Sedanas doesn't want you as a customer if you don't speak Spanish ! was at the Sedano's on Curry Ford Road and I went to get some dinner from the prepared food section. I picked out some food and was really looking forward to it because the food is very good here. When I got to the counter they refused to wait on me because I didn't speak Spanish. I want to speak to the manager and he just Shrugged me off. I was very surprised that they didn't want my business but apparently they have a hostile relationship towards non Spanish speakers right here in the middle of Orlando! read more

Close to my house. I've stopped here in the past out of covienience. Tonight my other half insisted we go here for some grocery neccesties for the weekend. He was impressed his last visit (mostly because they carry some latin speciality items you cant find everywhere) I begrudgingly obided to going, but apprehensive as I've never had a good experience here. I was right. Tonight? Bad experience again. To start their selection is limited and their prices are high. Couldn't find: Taco shells? They carried just one box and overpriced- bought them as to not have to make another trip. Cat food? Limited brands, bought something I don't typically buy at 15 cents more per can than Publix. I needed shredded lettuce. One brand at almost 4 dollars a bag! Opted for just a head of lettuce. Soup. I was looking for chef boyardee or spaghetti o's. Didn't have. Cola? No generic brands at all and the Coke and Pepsi Brands? Again overpriced. You get the picture! Their customer service? Not good. Before checking out I was digging through a candy bin the had right near the register. There happened to be some poblano peppers on top of bin someone discarded. A female associate that worked there nearby angrily approached me questioning me about the peppers (in Spanish) I replied nicely not mine. She doesn't speak English so my husband translated. She scoffed grabbed them and walked off. Get to checkout? Not a hello, nod...nothing. Cashier just starts ringing. A "hello" or "how are you" should be standard. She ripped a bag loading it too full. I put back on counter and asked for a better bag. Rather than double bag it for us? Just handed us an empty bag. It just gets worse! She doesn't tell us our total. My husband runs his credit card. She leaves him just standing there waiting for 3 minutes while she's texting on her phone! Never again will I shop here! Sedanos is really out of my way. We don't ever shop here but my Puerto Rican mother in law was going to make us some delicious home cooking and needed some essentials. Sedanos is a very big supermarket and it has everything. Fresh produce, meat department and all the seasonings, condiments and tools we needed to make corned beef and stuffed tostones. The beans aisle had beans that I have never even heard of or seen. There was even an aisle of old school coffee espresso makers. We were going in circles looking for a specific brand of passion fruit (chinola) pulp and when we asked for help, we were pointed in the right direction and there they were, score!! I have mixed feelings - especially since I don't come here often but I think that that might change in the near future and I'll admit that it's mostly due to the cafeteria inside the store. I went yesterday but before that it had been several months and I saw that a couple of things have changed, in particular the one section that sells a variety of cuban style coffee's. It took me back, it really did, and I have to admit that it was an enjoyable experience. The cafesito (Like an espresso) was good, and the price even better at .53 cents. I sat there drinking and listening to a couple of old folks in their Guayabera's telling silly jokes and if I had closed my eyes at that precise moment I would swear that I was back in Miami Beach. It was around 3pm when I came, just in time for afternoon coffee, and the place was not that full so I would come around that time again, and maybe bright and early in the morning to have breakfast cuban style. read more

Sedano's is my nearest grocery store. It's located in the former Albertson's at the corner of 436 and Curry Ford Road. I am a chef and I actually like shopping for groceries. I also watch what I spend, constantly checking the newspaper (online too) ads on Thursdays to plan my shopping. Sedano's specials on meats and chicken are really unbeatable. I often buy a larger amount of an on sale item and portion it into small potions and freeze them. Growing up in Pittsburgh, I was used to going into the butcher counter at the market and being able to get sub-primal cuts of meat cut into steaks and ground to order. This is one of the few places where you still can do that. As far as I am concerned, the deli here is the best in town, with a great selection. I can get authentic prosciutto and Serrano at far better quality and pricing than the major chains. I frequently get Pan Cubano and baguettes at the bakery as well. The store caries a larger variety of items than most chain grocery stores, of course featuring a lot of Latin items. This is a meticulously clean store, that is well merchandised as well. I am impressed with the recent redesign and upgrades to the produce department as well. This is not just a grocery store, it's the heart of the community. It also has a doctors office, computer repair, beauty salon, jewelry and a tax prepairer. Also, I don't speak Spanish at all, and feel welcome and at home in this store. read more

