Over the river and through the woods to SEAVIEW CAFÉ WE GO. Seriously great, homey spot in this fun little historic town. Probably the only bar in town, but a great one. Great beer on tap, served in a nice mason jar. Food is shockingly good. They could easily phone-it-in here, but they don't. Bartender is always friendly and the bar is always filled with potential friends. I once chatted with a real-life gold miner for a couple hours. Fun shows here all summer long, closed in the winter :(

Holy hell, was this place fantastic! Was told by one of the guys that works for Nova River Runners to go here for lunch - and boy, am I glad we did. This establishment is situated in a small historic city - "Hope City" - that was originally a mining camp established in 1896. It is completely unassuming and so quaint, it was absolutely fantastic. The water is served in mason jars. The service was friendly and fast without that rushing you out the door feeling. The fresh Alaskan fish was plentiful and served every way possible. The food was just delicious. If you're anywhere near Hope - or driving down the Seward Highway - this place is certainly worth the 17 mile drive off the beaten path! Oh, and I hear they have live music on the weekends AND that the Nova guys hang out there - which is enough to make me want to go more often!! Go! Go! Go!

Chintzy portion of halibut and burnt chips

Hmm so my last encounter at the Seaview was great for me, but not for my honey.... an aquaintaince that just happened to be seated on the patio next to us ordered the halibut and chips. It looked beautiful, nicely portioned and tasty. So my love ordered it and when it came out it was literally half the size and the chips were just burnt dregs that were inedible. It was really shocking... I should have taken a picture of them side by side. I can't believe we paid 24 dollars for the pile of nonsense. On the other hand, my rueben was fan-ucking-tastic... as good if not better than the ones from the Jewish delis back home in Jerz. But again, my chips were just a pile of shit. Burnt dregs from the fryer...but it didn't matter because my sandwich was so frickin big. And our server was seriously taxed and it took forever for her to swing back around and check on us and eventually get the check and whatnot. But I was okay with the waiting cause its Hope and everything moves really slowly here which is actually kinda refreshing. We were there from the dinner to bar/live music transition so it was a little chaotic and entertaining to watch. The non bar dining side is very small and poorly ventilated so oce they close the patio for music, I would not recommend eating there unless it's a cool day and you don't mind waiting.

Had a blast at the Seaview. We are thankful for the staff allowing our 2-year old to hang with us in the barroom. Wings were amazing! Bartender was very friendly and personable. The musical entertainment was 2 hrs of nonstop toe-tappers and classics--he was awesome but his name escapes me. We stumbled into the off the beaten path gem and we are forever in love with Hope & the Seaview.

Very cute. Certainly the only thing in this little town. The staff was sweet, the view incredible from the bar. The rest of the restaurant has a mountain view, no water, which is still pretty but not"sea view" Menus simple. Fries Are dynamic. Salad dressing is great, but some of my lettuce was browning on the corners and that turns me off. My husband have the report of amazing chowder!! So go ahead and get some fries and chowder. Oh and the wings too! Just avoid salads. Who wants to be healthy anyway?

Cool place. Honestly was not expecting to find anything in Hope Alaska but this bar came up and was great. They had a bar area with some live country rock and a quiet dining area. They take cards and service was great.

Open face meatloaf with in house made fries. No-bean chili with pint of King St. Nut Brown Ale.

