Food over environment. Stopped here for a late breakfast while in town for the weekend. The restaurant reminds me of a bar that was repurposed. Plenty of military iconography, tributes to those who served, etc. but placed over top of odd teal colors and glittery black walls. The General himself sat us at a table and we put in a drink order: mine a coffee and chocolate milk. The server was a foreign girl who was very friendly and smiled at us - stayed very attentive to our table. I ordered the pancake combo meal which came with 2 eggs and scrapple. Like a moron I was too hellbent on eating I forgot to take a pic of the plate. I will say the chocolate milk was high-test, like drinking a chocolate bar. I appreciated it. The food was good - pancakes large and the scrapple a large slice. The value in terms of food to spend is very favorable, would recommend here. read more

Good ole' General's Kitchen! I have been coming to OC ALL my life and, since my 20s, my family has had a place in Ocean Pines. Over the course of 25 years, I kept telling myself.. yeah - I'll try it, I'll try it... welp, yelp (hehe) I finally did and OH MY GOODNESS!!! How do you all do it? You offer these EPIC meals starting at like $8?! For $12.50, I got egg whites (they did not charge extra - which is good bc I find the extra charge a bit strange bc egg whites cost less than eggs in the store, so, THANK YOU for making SENSE! haha) and turkey sausage (again nothing extra, money-wise) and delicious FRESH breakfast potatoes .. and - GET THIS - Coffee and Orange juice is included! What?!?! NO other place in-town OC offers so much for so little $! The quality is worth much more (not saying you SHOULD charge more - haha - but saying it's too good to be so inexpensive)! Lastly, my husband was in the Marine Reserves for 8 years - so, I have to say, I really loved the nod to Military appreciation theme of the interior (picture Mission BBQ but as a breakfast place as your vibe). Had breakfast here on a short trip to OCMD. Was not disappointed! Apparently the chipped beef gravy is a huge deal because everyone was ordering it but I don't eat meat so it wasn't for me. I had a yummy mushroom and cheese omelette, really good hash browns and a light and fluffy biscuit. This place is Veteran owned and the decor honors them and I like that. They had Fox News on the tv but the volume was down and I will look beyond it, even though I think it's lies and propaganda, because I was hungry. Even though they were short staffed and very busy, we sat at the bar and the staff was very nice. We talked to four regulars who were also super friendly. All around good place. I was really looking forward to trying General's Kitchen, but unfortunately, our experience was far from pleasant. From the moment we walked in, we felt unwelcome. The host was rude and unfriendly, making us wait outside and telling us we weren't allowed to look for bar seating, which is first come, first serve. After a 30-minute wait, we were finally seated at the back of the restaurant. While that wouldn't have been an issue, we were completely forgotten for at least 15 minutes before our server arrived. She took my boyfriend's drink order but didn't even ask me what I wanted before walking away. When she returned, she rushed us to order food. Things got worse when she took our IDs for the alcohol order and then claimed my ID was "no good." I'm almost 30, and there's nothing wrong with my ID. Feeling disrespected by the service, we decided to cancel our food order and leave. As locals who work in the service industry, we've never felt this disrespected at a restaurant. A good short-order cook is hard to find, but the General has one! I saw the special, figured why not and went for it. Cooked to a perfect medium, w/o any input from me, and it was melt in your mouth fantastic. I've been to steakhouses that didn't cook a steak this well. The good: I love that they are military and police supporters! The food was decent and came fast. Other reviews mentioning good Cream Chipped Beef are not wrong, it is very good. The bad: SERVICE, SERVICE, SERVICE Bad service from the time we walked in. The host/owner just mumbled and pointed at where to sit. It was like he was standing a post at the door. It was not just us either. As other people came in, some would say good morning and got no response from the post stander except for him to point at where they were supposed to sit. Our server was the worst! An older lady who sounded like she was from an eastern bloc country. She took forever to come to the table at first but had no patience once she got there. When our food came out she threw all the dishes on the table, but I mean actually threw them. No one was served their dishes, they were all thrown in front of me to hand out to the rest of the table. There are a lot of good breakfast options in OC. Based on service, this is not one of them. We will not return. read more

