This restaurant seems to have table servicing issues. We were seated and immediately attended to initially but as the evening went forward, it took a long time for our waiter to return and take our main order. Our waiter was distracted by a private party of 8 and seemed to forget about us. once our order was taken and served, our food was good and presented hot. Given the pricey nature of this restaurant, I would think the waiters should be more attentive. Wine list is somewhat pricey as well. There are other restaurant options in this area that present equally good if not better options. read more

There was a 2 hour wait when we got here Saturday at 7pm, so we did find a seat at the bar and still had a great experience. Presentation of food was great. We had artichoke dip for appetizer-yummy, I had the crab or lobster pasta which was good, but the hogfish my husband ordered was even better!! It's a very good fish that's hard to find. Not a big fan. After reading reviews my husband and decided to give them a try. They had several items on the menu marked Gluten-free but our waiter seemed uncertain about that (he made three trips to verify). They offered a grouper special and I ask if it was gluten-free and he ran again to ask the chef if it was to come back and tell me, no. They offered another grouper entree that was marked GF so I ask if I could have this grouper on the "nights special of risotto and spinach only to be met with a total look of confusion. I finally got the grouper ordered GF and when I got it was very disappointed. It was dry and tuff. After eating less than half I was done. I ask my husband how his was to be told his was dry and tuff and his was the special prepared as they offered, not GF. So my need to be GF obviously wasn't the problem. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this place! The food was incredible, the environment was perfect, and the service went above and beyond. We were on a girls trip and were craving seafood, checked out some local reviews and this place was on top. Our Server Rick was incredibly knowledgeable and all of his recommendations did not disappoint. We even ended up going one more time before leaving. We started off with the crab and avocado salad, an absolute must! Our entrees were delicious, my girlfriend had the grouper and I had the Crab and truffle pasta dish with scallops added. The scallops were to die for! I wish I could have had a dozen of them, for dessert we had the zeppole. By far the best donuts I have ever eaten, warm, fresh and the chocolate in the middle was a bonus. The chef would also said our little small tastings of certain foods. You will not regret stopping here for dinner! If you can ask for Rick! He really made our night. read more

Review summary: food ok, a bit over priced but service was horrible. For a five star hotel with rooms running $500/night, we expected much better service. The resort is owned and managed by the same group as the Sand Pearl but the service here was noticeably worse. We arrived about 45 mins early to our 8:15 reservation and had our first bad service experience with Colin, the host. He was very short and cold with us upon check-in. We found a spot at the bar and notified him that we'd be there until our table was ready. I tried to order the blonde pale ale beer from the bar and was rudely told by the female bartender they were out. Ok. But then offer up a suggestion for an alternative. We stayed at the bar for over an hour as the host Colin confused our reservation with another group and we didn't get seated until 25 mins after our reservation time. Upon being seated, I had to ask for a dark napkin (was wearing black pants and didn't want their white linen cloth napkin). A host at a five star resort should notice that and immediately ask if I'd like a dark napkin, not make me request one. Once seated, we waited another 10 mins to get a visit from our waiter Costas who also was very unimpressive for a high quality resort. He obviously memorized his script as he gave us a very unenthusiastic monotone delivery of menu highlights. He got flustered when he forgot what the special of the night was and fumbled to open his billfold to read his notes. His favorite entree suggestion? The chicken. Hmm. I'm sure it's good but the place is called Sea-Guini. Wouldn't you think one of the seafood dishes or pasta dishes would be your suggestion and the chef's signature dish? As mentioned in the headline, the food was decent but nothing remarkable or worth coming back for, especially for the price and poor service. I'm willing to pay $29 for four scallops if the service is high caliber. Instead I walked away feeling like I overpaid. I could have had better scallops elsewhere on the beach for a few dollars less and much friendlier service. Finally, when you go to pay - apparently their payment system requires you to first put down how much you want to tip and then calculate a total and sign the slip all BEFORE they can process your credit card. What?! Come on. Get a better POS system that processes bills like every other restaurant in the US. Note to Opal Sands management team - step up the service. You've done a nice job with Sand Pearl and it still is our favorite resort on the beach. You need to match the quality of service and sophistication here. read more

The service overall here was great. The menu lacked inspiration in my opinion. Even the cheese selection for their cheese & charcuterie board was basic (gouda, iberico, etc). The artichoke dip was good, as were the flatbread wedges that accompanied them. The "by the glass" wine list was also disappointing. The burrata salad was outstanding. Lots of flavor although the yellow tomato did not taste nor look like an authentic heirloom tomato. My husband is allergic to the tannin's in wine, so a bottle by myself is out of the question. My husband ordered the hogfish and it was really flavorful. I ordered the spaghetti e olio blackened shrimp on top. There was absolutely no flavor at all. The shrimp was overcooked and rubbery. For $30, that was a huge disappointment. I ate about 1/5 of the dish. To their defense, I was trying to "go out on a limb" and order something that I normally wouldn't order. The fresh house-made pasta intrigued me; lesson learned. The views were awesome and the restaurant itself was adorned well with sea themed influences. Very average, overpriced food with a view is a great way to describe Sea Guini. read more

