pieces to be stuck in your teeth. Good overall. For my entree, I ordered the scallops with risotto which was tasty. It had the right amount of salt and seasoning. I would order this again. For dessert, I had a sampling of the peach cobbler and apple buckle. The desserts were okay. I have a sweet tooth so I think I expected a little more flavor for those but decent. The apple buckle felt a little lacking. Could have used a bit more sugar and perhaps some cinnamon, but that's just me! It works if you don't need something overly sweet. Overall, a good quality restaurant.

I admit that one of the things I miss most about where I grew up is the proximity to the ocean. While Charlotte has a lot going on, we are unfortunately landlocked. One of the side effects of this is that it can be difficult to find quality seafood. Luckily there are places like Sea Level dedicated to bringing tastes of the ocean here to the Queen City! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Located on 5th street in the heart of Uptown Charlotte, Sea Level has the decor and aura of a fancy restaurant, but has a surprisingly approachable and down to earth menu.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I came here with some family for a night out, and [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was instantly impressed with the beautiful venue.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service throughout the night was terrific! We started out with some cornbread which was a huge hit at the table! It was decadent and sweet, with a honey butter, I could have had an entire meal of it! They have a good selection of oysters from different parts of the count and with different flavor profiles and finishes. I wish I could remember which ones we ended up going with, but I can say for certain that they went down smooth and made for a great app. Now for the mains they had a lot of carefully though out fish dishes that sounded amazing, but I love lobster rolls and figured this would probably be one of my best chances to get a solid lobster roll here in Charlotte. They serve them both Maine style which is cold and with a smear of mayo, or Connecticut style which is served warm and with butter. Now truthfully there is no wrong answer, both styles have their merits. But growing up close to the Maine border I water a taste of home. It was easily the best lobster roll I've had in Charlotte and believe it or not, I've had some solid ones here (you just have to look). Sea Level brings something to the Charlotte food scene that is pretty underrepresented, and for that reason I encourage anyone planning their next night out to give them a shot! I'm glad we did, one of the best dinners out I've had in quite some time.

We were looking for a good seafood restaurant in Charlotte NC and Sea Level did not disappoint. They have $1.50 oysters for happy hour from 2:00 - 6:00 pm and offer a lunch menu until 4:00 pm. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There is plenty of indoor seating including a bar area and a small outdoor patio with high top tables.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service is Excellent and Welcoming. Food is prepared fresh. We tried the roasted oysters app but found the oysters to be a little overcooked which were dry and crunchy. The clam chowder was thick and full of clams and potatoes. The Atlantic Salmon dinner was prepared perfectly and the lobster roll was full of lobster but the lobster was lacking flavor. Would definitely rate the food 4 out of 5 and Service a 5. Definitely worth a try.

Downtown Charlotte on a biz trip. Sea Level not super busy on a Monday. Great service at the bar; couple TV's if you're interested in a game. Full liquor bar, good wine selection, and lots of good beer. Had chargrilled oysters as a starter and smoked whitefish caesar as an "entree". Fantastic. Highly recommended. A++

From the moment you arrive, the validated parking is a huge plus. The happy hour is well worth it, and the food truly shines--fresh seafood across the board. The clam chowder is rich and comforting, the charbroiled oysters are perfectly done, and the raw oysters are incredibly fresh. Each appetizer comes with a fresh plate, perfect for sharing or enjoying solo. The atmosphere is just right: comfortable, clean seating, great music that adds to the vibe without being too loud, and football games on for an easygoing, social feel. The restrooms are spotless and thoughtfully stocked with feminine products, lotion, and hair ties, which is such a nice touch. They also have a great selection of spirits, and the printing machine for coffee and espresso martinis is a standout--smooth, consistent, and delicious every time. Overall, Sea Level is a place you'll want to return to again and again for the food, the comfort, and the attention to detail. Highly recommend.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is nice , located in the heart of UPTOWN.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was decently seasoned I had the shrimp and grits with grilled oysters. The shrimp and grits is 8/10 but the oysters were super small, but the flavor was very good they were just Tooooo small! 6 oysters for $20 bucks was so not worth it! I would order them again. Service was ok.

Sea level has been on my list to try for quite some time and I was extremely disappointed. For the price of the food it was poorly cooked and very bland. I got the scallops and risotto and the risotto was practically a mushy porridge. If I am paying $50 for an entree I want the food to be fresh, seasoned, and cooked properly. It had no flavor and I needed to add a lot of salt and lemon. They even left the muscle on the scallops. The grouper was okay but nothing to write home about. Also not worth $50 for the meal. The fish was dry. The calamari was also just okay. Some of the pieces were quite chewy. The only thing I didn't have complaints about was the corn bread.