The wait sucked a little but the food was definitely worth it. I feel like the wait staff was annoyed by our indecisiveness which was annoying to me. The food came quick and it was delicious but I just didn't love the attitude of our waiter, who I won't publicly shame here. The food is great and it's a cool restaurant dedicated to memorializing veterans and fallen hero's which is great. I'll come back and hope for a different server next time. read more

This place moves fast! We were in and out within 25 minutes on a Monday morning. My mom and I both ordered a cheddar cheese omelet with home fries and toast. The omelets were huge and hard to finish. Cheese oozed out of the omelet when cutting into it. Home fries were a little on the soggy side but still good. Service was great. Def a place to check out for a quick breakfast. read more

We looked up the reviews on yelp before my husband and I decided to have breakfast here and I am glad we did. We were greeted and seated right away. We were there around 8:30am. The restaurant was quiet and looked nice and clean. Our server was friendly and made sure we were taken care of. I decided to try the chipped beef on toast- that so many described as delicious. My husband got a chipped beef omelet. We both loved our meals. While the chipped beef was not as good as my grandmothers, it was still delicious. The portions were huge. Mine came with hash browns and they were cooked perfectly. Crispy golden brown- just the way I like them. My husband said his meal was delicious as well. Came here on a Sunday morning for a late breakfast. We were seated right away but our party was split in two, and not even really close to each other. So that was a bummer. It looked like there were three tables in a row near each other that were empty. And stayed empty for a while after we were seated so not sure why we had to be split up. Our server was fine, and the food came out quickly. I thought my food was pretty yummy. I got the veggie omelet which includes a biscuit and hash browns. Servings are fairly big. 4 1/2 stars. I'm a breakfast fan so I had this place on my radar while vacationing in Ocean City for a few days. Parking was no problem in their private lot or street parking. The business recently located to a larger place by the friendly head chef from New Jersey and this place is packed during the summer - a line out the door for the famous corn beef chipped gravy. It was off season so we had no wait whatsoever. I selected the corn beef hash which was just average but ordered the side of chipped beef - which is everything it's made out to be and was bomb over my soft light biscuit. Our waiter was decent but I really enjoyed conversing with the head chef who I later found out his girlfriend worked at the front desk at the Marriott I was staying at. Highly suggest the General's for breakfast and definitely suggest getting the chipped beef for your toast, biscuit or chicken fried steak. My mouth is salivating - just writing this review lol. read more

Food was okay... breakfast we ordered 2, was pretty quick but my son's cheeseburger took forever. It had been sitting in the kitchen for ten minutes while our server gushed over a table of regulars. We received service that was unbelievably rude and insulting. When we arrived with my father who had a major stroke and has only half the usage of his body, the hostess was upset that I wanted to use the unoccupied front table. She wanted us to sit in the back, so my father had to go entirety too far using a cane and sliding his leg. After she agreed to sit us, a few minutes later the waitress came over insisting that we move to another table. It was clear that they were being as unaccommodating for a handicap person as possible. I am embarrassed for the restaurant and it's staff after this experience. The service was great eventually, but it's a shame that the handicap is treated so unbelievably terrible at The Generals Kitchen. read more

Best place for breakfast in OC! So glad they moved to the new location....much more room. After a 10 min wait (in a fairly long line) we were seated. Very disappointed. The "General" who seats everyone borders on being kind of rude. Three orders of chipped beef. Would be great if they put chipped beef in the gravy. One ordered over biscuit but came over white bread and biscuit on the side. Second order was sent back because it had the limpest pieces of toast....was brought back only slightly toasted. Third order was sent back twice because the bread was not toasted. When I received the third time the toast was burnt and the burnt side was turned face down. Did not know until I tasted the burnt toast. Why put two pieces of toast with the gravy on top. Why not put slice of toast then gravy then second piece of toast and then top it off. Everyone raves about this place but this is my second time and will be my last. We had party of five and the manager was kind enough to take $ 50.00 off of our tab. Very sad and can not understand where all the hype comes from. read more
