I used to love coming here but now the portion sizes are consistently smaller and they are putting less protein in the dishes. Unfortunately for me, Senior Villa is less than mediocre. After spending $35 for a delivery meal, I knew I was in trouble when the more recent Yelp ratings were sub-par. Surprisingly, the ratings on the delivery app were high...don't trust it. Side chili relleno- for $5.50 it was like tiny street taco sized...but not taco flavorful. The only flavor it had was pure salt. It was inedible. Fajita chicken burrito also sub-par. Added grilled veggies and they were hardly cooked. Raw mushrooms and peppers were not enjoyable. Yum. Yummy. Yummmmers!! A neighbor recommended this place so when I was in the neighborhood I put in an order! I'm so glad I did - this family owned restaurant makes some really delicious and authentic mexican food. I loved that the tamale I ordered came with toppings and I didn't have to deal with the corn husk. The camarones a la diabla were pretty spicy despite indicating I wanted the mild option - but it didn't detract from the overall flavor of the dish. The beans and rice were so savory I ate every bite (normally I don't care for these sides!) This is telling. If I had one complaint it is that I wish their entrance wasn't facing the busy street as it is a long walk from the parking lot to the front side of the business. I was impressed to see all three of their kids sitting at separate tables all tending to themselves and not racing around or causing any trouble. I have been coming to this local family owned restaurant for a few years now. I would much rather support a family business, than the local larger franchises. Plus it's a true testament Señor Villa survived through the Covid pandemic where others didn't . The place is cute and quaint inside. I find the food is tasty, and satisfying. The service is quick and polite, and more importantly the food arrives to your table hot. My favorite dish is their Carne Asada, which is consistently tender and seasoned well. I will end on this note. I have recommend Senor Villa to my neighbors, and have taken my out of town family there. If it's good enough for my family... yeah its eats. Wow!! super sad that this little spot went down hill after the new owners?? I have the question marks due to the fact that I am not sure the date that this all changed. I believe that when they did some painting about a year ago and I noticed the name Rosie's over the door. That is when it changed- my friend and I would go really often and that evening was terrible but totally thought a fluke for sure. We loved this little charmer and now the food is awful. We had street tacos and a tamale...very disappointed. I'm loading up the pic's (I never take the time to do this but the tamale actually had canned chicken in it. When we got home, (this was take out) -it looked good when we opened it. Tamale did look really thick, but gurl, it was awful! After they took a bite; simultaneously- all said, it's terribly salty and there are cubes of stuff in it!! It's canned chicken! The street tacos were dry as the desert- but I will say the flavor was.....good-ish. Not the best, but good. Also the lime they gave us was actually rotten. not just one brown spot, but truly rotten, and no juice. So sad, will never go again- money doesn't grow on trees- You know the post, "if I could give it less than 1 star". I feel bad but the woman working was slamming things around. Maybe had a really bad day or wanted to get out of there for the fireworks. It's the 4th after all. yikes!! And I forgot to mention the piece of paper small in the photo. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. My last two visits have been problematic to say the least. First visit, huge backlog of takeout orders. A delivery driver had taken my meal and mistakenly dropped it off at someone else's house. It took almost an hour for them to recook our order. There was one person manning the phone, seating people and taking orders/serving food. That was coming out of the pandemic so we gave them a pass on staffing issues. Second visit was today. Ordered online again, showed up and a customer has mistakenly grabbed our order. The two women working were nice but at first suggested that the customer was bringing the food back, implying I'd just take it from him but they'd recook it if I wanted. I asked them to recook it, you can't re-serve food after it's left the restaurant and been returned. I get the new order pretty quickly, but get all the way home to realize they forgot the sour cream, guac and most of the sides for one of our dishes. Went back to get this. After two screw ups you think they'd maybe offer a freebie as a make good. No such luck. I ended up buying some chips and salsa which they should have just given us for free, lol. Shame is the food is actually good and the staff is nice but front of house organization is awful. We won't be ordering takeout again. read more

I've eaten here several times, and every time the food is really fresh. I like the consistant quality, always know I'm going to enjoy the meal. Both soft and hard tacos are available. Nothing is overcooked! My Enchilada Verdes today (see pic) are perfect! And I especially like the whole beans with rice. The chips are crispy and the salsa is delicious. The restaurant is clean, and the decor is festive. It looks like a small place from the outside but there are 14 tables, plenty of room (and parking). ...and plenty of beer, wine and spirits! ... there is usually just one waitress "Diana", and she is very up-beat and professional... service is excellent. read more

One of our neighbors recommended this place for good mexican food, and we are so happy to have found it. Its a small unassuming place, but the food is all made from fresh from scratch. We started with Chicken Taquito. It was so good, fresh tortilla, the chicken filling tasty, and the guacamole fresh. I would highly recommend it. We the got Chicken Flautas, and Mojarra Frita. We loved both of our entrees. The Chicken Flautas were were so good, fresh tortilla's, delicious chicken, and fresh, guacamole again. The flautas are good, but very similar to chicken taquito we had. They are both good, but I would not recommend getting them both at the same meal. Mojarra frita is something I haven't seen at any of the other mexican restaurants. This restaurant has been around for many years, under various similar names and different ownership and management. Initially, it was our GO TO place for slightly upscale authentic Mexican food. Then it changed hands, and it changed, and we began going less. Fortunately, our past two recent trips to Mr. Villa felt very reminiscent of the original Sr. Villa that first captivated our appetites. The chips are no longer red and green, but they still have the squeeze bottles of red, green, and hot salsa that you can request. After experiencing ever-shrinking portions in the past, it would seem that their larger portions are back. We cannot speak to the size of their take-out orders because we always eat inside. The walls are decorated with colorful murals, with a nod to the festive Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico, that is, there seems to be a focus on decorative skulls. The space is small and cozy, with only tables and no booths, and the intimate lighting only adds to the warm environment. Previous hostesses and waitresses who seemed preoccupied with hanging out with hungry construction workers appear to have been replaced by a polite and attentive crew. And the food, which is why we go there in the first place, IS FABULOUS. Flavorful and fresh. It would seem the old Mr Villa is back! read more

