I went to this place a day earlier to check if reservation is required for a table on Saturday Sept 4. The nice lady said no and only walk in. On Saturday, I arrived with my party of 5 at 6:30pm. The wait or outside area is 60 to 90 min. I went inside and left the name and phone number. Look like my name is the first on the list. Went outside and wait for the call. After 45 min, went back in and check. My name was cross out. They said they called but no one answer. Then I realized the lady wrote down the phone number with the last number incorrect. Sadly, I did not check to confirm, my bad. But the lady attitude is not great, not friendly, like she has a bad day. With that kind of reception, definitely drive people away. The food is ok. Nothing groundbreaking but they do have an extensive menu and serve good, solid food at pretty reasonable prices. Service can be spotty at times. Valet parking is a plus. In fact the valets are so much more customer friendly and attentive than the restaurant wait staff. It can be quite noisy especially if there is a large party upstairs as the noise is not shielded rom the dining room below. Views can be great especially by the windows. read more

I was showing some friends from California the area around Woodbridge NJ. I had been going to the Armory for Saturday afternoon lunch for the past three weeks so what better way to show off the Perth Amboy waterfront than to have some drinks and seafood appetizers. The armory has about 20 tables set up for outdoor dining. Since only four of them were occupied I asked the hostess if we could sit there and enjoy some drinks and appetizers. The tab for the three of us was $173. but the unfriendly hostess told us we could only sit at the bar. yet I had lunch at these same waterfront tables a week before and spent $163 for lunch. very poor customer service on their part. Now I'm going to take my business to the Barge restaurant across the street. if you have empty tables and someone is spending $173 ffor drinks and appetizers let them sit at the outside tables we were only there for two hours and you could have turned the tables four time during the afternoon and evening I guess no one can think anymore . read more

This place has been a local favorite of mine for a while. Whenever, myself or others are in the mood for seafood this would be our go-to place in the summer. This last time I went here I was mildly disappointed with our waiter. He seemed very rushed and even started walking away before our entire group got to place their drink orders. The food itself was delicious overall. One thing to note is that they will not substitute one side for another without charging an additional charge. I asked the waiter to switch the baked potato for sauteed spinach and he told me that it would be an additional $6. For spinach! When we went the restaurant still had not opened up their outdoor space, unfortunately. Tasted the chicken and sausage and that was comparably great, it was a huge serving so I brought it home and it was good for two more servings. The flan for dessert was on point, you will enjoy, it is not too sweet. Atmosphere - Sat outdoors, so it was more generic than the inside. Sturdy large wood tables and fairly comfortable seating. This place has beautiful scenery and outside bar seating which attracted me to try it out. The service was semi ok as the bartender was doing a few things in parallel, including eating his lunch which was brought from outside and looked like Peruvian food. Wanted to get the Paella but he said it was too big for one person and he recommended the 2 steaks $40 and $38. and since i wanted to try something Portuguese, i ordered the Portuguese steak... The juice was good tasting but the meat was not even close to being a good and quality cut... had ordered Oysters for appetizer and that was also very generic blue point east coast oysters, and i thought being next to water they might have higher quality oysters 6 for $18. overall it's kind of a tourist and view trap which is very unfortunate as they can be a go to place with better food and service. read more

We sat down to empty glasses and place settings, pretty normal until the server came by and dropped off a water pitcher. He didn't even fill our glasses, simply dropped off the pitcher and left. I looked around and every table was treated the same way. The pitchers were big and bulky so they took up a good amount of room on the table too. Next, we ordered sangria and they had more ice than a venti Starbucks iced coffee. Only filled 3 glasses, what a rip off. It would have been nice if they poured our sangria, but no, "here's your sangria". We then noticed there's a 20% automatic gratuity. It doesn't matter what size your party is, seems a little generous for people that can't even fill your water. We were an eight top and when the food came out, only half of it came out.. we waited close to 10 minutes for the rest of it to arrive at the table. The food was good and generous with the portions. I really wanted this to be better. I'll start off with saying I will most likely eventually go back and try his place out again. I want with a group of 20 people and the first thing I'll say is the waiter did not know how to take care of that many people. Half of the table he was very attentive to and the other half were ignored. I ordered the rodizio which the flavor was good. My only problem with this is they just stopped coming. Rodizio is all you can eat. Literally these guys came out once and never came back. Due to the waiter being so terrible at handling the group size I couldn't even ask him to send them back out. For a place that offers a rodizio this is totally unacceptable. After trying to get the waiters attention for almost 40 mins I was finally able to order a dark chocolate terrine for dessert. I never got a dark chocolate terrine and instead received chocolate mousse. Once again what I got was good but couldn't get the waiters attention to inform him of the mess up. I hate writing low star reviews but the service was horrendous. They need to Trianon their staff better to serve large groups or put multiple servers on for them. read more

