Had a 10oz Ham boneless ham steak and Eggs this morning with some red potato hashbrowns There was just 2 of us at opening had place to ourselves at 7 am Sunday I requested the ham steak well done eggs over Easy, they were also happy to substitute 2 slices of twist for o e slice Of French toast. They had a nice wine collection at the bar when we walked in, but it was way too early for that so we ordered some eggs and coffee. It was like it was sitting around for a while and to warm it they just threw it in the grill and partially crusted burned in spots. I asked for medium rare and it was anything but. I do appreciate that they are nearby my home, but I'd rather go to Raffaello's on 7th since Raffaello's is a third cheaper, has larger portions, and more complimentary bread, butter, salad, marinated bell peppers, and bruschetta. When visiting a city whose restaurant climate is unfamiliar to me, I like to play "Yelp Roulette". I look up "Best Restaurant" and "Highest Rated Restaurant" for the city and I chose between the top picks. Oddly, both lists can be vastly different. It's as if Yelp doesn't believe in it's own algorithm. Shouldn't the "Highest Rated" be "The Best" in Yelp's eyes?!? If anyone knows the reason for this, let me know. Do "Yelp Elite" reviews or frequent reviewers weigh heavier in "The Best" category? Aaaaaaaaanyway, I was in San Pedro and Seaside Bistro was a ways down the list on "Highest Rated Restaurants, but Number 1 in "Best Restaurants". In the case of Seaside Bistro, Yelp must know something us run of the mill reviewers don't! This place is very unassuming from the outside & even more so on the inside. It's in the corner of a pod mall and the food definitely outshines the interior design. Maybe this is how they keep prices reasonable, which they are, especially for the quality. The tables are close, so, even without eavesdropping, you know how everyone's dining experience is going & how they are enjoying their meal. Most seemed to be locals who were enjoying their long time favorites. All were eyeing each other's food & wondering if they made the right choice from the varied menu. Everyone seemed happy & i overheard one gentleman say it was the best clam chowder he had ever had. I almost got a cup! He also liked the beet salad. I am a huge fan of roasted beets in salads & they have two that I need to try. The server sold me on the Surf 'n' Turf special which was a perfectly cooked NY strip steak covered with 3 huge shrimp. The steak was good sized, also, but hard to see under the shrimp in my pic because they were so big. It was covered in a slightly spicy (cajun?) sauce with a bright hint of lemon that went well with the shrimp, steak AND the garlic mashed potatoes. I got an "Mmmmm, that looks good!" from two tables away as the server set the plate in front of me. A couple bites in, I assured her it was! it was a very friendly vibe. I was looking for comfort food and this hit the spot perfectly. It was served with soft & warm on the inside & crusty on the outside French bread. The oil/herb mix for dipping was spot on! The service was also EXCELLENT! The two servers & a busser were ALL OVER IT, working together to keep everyone happy, even though there were quite a few tables inside, plus a large party on the patio. GREAT JOB!!! It's an ambitious menu with breakfast, lunch, dinner, Mexican, Italian, American, steaks, etc. I will definitely be back to try some different offerings. I tried to address this with the establishment via FaceBook, because for some reason I got really sick. But they just bad mouthed me and then blocked me from their site. Apparently, at "Eat At San Pedro", you can only leave Positive comments or you'll be blocked. I gave them a warning that if they didn't reinstate me, I'd go to Yelp. I have been to seaside bistro 4 or 5 times now (for breakfast only so far) and each time is just as good as the last! My biggest pet peeve with restaurants is inconsistency, and Seaside is just on point every single time. They have it down and ALSO have possibly my favorite pancakes ever. The grilled salmon and the chicken marsala were very good, but the mashed potatoes were embarrassing and ridiculous. They were $8.00 of obviously flaked potatoes from a box. So below the standard that they want to present as really good. I should never have eaten any of them, they were so runny and ridiculous. Then we unfortunately ordered the chocolate lava cake and ice cream. That was also ridiculous--so stale I spit it out. My husband ate some or I would have (should have) refused to pay for it. This is my second time eating at Seaside Bistro and it did not disappoint. We were looking for a place that was still open and Seaside Bistro was one of the last to close in the area. I got the chicken fettuccini and my dad got the pork chops. Both were excellent. The bread, to start, was delicious as well as the dipping sauce. There were only two other customers at the time and it was almost closing time, yet staff was still great. The ambiance is dark with lots of pictures, which is nice. All the staff and specially Angel the owner and chef has been very kind, attentive. He was willing to made slight modification to the menu due to my grandma having some restrictions on her diet.
