Almost $23 for a small sandwich and a regular fountain drink. It wasn't worth the price even in this economy. Should have been cleaner environment and bathroom should have been up kept. I haven't been to this place in quite a while. Its got a chill vibe, Hawaiian Island Beach theme so to speak and a lot of good menu choices. Sandwiches are huge and filling. I also had the potato salad on the side, which was bought in, not house made so I would avoid it. Lots of TVs and good music playing. Give them a try. read more

I got the Hobie with Swiss cheese instead of provolone. it was delicious! also potato salad was good. it does taste like that big one you get at Costco called "Resers" but it was tasty so that's what matters haha! Idk if it is made in house but sandwich was awesome. Beach hut is such a chill spot, parking can be tricky as it's in a tight corner with other restaurants. Either way it's so worth it and my go to is the pastrami sandwich, I order it hot so I feel like the pastrami is cooked well enough that the edges have a bit of a crunch yet still very chewy. The workers are usually pretty nice, when it gets busy you can see how hard everyone is working to get those orders in. You have plenty of seats inside and each booth has a tv. Sometimes you do have to wait for your order but it's never to the point that when you get your sandwich you feel like it's been sitting out too long. read more

I usually love beach hut deli at the Costa Mesa and Dana point location. We were craving it when going about our errands and decided to place an order here. We placed the order online and got an email saying we should call to check on our order since it's been 5 minutes and they haven't accepted our order. We decided to go in and sit down. There were TV's on every table which was unique. The tables themselves were dirty with crumbs leftover from previous customers. The menu screen was not turned on- only the draft list which was interesting. They had tangible menus though. The staff were all making sandwiches and no one was able to man the register, take orders or answer phone calls. A long line started to form and I saw people get upset waiting for so long to be helped. The reggae music in the dining area was nice but it was overshadowed by the staff blasting other annoying and loud music like "starship". This resulted in a chaotic ambience. We waited for our 2 sandwiches for half an hour- they might as well just have given us the ingredients because I was having to put the sandwich together. It was falling apart. All hope was lost when I went to the bathroom. Their toilet bowl looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a year. There was trash on the ground, no toilet seat covers and soap residue on the wall. There was gunk on the sink... I couldn't believe the conditions. It was absolutely disgusting. You can tell a lot about restaurant hygiene by the conditions of the bathroom... it was not good. Unfortunately very disappointed from my most recent experience at beach hut deli. I ordered two cali caprese sandwiches and a grilled cheese... the entire order came out 10 minutes late which I am typically fine with, but when I got home I noticed both sandwiches were room temp even though a hot grilled cheese was on top of it and one sandwich lacked cheese, while both sandwiches appeared to be served on just plain bread instead of the toasted garlic bread. Extremely disappointed and am currently trying to get a refund but have called the number 5 times with no pickup. I don't know if they have fallen far or this is just a blip. On the positives - the staff was friendly and the ambiance was nice and they refunded the two caprese sandwiches which I appreciated. read more

Had to wait for our order to be ready even though it was an online pick up order. I have eaten at the Beach Hut in Dana Point as well as the one in Costa Mesa/Newport. This location's sandwich quality was worse in comparison to the other 2 I've visited. Our sandwiches were flimsy and could barely hold any of the little toppings that were inside. The sandwiches at this location were not as stuffed as the ones we normally get at the other 2 locations, including not as much avocado. I even ordered extra veggies inside but there wasn't any extra. To make matters worse, the employees were playing their own music (party music from early 2000's) while the restaurant's reggae music was playing. You could clearly hear 2 different songs constantly playing over each other. The music the guys were playing as they were making mediocre sandwiches was awful and was the cherry on top of a poor experience. I noticed other customers looking over at the employees while 2 different songs were loudly being played over each other. The young guys didn't care and were giggling like the high school students they probably were. If the employees weren't playing their own crappy music right by all the customers, I probably would've given this place 3 stars instead of 2. read more

I really want to love this place, and honestly, I do when it comes to the food itself. I'm gluten-free, and their GF bread is some of the best I've had. The sandwiches are always fresh and delicious, which is why I keep coming back. That said, the last two times I've gone, my order hasn't been followed correctly. The first time, I asked for no mustard, and my sandwich came loaded with mustard. This time, I asked for my sandwich to be toasted. The girl at the register even noted it on the order, but when my sandwich came out, it was cold. I debated saying anything but decided to mention it on my way out since it's happened twice in a row. The girl told me she saw it come out wrong, said she had entered it correctly, and then blamed her coworker (the same guy who messed up my last order) for not doing it. She asked if I wanted some toasted bread instead, but I had already eaten my sandwich. What bothered me most was that her reaction was completely unphased. She didn't apologize or take any ownership, just shrugged it off. As someone who manages a business myself, if you know an order is wrong, you fix it before handing it off to the customer. The food deserves five stars, but the service and lack of care bring it down to two. Hopefully management addresses it because it's disappointing to see the same mistake happen twice with no effort to make it right. read more

