I was craving a sandwich, wanted to try something new, and support a small business. We came by right before closing, around 3:15pm on a Saturday. The older couple running the place were just the cutest, super sweet and accommodating. We probably walked in about five minutes before their actual closing time, and they were already cleaning up, but they insisted on helping us anyway (even though we would have totally understood if they didn't). We ordered the two vegetarian options on the menu. I especially loved the bread on the cold sandwich. It was fresh, soft, and slightly sweet. The veggie melt just needed a bit more salt, but I liked the hint of spice. Overall, good solid sandwiches, but nothing particularly standout. We paid about $30 for two sandwiches, one bag of chips, and a small tip. A bit pricey for what it was, but I appreciated that they use fresh, quality ingredients. Honestly, not sure I would go out of my way to come back (unless I was already in the area), but it was a nice experience and I'm glad we tried it. The customer service was exceptional, and that is what would bring me back if I was nearby. Parking is easy since the shop is in a plaza.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Second Reef is tucked in an unassuming plaza, you'll have to park and walk into it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's the same plaza as pure hockey + Greek bistro. If you park near pure hockey and look over to the Greek bistro you'll see second reef! The customer service here is excellent and they are very helpful. Sandwiches are always delicious and you can see them make it in front of you so you know it's fresh. Definitely in our rotation for sandwiches! :)

Second Reef Deli hit it out of the park! I ordered the Brooks Street Hot and it was perfect turkey warmed, bread toasted, and super generous with the avocado. Fresh, flavorful, and made exactly how I asked. The service was just as good as the food. The gentleman and lady behind the counter treated me like family friendly, attentive, and genuinely kind. A great deli with fresh ingredients and staff who take pride in making a sandwich. With the ease of online ordering it is easy to forget what passion and art goes into the food we eat when we never interact with those who prepare it. Tried Second Reef Deli for the first time today and what a gem it is. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Nothing fancy or trendy about the interior of the deli, but that doesn't matter when the sandwiches are so delicious![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I came after the lunch rush and got the chance to witness the care taken to make our sandwiches. You might think I'm overthinking what it takes to make a sandwich but not here. They didn't slap the food on the bread and quickly spread the aioli about. They didn't skimp on the produce or have parts of the bread barely covered with toppings. They took time to make sure it all fit and was made carefully so eat bite is satisfying. There is a ton to choose from here and even the fountain machine ice was exceptional. Bits of broken ice with cubes produced a faster chill to my Diet Coke than when it's just cubes. Didn't spill out either and overfill the cup with ice so I was pleasantly surprised. If you want a high quality deli sandwich and a great price, you need to stop at Second Reef Deli!

Not bad service is a little stoic but they get the job done here. Had an Italian sandwich, forgot the name, the one with three types of meat and provolone. Was rather bland but did the job. I can tell how good a sandwich is by how fast I eat and finish it. Normally, it takes me 2 minutes to finish a remarkable sandwich. Took me 10 minutes to finish this and I was hungry. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Cool and comfy outdoor seating area and inside the vibe is dead.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Not a bad place but unremarkable.

We were craving something cool and refreshing with the heat this weekend, so visited Second Reef Deli for the second time to get some sandwiches. Got the same sandwiches we did last time - the Brooks Street & the Varazze (italian). They were even better than I remembered. The bread had a perfect chew to it, and the bread to sandwich filling ratio was spot on. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Nice and air conditioned inside, with coke fountain drinks (diet coke is my preferred drink of choice)![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Seemed like a steady stream of customers coming in and the staff was really sweet. A great environment that makes you think where we live in beautiful Southern CA. Loved the location close to the freeway. The sandwich I ordered was fresh and stacked with my choice of ingredients. The bread was fresh and provided a great selection. The owner greeted me and my family very warmly. He was very concerned about providing us a positive experience. You're paying over $10 for sandwiches and salads that don't even get you full and leave you feeling meh when you come to Second Reef Deli. I was recommended to come here by a co-worker who really liked their sandwiches. And after coming here twice (I decided to give them a second chance), I don't think I'll be eating here again on my lunch breaks. The sandwiches are average and the salads are no better than the ones you can pick up from the supermarket. PARKING: Easy. This is a large shopping center, so it's no trouble to park and walk inside. This deli is located near Pengo Drink Station and Greek Bistro. INTERIOR: Clean with lots of seating inside. You order at the counter, pay, and seat yourself of can take it to-go. They also do online orders for convenience. FOOD: -Tuna Salad: The first time I came, I ordered their tuna salad. To my dismay, after taking the salad back to work...THEY FORGOT MY TUNA. It was just a salad! Had to drive back their so they could add it in and at the end of the day the tuna salad was so dry as if the mixture was laying out all day. -Chicken Breast Salad: I ordered this salad the next time I came in and enjoyed this much more than the dry tuna salad I got the first time. I did get full eating it. But felt that the taste was satisfactory and something I could have whipped up at home. I wasn't blown away. -Salt Creek: Their hot pastrami sandwich was good, but tiny. Another co-worker came with me the second time, and even after eating this sandwich wanted to make a stop to another store to get more food. The sandwich wasn't filling enough for a lunchtime break. Don't be fooled by the pictures displaying sandwiches overflowing with meat. The sandwich itself may be thick, but length-wise leaves much to be desired. PRICE: May be competitive to other delis if the food was outstanding. But considering the food is small portion-wise and okay-ish taste wise, you're overpaying. Overall: After the lunchtime debacle my first visit, I decided to come again and am still left with the impression that this deli is mediocre. I've had better and larger sandwiches for less (albeit in areas with lower property taxes). I don't think their salads and sandwiches are worth the money. Realistically you could spend a $1-2 more for better lunch deals in the surrounding area/restaurants in the same plaza. read more