Had an oyster craving after a game and Sea Level NC did not disappoint! Seafood was super fresh, the mignonette was awesome, and I loved that there were multiple options for oyster shooters. Patricia was our waitress and she gave amazing recommendations that will definitely have me visiting the next time I'm in Charlotte. Cocktail menu looked super fun, and the wine menu also had some great selections. I'd love a chance to try the many wonderful things I watched coming out to other tables!

We stopped in to see if they fared better than our recent experience at their sister restaurant, Waterman's... I made RSVP via Resy's, so got seated right away... but did have to move to another table...as I am claustrophobic, and don't feel comfy in these super-tight half-booths. The thing is, I never loved the tight layout of this restaurant...as the tables are way too close to one another. Also, the chances of getting a comfy table for 2 is slim. That is, you'll most likely get seated at these teeny-tiny tables or half-booths (not a fan of both). While on the topic of ambiance, I must mention that I didn't love how the overhead music was so muted that all I heard were people chattering. Just didn't make for a nice ambiance. Dull ambiance aside, the foods were a bit more promising. We started with the Fried Calamari...and loved it! Theirs seem a bit more jazzy...a bit more flavor than most, which I didn't mind at all. We also shared their New England Clam Chowder...and it, too, had a bit more flavor (though a bit too salty?). We appreciated the abundance of clam...and the generous portion. For our mains, we shared the Lobster Roll and the Po'Boy Shrimp Sandwich, with Fries and Cole Slaw. As usual, loved the roll...but thought the Poboy was a bit too heavy on the batter and the salt. Also, the Fries were a bit too greasy for me. I also ordered this cocktail, Seasonal G&T, that was really, really good! Also, very strong...got a great buzz off just 1 drink! Service was pretty good too. No issues there. Overall, we enjoyed the foods...but think I liked the drink even more this time? Still, the foods were much better prepared and presented here...versus their more casual sister, Waterman's. Guess I'd like this restaurant more if the ambiance was a bit brighter, and the seatings were a bit more comfy. Still, it's one of the best seafood restaurant options in Charlotte.

Massive congratulations to D'Nice for the top-tier service; his appetizer, main course, and drink recommendations were spot on! While I usually love Sea Level's beautiful natural lighting, the venue transforms into an equally vibrant spot at night. We started with the creamy seafood dip before moving on to the magnificent scallop risotto, which we smartened up by adding shrimp for easy sharing. We ate our greens by splitting the crisp and generously sized Sea Level house salad. Overall, we would return for this delicious foodie experience. Pro-tip: park in their garage and bring your ticket to be validated for free parking. This is perfect on a rainy day because you won't have to walk outside. Trust me, free parking makes a difference in Uptown Charlotte.

We were in Charlotte for one night and stumbled upon Sea Level NC for dinner and had a great experience. It was a large space with great ambiance! The staff were helpful and we were warmly welcomed and checked on during our dinner. They have so many types of oysters and it was so fun to try different ones! We started with the cornbread -- to die for! The happy hour oysters were great as well! Husband had the shrimp and grits, and the flavor was unreal. The second day he had a sandwich. I had the shrimp po boy one day and the shrimp tacos the other day. Absolutely everything was phenomenal! Wait staff were great.. Food was meh for the price. Charbroiled oysters were overdone, dry and tasteless. Seafood dip was mostly cream cheese and very little seafood. My special blackened grouper was a small piece of grouper (nicely cooked though) over a bed of rice and what amounts to shrimp and grits gravy; for $48! The hot spice was overwhelming for such a delicate fish. Wife's paella was effectively the SAME dish just stirred up in a castiron pan. The flavor profile was identical. Very disappointing that everything tasted the same. One and done! read more

I had a great experience at Sea Level NC! We started with the mussels (5/5) which were incredible. They came in this pesto garlic-like sauce that was rich and flavorful without being too heavy. The rye bread on the side had a unique taste that paired perfectly with the mussels, and honestly one of my favorite parts of the meal. I ordered the flounder (3/5) next and thought it was just okay. I asked for the caper sauce on the side (thankfully), because it had a very buttery, citrusy flavor that didn't quite hit for me personally. But the garlic mascarpone and asparagus that came with it were delicious. We also came during happy hour for oysters, which were fresh and fun to try. The highlight might've been the paella (5/5) as it was packed with flavor and cooked beautifully. The scallop and shrimp were perfectly done, and every bite felt like a flavor bomb. Service was amazing the entire time. Friendly, attentive, and they made sure everything came out just right. Would definitely come back, especially for the mussels and paella! read more

