Terrible experience from start to finish. The guy at the register was on his phone for most of our wait, then rolled his eyes when we simply asked for a wait time estimate after 20 minutes. When I went to pay, he was slouched down in his chair, still on his phone. They told us they could seat our party of 8, then split us across two separate tables. When our server, Hattie, asked if we were "together" with the other table, we said no -- by that point we were sitting completely separately with no way to even coordinate with each other. Despite that, she charged us the large party 20% automatic gratuity. Food came out at completely different times for each table (our table finished eating while the other was still waiting on their order), and drinks were brought separately too. When we brought up the large party gratuity given how mismatched the service was, Hattie brushed off everything we said and didn't address any of it. On top of all that, I found white hair in my food... to their credit, they did take it back and replace it without argument. They also only had paper cups, and the water tasted like it came straight from a hose, while the apple juice was watered down. I asked for a water refill twice and never got one. I've visited Layton's before, and I realize I have never reviewed it. I was in town for an annual meeting, and this is one of the go to places for breakfast or lunch here in Ocean City. It's sort of an institution. There is a small parking lot in the back, and some street parking. If you're early, you will be fine. During peak times, you may not find a space to park. The restaurant is kept clean and neat, and I was quickly seated and able to order. They have a special with eggs cooked to order, choice of breakfast meat, toast, and potatoes - I had mine scrambled, with corned beef hash, and rye toast. Service was good and the server was very attentive. Food came out quickly, and the corned beef hash was very good. Eggs were properly cooked. Toast was nice marbled rye, although it wasn't warm at all. I've always had good experience here, and I'd say this is a solid four star place, and I will be back. this is an authentic breakfast place if you're in Ocean City there's one on 92nd St. and there's one down on eighth or ninth Street. it will always be crowded in the summer so I would say order ahead and take it to go and plan on 15 to maybe 45 minute wait sometimes but it is worth it. They serve mimosas and bloody Mary's at the 92nd St. The hashbrowns are to die for, the donuts are bar none the best in town and scrapple, if you're a fan, can't go wrong! This time, I ordered the Neptune Benedict which is essentially an egg's Benedict with crab cake. The crab cake itself was plentiful and full of lump crab meat. My biggest complaint was (see image) it was overwhelmingly covered in the hollandaise sauce which overpowered the entire meal. My wife had the French toast that she enjoyed but said it lacked anything to make it stand out. I can't give Laytons any less than 5 stars because their food is great. Their service is great. And they don't lose their minds 4 months a year when OC's population swells Tenfold. The food is delivered fast and fresh all the time. Note: their parking lot is a little tight and you may have to wait to pullout if they are getting a delivery but that doesn't happen often. You can also park on the side across from their door. Do not leave without trying their freshly made donuts. You will be the hit of your vacation group if you come home with a dozen. Considering all of these factors, I have made the decision to add this particular restaurant to my list of places that I will not be returning to. I had a nice breakfast here with an elevated calorie count because of the proximity of their baked goods display-- donuts, and cinnamon rolls included. The people are nice and the coffee is hot and you could hardly ask for more for breakfast. The only thing is, the parking lot is a bit of a challenge because if it's layout and the fact that so many people rely on this place and enjoy coming here.. I have a small car and was able to squeeze into what I would describe as an undesirable spot.. There was a small line to get in, but I went up to the counter. Went for a late breakfast. We were cutting it close; got there a few minutes to 12, and they close at 1pm. There was a wait of about 26 minutes. Our server was nice and efficient... took our drink order first. While he was getting our drinks, it gave us a couple of minutes to finalize what we wanted to order. Then it was 25 minutes before we received our order. My steak was kind of rubbery, and scrambled eggs were dry (I should have asked for cheese on top). The kids and I got up early to go see the sunrise on vacation. After we walked on the beach we stopped into Layton's because the kids were wanting to eat. Service was fast and friendly. Service was fine, but the food was unimpressive and way too much money. $36 for two egg sandwiches a pancake and so-called homefries. We had to send a sandwich back because it was incorrect. When I got the new sandwich, I asked for scrambled eggs on the sandwich. They gave me an omelette folded in fours on an English muffin that was barely toasted so it was soggy, the home fries were eight pieces, some of them were burnt and some not cooked completely. It really is not hard to make decent food so I'm shocked when something is simple as egg sandwiches and home fries can be so bad. With restaurants charging so much money, thenthen they need to step up and do much better. read more

No Better Breakfast Spot on the Beach !!! On a recent visit to my old stomping grounds of DC my oldest son wanted to take his 11 yo nephew to his favorite Atlantic beach town, OCMD. We enjoyed Breakfast here on our first morning in town. I had been eating Crab nonstop since I got to the shore, as usual, so the Eastern Shore Crabber from their Omelet selection was right on track for me. It rocked, I couldn't have done better. My Grandson had a Pancake the size of his plate with Bacon and my Son had the Breakfast Burrito as expected since I call him "Hunior". We should've come back the following day because or Breakfast choice didn't work out so well. The Chipped Beef Gravy was as good as Mom's I recommend it and I highly recommend Layton's for breakfast on your next foray to the Eastern Shore of MD. Ay Dare Boy! read more