Such great sandwiches, fresh and always delicious. The Mediterranean Orzo salad is delicious, highly recommend it as a side. We've tried the Brook's Street,The Maverick and Padang, all are delicious!! Staff has always been super nice. read more

After eyeballing this deli for weeks since we live down the road, it looked interesting since all the sandwiches are named after surf spots. I took a ride to this place since it's next door to Pengo in which makes delicious drinks to grab some lunch on a Saturday afternoon. I planned this out the beginning of the week since I wanted to see what all the hype was about on here. With a 5 star rating I expected to be mind blown, unfortunately I was not. To be perfectly fair this is my first visit and I've only tried this one sandwich (so far). I walked in while nobody was in there, employees were all in the back and no customers in line. A young teenage boy comes out with no greeting or smile and stands there and asks what I wanted. I told him I wanted the Brooks Street sandwich. The description had everything I like in it, turkey, bacon avocado & pepper jack cheese. I left next door to grab a drink and came back, waited about 10 minutes for my sandwich and watch a guy with dark hair adding avocado to my sandwich. He was actually friendly and asked if I wanted a bag and told me to have a good day which I appreciate. Once I get home I'm anticipating a magnificent sandwich and I open up to a standard looking sandwich. The bread was not toasted or warmed, just a basic grinder roll cold and chewy. Bacon was like the ones you buy precooked in a package, once again cold with nothing done to it at all. I literally thought wow, I really should've made this myself. Pros - Avocado was generously put on this sandwich not to mention it was a huge sandwich. I want to be supportive of a new sandwich shop in my neighborhood but this was my honest experience. I should've planned better and ordered the Padang Padang everyone seemed to rave about and or at least ask for the Reef Aioli to try and spruce my sandwich up. For being the most expensive sandwich on the menu at $10+, it was not too impressive. I love the idea of this, the cool surf theme, a deli in the neighborhood but I am truly hoping my next experience will prove me wrong. I don't know if I truly want to go back and pay for another basic sandwich BUT like I said I want to like this place and support a local business. Til next time Second Reef, no more rookie mistakes - I've got to ordered the right things and hope this place provides better customer service next time. Making the customers feel good will make your food taste that much better. read more

Excellent sandwiches but you must be patient. Quality and taste take time (not anything absurd), and this place is definitely a local favorite. We had a pastrami grinder and the equivalent of an Italian sandwich on their house rolls. Delish!! Very well made. Great flavor. For the price, I'd like something a bit bigger, but still enjoyed this meal! read more

So so good. Friendly environment. Wonderful owner. Had the squaw bread it was great. My son ate the entire turkey sandwich. The potato salad was really great. I loved all the outdoor seating. I feel like I'm always looking for someplace healthy to eat around this area and there's really nothing. So I was happy to see a new place and try it. The house sauce they put on the sandwich was really good. It had just the right amount of kick. Request it! The amount of turkey I got in my sandwich was a good bang for my buck. They are conscious of where they buy their bread and get local ingredients. The oreo shake could have been thicker. I'm sure they'll figure it out. But it's a sandwich shop and they definitely got that right. read more

I think the owner likes them little crystals that give you energy because his teeth were jacked. I also think he was high when he wrote and priced his menu because I got a childs sandwich for 11 bucks. However the sandwich had really good flavor and the bread was perfect. I just think the place is hurting because of the covids. Fix your menus, put energy and your heart into the place and you could kill it. read more

Excellent deli in South County. They understand a great deli sandwich must start with exceptional bread and meat. Add fresh quality produce and careful assembly and you have a perfect deli sandwich. Excellent sandwiches! We tried the pastrami, which was nice and juicy, as well as the turkey avocado bacon sandwich (forgot the actual name) and we enjoyed both. The turkey sandwich was stuffed with so much turkey, we felt we could've just shared one with a couple of sides, and it would've been enough for sure. Would go back if in the area. read more

