The sea bean is an awesome place, as far as looks and the setting. However for me the coffee wasnt anything special. It was just regular coffee in comparison to most indie style coffee houses. Ive had three or four different types of their coffee and might try a few more in the future. Everyone there is nice and the service is great otherwise. read more

Very nice atmosphere, the coffee was delicious! We would have been happy with a little more selection in the food area, as simple as being able to get some plain eggs would've been nice. The sea bean used to be my favorite place for coffee until a few months ago when they gained a new manager. Not only is she rude and lacking in customer service skills, she absolutely zero coffee skills. Her shots are always sloppily made and consistently taste burnt. Cozy place for a rainy afternoon latte. Good soundtrack, great latte. Took our panini to go, but would have loved more time sunk in one of the love seats looking out at the day. Mayflower panini made excellent by the addition of ground cranberries; turkey pesto panini a bit over-salty but good. Both on perfectly crisped bread. Wish I'd sprung for a t-shirt. We camped overnight nearby and walked downtown for a cup of coffee and a pastry. Bought the only pastry that was made in house- as mentioned by the grumpy cashier- but it was horrible! They called it a cookie tart and cost $4 but it tasted and crumbled like over sugared, uncooked cookie dough. And the muffins offered were from Costco... "Literally" said the grumpy cashier. Apparently the coffee beans are organic and local but not very tasty. It's such a bummer to come to a fun little AK town and not be able to find a good baked goods and coffee joint. This shop was plenty spacious and had lots of seating but lacked the good foods, coffee, and friendly barista that would have garnered a 4-5 star review. read more

The Sea Bean Cafe's food and coffee are delicious. My husband and I really needed some healthy nutritious food along our trip and this hit the spot. The Berrylicious smoothie bowl and breakfast burrito were so good, I wish I could have them every morning. The service is also friendly, quick, and the shop is quiet/relaxing. To be honest i did not like the coffee at first when i went there upon moving to Seward, but i happened in 2 months ago and spoke with owner about getting more varieties of beans, and he told me that he wanted to so i suggested using Paradise Roasters, they bulk roast coffee and ship anywhere in the united states for 3 bucks, they are also one the highest rated coffee roasters in america. I went back 3 days ago, and lo and behold he took my advice, the coffee is excellent now and I couldn't be happier! read more

Pros: Wifi, good music Cons: Drinks really aren't what they were last summer One of my favorite places to spend a few hours on the internet when I'm in Seward (which is a lot). Food was delicious, but the service wasn't spectacular. There was no sense of urgency whatsoever. I was in town at the same time as a cruise liner and there were about 20 people in there...not one of them speaking to anyone else. Weird. read more

We ate lunch here only because Le Barn Appetit was closed (our original destination) and enjoyed our visit! We split an apple fritter, Mayflower panini, and Triton smoothie (berries with coconut milk), and I had a small coffee. Everything we had was really good, although I would probably try a different smoothie next time just for the variety. The smoothies were also a bit pricier at $7 each. My coffee was great and we both really liked the apple fritter, which completely filled an entire dinner plate in size! We enjoyed the quaint atmosphere and would come again! read more

We went here for breakfast. I ordered the mango smoothie bowl. The menu said it came with bananas and a couple kinds of berries. It came with just bananas. So, I understand that a restaurant can run out of an ingredient. Even a couple of ingredients. What I can't understand is not telling the customer and asking them if that's ok before charging them full price for something that's missing some of what they expect. That is just really disrespectful of customers. Like "give us your money and be grateful for whatever we give you." I would never go back. read more

Hours for winter are 7-3, and the kitchen is closed so we didn't get to try the food. However, the atmosphere is excellent, coffee is tasty, and my smoothie was really good. Vegan and gluten free options! Me and a mate spend a handful of days in Seward and we visited The Sea Bean Cafe each day for food, drinks or a combination of the two. As the motto says on the window: sit, sip, surf; this place is causal, warm, inviting and hits the spot every time. Frequented by locals and tourists alike, it's small, but option-filled menu is what kept us coming back. Their coffee beans are roasted locally especially for them and 100% organic (always a plus). They make the usually espresso drinks but also have several specialties, and if coffee ain't your thing, well they have an entire wall of loose leaf tea to choose from. Their food options are simple but delicious. Breakfast could be a muffin, bagel, smoothie, oatmeal or the like. Lunch/early dinner there are several paninis to choose from as well as the build your own option. Best part, for me, they have vegan options! For drinks, get your latte made with soy or coconut milk and for food, bagel, oatmeal, black bean burger or veggie sammie. Plus both their tarts are vegan AND gluten free.