I'd give negative starts if I could. This place is garbage. I purchase a whole pig to roast every year. I came this year to try and reserve one and arrived here at 8:00 on the dot, I went to customer service and waited there for someone and I was ignored for 20 minutes because apparently I look like a gringo. As your employees stated "¿Que hace ese gringo ahí?" And were then baffled and speechless when I asked about reserving a pig in Spanish. Couldn't reserve my pig, and still came back today for them to tell me that they're all sold out. Can't do it over the phone and wasted 2, hour long trips after working all day for absolutely nothing. But they won't allow you to reserve them over the phone. Your store sucks. Your customer service sucks, and the racist employees you have suck as well. As an owner of my own business, I would definitely fire my employees if their actions and standards of customer service were the same as yours. Negative 5 starts for this trash place. read more

But, there's always a but. if you know your prices, and shop their sales, there are some fabulous deals to be had. For example I was just there today. A package of dried black beans, normally .99 cents, the the going price. Well today two packages of dried black beans for .99 cents. There are other loss leaders to be had. Like I've said about other grocers....know your prices and be a wise consumer. I will continue to shop at Sedano's, it truly is a cultural experience, especially if you are of Cuban heritage. I went to get some croquetas and the lady totally ignored me and was asking the guy behind me what he wanted. He even said I was first and she said in spanish to him that it did not matter. Decent for a few specific things: hot deli lunch specials at a seriously good price, coffee, giant cuban sandwiches (at the coffee shop), cheap limes, cucumbers, and cilantro; specialty Latin spices, desserts and pastries, snacks, and drinks; cheap red wine, cooking oils on sale. Better prices on some hispanic canned items, larger variety of dry beans and lentils than your Publix. Somewhere to come a few times a year to grab chiles or other Latin pantry items. Produce should be consumed that day or the next honestly. Meat is hit or miss, but the skirt steak is sometimes OK - but you definitely need to try at your own risk and shop with your eyes. You'll just have to accept the cultural differences, like people standing around chatting in the aisles...that's just how they roll. Most staff seem hesitant to speak english (they're not being rude, they're just uncomfortable is more likely) but the managers are helpful. read more

For a crazy rainy Orlando day, at 11am, I was shocked at how busy this new store was. Though, they are located at the Semoran Blvd. and Curry Ford Rd. intersection which I'm sure has something to do with it. Either way, this store epitomizes the words "super market." People buzzed about buying and surveying produce, meats and standard pantry items. And if they weren't buying groceries, they could stop at the hot Churro stand, the jewelry counter, the cafe or the deli. A good deal of signage was in Spanish and overall, the store well-reflected its Latino foundation. The service was nice and there is pleny of parking. My family enjoys shopping at this Sedano's location. For the 1st time, the experience tonight was inappropriate. Yohanna (L1) was the cashier. Yohanna (L1) asked the customer a question. Unfortunately, the customer did not hear the matter when Yohanna (L1) did not get the answer. Yohanna (L1) decided to express her frustration by raising her voice in a snappy manner. I could understand if Yohanna (L1) was not having a good night, yet it is not right for a Sedano's employee to show such unprofessional conduct. Yohanna (L1), you were an unpleasant young girl. This is one of those places you come strictly for the steals in their add. A few weird smells inside the store and a couple one off shops located inside the store. Not purely a grocery store but more of a market type feel. Lines could be significantly more efficient but i got the few things i needed. Dedicated line for their seafood AND if you want to get some food for lunch they have a food ordering service in the right entrance as you walk in. This is a Spanish chain that was founded and is originally from Miami,FL. They decided to expand north of 95 in to Orlando and surrounding areas. I agree with many of the reviews here, the food here is in very low quality and over priced, this place is your version of a Spanish Wal-Mart but in a building that once use to be a Albertsons. Everything here expensive here and you are better of going to Publix for better produce as they look very old. Expensive but the reason I say it is like a Wal-Mart is because you can get a hair cut here or eat in door in there cafe , sounds like you can almost do everything here you can at a Wal-Mart. This place is nothing fancy but does have a lot of good Spanish items and you can get Cuban pastries here too, nothing out of this world with there food or pastries. The only thing I like is there ice cream selection has some good flavors like coconut and Mamey. Mamey is a very popular fruit for Hispanics and this ice cream is pretty good and actually the only thing that I like here. read more