I came in to the shop because It was the closest food to where I was. this was my 1st time here let alone to find out I just found the best sandwich shop in the world I accidentally ordered a salad because I didn't read the menu correctly and it was the best salad ive ever had they put so many toppings on it and I believe I was speaking with the owners and their the kindest people this is definitely a worthwhile sandwich job to try and I can't wait to come back and try all of their sandwiches read more

Stopped in here super quick to grab something before going to church and was so pleasantly surprised at the delicious food and quality! The owner chatted with us for a bit about why he started the business with his family and he was sooo nice and helpful. He made our sandwiches with a lot of attention to detail (unlike other delis where they just throw everything on the bread and wrap it up). The selection of chips and drinks was really good too, plus he gave us a free side of house-made potato salad which was bomb! Definitely coming back! Thanks Second Reef! read more

Family owned business making sandwiches the right way. Fresh bread, fresh produce, great meats. Surf videos, chill music that isn't too loud so you can converse. I've had the meatball sandwich and the tuna melt. Meatball sandwich had tons of meatballs, hot browned mozzarella cheese on top. Perfect blend of marinara, cheese and meat on a warm soft roll. The tuna melt was golden brown, cheese melted and the delicious sourdough bread held up and wasn't soggy in the middle. Absolutely delicious. Rivals Board and brew's Turkado. This sandwich is literally big enough to be two meals or I split it with whoever I'm having lunch with. The people working are always nice and professional. With a place like this so close to home it's a shame that people still go to Subway or Togos. Jersey Mike's is still good but this place is in a different league. read more

Absolutely, 100%, without a doubt, the best sandwich in Southern California. Such unique and thought out Sandwich ingredients, perfectly executed every time. TOP QUALITY stuff and generous portions. The family LOVES sandwiches from Second Reef Deli and the staff are extremely friendly. The only time I went to this location was for a meatball sandwich and their machine wasn't working. Everyone is really friendly, sandwiches are huge & I, personally, think everything is decently priced. You're in Laguna Hills & it's a small business so obviously its not going to be the price of going to Subway or something lol but it's for sure worth your time to go in & get something!! read more

Great sandwich! I came in today and order their veggie sandwich and it was very good. Nice customer service and the owner has good rapport with his employees and customers and you can tell that he really likes what he is doing. Nice vibes. Went on for lunch today and it definitely lived up to its 5 star rating! The server asked me if it was my first time and it was so he ran down the menu for me, so refreshing as most order at the counter restaurants don't do that. He told me which sandwiches were the most popular, I had the #2, roast beef on sourdough, the roast beef was sliced real thin and the veggies were all fresh and delicious. I can't wait to go back and try the other "favorites". Updated Food is still good, but it bugs the crap out of me how the owners of this business sit in the corner and basically stare at their employees. Go home and just come in to open and close If you're just gonna sit there and do nothing. You turn me off from wanting to come back, go sit in the back if you have to be there for some reason!! Sooooooo yummy! Their sandwiches kick butt! Total surf vibe, the employees and owner make it a point to talk to you and help you choose. Love businesses like this, the definition of how a person in customer service should be. I entered Second Reef Deli without a plan and discovered a wonderful experience. The Varazze sandwich presented an excellent taste experience because it combined fresh Italian meats with tangy provolone cheese and the perfect level of tangy dressing. The bread maintained its crusty exterior while providing a soft interior which created a delightful eating experience. The staff provided friendly service at a rapid pace even though the restaurant maintained a constant stream of customers. The staff processed orders with speed while avoiding any sense of urgency. The deli offers a peaceful environment with both inside and outside dining areas which creates an ideal setting for casual dining. Discovered this place on accident when having to get something with my son at the Boy Scout Store, a couple doors down. It's kind of hidden in this "alley" of the Dunkin Donuts and 24 Hour Fitness center. Family run business which I had no idea until after a couple of visits. The amount of high quality deli meat that they apply to each sandwich my wife and I were blown away! My wife got the Verase (the Italian cold sandwich) and the Turkey with sprouts on squaw bread (can't remember what they call it). Both my wife and I could barely get our mouth big enough to bite into our sandwiches, that's how much meat they pack on to their sandwiches. I work near Second Reef Deli's and when I tell you I love this place I am not kidding. My coworkers and I ate here at least once or twice the week. All the sandwiches are made fresh greens and meet! If you're looking for sandwiches that are quality, taste amazing and the customer service is excellent this is your place a clean bathroom and friendly staff, run by the friendly owners.
