Although a bit far for us to drive, this restaurant is one of the only good seafood places along the 521 corridor. They have a full menu of non-seafood options, but their seafood is the best. I love the Alaskan White Pollock. Have it grilled or, as I like it, broiled. Four fillets done perfectly in a white wine/lemon sauce which is delicious. You get a basket of hush puppies with honey spread as a starter. Iced tea is regularly refreshed and the servers keep tabs on you. Prices are great, seafood is fresh. Parking is a-plenty out front. This is one of my husband's favorite places to eat. He loves their Stir Fry. He's a very fussy eater and just loves eating there. It's very affordable so maybe that has something to do with it. But he goes at least once a week after playing golf with the guys & has the Beef Stir Fry. I've been there once but can't rave about. I had the Shrimp Stir Fry and was surprised because I've never seen shrimp so small. Lots of them but tiny. Very tiny. The 'corn bread' is also tiny. Shaped like 'spaetzle.' He loves it. All his golf buddies love eating at 'Seagulls' as well. Go figure! Chatting with folks who were there while we were, they all raved about the food & prices. Some have been 'regulars' for years. Maybe I was rung up for a large, not sure. Steamed cabbage sweet, tasty not too cooked, still little crunch. Green beans had a tomato-ish taste. Absolute horrible experience! 1st, when we first ordered, the customer service was horrific. The lady taking the order was cutting my mother off. There are things that have supposedly changed from the last time we ordered which was like a MONTH ago. She didn't know the answers and just was given half answers. We asked for an estimate price which is always given, she failed to do so until I said "If you can't, give me the manager." She then said an estimate price & didn't give us a wait time or name for the order, until my mother asked. When my mother proceeded, to give her that information. She hung up immediately. Hours later, my father had gotten his seafood boil from there... When he gets ready to heat his seafood boil up, he notices there are French fries in the bottom of his boil & no muscles that usually are in the boil. He has ALWAYS gotten this boil & never has he had French fries in the boil. Today, my mother and father go to the restaurant to ask for a redo of the boil. The ignorant and rude manager yelled at my mother and told both of them to get out of his establishment. To not give a whole new seafood boil that hasn't been eaten out of or refunded almost $40-$50 for one item, that my father gets every-time we eat there is unacceptable!!! I've always heard people tell us and seen reviews for myself to not eat there. For instance, the owner has been called out by racial profiling & being racist in general. It's not a good look. I've tried to continue anyways because I've never experienced it myself... And I NEVER do reviews. Even if the food was delicious at a restaurant, I never do online reviews. i will just tell people the place was great and try it out... But this restaurant, needs a new adjustment!!! They give you a ton of food. Enough to feed 4, there were only three of us so we ended up with some left over from our choose two orders. I've been here a few times, and it's hit or miss. Sometimes the food and service are very good, and other times it's just bad. If you go during the evening on Friday or Saturday or lunchtime on Sunday, that's when it is usually best. The people who own this restaurant need to learn a thing or two about customer service. I saw a toddler fall down and hit her head very hard in front of the owner and he laughed it off and told the parents she was fine, even though the kid was wailing. Talking to the person in charge and he was very rude trying to say I was trying to get the larger portion for the cheaper price. Never entered my mind to do that since I don't cheat. Had to bring half of the meal home since it was more than I wanted. He flat out said the restaurant wasn't paying the difference and admitted the waitress should have verified what we wanted. The one they gave me wasn't even on the menu. So basically watch what you order since they charge higher than menu prices. And better take a scale so you can weigh the steak at your table since he said I should have known it weighed more than the one I wanted. Outstanding! What a great find! Food was SO good, portions were generous, yummy hush puppies and coleslaw! We had the fried flounder which was flavorful and not at all greasy. Though there have been some quality inconsistencies, nothing has been "bad" and it's definitely a better seafood option than that place across the river. I used to work at the captain's galley before this opened and they haven't changed it much since I've been there. My dad got a steak and he said it was really tough. Last night was our first visit to Seagull's, and we were impressed. We ordered two Calabash shrimp plates, and they were out in about five minutes. We didn't even have time to finish the complimentary hush puppy appetizer they lead with. I very seldom find Calabash shrimp done really well. It's normally overcooked and greasy. Seagull's did it right. It wasn't greasy, and the shrimp was melt in your mouth tender. That means two things - the shrimp was fresh, not frozen - and the shrimp was fried exactly the right amount of time, and didn't sit on a warmer. The french fries I ordered as a side were also perfect and melt in your mouth tender, and not over-salted. The fried okra was not quite as top notch, but it was acceptable. My wife had cole slaw as a side, and it was the way I like it - slightly sweet, mayo based, and without a lot of extraneous stuff in it. The portions were generous, and our bill for my wife and I was under $20. (We just had water to drink). Our server was friendly, informative, and honest about various menu items and sides -- meaning she told us what was fresh and what came from frozen (the fried okra). We appreciated that. We'll be back to Seagull's many times. We treasure Calabash shrimp done right, and the only other restaurant I've ever patronized which does it as well is all the way to Myrtle Beach!
