Let's start with the clam chowder--and yeah, I'm not throwing this around lightly--this might be the best I've had outside of Boston. Loaded. And I mean loaded with clams. Not that "where are they hiding?" situation... every spoonful actually delivered. Creamy, balanced, not overly heavy--just straight comfort with a coastal accent. Then I went for the fish Caesar salad, and I'll be honest... I wasn't sure what lane we were in here. But it worked. Light, fresh, and a solid pivot if you're trying to keep things a little less indulgent after demolishing chowder like I did. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space itself fits that uptown energy--polished but still relaxed enough where you don't feel like you need to whisper while you eat.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]
We had a business lunch and sat at the bar. The bartender was super friendly and very knowledgeable on the menu. We started with Narragansett beer and Sea Level oysters, both which were amazing. He had the lobster roll (CT style...) and I had the blackened fish and fried oyster tacos. All the food was super fresh and flavorful. Highly recommend for happy hour oysters, lunch, or a night out.
We were looking for a good seafood restaurant in Charlotte NC and Sea Level did not disappoint. They have $1.50 oysters for happy hour from 2:00 - 6:00 pm and offer a lunch menu until 4:00 pm. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There is plenty of indoor seating including a bar area and a small outdoor patio with high top tables.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service is Excellent and Welcoming. Food is prepared fresh. We tried the roasted oysters app but found the oysters to be a little overcooked which were dry and crunchy. The clam chowder was thick and full of clams and potatoes. The Atlantic Salmon dinner was prepared perfectly and the lobster roll was full of lobster but the lobster was lacking flavor. Would definitely rate the food 4 out of 5 and Service a 5. Definitely worth a try.
I admit that one of the things I miss most about where I grew up is the proximity to the ocean. While Charlotte has a lot going on, we are unfortunately landlocked. One of the side effects of this is that it can be difficult to find quality seafood. Luckily there are places like Sea Level dedicated to bringing tastes of the ocean here to the Queen City! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Located on 5th street in the heart of Uptown Charlotte, Sea Level has the decor and aura of a fancy restaurant, but has a surprisingly approachable and down to earth menu.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I came here with some family for a night out, and [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was instantly impressed with the beautiful venue.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service throughout the night was terrific! We started out with some cornbread which was a huge hit at the table! It was decadent and sweet, with a honey butter, I could have had an entire meal of it! They have a good selection of oysters from different parts of the count and with different flavor profiles and finishes. I wish I could remember which ones we ended up going with, but I can say for certain that they went down smooth and made for a great app. Now for the mains they had a lot of carefully though out fish dishes that sounded amazing, but I love lobster rolls and figured this would probably be one of my best chances to get a solid lobster roll here in Charlotte. They serve them both Maine style which is cold and with a smear of mayo, or Connecticut style which is served warm and with butter. Now truthfully there is no wrong answer, both styles have their merits. But growing up close to the Maine border I water a taste of home. It was easily the best lobster roll I've had in Charlotte and believe it or not, I've had some solid ones here (you just have to look). Sea Level brings something to the Charlotte food scene that is pretty underrepresented, and for that reason I encourage anyone planning their next night out to give them a shot! I'm glad we did, one of the best dinners out I've had in quite some time.
From the moment you arrive, the validated parking is a huge plus. The happy hour is well worth it, and the food truly shines--fresh seafood across the board. The clam chowder is rich and comforting, the charbroiled oysters are perfectly done, and the raw oysters are incredibly fresh. Each appetizer comes with a fresh plate, perfect for sharing or enjoying solo. The atmosphere is just right: comfortable, clean seating, great music that adds to the vibe without being too loud, and football games on for an easygoing, social feel. The restrooms are spotless and thoughtfully stocked with feminine products, lotion, and hair ties, which is such a nice touch. They also have a great selection of spirits, and the printing machine for coffee and espresso martinis is a standout--smooth, consistent, and delicious every time. Overall, Sea Level is a place you'll want to return to again and again for the food, the comfort, and the attention to detail. Highly recommend.
Downtown Charlotte on a biz trip. Sea Level not super busy on a Monday. Great service at the bar; couple TV's if you're interested in a game. Full liquor bar, good wine selection, and lots of good beer. Had chargrilled oysters as a starter and smoked whitefish caesar as an "entree". Fantastic. Highly recommended. A++
Sea level has been on my list to try for quite some time and I was extremely disappointed. For the price of the food it was poorly cooked and very bland. I got the scallops and risotto and the risotto was practically a mushy porridge. If I am paying $50 for an entree I want the food to be fresh, seasoned, and cooked properly. It had no flavor and I needed to add a lot of salt and lemon. They even left the muscle on the scallops. The grouper was okay but nothing to write home about. Also not worth $50 for the meal. The fish was dry. The calamari was also just okay. Some of the pieces were quite chewy. The only thing I didn't have complaints about was the corn bread.
Wow. 10/10!!! Service, vibes & ambience, and FOOD yum yum yummy. Took wifey here on Valentines Day - with a reservation of course. Sat swiftly, tended to very well, and the food. THE FOOD!!! Delish

