They came out within ten minutes and switched my lock. I was so happy because I really wanted to enjoy the weather. Professional, quick and great value. We we're ghosted! Tom requested photos of the locks we needed rekeyed, we provided. He said he would get back to us that day, nothing. Called the next day, he said that day, nothing. Called the next Monday and his coworker said Tom would get back to us, nothing. Completely unreliable. Called Chicago Locksmiths and they came the same day. I'll begin by saying that I've written very few Yelp reviews before of any businesses, but I felt compelled to write something in this case. I spoke with the store owner about a problem that I was having with my back door deadbolt lock on an apartment I own in Hyde Park. He asked me to send him photos of the lock and the door, which I did, and he called me right back. He explained that they would be happy to come out and fix it temporarily, but that the issue would in the long-term either require a new door or a contractor to come out and reinforce the door jamb and the door itself (which is quite old). He urged me to get a quote from a contractor for this before deciding, as he said in all likelihood we'd be right back to where we are now in a year or two. How often do you come across businesses with that kind of honesty & integrity? I told him I would regardless be using him for all future door & lock needs, and he said he was happy to provide me with advice regardless "because that's what we do!" Not only that, but then I proceeded (a bit cheekily) to ask him if he wouldn't mind giving me advice on another deadbolt issue I was having with a door to my primary residence which is out of state. He happily said, "Sure! Send me photos and I'll give you a call back!" Wow. Just wow. I cannot speak highly enough of this company, and urge anyone in the Chicago area who has a lock need to give these guys a call! read more

Our toddler locked us out of our bathroom and they came right away. Our old Hyde Park condo had a strange lock and they had to go back to their shop three times to get the right tools which they did without complaint. When the job was finished there was a slight malfunction and they came back within 10 minutes to adjust this and make sure it was correct. We will definitely be coming back for all of our lock and security needs. read more

Very fast service and great prices. I called them to ask a few questions and they were nice and gave accurate information. I was able to walk in, duplicate a key, and be on my way shortly afterwards. It was around $3 to duplicate my key, which was totally worth it for me since I had tried a few other stores that weren't able to do it. USE THIS COMPANY. These guys (and possibly gals) are fantastic. Our condo association had them out to replace all of our locks and fix some other lock related issues; every step of the process has been great. This location is a satellite of the main location on the north side and the guy who works in HP is great. He helped me organize how I would get additional keys to unit owners (you can fax in a request and have the owners pick up from and pay at the HP location); this is making it a lot easier for the association to deal with unit owners who need additional keys. Not to mention, we switched to multi-lock and these guys charge less for these fancy keys than the place down the street charges for crappy Medeco keys. Also, the customer service and attention to detail is superb. I had the locksmith do some work on my unit door (paid for separately of course) and he fixed something that 3 other locksmith were unable (unwilling?) to fix. I need to say, my review of this locksmith is NOT this good simply because the other locksmith shop on 55th street is so terrible BUT Hyde Parkers need to know that this is a WONDERFUL alternative! read more

I just had a lock replaced on my condo door. I want to be clear that I have no complaint about the service. When I called to find out how much it would be. I was told the service call would be $125 and the lock would be $75. Be aware that the service call does not include the first hour of labor. The service call was $125 and the labor rate is $100 per hour. This was not mentioned in the original call when I was trying to determine the cost. read more

I kinda like it eh...I needed a key cut, and I've had better experiences and a little more help at the locksmith on 55th. I've been there, the interior design is better than the other one and I don't like the service here at all, that's the main reason we used the other locksmith, and I just was hoping for more here. Zero explanation of rates. I ordered two new dead bolt locks. I was told $250 plus $15 for an extra key. Now I am willing to accept that maybe I did not hear him say $250 EACH though it seems to me that they should have made sure I understood that. However, after installation I find that those prices did not include a $70 fee to drive out and labor. So surprise the bill is now $700!!!!!!! When I complained they gave me a 10% discount but the manager tells me that he heard the guy quote me the rates. Did not happen! I am a real estate professional and have lots of experience with contracting for work. This was a disaster. On the positive side, installer was good and prompt. read more

Fast, inexpensive, honest, friendly, competent, and didn't let the cat out. When I returned late last night and almost couldn't get in the front door because the always wonky lock had finally taken a dramatic turn for the worse, my vacationing landlords in California told me to call these people, who are around the corner from us, and go ahead and have the lock changed. I called them the next morning around 11; they said they could be there between noon and 2. Albert arrived around 1, looked at the lock, and said it just needed to be popped out and serviced, not replaced. He got the job done in around 20 minutes and also oiled the slightly sticky inner-door lock with some pleasant-smelling substance. All of this cost under $100 and I wish we'd done it years ago, because getting into the place is now a whole lot less character-building. Be aware that they have a dispatcher and seem to work city-wide, so you can't just walk around the corner and escort them back to your home if you live nearby, but I'd recommend them to anyone, anywhere. read more
