I live in LA, but whenever I'm in the area I'm always sure to go to Seabirds Kitchen. It's one of the best laid back vegan spots I've been to! Great atmosphere with surrounding shops and businesses. The outside patio is lovely and gives privacy. The benches are slightly uncomfortable but it's very on-brand for the chill vibes. I try to test new things from the menu but two of my favorites are the purple taquitos and the tacos. There house made cheese sauce is AMAZING and the Beer Batter they use is great. I'd also recommend the Mac and Cheese. Everything comes out of the kitchen FAST and fresh. Dishes seem a little small so it's good to get a few things and share. Seabirds is at the lab on the outskirts (across from the den/formerly known as gypsy den). Parking is kind of chaos at peak times and the parking spots are miniature, but there's also valet if you give up or don't want to stress out about it. During busy times Seabirds has a wait, but they add your name and number and text you when they're ready. You can look at your place in line and see how long you and the parties in front of you have been waiting which is great! There's indoor and outdoor seating and both are super cute. I've only ever eaten inside, but it's not too loud and you can still hear and catch up with friends easily. Service has always been great, and the staff can make recommendations based on what you're in the mood for/most popular items. I've been for both dinner and brunch and loved them both! The brussels sprouts are good (and were sold out once when I came), I liked the taquitos, and the mushroom taco is yummy! For brunch we got the grits for the table (made with polenta) and they were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I got the chipotle florentine for my main brunch item but subbed in the biscuit instead of polenta cakes (since I already ordered the grits). Their biscuits are SO good so I'd definitely sub them in if you're okay with paying the +$2. I ended up only eating one and took the second to go, and it reheated well too. My sister insisted that we lunch at seabirds one day after a tiring visit to Disneyland! It's a vegan restaurant but you could never tell that there's meat or dairy products missing! The food was delicious (but pricey$) and the service was efficient and friendly. I don't remember her name but she is definitely the highlight (other than the food) of the visit. Unfortunately when I was there, the oven was broken so they were missing a lot of menu items. This was a bummer but again, server saves the day with great customer service and was helpful with alternatives. Grateful that this place exists and continues to make amazing food. Once you dine here, it won't be the last time you'll visit. Beets Me Burger is the best vegan burger, or even just burger, I have ever had and I can say I've had a lot of veggie/vegan burgers over the years. It's different from Beyond burger, which tries to emulate the taste and texture of beef as much as possible. This patty breaks that stereotype that vegan burger patties should try to taste similar to beef patties - instead, they make a completely new flavor profile that is scrumptious and delectable. And it's not just the patty too. They do a fantastic job of making their cheese, spread, toppings and buns which all combine perfectly to make the perfect burger. Purple taquitos and grilled cheese are also one of my favorite dishes here. The chipotle crema and fermented cortido on the taquitos are amazing. The chipotle crema makes the dish rich and creamy while the cortido balances the crema out with some tang and crunch. The grilled cheese was amazing with the stuffed shells. Our server recommended dipping the grilled cheese in the stuffed shell sauce and they are a match made in heaven. Also did I mention it is perfectly crisp on the outside and ooey gooey cheesy on the inside? Brunch is served on the weekends only but if you can make it, I'd recommend the biscuit bomb. It'll remind you of McMuffins but you can eat it without the guilt! The tofu scramble we got on the side with pesto sauce was a bit oily and had a odd chewy texture. Not my favorite but it wasn't bad. Their desserts and drinks look so good too but I'm always too full by the end of my main meals. Maybe I'll get a dessert to go the next time I visit. After finally finding parking on a busy Saturday afternoon - we need some food to eat. We couldn't properly shop through all the thrift stores on an empty stomach We decided on Seabirds because I've heard good things about this vegan establishment. Even though it was a around 1:30 - it was going to take around 15 minutes to get seated. We instead opted to order take out and eat it on the tables outside. We ordered the following: Jackfruit tacos Mushroom tacos Fried avocado tacos Fries Brussel Sprouts I liked the mushroom, it was loaded with a lot of picked red onions I think and the mushrooms were cut into small pieces. I also found the portion to be average for a $5.25 taco. The avocado was good as it was a generous slice and it was crispy. The jackfruit was a little tangy but the texture was reminiscent of pulled pork. The fries were ...not the best fries I had. They are skinny cut and a little soggy. I'm not sure if it was my favorite but it was a snack that I needed. I would rather get some fries from in-n-out or something. The brussel sprouts were also better than some but not the best I've had. I'm glad that it wasn't burnt and the inside was tender and cooked but there was nothing additional in terms of texture. Overall, I don't know if I ordered the right stuff but I'm in no hurry to get back to this place, especially with the hard-to-find parking structure. Good luck! read more

Let me first say I have eaten at Seabirds before a few years ago but it was at their Long Beach location. So I was surprised to learn that there was an Orange County location. The OC location is located at The Lab in Costa Mesa. The actual location is across from Urban Outfitters. This location does not have a large dinning area so I think this spot would be ideal for a small group of maybe 4 and this is a cute spot for date night. Now Seabirds would be classified as a vegan/ plant based restaurant. I was meeting a coworker there for dinner and she was running late so I ordered chamomile tea, natural cut fries and 1 mushroom taco. Everything tasted great and as you can see the fries were definitely meant to be shared and I would've shared if my friend hadn't been so late lol. When she finally arrived, she ordered the tomato soup with the Oldtown grilled cheese sandwich and I got the kale Caesar salad since I had already eaten a mountain of fries. (not alkaline either!) For drinks, we had the Blueberry Mint Lemonade. Refreshing! We finished the meal with dessert: Whiskey Peach Crumble! Ah the flavors!!! So good and satisfying!!!Actually, the best dessert ever! It was served warm with a side of non dairy ice cream. I would come back for the dessert alone. My friend said the grilled cheese sandwich was banging too! I will definitely be back. Where to start! I came here with a man I've been seeing and I was instantly impressed by the decor. It had a modern, yet intimate feeling to it. We were seated immediately and our server was ready to take our order almost instantly. My date and I got the same thing: hard kombucha and avocado tacos (pictures with the review).