The quality of food in this grocery store made me incredibly angry. Especially when I juxtaposed the prices and quality next to those at Publix over on Colonial AND grocery stores in California (which are some of the most expensive!). The carrots looked like they had been there for weeks and were white all over. It was also obvious that the apples and peaches were of the lowest quality, almost as if they were purposefully sent to this store because they figured the customers wouldn't care. All of the milk, eggs, and yogurt were at extremely high prices as well. The same thing would cost far less over on colonial at Publix. I left this market feeling sorry for the local community... this market is doing EXACTLY the same thing that the Safeway in my neighborhood does. Not really a fan after going a couple of times. I do like the experience that I am in another country since everyone speaks Spanish here. What I like best is they are the only place in town that sells Polar Beer and it's usually on sale at 9.99 for a 12 pack. I was a bit skeptical when I saw that the new "Sedano's" supermarket would be taking the place of the former Albertson's supermarket on the corner of Semoran Boulevard & Curry Ford Road. I read a good review about Sedano's in the Orlando Sentinel, so I decided to stop in and see what it was all about. I was actually quite impressed! First, the store is very clean and has wide aisles. They are still in the process of finishing the store. I would say it's about 90% complete at the current time. The prices are quite competitive. Some items are about the same price as Publix (i.e. - not LOW prices), but on their sale items, they have great deals. This week - they have Sedano's Milk - 1 gallon for 2/$5.00!!! Wow, that's very inexpensive. I believe Publix is charging $3.49 or $3.99 these days for 1. So, it's quite a savings. The seafood department is quite large, and the fish looked very fresh. They also had many more items then you would find in a Publix seafood department. The meat department looked quite fresh, and the prices were reasonable. The meat was all USDA Choice (thank goodness - Albertson's and Walmart sell USDA Select now - a much lower quality meat). They even had Black Angus beef, and it was at great prices!! The deli was very large, and was quite busy. They had a hot food section with delicious food that was quite reasonable. For $4.99, you can get a container of rice (with meat or without), entree (today they had chicken, beef or pork chops), and plantains. It was yummy!!! I'd suggest Sedano's to anyone. Its really not my favorite. Quite frankly it scares me. LOL. I mean I love my people, but its like walking into another world. They have a cute little cafe area with all kinds of goodies like empanadas, and pastelitos (none of which I eat) but its there. They are almost always playing spanish music when I go there and almost everyone speaks spanish. None of this I mind. However, their produce is way overpriced and not fresh at all! I was in a pinch and needed some garlic for a recipe and since this was on my way home I stopped in and the garlic was from China!! WTF... why do I want garlic from halfway around the world? No thanks. Even their basic items like cereals and juices seem overpriced. I don't think I've ever actually purchased food from here. Employees here seem to go the extra mile to try to avoid you and when you finally get one of their attentions, their body language and the look of unenthusiasm on their face is so blatantly obvious that it almost makes you want to tell them to go screw themselves. The hot food section does not replace food when its been sitting there for way too long and the whole store in general has a unorganized feel to it. Avoid if possible. The parking lot is a war zone where no one obeys simple traffic laws. read more