First it was my first visit and I invited two other couples. The waitress was pleasant kind of bless your heart type of attitude. Once my guest arrived the problems started. To move forward I would like to say we all ordered out food, and it was a total of six of us . Three people approved of their dish however, two of us had cold food when you go to a upscale restaurant, such as sea level it would be nice not to have to send our food back due to the temperature. The manager came to the table and she did get our food prepared correctly however, at that point the manager should have given some type of concessions and offered the free dessert because we were not able to eat with our guest. I had to ask for that type of service. My friend got her Bill and the waitress was doing what you call up sale. She asked her husband and my husband if they would like to have three scallops added to their meal the waitress did not say would you like to have three scallops added to your meal for $30? She just plainly said would you like to have three scallops added to your meal or a lobster tail now I understand that there are many people that would go in and not have a problem with the price however, it should be stated how much the up charge is going to be and it should be in writing on the menu because we looked back on the menu and there was not a price for up charge on the scallops . My friend was not happy with the service nor the cost of the scallops . The manager did not really know how to handle the situation but because I invited everyone I wanted to make it right and I asked to pay part of her bill and of course my friend denied and said it'd be best. If we just not come back she said the food wasn't bad the food was actually good however, the waitress was definitely not as friendly focused as she should have been and not willing to help make our experience the best I will say the manager should have been able to accommodate her request and move forward and be kind and understand her point. I will be back and I would love for my friends to come back. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance was very nice and the drinks and food were good as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Please note the manager at the end gave us a $10 coupon for next visit but our friends were not happy with the outcome. It was simply lack of communication and more openness regarding the charges of up selling and the price is not on the menu. My husband and I left the waitress a $40 tip to show her we did not take it personal and the restaurant has great potential but additional customer service is definitely needed. Thank you. read more

I ordered a delivery which included ceviche and a dozen oysters. The ceviche cost $20...there was about 1/2 cup of it. The oysters and sauces were WAY over salted. I don't mind salt, and I know where oysters come from, but...wow. Even the vinegar sauces were SALTED. Whoever is supervising this food should consider a job at Sonic. Was visiting area and found this business on Yelp for a Friday nite dinner. We were able to walk from hotel to location. We made a reservation and highly suggest it. Arrived and was seated promptly. Our waiter was with us right away offering water and taking any other drink desires which we ordered a couple of. My wife ordered a alcohol free drink and I one of the special mixed drinks. The alcohol free was good but I could not pick up a flavor of alcohol in mine. We ordered the Cast Iron Seafood Dip to start with that was really good. It was served with tortilla chips but would have rather had a bread product. We ordered a Lobster Roll and Blackened East Coast Grouper. The Lobster Roll was stuffed with meat, no filler, in a Texas toast style wrap with butter drizzle and tasted great. My grouper was presented on top a bed of cajun spiced rice which had a pool of red beans and sausage around. The fish was blackened just right and taste good. Sorry to say pictures did not get taken as we were hungry and dove in. Our server was friendly and attentive. The restaurant was very busy and noise level is a little loud. There is management cruising around checking in with tables as well. The value is good. read more

Service is amazing the server we had knew her stuff about oysters. Oysters were amazing price were average per oyster in a restaurant. Not a fan of sea level salts they taste like myrtle beach but the others ones yum. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant had a great setup you can sit at bar, in booth or even front row to them shucking oysters.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Even the bathroom was clean and had extras before our night on the town.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Definitely will be back, this is one of charlottes best oyster bars!!! read more

This was our first visit to Sea Level, and it won't be our last! The atmosphere was ideal for a summer lunch with the girls--relaxed, stylish, and inviting. Our server was both knowledgeable and friendly, making us feel welcome from the moment we sat down. The food arrived quickly, served hot and made to perfection. Each of us ordered a different drink from the menu, and they tasted exactly as described--refreshing and flavorful. All in all, it was a fantastic experience. I came to Sea Level for the first time in August 2024 and apparently forgot to write a review. I enjoyed my experience at that time so much, that I knew I was going to come back as soon as I booked my trip to Charlotte. Service and Staff: - During both visits, the staff were all very nice and able to answer the recommendation questions well - Despite being busy, they continued to check on us and bring food out in a timely manner Food and Drinks: - Sweet and tangy short rib: I ordered this both times because it's so good. The salt sprinkled on top does make this dish a little salty, but it doesn't overpower the entire dish. Each time I've come and ordered this, the sides have been a little different, but have remained good quality. The meat is tender and falls right off the bone - Calamari appetizer: easy to share, comes with a good amount of calamari, and the dipping sauce is tasty - Apple Buckle: if you're looking for a dessert that will make your mouth water, make you lose your thought process because you've been transported to a different world, and that fills you up, this is the dessert for you. I've also ordered this both times because it's so good! In full transparency, we ordered one and then enjoyed it so much that we ordered a second during my first visit here. - Cheesecake: we tried this for the first time this visit and it was divine. You get a thick slice with a nice strawberry compote on top to add to the flavor. The graham cracker crust is just the icing on the cake to make this dessert delicious. Miscellaneous: - Parking is a little tough and is limited to metered street parking - Definitely recommend making a reservation online ahead of time - Indoor and outdoor seating available - Great for groups, pairs, singles, etc. read more