The shrimp and grits is 8/10 but the oysters were super small, but the flavor was very good they were just Tooooo small! 6 oysters for $20 bucks was so not worth it! I would order them again. Service was ok.
Had an oyster craving after a game and Sea Level NC did not disappoint! Seafood was super fresh, the mignonette was awesome, and I loved that there were multiple options for oyster shooters. Patricia was our waitress and she gave amazing recommendations that will definitely have me visiting the next time I'm in Charlotte. Cocktail menu looked super fun, and the wine menu also had some great selections. I'd love a chance to try the many wonderful things I watched coming out to other tables!
We stopped in to see if they fared better than our recent experience at their sister restaurant, Waterman's... I made RSVP via Resy's, so got seated right away... but did have to move to another table...as I am claustrophobic, and don't feel comfy in these super-tight half-booths. The thing is, I never loved the tight layout of this restaurant...as the tables are way too close to one another. Also, the chances of getting a comfy table for 2 is slim. That is, you'll most likely get seated at these teeny-tiny tables or half-booths (not a fan of both). While on the topic of ambiance, I must mention that I didn't love how the overhead music was so muted that all I heard were people chattering. Just didn't make for a nice ambiance. Dull ambiance aside, the foods were a bit more promising. We started with the Fried Calamari...and loved it! Theirs seem a bit more jazzy...a bit more flavor than most, which I didn't mind at all. We also shared their New England Clam Chowder...and it, too, had a bit more flavor (though a bit too salty?). We appreciated the abundance of clam...and the generous portion. For our mains, we shared the Lobster Roll and the Po'Boy Shrimp Sandwich, with Fries and Cole Slaw. As usual, loved the roll...but thought the Poboy was a bit too heavy on the batter and the salt. Also, the Fries were a bit too greasy for me. I also ordered this cocktail, Seasonal G&T, that was really, really good! Also, very strong...got a great buzz off just 1 drink! Service was pretty good too. No issues there. Overall, we enjoyed the foods...but think I liked the drink even more this time? Still, the foods were much better prepared and presented here...versus their more casual sister, Waterman's. Guess I'd like this restaurant more if the ambiance was a bit brighter, and the seatings were a bit more comfy. Still, it's one of the best seafood restaurant options in Charlotte.
Massive congratulations to D'Nice for the top-tier service; his appetizer, main course, and drink recommendations were spot on! While I usually love Sea Level's beautiful natural lighting, the venue transforms into an equally vibrant spot at night. We started with the creamy seafood dip before moving on to the magnificent scallop risotto, which we smartened up by adding shrimp for easy sharing. We ate our greens by splitting the crisp and generously sized Sea Level house salad. Overall, we would return for this delicious foodie experience. Pro-tip: park in their garage and bring your ticket to be validated for free parking. This is perfect on a rainy day because you won't have to walk outside. Trust me, free parking makes a difference in Uptown Charlotte.
We were in Charlotte for one night and stumbled upon Sea Level NC for dinner and had a great experience. It was a large space with great ambiance! The staff were helpful and we were warmly welcomed and checked on during our dinner. They have so many types of oysters and it was so fun to try different ones! They had a great seafood menu and tasty cocktails! We will definitely return when in the area.

I love the vibe downtown and this restaurant fit right in with its cool atmosphere. Obviously, I had to try the oysters given the fact that the name of the restaurant came from the town that provides their oysters. I've had oysters many times from the west coast, but his was my first experience eating oysters from anywhere else (to my knowledge). They were good. We tried 1, 2, and 4. They served it with a delicious cocktail sauce and dill/vinegar based sauce that was killer. It was a perfect addition to the oysters. The southern fried oysters were amazing! It was very sauce heavy but every flavor came together. For my entree I had Scallops and NC Caviar and it was just alright. The scallops were overcooked and had no flavor if I ate a bite without the caviar and creme fraiche. It was very expensive for what you get, HOWEVER, the price is right there next to the entree description and that was my choice to try it knowing that. So, it's fine. Hubby had NC Catfish, of which I had to have a bite, and it was delicious. It was cook perfectly and the flavors were on point. I drank the Ghost Pepper Pommarita with vodka instead of tequila and it was good. He had the Melting NY Sour and loved it! Overall, it was a nice place for a date night out. read more