Sedano's is a very popular chain of grocery stores and discount pharmacies in the MIA, and when I heard they were closing down overpriced Albertson's on Curry Ford Rd and Semoran I was ecstatic! Why you ask? Because of the Prepared Foods Area! They don't serve lame fried chicken and mediocre sushi a' la' Publix...If you want legitamate Cuban style cuisine Sedano's is THE place! They have daily specials each day and a typical combo meal which includes either white rice and red\black beans or congri\arroz con gandules (for those from PR) And a choice of veg (i.e salad, mixed veg, tostones/fried green plantains, maduros, fried sweet plantains, yuca con mojo, and I think boniatos and mashed potatoes on occaision). As for main courses they usually have roast chicken, pork ribs/chunks, carne asada (roast beef in a sauce), carne con papas, picadillo, and my favorite ropa vieja, and some sort of fish option (enchilada de camarones, fried fish fillet, baked salmon etc.). They also have great soups (usually 2 choices, chicken and soup of the day). Prices are very reasonable considering you could easily split a combo with a friend and range from 4.99 to 6.99. As for the rest of the store...if you're lucky to live in the area and get their weekly circular mag you will see their crazy deals. Great things to get here are their cheap and quality produce, pantry staples when they're on special (I bought a 20 lb bag of rice for 4 bux, and six bags of beans for 1$), and meat ( I bought a huge side of beef a month ago for 20 bux and they cut it to order, and I just stuck the individually wrapped servings in the freezer). Why do I buy so much food...Mostly because it all lasts a long time, and there's three adults in my household, and we all work and go to school full-time so I tend to cook on the weekends and freeze meals to be reeated. Beans are a great item to re-heat...and rice can be made in 30 minutes, and well thin steaks can be sauteed quickly in under five minutes :D Another awesome thing about this Cuban family owned chain is that unlike Bravo they carry name brand and healthfood items like morning star, oikos, Bay's english muffins, glucose free, kosher, and sugar free! The only downside is that they have an independantly owned bakery running inside the store (don't confuse it with the quick service cafe upfront). The bread at the bakery is great (a loaf of Cuban is 99 cents), but their pastries are dry and their cheese pasteltitos (questitos for the PRs) look and taste like dry danishes ewww :( You'll have better luck with the pastelitos in the quick service cafe (except don't try their cheese ones, must be from the same place) where they also sell croquettes (these are frozen and fried to order, so they are "ok"), and empanadas, and Cuban sandwiches...unfortunatley they don't have pan con bistec, media noches....and like the rest of Orlando...No Elena Ruth sandwiches! Overall, this store is great, has a huge selection, and sell everything your average Publix AND hispanic grocery store would sell, but at a cheaper price. Also, if you need jewelry repair, redbox video rentals, or you're in the market for a new faja (girdle) there's a few kiosks at the front of the store that have these services! read more