Before I came here I heard amazing reviews about this place me and my boyfriend decided to give it a try for my birthday and after my experience here I can say the reviews are right. We started off ordering a pitcher of their red sangria which was very fresh and tasted great for appetizers we ordered the sea scallops which was over a bed of sauteed spinach the spinach was very oily but still had great flavor and the scallops were out of this world the size of the scallops we're on the money. We also ordered two crab cakes. For me crab cakes are very difficult to find right in any seafood place these on the other hand were not bad at all my boyfriend enjoyed them a little more than I did but they were drizzled in a balsamic glaze surrounded by roasted red peppers and lettuce I really did enjoy the dish all in all. For main course we had the 36 Oz ribeye steak which was the special cooked medium and came out perfectly cooked and was very juicy I ordered the surf and turf my Lobster was slightly overcooked but I still enjoyed it the steak was a filet mignon I asked for medium rare both sides were medium and only in the center was a pure medium rare it was a little on the dryer side but all steaks were cooked on a charcoal fire so I understood if it did cook a little too fast. The sides were vegetables and Spanish potatoes I'm not sure if Spanish potatoes meant potato chips because thats what was served. The vegetables had no seasoning on them I didn't get a chance to eat my sides because the main dish was very filling. We did not get dessert but decided to go to the bar to have a glass of champagne to celebrate they did not have any champagne they only carried Verdi which is not my favorite we landed up not finishing our drinks and leaving I think this place has the potential to be very good their Seafood is good and fresh and the service was very nice and attentive, and the whole restaurant including a see in kitchen was extremely clean. I will definitely be coming back to try the paella I am excited to see what else is on the menu and on special the view is beautiful as well. read more

