may need to get a few to satisfy your hunger. Now the best part about Señor Taco is the hot sauce, especially the Fuego sauce. This sauce carries some serious heat, but at the same time adds some serious flavor. What an awesome little hole in the wall Mexican place. The salsa for the chips was fantastic and the beef tacos I had were even better. The flour tortillas were nice and warm, and the guys working there were extremely friendly. The churro was good too but nothing that I would say is a "must have." Used to frequent a great Mexican restaurant. Used to is the operative word here. It's beyond anything remotely fair at this point. I'm not sure if Covid had an effect on their quality of meats and products but it sure does taste that way. We all left sad that our food wasn't even mediocre at best. Chips were stale, you can tell they keep reusing oil until it's on the edge of bad. The shrimp in the tacos were over cooked, over salted and just plain gross. Beans had too much lard, rice was like a pilaf instead of Spanish, carnitas were fatty and oily. Corn tortillas were stale or old not sure. Only good thing was the salsa and Pepsi. Feeling burpy as I'm writing this. Ugghh. Like buying the cheapest meats/ingredients possible and using THAT to make their food. We all felt gross after eating, walking away with yet another Mexican restaurant that doesn't deliver in the land of Florida. I'm sorry if Covid has been rough on the business where they might have felt it was important to cut back on cost vs quality but if it continues, the restaurant will just go out. Wanted fish tacos, asked a friend and she mentioned this place. I have driven by this place many times and wanted to stop so when she mentioned this place I figured I should go. I walked in and was greeted by a man who was very nice. I told him I was a first find costumer and welcomed me and he helped me! I asked if the guacamole was home made. He said yes so I got that with chips $6, 2 fish tacos $6 and two chicken $4. I don't eat red meat or pork so those are my only 2 options. When I got home, I dug in. Ughhh, the guacamole was NOT homemade but that watery, soupy stuff supermarkets sell in the containers. VERY disappointed! Fish tacos, very good. Chicken, was ok, had better. Hands down the best Mexican food I've had since I left California! There tacos are awesome! and they have daily deals throughout the week, which of course I can't remember any of them. I got their Enchiladas which were good but not the best I've ever had. The fish taco I had on the side was really tasty though, I enjoyed the spicy tartar sauce that came on it. They have no beer or wine but they do serve Horchata which in my book really shows whether the restaurant is authentic or not. My wife ordered the Carne Asada burrito, wet. I know she enjoyed it since it was a decent size and she actually ate the entire thing. I'll definitely be returning for more south of the boarder deliciousness. read more

Um, I tried all the tacos and they were all really good. Favorites were the Mayan Pork and the ground beef. The homemade tortillas and pickled red onions really make the meal. Had a horchata as well. Every horchata I've had has been a little different in each place I've tried it, so I don't know how they are "supposed" to taste. Some are thick and syrupy and some are thin and more soda-ey. Whenever I come home, I come here for my Mexican fix. The tacos here are very flavorful without overwhelming saltiness like some other places. Get the carnitas and cochinita pibil and you will be in heaven. The salsas are good, standard...not the tomatoey-based, though... but the corn chips are a bit thick and hard from other places (and not commercialized American places). People that we introduce this place to are scared of the used-to-be-hotel-turned-commercial exterior that it is attached to but are glad they came in for the good food. When I first got there, I was like "This place looked a little sketch." It seemed like they converted an old motel to a restaurant. I decided to give it a try since there are so many good reviews here. When I got inside, the environment really reminded me of the Mexican places I would go to when I was in San Diego. I decided to order a carne asada burrito. I was so glad I did. The taste of it was exactly what I had remembered from California. The tortilla was lightly grilled to give it a little crunch. The burrito itself had a good amount of guac that gave it a good flavor. The cheese and carne asada was a good balance. Overall, I gotta say, I love this place.