Not in a hurry, but not waiting for 30 minutes for a sandwich really?. Seriously understaffed, and when they do have someone at the counter it's like talking to Spicoli from Fast Times at Ridgemont High (dates me I get it). Went back to this place that we liked from a year ago. We were going from L.A. to San Diego and stopped here for lunch. They're on the corner of an L-shaped parking lot. Parking can be okay before 12, but a little packed afterwards. And having construction trucks park on the side parking doesn't help also. Now onto the food. Their bread seems to be freshly baked, and is first rate...5 stars! The turkey meat, lettuce, avocado, etc. is very, very good. The bags if kettle chips are great. The surfboard tables are nice, but it's cramped when you sit down to eat. Our knees hit each other from the opposite sides of the table. They do take some time preparing your order. I would say a minimum of 15 minutes. I paid a tip because the young lady said she would bring it to the table. She wasn't around when one of the two guys making sandwiches called my name to pick up from the counter. Why tip them if you have to pick up your food from the counter, and then throw your trash away? That's why they only get 4 stars. But the sandwiches are excellent. read more

Stopped on way home from Camping - very hungry and very tired! First time here at Beach Hut Deli. Checked out menu and found a vegetarian sandwich called La Jolla. The blue cheese caught my eye (my fav) but unfortunately didn't even taste it in my sandwich! Maybe I waited to long to eat the food. Also got a side of potato salad, which was delish. Total for both was about $15. There was only one couple ahead of me and the wait was a little long for just their order and mine. There were a lot of workers behind the counter, that's great to see. The young lady that helped me was very nice. Inside restaurant is awesome! TVs at each roomy booth - lots of seating. Craft beer list and more drink options inside the wall cooler. Very clean and inviting. I'll have to try something different next time. Easy to access right off freeway and plenty of parking. read more

Interior was a nice beach theme with TVs at the tables to watch football etc. We had two sandwiches and a hard cider. They made a small error on a sandwich - gave us bacon instead of pastrami and forgot the Italian dressing. They quickly fixed it and brought us the missing items without issue. Appreciated the simple and quick resolution. Food was good! My mom and I shared two sandwiches. One hot and one cold. Toppings were generous and tasted fresh. The hard cider was good too. Mom and I hit up this joint because I asked her for a "good salad place." Mom has lived here since 1975, so she knows. Beach Hut is perfect for lunch. Extremely fresh veggies for salads and sandwich combinations you really want. They even have cold beer on tap, and one of those fancy Coke dispensers that makes any soda mashup your mind can dream up. Limited parking, but 10 seconds off the 5 freeway, you can come and hang out, or just stop by on your way to LA...they're very nice and willing to feed you. Dressings are all homemade and taste great. Service is friendly. They're directly on the path of MVHS students headed home, so I can't believe they don't have a frozen yogurt machine, but I think it's in favor of BEER. Big fan. You should go. Then I read the menu. Man the flavor of these "Marley Nachos" was amazing. Think carne asada fries, with beacon instead of carne asada. The nacho cheese has jalapeño flavor, which for some reason, went perfectly with the little green peppers they used instead. The service was great and even with it being rush hour, it wasn't packed. Beach hut deli's sandwich's are so yummy! I have never had a bad sandwich from them. I also love their nachos but I ate the nachos to fast to get a pic. Lol. One tip for the nachos is when I order them to go I will ask for the nacho sauce on the side so that the chips don't go soggy before I get home. I also love they have one of the bee types of coke machines with so many flavors of soda. My favorite sandwich there is the righteous Reuben. The Cali caprese is also so good. I eat here a lot and there food is very expensive. For a cup of soup and sandwich comes to $19.00 and I don't even get a lot of soup. No drink or chips included. Second, my sandwich was made with extra, extra mayo and I didn't ask for it that way. I wish the boy would not put so much mayo because the cream cheese and mustard is a lot already. I would recommend the Hobie but if you get the Surfin' Bird then ask with no or light mayo. Anyway, the donut deli in the shopping center also has sandwiches and they don't charge a lot for theirs.