My wife and I had a wonderful experience here a couple of nights ago. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The room is warm, welcoming, and just dim enough.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My wife and I both agreed that our server D'nice, was probably the best server that we have ever had. He was very friendly and extremely helpful. Despite the fact that he was very busy he made us feel like we were the only ones in the place. The food (lobster roll and seafood paella) was absolutely delicious and the cocktails were amazing. Previously my wife and I lived in Maine, and I can tell you that this was one of the top 2 or 3 lobster rolls that we have ever had - and I can't believe that I'm saying this about a place in Charlotte NC. This place is a well oiled machine with a warm, friendly, professional staff and management. We will certainly be back again. This place was highly recommended to me. I've visited twice and I've had awesome experiences both times. Reservations for two were for both Saturday evening visits. If you park in the parking garage, you can get your parking validated. As soon as I entered, I was greeted and seated. There are tables and booths available. The lighting is low and music isn't too loud but at a comfortable volume to communicate and still enjoy the ambiance. Their music choice is pretty good, I Shazammed a few songs. Both waiters that I've had were very nice. For my first visit, I ordered the meow mule as my drink. My boyfriend ordered their 129 Mule and we liked each other's drinks better so we switched. Both drinks were perfect! Not too strong, not too light, just right. For an appetizer, we shared the cast iron dip. It was DELICIOUS! For my meal, I decided on the East Coast Shrimp and Grits and my boyfriend ordered their scallops and risottoIt was super yummy. I was surprised with champagne since the reason for the visit was an anniversary. It was a pleasant surprise! During my most recent visit, I ordered my new favorite the 129 Mule. For appetizer, we shared the sweet and spicy calamari. It was drool worthy! I decided to go with the Waterman Hot Chicken sandwich. It was a great choice. My boyfriend ordered their East Coast Shrimp Po Boy. I enjoyed a bite of his sandwich. Another 5 star choice. The reason for the second visit was a birthday celebration. Delicious oysters and corn bread you must get! The clam chowder was really good too! Wine list was incredible & my daughter got a spirit free cocktail that was out of this world. My daughter and I hung out in Charlotte last week for her spring break. She's pescatarian so of course we were looking for good seafood. The food was excellent and the drinks (alcoholic and mocktails) were too. D Nice was our server and he provided a great experience. I went here the other day because I have been looking for Oyster Happy Hours and though I'm not a local, I would try to come back for Happy Hour one day. Thankfully, they close at 11 and we arrived around 9:30pm. We signed up for their email list and it gave us a coupon for 1/2 dozen oysters for free! It was pretty busy on a Saturday night so we sat at the Oyster bar, where you could see the kitchen. Our server was nice and helpful but it was a busy night and at one point, he had a large party sitting behind us and it looked like he was the only server on the floor so it took him a while to bring us a check and he forgot to bring my extra tarter sauce and put my friend's sauce on the side. On to the food, the HUSHPUPPIES were fantastic. I love hushpuppies and these were a solid 9 of 10 on my scale. They were super crispy and fresh but they were served with this brown sugar butter that took it to a whole new level. It was soft on the inside and I wish they had little onion bits on the inside but regardless, I'd come back for those alone. The 1/2 dozen oysters were Sea Level oysters from NC and they were very light and bright with a very salty taste. I did not like their unique take on their house mignonettes. I ordered the Fisherman's catch which was a fried grouper sandwich and my friend got a shrimp po'boy. The fries were delicious and we had plenty of leftovers. Marinated very well, doesn't taste too salty, and is just overall delicious. It comes with bread which pairs well with the mussels. The calamari is also very delicious. Comes with chopped red peppers. The added heat compliments the calamari and gives it an added level of flavor. The oysters were also very fresh. I visited Sea Level with my wife as we were in town for a wedding. To be honest, in all my time Yelping, I've never seen a place with such a high rating with so many reviews, That made this place a "must try." We parked in the Truist building parking deck and headed to the restaurant. Immediately, we were greeted warmly by the hostess who said we could sit anywhere we wanted. We sat near the door in a nice area. Our waitresses visited us quickly and brought us waters with lemon wedges. We ordered the House Salad with Grilled Salmon, tacos a la carte, and the skillet lobster and shrimp dip. It was even better than the pictures I took. The grilled salmon was cooked perfectly to order, the tacos were quite flavorful,'and the dip was hot, cheesy, and loaded with seafood. We could not ask for more, EXCEPT then our parking ticket was validated and we paid nothing to get out of the parking deck. What a nice bonus! I can't recommend this place enough! I got the scallops and risotto and it was amazing, seasoned very well, scallops cooked perfectly and the risotto was flavorful. Appetizer, I had lobster and shrimp bisque and it was good not great, especially for the price-- I don't mind paying top dollar if the food is good. The only thing holding this review on the 3 stars was the oysters. I was looking up highly rated restaurants in the downtown area and I love seafood and stumbled across this place. I decided on the salmon salad. I love a good salmon salad. It was featured with a pomegranate vinaigrette which I thought would be wonderful. The salad itself was good however that dressing was so overpowering I couldn't really taste any other part of the salad including the salmon. The other issue was the salmon was overcooked and I originally asked for it to be prepared medium. We decided to end on a good note and try some oysters which were very good, we went with a half dozen of the kind the server recommended and they were really good. Out waitress was fantastic and really on top of refilling the drinks. It was just that salmon salad. Maybe next time I will try something else. read more

