If I could give this place 10 stars I would! The staff and selection is AWESOME! I have never in my many years of living in Sebastopol (I've been here since 1997) had a bad experience in this place. Today JAY came to my rescue. He went above and beyond to be helpful, and I was in a crisis situation. My car was not starting (due to a battery in the keyless remote dying) and I was stuck in town needing to drive to go pick up a child at camp. I got a ride to the hardware store, I was super stressed needing to get a new battery, & figure out how to put it into my key and go to pick up my child on time. I was so frazzled. Jay could have just sold me the battery and said "Good luck lady!" But NO! He is an incredible, kind human who said, "let me see if I can figure out how to help you with this..." he proceeded to look up a YouTube video and watch it for just a minute and right away said "I got this!" He took care of it and showed me how to do it myself in the future. I just had to come here and YELP about it! WOW! SO NICE!! And everyone is like that in there, all of the time! SERVICE. It's still in vogue at Sebastopol hardware. The staff is Cheerful, helpful and committed to problem solving. They seem to have just about everything. The kitchen department is packed with treasures and it's so nice to be able to have things repaired there rather than sending them to the landfill. Extra bonus....the folks working at Sebastopol Hardware also seem happy. In 2001 my realtor said "just wait until you get to go to the Sebastopol Hardware store, there are men (women too) wearing red vests who actually ask YOU how they can help. She was right! read more

This place is cool. They have most of what you need if you have a small project at your house. Some of the people can be rude if they're having a bad day. Although they can be helpful to sometimes. The prices are way overpriced in most departments. If I am needing something that is really small and I don't wanna make the drive to Home Depot then I will go with them, but if I need something that is a little more pricey or I need maybe more than one thing I will go to Home Depot because they have a way better prices. Also the parking lot it's tiny it's hard to get in and out of that place. read more

I just visited the Sebastopol Hardware Center's Holiday Store today and it is so beautiful! The wonderful staff at the Hardware Center did an amazing job decorating the whole "tent" with everything you would possibly need to make your home special this holiday season. There are all sizes of beautifully decorated trees, huge assortment of ornaments and lights, and so many other unique decorations. It is so worth stopping by and checking out. Thank you to the Center's staff for their hard work to make this something we can all enjoy. It really put me in the holiday spirit! And don't forget...their 20% off sale is the first Saturday of each month (including all items in the Holiday Store). read more

I am so grateful to have a local alternative to Home Depot or Lowe's, where the nature of their business is bigness, but the customer is often left roaming the aisles, with no help in sight. (I've often wondered why these giant stores don't see the value of customer service). Our local Sebastopol Hardware, on the other hand, is people-friendly....there is always a helpful employee ready to answer a question. Just recently the paint department manager let me "trade in" a can of spray paint that wasn't working for my project, and gave me one more suited to what I was trying to accomplish, saying, "we want you to be a happy customer", or words to that effect. Now, THAT is customer service! You seldom get that recognition at the big boxes. read more

I remember when Sebastopol Hardware Center opened. I was a kid in Sebastopol and my dad would take us on a tour of businesses every Saturday. He was building our house and Sebastopol Hardware and Colombo Lumber were mainstays of the tour. Through the years, as the open lots and the trees behind it disappeared, this hardware store has remained a staple of the community. No matter what I need, I can find it here and it's always a great shopping experience. Great hiking clothing for rain or shine, pet food and toys, lumber, hard to find kitchen items and GREAT holiday things. And that's in addition to the usual hardware store fare. I can always find what I need and the staff actually helps you! Five stars are not enough. read more

Let's not kid around here. The prices here are much higher than the box stores. That being said if you ask someone a question 99.9% of the time you'll get an educated answer. Not the deer in the headlight stare like at those very same box stores. Plus my time is worth something to me so rather than drive all the way to Rohnert Park (whopps did I just give away what box stores I'm referring to? ) I can get the fitting or whatever I need and be home in the time it takes to get to the others. Customer service is hard to find anymore. You'll get that here. Just at a price. :-) read more

