My appointment started at 3:00 PM, but the facial was finished around 3:50 PM. I asked my esthetician, Serena, why the service ended so early because I was expecting the full 90-minute experience. I was told that the service is based on what your skin needs rather than the scheduled time, and that I did not require many extractions. While I understand that every facial should be customized to the client's skin and that I did receive the LED light treatment, I was disappointed that the service ended after about 50 minutes when I had booked and paid for a facial advertised as 1 hour and 30 minutes. I did not receive a mask, and the facial massage felt extremely minimal. In my experience at other spas, when extractions or corrective treatments are not needed, the esthetician typically uses that time for a longer facial massage, additional mask time, scalp massage, hand and arm massage, neck and shoulder massage, or other relaxing treatments so that the appointment still feels complete and the client leaves feeling cared for and pampered. Instead, I left feeling as though I received less because I take good care of my skin. What was most frustrating was paying the full $140 price, plus a 15% tip, while receiving a significantly shortened service. Had I known that the appointment could be reduced by nearly 40 minutes depending on my skin condition, I would have appreciated that being clearly communicated before booking. Advice: If you have acne, congestion, or significant extraction needs, this service may be a good value for you. However, if you maintain your skin regularly and are looking for a relaxing 90-minute facial, self-care experience, or glow-up refresh, I would strongly recommend asking exactly what is included and how long your treatment is likely to last before booking or just go somewhere else. I let her know I could correct it and my cousin could help her move the funds, but she became very frustrated and spent about half an hour on the phone in the hallway with me instead of starting the services. I kept reassuring her that I would Zelle her regardless, but she seemed really upset with me. Once everything got settled, the appointment went more smoothly. My grandma's nails and toes turned out great and she was really happy. My aunt's nails were just okay, but I know the technician might have been short on time. I did not mind the small pricing adjustments since it had been a long time since my grandma had a pedicure and I was unsure what my aunt had on her nails beforehand. The front of house staff were very nice and welcoming and answered all our questions. Now on to the less desirable part of our experience..... As we decided at the end night to grab a cocktail to take back to the room, this is where it went bad! To provide the full picture, there were 3 ppl at the bar, enjoying their drinks. One table in the far back that a server was helping. I asked for a mojito only to be greeted with, "ya that's not gonna happen! We don't make those here!" A simple, "I'm so sorry unfortunately we do not have the ingredients to make those here as we have a limited ingredient list." Would have been appropriate. A smart mouth comment does not elude customer service. If you don't like to work in the industry, find a new job!! Our drinks were subpar, and a lesson in customer service could go a long way. I would start with the basics. Even simply asking my husband if he would like to upgrade his spirit in his cocktail vs just quickly pouring and slamming a drink down. I strongly recommend your team reading "Unreasonable Hospitality!" It may make you think about how you made a lasting impression. For me it made me feel like I never want to come back. And, yes, I work in the hospitality industry so this was unacceptable! Do better! This is how one bad experience can make the lasting impression! UPDATE 7/29 I want to call out the Hotel Manager, Cecilio Reyes, for his "Unreasonable Hospitality"! He called me immediately to better understand the feedback that was provided. He went out of his way to pick up the phone and listen to what I had to say. This means more to me than a $10 drink at the bar. This in fact it shows that they truly about doing the right thing to ensure they keep a customer. You have no idea how this small act sends a message to your guests. I hope your leadership sees this to see how you truly elude unreasonable hospitality and ensuring that your customers return. My issue was not for anything other than. ensuring that others learn from the impact it could have on someone. Their location in San Mateo is easy to find and has an ample amount of street parking. Inside their rooms, it is very peaceful and relaxing. Some of the services I have tried from them have been - nano-infusion, derma planning, peels, back facials, regular custom facials and most recently a hydraderm facial, which was great! I've always had problem skin and it's honestly never looked better. I've even gotten compliments for the first time in years. I reached out to Evelyn to see if this was an option and she agreed to do so with the disclaimer that they may not look as polished as they would with wax which was a risk I was willing to take. It has now been a few days since I got them done and NO breakouts for the 1st time in my history of eyebrow treatments! Evelyn also wiped the area down with an alcohol prep pad afterward.