Visited today, sat by the bar. Was busy but doable. Was sitting for about 15 minutes the area were sitting was dirty and had dirty glasses on top, no one approached us . At the end of the bar a couple came sat and bartender went to clean their area . Ask them what to drink , he served them a pitcher of sangria and coffee shots . After that he addressed us, said I'll be there in a minute . He cleaned the area and dropped 2 menus and a bar menu . Still without asking if we want anything to drink . Another couple sat next to us, he approached them and ask them what they wanted and still totally ignoring us . At that time, was over 20 minutes and bartender approaching 2 couples and serving them a drink after they arrived after us . *More like 1.5 stars but I had a good time so I'll round it up* I came here for the first time for my company's late holiday party this past weekend and it was fun, but the place left something to be desired. Positives- it is spacious and visually appealing on the inside. We had the event on the third floor and there was about 60 of us and I never felt claustrophobic. The view of the bridge and water looked good at night, I'm sure it looks even better at sunset. The workers were nice and quick to clear plates. Negatives- the food and drinks, which are SO important of course! We had a buffet with seafood paella, chicken francaise, and some kind of beef as the main courses, and some appetizers/sides of mozzarella sticks, boiled potatoes, seafood empanadas, bread, and seafood pasta. I can't speak for the seafood since I don't eat it (people around me weren't impressed) but the chicken was slimy and just NOT edible, the beef wasn't good, and the potatoes were ok but some were so hard I had to spit them out. Thank god for those mozzarella sticks and bread or I would have starved. The dessert was flan, a bowl of chocolate mousse, a bowl of tiramisu toppings, and a fruit platter. I'm sure the fruit was fine but honestly the other desserts looked so bad I didn't even try them, and that's saying a LOT for me. One of my coworkers spit the flan out. Their sangria was so watered down that it wasn't enjoyable, a bunch of us were putting table wine in the sangria so we could at least catch a buzz. A good amount of us went down to the first floor and bought drinks at the bar. Also, we heard the party underneath us loudly all night, which I didn't really care about but I could definitely see this being extremely annoying- we were making speeches and giving out awards at one point and my coworkers had to scream so we could hear them. A very poor experience. We came in on a very quiet Tuesday night and we were still neglected by the staff. We had to wait for 30 minutes for the check - after asking for it TWICE. On the second ask i found the waiter and manager watching videos on their phone back in the manager's office. Embarrassing. The food was awful for the price - i've had better fish at Long John Silvers for a 1/3 of the price. They have at least 3 different versions of their menu, some missing items on other menus. Not even sure what to make of this... Our group was incredibly disappointed - the owner needs to come in and fix this, because our waiter and manager were surely not capable of performing their current roles. UPDATE: After receiving our credit card statement, we found that most members of our party were charged an additional 10 dollar tip for this poor service. This is my father's favorite place to eat and to enjoy the view the armory has to offer. Unfortunately, I do not share the same opinion. I will said the environment and scene of the place is very appealing, but the food didn't stand out. Like the name and the vibe of the restaurant, it used to be an armory that was refurbished. It has 3 distinct parts: the outside part is an outside bar like environment, the ground floor is the dining section with window to enjoy the view, and the 1st floor is usually reserved for party or events. The Shrimp in Garlic: As an appetizer, it was a very nice stater. Bean Soup: It wasn't all that special, I found it to be a little salty. Seafood Platter for Two (steam): The crab and lobster seems to be okay, but the shellfish were small and very dry. Also, I have a gut feeling that they precooked the seafood and just dumped it into boiling water for few seconds....suspicious? Chilean Sea Bass: I will said it was a very big portion, but the fish lacked A LOT of flavor. It pretty much tasted like a sponge that was soaked in hot water, I was very sad, I when took my first bite of it...sigh. Paelha Marina: It looked very nice, especially with the seafood to the decorated the rice, but the dish had way too much salt. It felt like the they use the water from the ocean to cook the rice and I have feeling they just used the seafood from the seafood platter for two. I came here last night after I promised I wouldn't come back here again. Well I guess I just had a really bad experience the first time around. I came here for a small dinner (5 people) and actually enjoyed it! The waitress last night was very nice and attentive, unlike the one we had last time. Once we sat down, she came right over to serve us. We ordered 2 pitchers of red sangria. The sangria was OK, definitely NOT the best I've ever had, but better than what I had last time. We shared the fried calamari and the shrimp in garlic sauce for appetizers. Both were really good. The fried calamari was lightly battered and the shrimp was extra garlicky! I ordered one of the specials of the night, Grilled Prawns served with Spanish potatoes and vegetables. The prawns were delicious! The Spanish potatoes and vegetables complimented the dish well, although I wish I had some yellow rice that went with it. After eating my entrée, I did not have any space left for dessert. My boyfriend ordered the crème brulee which according to him was disappointing. My experience last night was far better than the one I had last year. Came here for a late work holiday party and we were upstairs in a small room which fits about 50-60 people comfortably I'd say. They had huge windows which look out into the pier and you can see the Outerbridge. We had buffet style dinner and it was served outside the room. I tried the seafood pasta, veggies, chicken franchese, and seafood paella. They were delish. Seafood paella was my favorite along with the seafood pasta. I've been here twice before last night. I always order the same thing - Paella. Last night I ordered salmon and my bf ordered the Sea Bass. Both were very bland, no taste at all!!!. I get to the place and ask for a table with be alter view and they say there's none available . (There were 2 tables available ) another two couples walk behind us and they get the tables with water view . ( no they don't take reservations ) ..so they can't say the tables wee reserved . Than I asked for a dish on the menu and I asked for roasted potatoes instead of boiled potatoes AND again I was told they couldn't accommodate me , not to mention our waiter disappeared and went serving someone else while we waited about 10 minutes . Than another waiter came and decided to help us once ours was obviously lost . We got served bread and it was as cold as ice and adding to their ridiculous poor service they had the NERVE to add the gratuity on the bill for only 2 people which is unheard of and totally unacceptable.. I guess they do that because their service is so horrible they would never get tipped if they didn't do that . Another unacceptable thing to do .. .. , I would definitely not recommend .