This is the best hardware store I have ever been to, I am so grateful it is so close to my home in Sebastopol. The staff is consistently super nice, and very well educated about their products. Every time we go we comment about how outstanding the customer service is here. I don't know how they do it, but I hope they don't stop because I am a loyal customer. In this day and age when it feels like customer service is a thing of the distant past, this place is the exception. Even if an item was more expensive here than Home Depot, I would happily pay it because the time and energy I save by getting such excellent help is well worth it to me. They have so many items here too, they almost always have everything I need. Their paint store across the parking lot is fantastic too. Love this place! read more

I hope this is still a local hardware store. Once I confirm it is, I will adjust the star rating. I can understand the prices being higher to help support a local business. The prices are slightly higher than a chain hardware store, but not much. I could probably spend hours and my savings here, lol. What a great selection! This is a small-town store with great customer service and people who will go out of their way to help you and find exactly what you need. Eclectic collection of all kinds of treasures you wouldn't think you might find at a hardware store. That being said the prices are very high ~ almost exactly twice what you would pay at a big box store :/ read more

The prices are much higher than other hardware stores, but they do carry a lot of stuff, and it's a fun store to just look around in. Most of the people who work there are very helpful, but the people at the counter are pretty rude and I'd rather just go to Friedmans from now on. read more

Know their merchandise and have everything! What more do you want? They got that too. And if purchased on the right day the prices beat Monster Store where they only know when their shift is over and not much more. GREAT small town hardware store! I've been a shopper here for several years, and just recently saw a sign that said they sharpen knives, scissors, tools, etc. I had two pairs of scissors that were dull, so I brought them in for sharpening. Got a voicemail from Steve a couple of days later saying that something had gone wrong while he was sharpening one of them, and that although they were probably ok, Sebastopol Hardware would replace them if I wanted. Today I went to pick them up, and they're just fine, sharp as hell. Here's the thing: Steve could've never told me anything, and I wouldn't have been the wiser. But he did the right thing. That's an honest merchant, and honest merchants deserve our business, especially small, local ones like Sebastopol Hardware. The friendly, knowledgeable staff will patiently take whatever doodad I bring in, even if I have no clue what it is (Yes, I'm THAT customer!) and guide me to the aisle where I can find what I need for it. And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that they almost always have what I need, from canning supplies to gardening needs. The one exception was when I needed some plumbing stuff a few years ago. Thanks so much for this store in helping me buy breathing respirators for my children as a result of the current firestorm assault occurring in Santa Rosa! It is very difficult to be three states away (New Mexico) and know that my children are in a distressful situation with the evacuation of my son and daughter-in-law from their home early Monday morning because of the fires. My son and his friend used their gumball machine and it ate two quarters. They told the staff who ignored them. We were driving home by the time they told me, so I wrote an email requesting they reimburse them their $.50. Seems trivial, but I would have at least appreciated a return e-mail. They also have a Draconian return policy -- the PACKAGE cannot be damaged, much less the product. read more

I have been shopping in this store for at least 30 years. I love the service they give. If you want slightly cheaper prices go to Rohnert Park to a big box place. But if you want some actual help and you want the right part, and perhaps some expertise, go to Sebastopol Hardware. They are a very nice bunch of people who will try to help. read more

Wonderful community minded locally owned store that just keeps getting better. GREAT place for gift and holiday shopping. The folks who have been there longest are like hardware gurus... they are very good at figuring out how to manage in the world of non standard parts; repairs, maintenance, etc. Keys can be made, screens and glass repairs, there is a pet and paint section separate, respectable garden and patio section, nice housewares and kitchen goodies, great canning supplies and classes. Even a decent selection of clothing, boots, gloves, hats etc. We are really fortunate to have such a great business in our community! read more