Pasta was over cooked. Scallops were undercooked. The wait staff pushed way too many options on us that we were clearly not asking for (appetizers, desert, more wine). Deserves a zero star. We had a birthday party of five girls. We are all from the local area and were so disappointed by the service and quality of the seafood here. Second time visiting. The tuna appetizer was super bland and came with no crackers. The $40 halibut special came out with a barely there lobster and crab crust and super dry. The grouper came out with a giant bloodline in it. The manager came out and asked "What would you like me to do about it?" We asked for another one and it came out after everyone was finished. Unfortunately the second time they brought it out it had another blood line in it. For the price, this place is definitely not worth it. read more

As a family, we decided to take a trip to Clearwater Beach Florida. We arranged to drive to Clearwater since we were staying for almost a week and needed a car to travel to Tampa and other destinations. This wasn't our first time going to Clearwater Beach, but it was our first time staying at the Opal Sands Resort. Usually we would stay at The Pearl, which is the sister hotel to Opal Sands. As a family, we always like to eat at the restaurants at any hotel because it is part of the experience. My family and I were very fortunate that Sea Guini, the restaurant attached to The Opal, was able to squeeze us in on one of their most busy nights of the year, New Year's Eve. We were able to get appetizers, be seated, and finish in time for the countdown to the new year. Since it was a holiday, there was a set menu, however there were still many options to choose from ranging from seafood to salads to beef options. For appetizers, we ordered the calamari and beef tartar. Both of these dishes were great with a plentiful amount of food for four people to share. For the entrée, I as well as others ordered the New York strip with mashed potatoes and green beans. The food came out in a timely manner and was cooked to perfection. Even the leftovers the next day were still filled with flavor. For food, Sea Guini definitely got a ten out of ten. My family and I are very social people so when we are at new restaurants, we like to get to know our waiter. At Sea Guini, our waiters name was George. He was a very nice guy, did he job well, and even laughed at some of our jokes. As the night went on, we started to realize that he seemed like he didn't have many tables to wait on. As we started talking to him, we realized he only had 3 tables, including ours all night long. He did tell us that he was new to the area and restaurant, but has had experience in being a waiter for over twenty years at many other nice restaurants. As a family, we discussed how bad management this was because there were two tables that were open the whole time we were there, which was close to four hours. The hostesses even turned people away when those seats were not even filled. Even though it was their busiest night as a restaurant, George was not busy and could have definitely waited on more tables. It doesn't matter that he was a new waiter because he was there to work and make money for him and his family. Waiters make most of their money off of tips and he only had the tips from our table and two others. After the meal, we proceeded to go outside to the pool area where they were having a champagne toast as the count down to the new year began. There was a big screen showing the ball drop and as soon as the New Year started, fireworks began to flare. The firework show was amazing and lasted for quite a while. Everyone was having an amazing time and the staff even took part in the count down to the new year. No one was being rushed once the show was over and the staff was very attentive to those who wanted to assist in a conversation. In the future, I would definitely recommend Sea Guini to anyone who is in the Clearwater Beach Area. The food was delicious, our waiter was amazing, and we had a great time without being rushed on such a busy night. The staff at the restaurant and hotel were very kind, the service was excellent, and the experience was amazing. Anything that could have been improved were just some minor managing and or hosting issues that are probably not recognizable to most outside parties. Overall, I would have to give Sea Guini four and a half starts out of five. read more

