We LOVE Security Public Storage! And the first thanks has to go to Desiree in the front office. From the initial call to the time we finished putting everything in storage, Desiree has been amazing to work with; in terms of her customer service, positive attitude and desire to accommodate us however possible. In addition to the excellent service, we really liked the units and all the associated amenities; as well a smooth check-in process. The storage rooms were well kept/clean, there were plenty of carts to use, and even a moving truck for local pick-up of our larger items. We also felt very confident with the security of our items, based on the lighting, cameras, and other security features they have in place. Lastly, the prices are very good. We needed to get into storage immediately and felt that we got a great move-in rate compared to the other storage facilities we evaluated. In fact, we expected to only get one storage facility originally. After our experience the first day, we actually got a second. Friendly staff and a clean facility. I have stored here for years and always found the experience to be satisfactory. There are always plenty of trolley carts to use for big items. There are also handy items (boxes, tarps, tape, etc) available to purchase in the office. Very convenient location and they are closed only a few holidays per year. read more

I've been using Security Public Storage for half a year now and must say that everyone I have dealt with is profession and very service-oriented. Couldn't be happier with the place. Everything is clean and orderly and the staff if super courteous and go out of their way to help out whenever possible. For example, one day, I used my locker and forgot to put a lock on my space (duh!). The staff actually put a lock on for me until I came back again so that nothing was stolen or tampered with. I've shopped around and Joan & Michael over at SPS in San Mateo have always been very kind to us and given us the best price possible. They even gave me a deal for being on the first floor. The place is very convenient to get to - near downtown San Mateo, 101, 92 and even when you get inside, the units are all "right there". It's clean, safe, quiet - even a clean bathroom in the office. The passcode to enter the property also turns the alarm off in your unit. When you leave, you enter it again and the unit's alarm goes back up. Cameras and and computers everywhere. I've has my storage there for years. Staff has always been nice, but the current staff is outstanding! Desire has called me to remind me about my due date to help me avoid Late Fees. Not a good experience here at all regarding my unit. Anyone renting here make sure to measure your unit before putting some stuff in. I rented a unit a month ago that I believe was supposed to be a 5 x 10 ft unit. I thought it looked a little tiny since I had a 5 x 9 in SD for my stuff but thought I must be wrong and am getting what I paid for. After putting half of the stuff in I knew I must be right and measured the unit and it was 4ft 10 inch by 8 ft 9 Inches. Now if it was off 4 to 6 inches I am ok with it but by being off over 10% was ridiculous. I asked if I could have a small 1 ft area for the extra area and she said no. I wasn't going to move everything out and switch locations so had to pack my car full with the excess stuff to manage. It was a major hindrance and the lady just kept saying I want to make you happy what can I do and told her the suggestion of the extra foot somewhere or a discount of 10% since it is over 10% smaller than what I paid and she said she couldn't do that or help me move stuff already inside to a different unit. We kept going in circles and was a lost cause since they just keep saying what can I do to help but they wouldn't offer me anything beneficial other than me moving all of the stuff I had already put in the unit to another storage area a ways away.. Water under the bridge now but was a great lesson on saying you want to do whats right in customer service and doing nothing. Other than that everything was good and nice people at the facility so I will give it a star for that. . I want to start off with saying the interim Manager Desiree is awesome! Always very helpful, informative and friendly. This place has gone through a series of new managers over the last few years. My first complaint was when my first unit was getting crowded and the next unit became available, the old manager took down the wall and I was able to get a discount for renting a larger unit. When it happened again and I wanted to rent the next unit next to me the new manager said they didn't do that, but I could upgrade to a larger unit. When I talked to Desiree she told me they can do that and she's not sure why the Manager told me otherwise. The new management moved in about a week ago, and as I was leaving they approached me and said I needed to be sure to be out by 8 o'clock or I would be locked in. It was close to 8. Although, it may have sounded like they were being courteous, it came across a little rude an accusing. I came by 2 days after Memorial Day and the office was closed 6 minutes before 6 o'clock. The paper signs saying they would be closed for the holiday were still up throughout the facility. A few other cons; the facilities are not climate controlled so it can get rather hot when the temperature rises. I have seen mouse droppings, probably because some folks have unwittingly stored food even though they aren't supposed to. I have smelled smoke in the facility as someone smokes there, even though it isn't allowed. The tops of the unit are all open, so it is possible for someone to take a ladder and pull small stuff out of other people's storage units. read more

Very disappointed after paying a premium compared to a nearby competitor. Problems: 1) was told that I could use truck for BOTH move-in AND move-out. Yet when wanting to reserve if for move-out Manager just hid behind company policy and used the lame excuse that "Bob who told you that is no longer with the company and was inexperienced". Same with 2) Was told how much better and more convenient their more expensive drive-up units are - so rented one of them instead of significantly cheaper internal unit. Was NEVER told that they are INCREDIBLY DUSTY and that dust blows in through top of rollup door. So did not use anything to cover belongings. Again excuse was used that Bob is no longer with company. No attempt was made to rectify either of those 2 problems. Apathy was shown when I said I am extremely disappointed by this and would post about my negative experience on Yelp and never rent from them again due to this attitude. read more

When I first came to the storage unit I met a lovely manager name Desirre who understood my best friend and I were college students down the street. She helped us with discounts and realized that we both were not from the bay area and when we went home we can split payments and pay over the phone. Later on she called and told us she was leaving the company. Not noticing that her leaving meant that all of our amenities were going to be discounted. We no longer had our extra discount and now i have to pay extra for an extra 5 days. We also could not split payments and pay over the phone like we wee originally promised. Overall this experienced went from very helpful to very costly and I will not be returning. read more

The lady at the front desk was real nice, told me everything I needed to know and than I was on my way. I love that they have those carts there. A dolley or two would be nice but I think people would steal them which is why maybe they don't have them but whatever. I love their prices. I found them on craigslist and bytheway, you have to print out and bring in the ads from there for special price which is the best! I'm happy. Been here a few months. Reasonable price, well maintained, safe and clean facility and friendly staff are the reasons why I continue to be a customer. Great extra services such as $15 flat fee rental truck( no extra charges) and no extra insurance charge( already included in the storage cost) are other incentives as well. The reason why I didn't give all 5 stars is the inconvenience of online access registration to make an online payment or check account status. You have to fill out a hard copy application and mail or fax it in or submit in person for online access. I wish you can just register online directly without the hassle. read more

I was looking for a storage unit with a central location of my work area, Redwood City to Coastside to San Francisco. I called around and looked online and found that pretty much everywhere had a month discount in the beginning. I thought that was a good deal so I should worry more about location than price. Then I found out that these places had admin fees, must purchase their lock, and other random fees that I don't know what they're for. When I walked into Security Public Storage I was greeted by Desiree, a very kind and happy woman working the desk. She was pleased to help me get the storage unit at a better deal than the rest. A month and a half discount, no admin fees, and I could use my own lock. Awesome! I was moving into my new unit within 20 mins and couldn't be happier with thier customer service. This site is very secure. Each unit is alarmed, motion sensor security cameras, and gate code required to enter facility. And the gate hours begin at 5 am. I have rented many different storage sizes off and on over the years. I would like to see the facility stay open later like other storage places that stay open daily to 10pm vs closing at 7:45pm.