We sat at the oyster bar, although we are not oyster aficionados, we learned a lot about the process while sitting there. The oyster bartender offered to show us how to shoot an oyster and allowed us to pick our own small oyster to try as first timers. It didn't sway my position on being just fine if I never tried another oyster in life. But hey, to each their own right! We ordered a house drink made with tequila. I have that a B. The seafood dip and the calamari on the other hand...outstanding, A+! We did have to ask for fresh chips for the dip as the bowl of ships we initially received was stale. It's kind of hip, fairly loud/busy in the evenings. Better atmosphere for adults, I'd say. I've been there several times and have never really seen any toddlers or little kids.

As we were describing the general vibe of the drinks we wanted, the attitude of the bartender manifested as very condescending and lacking in general back-and-forth discourse. Despite the dismissive attitude, but after the drinks were made, we attempted to thank the bartender, but his only response was a derisive chortle before walking off. For the remainder of our stay, he was flirting with some female patrons at the other end of the bar. Sharing pictures, conversation, and general good service while we were ignored until we asked for the check to pay and leave as quickly as possible.

From where we were sitting, he stayed calm, polite, and professional the whole time, even while being interrupted, snapped at, and spoken to disrespectfully over things that honestly weren't even his fault. At one point I genuinely felt embarrassed for the people at that table because of how rude and entitled they were acting in public. Meanwhile, this server kept handling everything with patience and a good attitude when most people probably would've walked away. I just wanted management to know that the server handled himself incredibly well last night, and as another customer in the room, I thought he deserved recognition instead of the treatment he got.

It had chili dukka on it so everything from the eggs, sourdough bread, and avocados tasted very seasoned, despite the dish sounding a bit plain. They do not skimp out on the avocado here. My friend said the Wagyu Burger tasted good and I tried the Shakshuka (for the first time in my life) which tasted very tomato-y but still yummy with the bread! I think this is a cute place, especially for brunch. I would rate this place 4.5/5 stars if I could. I want to come back and try their dinner menu which has more food options.

Stay away from the chef specials, they are awful!! Stick to the raw bar and the lobster roll. Ceviche, did not come with chips or anything. Was drowned in apple cider vinegar, so basically was like eating mango salsa dowsed in vinegar with a fork for $16. Maybe half an inch of fish. Super disappointing. NC Grouper was so gross, we barely ate it. Grouper on top of texas toast?? which soaked up all of the sauce and became soggy, included raw tomatoes which dramatically emphasized the fishy flavor in the dish. Very very gross for $36. I would like to sit down with the chef and watch him eat this food honestly. We were celebrating that night too, so it ended up ruining the night. Very disappointed with the meal. If you want oysters... come here! They're so good. The first batch we got, they were super salty. I asked for another set that weren't so salty and the server recommended 3, 4, and 5. I ordered them all. They were good. Our favorite was the James Rivers ones. Delicious. We came during restaurant week. They had a course menu. We tried the shrimp and grits and it was scrumptious. The only thing that prevents me from giving them 5 stars was the fact that the food was all just a tad salty; not difficult to eat salty but more than I would've preferred.