The sauce was simply overpowering to the point where I couldn't taste or enjoy anything about the rest of the food -- it had a bitter, extreme chocolatey taste that made me feel like I was eating candy. It's a Cinco de Mayo miracle! Finally in Mexican restaurant that is not trying to be anything but good. Señor Villa is a small but charming space. They have a menu with a variety of options. Anytime I can order more than one margarita at a Mexican restaurant, it means they are doing something right by my standards. They have several margarita variations to choose from all of which are made with lime juice and different liquor options such as triple sec or Grand Marnier. In other words made the right way. I had a shrimp ceviche tostada that was to die for. I also had a chimichanga that was sprinkled with cotija cheese that you could actually taste. We had lingua tacos. They meet was prepared just right. We would have preferred the tortillas or more grilled or toaster. For dessert, we tried the flan. The texture could have been creamier, but the caramel sauce had the best flavor! I could drizzle that sauce on everything! I am just ecstatic to find a Mexican restaurant in the Seattle area that is authentically good. This was my first visit, and I sincerely hope it will be as good if not better on all of my future visits. Ugh, this is hard for me to make a review because it's my neighborhood Mexican restaurant. I ordered the mole enchiladas a couple of weeks ago and they were terrible. The chicken was very dry, tasted like it had been reheated in a microwave, and the mole was kind of dried up on the tortilla. Not the runny sauce that should coat the tortilla evenly - it was kind of bumpy and uneven. Seemed like all of it had been reheated in a microwave. I will look elsewhere for Mexican unfortunately. read more

Being a Texan I'm always on the search for good Mexican and Tex-Mex food in the Seattle area. While having some errands to run in this area I logged into Yelp and found the pictures and ratings for this place and I have to say my whole family enjoyed the service and food. The place is a bit small and perhaps hard to find if you aren't looking for it. Our waiter was very professional and made sure our needs were met. The food is a bit more expensive (around $10 a person) than what I expected but it's on par with any other sit down restaurant around. We would definitely recommend Mr. Villa's to anyone who is on the hunt for good Mexican food. read more

I've driven by Mr. Villa more times than I can count heading down Lake City Way just off of I-5 until a few months ago and would say to myself, "I've got to try this place.". Boy, I should've been going here years ago! You get chips and 2 types of salsa as a starter that are very satisfying; they are so fresh and the verde is amazing. Good Mexican is all about the sauces; and Mr. Villa does a great job here. I've had the mole enchilada and chile verde; and let me say they are way better than I could have imagined. The mole was really good and I liked the enchiladas quite a bit. The beans and rice that come with every meal was good and the portion filling. My last time, I had the Carne Asada and it was really good; a bit salty in a good way; especially combined with the corn tortillas. The portions are quite large and you get all the chips, salsa and home-made corn tortillas. Quite filling and you'll come away with a full stomach of goodness. I walked by this slightly dark and unassuming place before venturing in for dinner. I was seated immediately and served red, green and white corn chips and salsa. The chips were fresh and crispy and the salsa on the spicier side, with a bite that lingered. The place only had three taken tables but there appeared to be a problem with their computer system so ordering took a bit but nothing unreasonable. I ordered two tacos, a side of refried beans and guacamole. My food arrived quickly and was tasty. The carnitas were a little dry and had lots of spicy raw purple onion on top but had good flavor. I've been very impressed with the service and food from this spot, however, some reviews might state the opposite, it seems like the former regime was not as diligent as the new owners. An edible Mission Burrito. Many burrito selections but only one that's served properly wrapped in foil versus soaked in sauce. It's Dominated by the meat (I got chicken and the only other choices are ground beef and shredded beef although there is a wet Chili Verde available). Heavy rice, few beans and just a tiny amount of cheese. Meat is flavorful but dry. Tortilla was a little chewy. Size is very large. Pretty good. Accompanying it they provide two bottles of hot sauce - the verde is excellent. The red is runny and forgettable. Immediately when you sit down they serve chips and salsa. Both salsa are very good. Chips are fresh and warm. Complimentary. Burrito is expensive for a Mission. 11.50 I think. Happy hour beers are $3 and Margaritas $5. Beer selection is almost all Mexican with some major domestics. Only micro was Res Hook ESB (yuk) and Pyramid Hefeweizen. They charge for jalapeños added to the burrito. They lose a star for this. Shame shame. Pretty rough interior. Service quick and business like. Busy area but they have parking. Popular place it seems. Good sign. Probably one of the best taquerias I've been to in Seattle. A little overpriced but not bad.