What can I say, I like the fact that it is a Latin market and they have some items that you won't typically find at Publix, Walmart or Winn Dixie. I don't keep a log of prices, but they seem pretty fair and one item that I was particularly amazed to see they carried, and they carried multiple brands is ladyfinger cookies. Who would have guessed it?!?!? I don't think I am aware of any latin desserts that make use of ladyfingers ... but I certainly use them in making Tiramisu, so it was an awesome find!! The store also has an area with a small little cafeteria. I've been to Sedano's a handful of times and agree with some of the reviews I've seen so far. Not the cleanest place in the area. That being said, I only seek this place out for some authentic Cuban food just like my Abuela makes! Their lunch specials are appropriately priced within my budget: just $3.99 for a huge mound of rice and beans, a selection of meat or chicken and plantains or yuca root. Classic Cuban lunch. They have a few Hispanic sodas and juices/nectars for under $1 a can. In addition, after your meal, you can go up to the coffee counter and get a Cuban espresso or, my absolute favorite, cafe con leche (basically a cappuccino). I know that this type of establishment is probably very common for the Latin population, but even though I've been married to a Cuban man for over 30 years, it still amazes me when I go to this grocery store. this place is more than grocery store. I called to inquire about a product spoke to 4 different people waited on hold for 20 minutes got disconnected (I believe she hung up on me ) I called back spoke to the same 4 ladies from the first time I requested to speak to the meat department spoke with two men and was told they had the product I was looking for for I asked if it can be held and was told yes I inform the man I was on my way to get it he said no problem. I get to the store head to the meat department and there's two men there ( assuming the same two I spoke with on the phone) wasn't greeted when I walked to the counter so I politely asked did anyone of them just take a phone call and the both looked at me like they didn't speak English so I said it in Spanish. They then started to talk IN ENGLISH . I said I drove all the way here because you told me you would hold the product the man ( very distinct voice) that I spoke with said he didn't say that . When everyone I was in the car with heard him say it. Annoyed I left and called asked to speak with a manager and the female who answered the phone said no and hung up on me l. I started getting meat at this groceries 2 months ago, 3 times I returned meat because was totally nasty and in bad condition, prices are cheaper there than any other store but you can get sick , I complain at the store and the assistant manager just say I am sorry need the receive to exchange , I will never ever come back there to get meat again . Every time I visit this former Albertson's supermarket, I swear to myself that I'll never go there again. Since I live nearby, I receive those enticing ads on my front lawn weekly. They advertise super specials like chicken breasts for .99 a pound, or 29 cent tomatoes. Every couple of months I'll forget my last visit, and try it again. Here's the drill: The parking lot is almost always full so you'll have to circle to find a spot. Once you do, you'll have to get out of your car before you can park, so that you can move the shopping cart left there by your neighbor. Grab the cart, and head for the door. To get inside, you'll have to dodge the people who are hanging out in the doorway talking to each other, or making phone calls. Once inside, you'll want to visit the produce department, where the tomatoes or the spinach you saw in the ad should be. After dodging a few families who are having a reunion in the aisle, you are as likely as not to find the sale item out of stock. Ah well. The produce at one of the little produce markets nearby is better anyway. Continue to the canned goods section, dodging a couple more family reunions. With luck, you'll find what you want. If not, good luck finding an associate to help you. If you are REALLY lucky, you'll find one who speaks English. If your Spanish is fluent, you'll be OK. On to the meat department, where the chicken that you saw in the ad is probably out of stock, as it was today. On the plus side, you can find the Hispanic and Caribbean Items you rarely find at other supermarkets, and since here they aren't treated as specialty or exotic foods, the prices are very good. And because they turn over quickly, they are usually fresh. When I was traveling the state every week, I would make it a point to stop in Sedanos Supermarket in Homestead. That store was clean, well stocked, and the associates were friendly and helpful in spite of my admittedly weak command of the Spanish language.. This Orlando store is kind of dingy, like an old Winn Dixie, and the associates are too busy to be of much help if you have a question. Or maybe they just didn't understand the question. I stumbled upon here because this was the only store open Christmas day. I was headed to a dinner and more mac & cheese ingredients were needed. I picked up a block of cheese and several other things and headed on my way. When pulling out the groceries I notice a small speck of green on the cheese. When taking it out of the packaging, mold was all over it! Horrifying and embarrasing. A friend tried to ease the pain by letting me know shes gotten pies and other items there that had mold. What??!! Id complain but I doubt mgt would care, seeing the items they keep on the shelf. Never again read more

I have tried over and over to shop here but I have had to return chicken and ground beef more then twice. Both were so bad the help there could not stand to hold it. I give up, I wish Albertsons were still here. I must say the store seems to be a lot cleaner then it use to be and the heavy smell that use to come from the deli/lunch counter seems to be gone. I went to Sedano's with low expectations, and they were met. There were a few deals, and the store's selection is actually pretty big. The prices, however, are much higher on items that I'd pay far less for at Publix or Walmart. If you shop at Sedano's, it's a good idea to pay close attention to prices and do very careful comparison shopping. I went there because the store had a fantastic deal on chicken breasts; they were also carrying mutton, which is something I've never found in any store in Orlando EVER. Be warned that if you go to the meat counter, you're guaranteed a llllooooooonnngggg wait; the few people behind the counter are in no hurry and don't seem to care how long you stand there. Sedano's could stand to hire more meat cutters (and give some customer-service training to the two who were there today). Will I go again? Sure, if the store is offering a great deal on something I like. Would I become a regular there? No. read more