Loved loved loved!!! Came here for queens feast, and so glad I made the decision! From the service to the food, it was amazing! Never have, I tried salted sea level oysters on the half shell, but it was so good! Onto the mignonette sauce, that accompanies it... Best I ever had hands-down! Beautiful interior, super sexy! I wish I had a picture of the clam chowder soup that I had but once I took one bite, I could not stop to even take a picture! Yes, it was that good! I thought I was literally in New England! Sea Level NC is a seafood haven located in the Truist building in Uptown Charlotte. On my recent visit, I had their signature oyster appetizer, as well as their Shrimp and Grits entrée. The Shrimp and Grits at Sea Level NC pay homage to Southern tradition, It's a harmonious marriage of creamy grits and plump, succulent shrimp. The grits are velvety, with just the right amount of buttery richness. The shrimp are perfectly cooked--tender and flavorful. The dish is elevated with a touch of smoky bacon, a sprinkle of green onions, and a dash of hot sauce for that Southern kick. The signature oysters at Sea Level NC are a revelation. Whether you prefer them raw on the half shell like I had or lightly grilled, each oyster bursts with briny goodness. Sea Level NC is more than food,it's an experience. Great atmosphere and fun seafood place to eat in uptown. They validate parking at truist Overpriced Food was very salty Menu was wrong and we were not given what we ordered. I ordered the mahi and the menu said it came with asparagus. There was no asparagus and when I asked about this the waitress said it was a purée form of asparagus instead. In looking at the online menu the menu is different than what is printed on the menus in person and instead of asparagus they changed it to pea purée which is what I was given even though the menu said asparagus. The waitress tried to upsell us to get add ons and extra sides such as asparagus. I mentioned it came with sides, but I guess not since they changed it. Very disappointing that the menu does not match what they actually serve and the wait staff is not familiar enough with the menu. For a $40 entree I expect to get what's on the menu. Thank goodness I don't have a pea allergy. read more

Went here to celebrate the fathers in our lives hoping to experience a special dinner that would offer options for a variety of tastes within the seafood category. With ages as young as 1, to more mature palettes like grandma's, we were repping every generation in our large group of 12. I made an online reservation for 10 adults and 2 children which was a bit difficult. I didn't have a way to confirm other than the third party app I booked through and had tried to call several times to firm up the details since I wasn't sure if my booking needed to be accommodated as 12 adults or 10 and 2 kids. I've had a variety of experiences where it mattered so this was key. Getting there a little earlier than we expected from our Father's day Top Golf reservation, I asked if it was possible to be seated earlier since the whole party was there. We were lucky and they told us they could accommodate us. What a welcomed relief too. It was hot as all get out waiting outside. We enjoyed a selection of different raw oysters and other appetizers for the table. They were delicious. Grandma could not forget these oysters which kicked off several weeks of cravings thereafter this visit. For my hubby, he got the lobster roll, and for me, a lobster and scallop risotto. I enjoyed mine and my hubby thought his roll was delicious as well. Overall, we had a great experience considering the logistics of planning such a big dinner group on short notice. The food is good, but is a bit pricy for the portion sizes and for comparable quality elsewhere. The bill came out to over $500 so that may give some folks pause and I wouldn't blame them. read more

I came here with my Spelman Sisters after a conference. We shared several appetizers which were delicious, the drinks were nice, and the services was great and very attentive. I had a salad which was very filling and tasty. The vibe was really nice with nice lighting outside of the bar. Recommend coming back when in town. read more
I had a nice time at Sea Level for a quick pre-show bite to eat. My friends and I ate here, our reservation was for 6 pm and the happy hour was about to end when we arrived. Their happy hour is $1.50 Sea Level oysters on the half shell and I was able to snag 10. Their cocktail sauce was amazing and the oysters were wonderful. For dinner, I got the scallops and risotto. I was satisfied with the way that it was cooked, but couldn't finish it due to the large amount of oil separating from the dish. My friends got the salmon and said it was all right and the sweet potatoes reminded them of baby purée but phenomenal baby purée. The reason this review is 3/5 is because of how long it took in between ordering and receiving anything. We would order a cocktail and it would take another 20-30 minutes to receive them. Everything was wonderful, but I would have loved to see a little more pep in the step. read more
Came to have a late lunch. Sat at the bar. Service was great, the oysters were yummy I got the sea level ones. I'm telling you that would be the only reason I return honestly! I paid roughly $70 for an alcoholic beverage, six oysters, and a salmon dish. The salmon was yummy but the sweet potatoes tasted like cold baby food, for $27 I expected something a little more filling. The asparagus were thin and not well done to my liking. Next time I'll stick with just drinks and oysters I wouldn't want to be disappointed by an entree again. Definitely a small portion. read more

