Foxtails embedded in my dog's fur that the vet claims is allergy related.

Unfortunately, just about everything went wrong. I brought my dog Buddy to SeaCoast over a 3-week period and spent nearly $2,000. He left sicker than he came in. Buddy originally went in for itching and suspected fleas. I followed all instructions--flea meds, crate rest, bland food--but he quickly got worse. He began trembling, limping, wheezing, coughing, and developed swelling in his face. I returned multiple times. Each visit brought a different guess: maybe a spinal issue, maybe an allergy--but no real diagnosis or action. Eventually, I found barbed plant material (foxtail) embedded in his fur and face--something urgent and dangerous for dogs. I showed the vet photos and even brought physical samples. They refused to remove it, denied further care, and dismissed my concerns. I was later told they would not see him again. Since then, I've had to remove foxtails myself. Buddy is still wheezing and losing weight. I even scheduled a follow-up online, hoping they'd reconsider--but instead I received a formal letter ending our relationship. SeaCoast promotes itself as compassionate and personalized. What I experienced was poor communication, misdiagnosis, and ultimately refusal to treat a visibly suffering animal. If something similar has happened to you, I urge you to file a formal complaint with the California Veterinary Medical Board. Our pets deserve better.

Dr. Ryals and all the staff at SeaCoast are absolutely wonderful. They take great care of my fur baby.

The staff is great. The service is great. We had a crappy vet before this place. They really care. They even let me in to pick up my cat after his surgery, even though they were having a meeting. A sign of a well run vet clinic is the type of place that makes sure they have meetings. We have 4 cats. Koala Bear needed some major dental work. We knew from experience with another cat that it would be expensive. It was still less than the other place. They really care about our pets here.

I have had pets for over 35 years and I have always took very good care of them. When I moved to Imperial Beach I needed a new vet I could TRUST. I asked around and a lot of people recommended Dr Dee at Seacoast veterinary. Well let me tell you!! Dr Dee is the most honest CARING vet I have ever had. She goes out of her way to help you in anyway she can. I will never take my dogs anywhere else. If your looking for a outstanding, caring honest Vet go see Dr Dee. I truly feel so blessed to have found her.

** AMAZING - AMAZING - AMAZING **…read more I've been coming to this pet hospital ever since 1996. I've had a few doggies over the years..... It's been about 10 yrs since I've needed to visit an actual veterinarian office. Today was the day I needed to break that record.... My girl Luna gave me a fright. Home remedies weren't helping and I knew she needed to be seen. I called the pet hospital first thing in the morning to explain my concerns and to see if she could be seen. The doctor was completely booked. However, the receptionist offered to leave a message for the doctor to see if he could work us in..... We received a call shortly after to say that the doctor would be able to see us. YAY!! I was so very grateful & relieved.... Since it had been a few years since I've visited, I made sure to arrive early to re-register myself and Luna as a new patient. The front office was very friendly and welcoming. We were taken back right away and the vet tech Vianca was very helpful and kind with my nervous puppers. Dr. Jasdeep Dhaliwal examined Luna. He was absolutely amazing. So kind and patient. He saw that she was nervous to be there and sat on the floor with her..... I was blown away!! You could really tell that he loves taking care of animals. He's most definitely a special kind of person. Our visit was an amazing experience. Everyone provided EXCEPTIONAL service. Everything was straight forward and honest. No one is trying to oversell you things. This pet hospital is a true gem in National City. I am so very grateful that they worked us in and provided such a memorable experience. I highly recommend them!! Thank you Plaza Boulevard Pet Hospital!!

It really bothers me to write this because my grand pup has been a patient here since she was a…read morepuppy. She is now 4 years old, and up until this experience, we've always received excellent care and customer service. Recently, I ordered medication for my dog and stopped by to pick it up before closing. According to the website, the clinic closes at 6:00 p.m. I arrived around 5:25 p.m. and was told they were already closed. After getting back in my car, I double-checked the website, confirmed the posted closing time was 6:00 p.m., and called the office. During the call, I was told that because there were no doctors on-site, they typically close the register at 5:30 p.m. At that moment, it was only 5:28 p.m. I pointed that out, and the response was that the register had already been closed. My concern isn't that the register normally closes at 5:30. My concern is that if customers are told you serve them until 5:30, then you should continue serving customers until 5:30--not close the register early. If your actual operating hours are different when no doctor is present, that information should be communicated clearly so customers don't make unnecessary trips. I want to emphasize that this one experience doesn't erase the great care my grand pup has received over the years, and I will continue bringing my pets here because the veterinary team has always been wonderful. I simply hope management will use this as an opportunity to reinforce the importance of consistent customer service and honoring the posted business hours. Sometimes a small interaction can leave a lasting impression.