We sat both inside and outside, and of course you can't beat outside on a nice day. Service is attentive and patient. They try to put us and our kids far away from the other customers which I appreciate (as I'm sure the others do too). The vibe is a little nicer than casual, I think you could make this a cute date night or a quick stop on the way to Girdwood or the peninsula. They have a good selection of draft beers and their food is great. I had the Caesar both times, but also tried their salmon burger and lemon spaghetti, which I shared with the kids. My recommendation for kids is to skip the basket of fries and get tots instead. I don't care for the skin on fries as much, but the tots were perfect. They seem to have a lot of interesting, fresh specials like a halibut Reuben that I'm sure is tasty. It's a great little destination when you want to get out of the house in the summer but don't want to do the same old spots in Anchorage. Check them out, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Before I start, I will say…read morethat it didn't start off on the right foot due to some issues with the people at the front reception. Besides this, everything else was great so I did not deduct any stars. Let me explain. We were a party of 4 and just arriving from NY, we were hungry. We walked in at about 4:30-4:45. We asked for a table for 4. We were told the wait will be over an hour. They asked if we would like to sit at the bar area, same food and probably would get service quicker. I said sure. We both want to look for a table and there were none, so I just told the staff that we will go to the bar area and wait while having a drink. We were given a buzzer. We came across a Maria bar table with a nice couple sitting there, and 2 open seats. I asked if we could sit there and they said of course. They then Deb moved over 2 seats arguing gave us 4 seats. I was do thankful for them being so nice that I picked up their bar tab. I noticed that the dining area has at least 5 open tables for 4 and 1 for 6+. I went up to the desk and told them this. I was told they were fit reservations and I couldn't have a table. Long story short, 45 min went guy and there were still open tables, I E's not happy and let them know. By this time though, our waiter Marco cans over to us and said he would take care of us, which he did. I told the front desk to forget our table and have them the buzzer back. ** My review starts*** Marco was a great waiter taking excellent care of us. We had a great time with Marco and our new friends next to us. I ordered the halibut stuffed with crab which was outstanding. My wife ordered the salmon which was delicious as well, I particularly enjoyed the crispy skin of the salmon, yum!!! Our friends ordered the fried calamari which he enjoyed and his wife had the salmon over a Ceaser salad. To finish it off, I had to get the lava cake for dessert.....hey, why not, I'm in vacation lol! Everything was great, the food delicious, Super Marco s the best!!! Great service and a great time. Just a shame it didn't start off on the right foot. Lesson: make a reservation!!!!!

The employee shook his head to indicate they were closed. It took a few weeks but I made my back on Thursday afternoon. And the experience was solid. I started with the chips and salsa. I'm noticing a trend of some places charging for their chips and salsa. What's weird is the places with the most authentic chips often have one complimentary basket. And places like this with a price tag have the store bought variety. But the salsas were delicious (and the hot was even spicy!). I asked for a second mild salsa since the containers were pretty small. The tacos were good. I went for a carne asada and a Birria. The carne asada was on point. Hot and tasty without being salty. The Birria was a bit dry. The cheese helped a little. I removed one of the tortillas and dipped it in the salsas to get a little moisture to it. It made me wonder if consommé is not a norm for Birria. The restaurant was spotless and very nicely apportioned. Lots of seating for a place that looks so small from the outside.

The pictures online looked amazing, the menu looked streamlined and neat. Upon entering it is a super cute place and decorated very nicely. We enjoyed the artwork on display. Everything looked nice and clean, 8/10. Service was attentive and great. She was very quick and polite. No complaints here whatsoever! The food.... We were going to order calamari ($20) to start, but they were out. That's OK! No big deal. I decided we could just start with chips and salsa. This is not a free with your meal chips and salsa like other places but it's a reasonable $5. We received a big basket of tortillas and I enjoyed both red red mild and green hot salsas. The chips were good too. I ordered the chalupa plate ($21) and it came with two chalupas filled with chicken/potato and a side of rice and beans. The rice and beans were good. I liked that it was refried black beans. I got through my first chalupa, moving the lettuce aside to check it out. I noticed my chicken was pre-packed type chicken slices. You know, the kind with "grill" marks you find at Costco that are ready for salads and already cooked. My heart sank. For the price point I was seriously expecting more. It is not difficult to roast chicken fresh and shred it for dishes... My partner ordered the burrito special ($25) and while it was a MASSIVE thing that could feed you 3x easily it was subpar to him he told me later in the car. While I did not partake in dessert I did check out the little menu on the table. While I know the odds of desserts being made in house are low, I always hope so. The desserts here are from Sweet Street Desserts which is a wholesale chain, so I passed. I'm sure they are tasty, but just not for me when going out to eat. Unfortunately I don't think this place is worth the cost of the food vs the quality. They would need to up their food quality and freshness game to bring us back...