We arrived a couple minutes late for 8:30 reservation, the place was packed, so it took a couple of minutes to seat us - which was fine, we were seated at a wonderful seat over looking the entire restaurant and it's decor (plus all Gulf of Mexico views) Costas, the waiter approached, and immediately got the evening progressing. The pace of the meal was perfect - the food was prepared the proper way and served quickly and we were allow to enjoy the meal, at our own pace. I had the Veal Chop stuffed with Prosciutto and Fontina and was prepared perfect, my wife had the linguine vongole and it was made a little different than classic linguine and clam sauce(including cherry tomatoes) which made it special. The clam broth was light on the traditional wine and garlic and more of a cream sauce... for the appetizer, she had the Tuna Tartatre and I had the Polpette and again, the pomodoro sauce, and the meatballs themselves, were light and full of taste but not over powered with the classic Italian type of sauce.. the meatballs were light, usually, meaning they used the veal mixture. I can't even describe the desert - Zeppolle, filled with a vanilla cream sauce, again a little bit of a departure from classic Italian fare... A quick note - the menu of this restaurant is Italian, but all the dishes have a different approach, as I have indicated above. The decor has a very un-Italian appeal to it, complete with glass and water art dividers, very contemporary. Overall, the waiter Costas, the view, the dinner, an the overall experience was perfect.. The ambience was fine, but the amount of people wearing baseball caps during dinner definitely took it down a notch. The prices are indicative of an upscale restaurant extremely high-quality food. I found the selection and the food itself to be average at best. Our waiter seemed distracted all evening, and even forgot to bring my wife her salad. The other part that rub me the wrong way, was it cost $10 to valet park, and that was the reduced rate for having dinner. $105 was a bit much for no alcohol. My husband and I picked Sea-guini as the place to go for a nicer meal our last night in Clearwater because it was one of the highest rated restaurants on Trip Advisor. We were very disappointed with the service. Of the several staff we interacted with, I think only one of them smiled. Our waiter was very cold and almost rude although we were very olive and always thanking him. After we ordered our meal, he came and set down a plate with 2 bite-sized appetizers that we hadn't ordered and just walked away, saying nothing about what they were. We had to ask the guy who brought us some more water what they were. We ordered the hogfish and diver scallop dishes for dinner. They were presented well, but tasted just ok. They both had a fishier taste than we thought they should. My husband commented that he liked the scallops we had prepared at home much better. I think if the service had been better, we might not have had such an issue with the food, but when you pay $100 for dinner, you expect the service to match. read more

I travel a lot for work and eat at many nice restaurants. There are many places that have great food but the service and attention to detail is what separates good from great. The wine list is expansive and will accommodate the average or expert wine connoisseur. The menu selection is broad enough to accommodate most people. We started with a bottle of wine, brussel sprouts and lobster bisque which was recommended. Wine and lobster bisque was excellent but BS were a little underwhelming. My wife ordered a salad for her entree which was fine and I ordered the parmesan crusted grouper which was pink in the middle, not good for fish or chicken. However, everything around the middle was fine so rather than complain, I chose to eat around it. The waiter and manager approached our table a couple of times asking how we liked our meal. It was our anniversary and rather than complain, I chose to let it ride. Upon presenting the bill, our waiter commented that he couldn't help notice that my grouper was undercooked and took the liberty of removing it from my bill. This type of attention to detail and customer service is what separates the good restaurants from the great. Anything can happen on any given day but it's how a business responds that matters. We stayed at the Opals Sand Resort for my husband's birthday and made reservations here for Saturday night. Very glad we made reservations as the lounge was packed with people waiting for a table for a spot at the bar. We were greeted and sat and not only the hostess, but also the waitress knew if was his birthday from the reservation! Great attention to detail. They have a wonderful selection of wine and the menu is a great mix of seafood and Italian. We order a bottle of wine and decided to split the Rustica Pizza and the Penne alla Vodka. The waitress let us know that all bread and pasta is made fresh in house each day! Plenty of food for the two of us, with leftovers! The pizza and pasta were very good and you can tell everything is made fresh. My husband even got free dessert for his birthday and the Tiramisu was one of the best we have had and we just returned from a trip to Italy this year. Highly recommend if you are staying at Clearwater Beach or live in the area. The food is delicious, portions are large and we were out of there for less than $100. read more

I don't know really where to start..we celebrated our best friends birthday tonight at this establishment as it was our first visit here and I would have to state...this is most likely our last visit. Safe to say...over priced and lacking quality. We started with calamari and bruschetta and we can't really say it was worth money at all. We then ordered the hogfish and lobster bisque. The bisque was good and hogfish was..eh...ok. the portions leave much to be desired. Brad was our server and at first he seemed cool but as the night went on we didn't really appreciate the lack of yet again...quality of the service and class to be honest. He told a story about how "they recently had a show at the restaurant with midgets and how they were retards and a pain in the ass"! Not to mention he didn't ask us once how our dinner was? Our birthday girl stated she would like to try the zeppoles desert but without the coconut filling. Brad stated no problem...yet when she bit into them there was coconut filling and all he offered was...do you want us to make you more? She stated no she was ok..And yes she was charged for these...and she did not enjoy the coconut filling! We were dressed appropriately yet we saw there was a guest wearing a journeys concert T-shirt and baseball hat! This place is NOT worth the money! I would honestly say...don't spend the money and go somewhere legit for this kind of money. It's about quality.. especially when you are celebrating an event. Stayed at Opal Sands and enjoyed the breakfast buffet here on our last morning of the trip. Prices for the a la carte breakfast items were pretty steep so we opted for the buffet and the food was great! All the regular items - eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, bagels, toast, oatmeal w/ the fixings. Also had great parfaits and berries that tasted so fresh like they were picked right outside. Fresh squeezed juice bar and omelet bar included in the price. Definitely worth the cost of the buffet! read more