Took my husband here for a post Father's Day celebration since the restaurant is closed on Sundays and he absolutely LOVE IT! We selected a variety of oysters to sample and then ordered some entrees. The portion sizes were perfect and everything was well seasoned. Our server Raina was a doll and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience from the beginning to the end. This place is located at the heart of downtown Charlotte. It was a great place to stop by for lunch. The food is tasty! Fried oyster taco was perfectly crisped with a nice sauce. The salmon was very juicy and tender with fresh peaches. If you can make it to oyster happy hour, it is a great deal! The cocktails here are also great. I had a mezcal cocktail, the opal ocean. Very unique, with a blue lemon. read more
I finally made it!!! This restaurant has been on my wanna go list for a while now. Mucho mucho sabor!!!! The flavor of the clam chowder, scallops and risotto was amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was part of the trifecta one experiences when you order the Queen's Feast, a three course meal. I wasn't able to indulge in the bourbon banana pudding, which saddened me. They ran out just before it was time for dessert! Not a fan of pancetta, couldn't do the cheese cake due to lactose intolerance. No other dessert offers available, or just not offered. Probably can't substitute, but didn't ask. The Mai tai was one of the worst I've had. It was loaded with alcohol but didn't maintain the flavor profile of a true Mai tai. That's one of my favorite drinks, so I know. But I still drank it. Slow sipped. (Ended up leaving half of my drink behind! I always finish my drink, as I have an affinity for good libation and craft cocktails.) The service was friendly and the ambience was low light, casual or upscale. Depends on you. I'd like to come back. Maybe they'll have the bourbon banana pudding next time! The chowder was the star of the show for me! read more

I like the interior, they validate parking so I was very happy about that, and the staff was so kind. I just felt my app was a little overpriced, the Creole shrimp - which is basically a dollop of guacamole and a seasoned piece of shrimp on a tortilla chip, 5 topped chips for $16. I also had the lobster roll, Connecticut style (butter). I liked that it was filled with lobster, the bun was toasted and buttered, and the whole thing is served warm - I just wish it had further seasoning of some sort. It truly is just lobster tossed in butter, and a little bland imo. If you're a purist, you'll love this. I'm not, so next time I'll try the main style (Mayo) to see if there's more flavor. The fries were great though, and I would go back. I'd just order differently. Also note, not great for a working lunch because they don't have outlets anywhere inside. read more

I visited for restaurant week last year. The options were decent especially for the price. Highly recommend the shrimp and grits! The spice from the andouille sausage was a great accent to the creamy grits. Shrimp, were actually cooked perfectly to my surprise! Skip the cocktails, they're definitely over-priced! Sooo I attended this establishment on a Thursday evening 7:30, with my husband and parents for my birthday. It was fantastic! Our service was excellent, and the food was amazing. I apologize for the sparse picture of the fried oysters, they were so good!! And I didn't even get a picture of the corn fritters which are really like giant delicious hush puppies, because we devoured them so quickly. I ordered the non alcoholic seasonal spritz which was like a blueberry lemon drink-- it was soo refreshing and tasty. Kind of tart and sweet but not overwhelming on either end. My husband had the chef selection steak-- it was so good! My parents both ordered the grouper-- my mom got lobster tail with hers; absolutely fantastic. The lobster was VERY nicely done. We didn't even need to dip it in the butter, that's how great it was. I ordered the SC Tile because I'd never had it before and it was delicious! Meaty and lemon-y. I would absolutely return here. Also, they surprised me with a chocolate Oreo cheesecake for my birthday which was so nice and the cheesecake was REALLY good-- very creamy and rich. read more

Came here and splurged big time ($$$)! We got the lobster role, NC swordfish, two complementary clam chowders, and a Caesar salad. The clam chowders were my favorite - flavorful and excellent. Just sign up with your email a few days before, and you'll get a free bowl. The lobster roll was decent. It was definitely very fresh - but not revolutionary. Everything you'd imagine a roll to be. The NC swordfish looked beautiful and was perfectly plated, but a little tough and not very flavorful. Overall, spent a lot of money and also paid for parking. Wouldn't go again because of the price. But if price isn't a big deal for you, the food is definitely fresh. read more

Had the privilege of trying Sea Level for the first time and loved every bite of it. Caught them on the tail end of a lunch rush. The staff was great and very attentive. I was with a group of 5 we shared the calamari, seafood dip, and oysters. All were fantastic. I don't know if I was just hungry but the oysters tasted amazing. They were just fresh and flavorful. The calamari was fried perfectly! I got the Cesar with white fish, my only issue is I would have wanted more dressing. read more

In town for a concert and had read good reviews about this place so decided to give it a try. I ordered the Meow Mule and husband ordered the old fashioned. Waitress also brought us a carafe of water. Mule was a little too sweet with the sugar and weak with the alcohol for my taste. Husband liked his old-fashioned. Husband ordered clam chowder and I ordered ceviche. I haven't had much clam chowder in my life but his was very tasty and full of clams. My ceviche was one of the best I've ever had, served with chips. Second round of drinks I went with Riesling and he an IPA. For our meals I went with the swordfish and husband the grouper. Both were excellent. The flavors of swordfish, grit cake and Romesco sauce blended together perfectly. Husbands had a Cajun twist with red beans and rice. Both entrees were cooked perfectly. Unfortunately I got so excited I took a terrible blurry picture of mine so not worth posting. I will say that for the over 40 crowd you might want to bring your readers. My friend and I stopped here after a 4 hour road trip from Atlanta. We had never been to Charlotte and had no time to change before grabbing a bite to eat. We searched this place up and it seemed to have good reviews so we were all for it! Upon arrival we were greeted with dirty looks from the hosts, kind of as if we didn't fit the look of the patrons they usually saw. They then asked if we had a reservation which I felt was standard to ask. We were sat within a few minutes on a busy Friday night which was appreciated. Our waiter was super nice and accommodating. He made sure we were aware of all specials/features for that night and also answered any questions that we had. The drinks were okay, not anything special but they did the trick. We ordered the chargrilled oysters and they came out with thinly sliced pieces of bread. They were AMAZING. We ended up getting another order. We could've ordered those about 5 more times and been more satisfied than we were with the meals to come. They got rid of the fried oyster tacos, which is what I'd planned to order so, I ordered the ceviche instead, which was very bland. My friend ordered the po boy which was also super bland. No kind of sauce or anything, just dry fried shrimp on dry bread. Overall I would give this experience a 3/5. The oysters and the waiter is what saved it. Everything else was just disappointing to say the least. read more

I stopped at Sea Level when I was in Charlotte on vacation. We visited in the afternoon, it was pretty quiet. We sat at the bar, service was good throughout our visit. They have $1.5 oysters during their happy hour during the week from 2pm-6pm. I would definitely recommend visiting if you like oysters/seafood. They offer a nice selection of cocktails but don't have much craft beer. read more

Came to get a bite to eat before a show. It's been a while since I've been here. Azure was my server. Copped some HH $1 oysters. She recommended the New York sour and the Reuben catfish sandwich. Both were delicious and the service from everyone was excellent! Will be back soon! read more

I'm not a stranger to this place. It's actually a staple seafood place. I normally frequent the sister location but now that I'm in the uptown area I will frequent here instead. It was quite busy, to be expected on a early Saturday evening. I took a seat at the bar for solo dining. I ordered like normally, my sparkling water with a French Martini. My appetizer was a half dozen of oysters, 'Heart's Desire' from Barnstable, MA. Along with a Connecticut lobster roll and fries. The food was not hot. Very lukewarm, that's the reason for the 4 stars instead of five. I'll be coming back of course. Joe the bartender serviced me tonight along with the rest of his bartending crew. Lovely service, 5 stars. read more

Is this a good spot for kids? Have a toddler and didn't see a kids menu on the website?
I don't know if they have a kids menu, but it is definitely more of an adult place (I dont even know if they have booster seats).. it is a great spot, maybe better for a date night

We have raw oysters, fried oysters, and baked oysters with brie, spinach, and coppa. Our sister store the Waterman has steamed oysters.
What's the atmosphere like? Dying for a lobster roll but don't know if the place is 2-year-old friendly?
It's kind of hip, fairly loud/busy in the evenings. Better atmosphere for adults, I'd say. I've been there several times and have never really seen any toddlers or little kids.
Anyone know if there is kids menu?
I don't think so. There are things on menu kids could probably eat depending on age. We went on a weekend night and it was all adults but I did see one or two tables w kids ( infant and a few maybe 7 or 8 yo)
